We were passing through and popped in for a late lunch. Ordered the special smash burger combo - toasted brioche bun, double patty, cheese, pickles and a special sauce. The burger was perfection! Looking for a quick bite between Montreal and CT. Checked out Yelp and found the Spud Shack! Thanks Yelpers. Not as close to the freeway as I thought it was, but it was worth the drive. We tried a Krout burger and a Sunrise burger along with their hand cut fries and a chocolate shake. Evidently they get their beef from the local butcher and you can tell the difference. The burgers are huge and very good. The fries and shakes were great too. They even provide UNO cards to play with while you wait, which is a nice touch that we made good use of. My wife and I are always looking for good hamburgers in Dutchess County. Over the last ten years, we have tried numerous restaurants. The Spud Shack definitely has the tastiest burgers in the area. The meat is high quality. The fries are tasty. The owners are very friendly. The service is great. Though there are only half a dozen booths, the atmosphere is inviting and the restaurant is decorated as a 50's burger joint. (There is some additional seating and video games in another area of the restaurant.). It's definitely worth a stop. Though it's a forty minute trip for us, my wife and I both think it's worth the drive. read more

We came in at 6:30 and the place closes at 7pm on a weekend nights! Looks like it's a mom and pop restaurant. The inside has retro decor that makes you happy and welcomed! We placed our orders of burgers and were presented everything just the way we asked. There was only one server and one cook who was hustling the whole time. Super nice ppl. I loved that this place had lots of different options for burgers, as well as other sandwiches. I had a burger with Mama sauce which was spicy, and I also ordered spicy fries. I really enjoyed the burger. The girl working behind the counter was very nice and explained the menu to us. I'd definitely go back the next time I'm in the area! read more

The old GMC truck out front caught our eye. We figured why not. They had a boot scrubber at the door which I used and thought "What a brilliant idea!" As I watched the dirt come off my soles and be left outside. Smart idea. I ordered a fish sandwich and my wife got a Cowgirl Burger. Both were very good. The fries were just right, not over cooked, not undercooked and likely fresh cut potatoes. Delicious. My only negative is the inappropriate signs throughout. I get the idea of he old tin sign to make the ambiance, that's fine. The signs about stupid people and "tell me again how lucky I am to work here..." and the "this isn't Burger King, you get what I give you or get nothing" or something to that effect are not necessary especially when the young lady helping us was super nice. read more

This place is cool. Gives a nostalgic feel of a more simpler time. They always have oldies music playing and have all American diner decor. The place is very well kept- bathrooms included. The owners are super cool and the cook is consistent- I always get the Cowboy Burger and it delivers every time. My wife likes it too, but there's other dishes that she enjoys as well. After a 14 hour drive back home from SC my husband and I could barely keep our eyes open let alone think about cooking dinner so we figured we'd take the opportunity to try this spot we've been dying to try. Attempted to call in our order and was told they didn't have any sandwiches left, ok understandable, must've been a busy afternoon. My husband chooses the porkys burger as a consolation to make things easier as I was getting the same. A burger that only comes in 8oz when the menu specifies 4oz or 8oz. Ok, fine. I placed the order for TWO burgers, even being asked to clarify how BOTH were to be cooked and select TWO different sodas. A minute later my husband goes in to pay and order shakes as an add on. He gets charged for a strawberry shake then waits 10 minutes to be told "sorry, we don't have strawberry shakes. Oh and by the way, we only made one burger." Unexpected considering we ordered two. He was informed he wasn't charged for the second burger so they didn't make it...but they can if he wants them to, after he pays. Yes, it's quite obvious you pay for the food you order but it should be even MORE obvious you cook the food your customer orders in the first place. What troubles me most is how disrespectful and unfriendly the staff are; specifically the counter person. Raved about this place to our Daughter. We went there today for lunch. Ordered 3 cheeseburgers cheat on the meat cold cheese not heated on a cold bun no fun fries were also cold. Ordered a Milkshake to take before we left went back in to get it she had no mask on and never maid it so we left and will never return. Surely not worth the $45. This was our first time here. It's a family-owned business. When there, order at the counter. The lady there is very pleasant and helpful. We drove to the town, and I am glad we stopped by! It is 15 minutes away from our home, but everything is a drive for us and this was definitely worth the drive. However, in this world of frozen, premade, pre-processed, burgers, this place stands out. The burgers were juicy and tasty and the brioche buns were nicely toasted. We had the Shack Burger a Shack Cheeseburger and shared a baked potato with bacon and cheddar, which were all large and delicious. Our daughter ordered a Taco Burger, which is wrapped in a flour tortilla with salsa, sour cream, cheddar cheese, lettuce, onions, and tomatoes. Definitely, a modern place with a 50's flair.
