Unpretentious, comfort food. This place has been owned and operated by one family since 1940's. Current name "Round III " signifies the third generation running this place. Good service, comfortable space. My friends and I had a salad nicely served and prepared. A burger that was about 4" tall and cooked exactly as requested. A chicken sandwich with peppers and onions and cheese, I had a ham and Gruyère cheese sandwich with a tall mound of hand cut potatoes and a chocolate egg cream! Stopped in today for lunch with my husband. I'm glad we chose this place! I had the mushroom Gouda (or Swiss, I can't remember) burger, and my husband had the fries and mozzarella sticks. Really good burger and fries and it came with a fresh tomato (can't stand when restaurants give you those grainy, out of season tomatoes), and my husband enjoyed his food as well. It's a local spot that is friendly to anyone that walks through the door. The food is simple homemade classics-breakfast, burgers and sandwiches, meatloaf and the like. My favorites are the blueberry pancakes and the philly cheesesteak. The pancakes are fluffy and loaded with real blueberries. The philly? No Kraft Singles or Steak-umm here. It's thin sliced steak, mushrooms, caramelize onion and white American cheeseh. The hand cut fries are like the ones you get at the county fair-golden and soft but still crispy. If you're traveling through the area definitely stop by for a bite. It's cheaper and less fuss than the places in town. And it's a good stop with the family before going to McEnroe down the block. read more

Sorry folks...it's a one star... One customer at dinner on a Monday. Out of many items/ specials"we haven't bought any" Very dirty, magazines, newspapers piled hi on the counter, empty coolers filled with chock-keys...as earlier mentioned we were wishing for antibiotics.. On my wife's steak...the waitress asked" how is it, chewy?" Instant mashed, Heinz gravy, canned corn & beans. The meatloaf was ok??... Kitchen looked equally dirty/disarray.. The cook did come out as we paid to ask if everything was ok... She seemed sincere and said the steak was 8oz when she started. If you so happen to venture out to the MIDDLE OF NOWHERE on route 22 towards Connecticut, and you pass by a cow farm on your right hand side, please look directly to your left and there is...ROUND TUIT. I was drawn to this restaurant by a hand written sign outside that advertised "Blueberry Pancakes Served All Day". I was craving just that. You walk in and there are 3 people aside from the man working behind the counter. Those three people are old, wrinkly, and probably have never stepped foot outside Millerton, NY let alone the US of A . The miscellaneous homosapien is the man's wife cooking in the back. I was afraid my friend and I would be unwelcome or stared at for being two asian outsiders, but the man was quite receptive. He had this amused smirk on his face the whole time like, "lookat these girls...comin on in here lookin for sumthin da eat..." My stack of blueberry pancakes was FILLED with fresh juicy blueberries and came with thick slices of ham on the side. My strawberry milkshake was made with fresh milk (remember that cow farm?) and was the best shake i've ever had. The chili burger was freakin dripping and delicious. The home style potatoes were hunky and seasoned. A vanilla shake for my friend as well...all of this for $19. Oh, dear heavens, take me now! So what made this authentically-small-town-american-meal so damn good? Answer: Whilst pigging out, three gentlemen wearing Wrangler jeans, denim jackets, plaid shirts, and JOHN DEERE hats came stomping in from work and sat down at the counter for coffee (which they didn't pay for...). It is so hard to find real home cooked diner food in the age of frozen portion food service supplied meals. The Round Tuit doesn't look like much from the outside, but so often is the case with real gems like this. One look at the old soda fountain fixtures and ancient Hamilton Beach milkshake machine and you know this place had been around a while. You don't stay in a rural area like this for a long time without doing something right. The chocolate malt was the real thing. Plenty thick, malty and huge. Pancakes were light and fluffly accompanied by crispy bacon. The fries are handcut, another rarity in the mostly food service supplied diners one usually finds. How about 3 eggs, ham bacon or sausage with toast for about 5 bucks? If you still have room, finish off the meal with a home made pie ala mode. Even though the restaurant is a local favorite, the service was fast and polite and never made us feel like an unwelcome outsider. read more

If i could, I'd give this place 0 stars. We drove by this place on the way home over the weekend on a Sunday evening and it looked charming from the outside - next to a field with cows with nothing for miles around, a chintzy half-lit sign stating friend chicken and pancakes on the menu, and a gravel parking lot. It had the typical mom & pop look to it, and my boyfriend and I were craving some homestyle cooking so we took a chance. As we walked out of the car to go inside the restaurant, the cow mooed at us pretty loudly, and we should have taken heed. The waitress looked depressed and like she did not want to be there, and was not very welcoming. We picked a seat in the back by the window, but it was SO cold that we got up and moved to the main dining area. The restaurant was clean and the waitress spent a lot of time organizing the newspapers and wiping the counters down, but otherwise was mute. The menu was huge so we went for something that seemed relatively safe: wings for an appetizer, meatloaf & mashed potatoes with brocolli on the side, and a turkey sandwich with stuffing & gravy. Standard homestyle fare. It was a huge mistake. The wings were so soggy that the skin just slid off; it was still gooey b/c it was not fried - in fact, I think they were boiled and had some hot sauce thrown on top of them. I can vouch that they were boiled because the hot sauce was watered down and steaming. The turkey sandwich was less than edible - the stuffing was tasteless and mushy, the turkey was dry (looked like coldcuts mostly made of flour), and the gravy was probabaly Heinz out of a jar. The meatloaf was abominable - I don't know what the other guy was smoking when he thinks it was his favorite, but it certainly wasn't mine! It was dry but somehow sitting in a pool of grease, and it was stiff. It was actually one of the only things that was actually homemade, but it had zero flavor save for the Heinz gravy that it was drowning in. The mashed potatoes (I use that term loosely) were a slop of milk, butter, and some type of powder - they were so liquid-y I couldn't eat it with a fork. The saving grace might be their desserts, but we were too sad to try the pies or cakes. Their ice cream was icy and looked like it had melted and refroze, and the rest of the desserts looked old. Overall, the service was not great, the food was awful, and the whole experience was far from a warm Sunday dinner with friends. Let it be known that stopping here would be a mistake. read more

It was weird, it was dirty - the food was at best ok and yes, cheap, but not worth the drive, the energy it took to chew the food and the concern that we would all be on antibiotics as a result of eating here. It's not a modern hipster diner created for pretentious weekenders, it's an eccentric traditional little old-school diner out in the scenic middle of no-where.... full of character, cute, and decently clean. When I was there the owner was pretty much moping around... from what I'm told that's pretty typical. He wasn't a real outgoing guy and I just put it in the category of "soup nazi" or "angry Korean lady" from other legendary establishments with curmudgeonly owners, and enjoyed the experience. He's probably just spent too much time at the diner over the last 30 years and he's OK with that. But he's not going to try to entertain you to get a larger tip. He's just going to serve you at his own pace. The menu is overly confusing, for example, there are burgers listed in 3 different sections. Basically, traditional diner favorites.... although they did have a 20 oz steak dinner for $26. Most dishes were $5- $12. I had an open faced roast beef sandwich with fries and gravy for about $11, It was a big serving on two untoasted slices of soft white bread with brown diner gravy. A gastropub take on the open faced roast beef sandwich it was not. It was diner traditional all the way. I ate the whole thing happily. Parents had burgers with sweet potato fries... the fries looked burned but actually tasted pretty good. Coleslaw was a tangy delicious buttermilk slaw. It had some little bubbles in the dressing, which made me nervous at first..... but it tasted great and I ate the whole dish and didn't get sick later. I know buttermilk can bubble like that. Probably super healthy probiotics. Actually I think it did help my digestive system. They serve breakfast all day. Also ice cream sundaes, pie, etc. Didn't try any of that 'cause they were closing and we didn't need to work his LAST nerve. I'd go back for sure. Yelp has 10 reviews for the Round Tuit that are not recommended. But after looking at them I think they're mostly true and some are pretty cute. I enjoyed reading them. read more

Dirty, dingy and gross. Lost my appetite the second my boyfriend and I pulled into the parking lot but he talked me into going inside. Waiter/owner was friendly enough but he was unkempt. Long hair, looked unwashed as did he. When he brought the food out, his finger were in our fries. Newspapers piled high inn the counter. Several tables were dirty from previous diners but looked as if the dirty dishes were there for a while. Floors haven't been mopped in ages. I was too afraid to use the restroom. Not sure what all the 5 star reviews are from but I'm honestly surprised we don't have food poisoning right now. read more

Don't let this place's appearance fool you. Yeah, so it looks more like some seedy pub right next to a cattle/cow farm....but some of the better greasy-spoon joint food I have had can be found here. My personal faves here are the meatloaf with mashed potatoes, battered mushrooms and of course any of the omlettes as that they come with a HUGE portion of home fries. My wife and I stopped there for an unexpected lunch while we were checking out a spot to go fishing in the area. We often enjoy going to a local place when we are out wondering about. It was like stepping back in time for a bit and that was really nice. It was just plain good home cooking with a lot of choices to eat that is out in the middle of some of the nicest farms to drive through. If your looking for kale infused yogurt and lattes go someplace else. I grew up eating here, and have lots of fond memories of this amazing truck stop. I would drive by it at least twice a day, and you always knew you were about to pass the Round Tuit when you could smell the cow manure. It's the only eatery in the Millerton/Amenia/Wassaic area (that I know of) that is open 24 hours, and there were always at least two tractor trailers and a few cars parked outside. It's real country, real tasty and REALLY down-to-earth. Don't expect to find anything fancy here (food-wise or other-wise), and that's exactly how it should be. read more

My Grandfather sold the land to the original owner the late Jake Shofiet who built The Gateway. (Thank God for no zoning at the time!) After Jake sold it to the Sands family who ran it as a truck stop and bar. Dale's late mother bought it and it's been in the family ever since now owned by Dale. The food is great and the conversation is even better. My father and a few of the other farmers from the area were and are fixtures there solving the worlds problems. I wish it was still open 24/7! I remember as a kid going down and getting chicken fingers and Nachos Round Tuit at all hours of the night. Awesomeness. If you have a chance to stop in it isn't an experience you won't soon forget. Exactly what I was looking for. A place that had greasy diner food for a reasonable price. I had the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes. They both came with salty gravies that just hit the spot. It was a bit slow when I went on a Sunday afternoon but the waitress and cook made sure we were helped and were super nice. The creamsicle milk shake was heavenly and sweet. They have cool pictures and are clearly big fans of cows. I dug this place, where in heavens can you find a milkshake fountain with the machinery to back shit up?! I got a vanilla milkshake and had two parasites with me that bled that drink faster than all get out! Being the jerk that I am I asked the cool blond dude if I could have my raspberry pancakes a little well done on the outside, he chuckled politely and gladly obliged with circular sausage patties that were right on! My lunch mates had two soups that were easily the best homemade soups they have gotten in awhile. One friend got the grilled cheese with real dairy cheese and local fresh made bread.
