There a lot that's good and some that's not. Upon looking at other reviews I can abide with a four. I got the Reuben. The meat was a little light. Tasted ok but not the star of the show. Way too much sauerkraut. So the sandwich just tasted like sauerkraut. We got the fried app plate. It was ok. Pickles were kind of weird but it was enjoyable Everyone else's food was kind of forgettable. Not awful but didn't make an impact. Prices were very reasonable. It was a nice break from the 2025 thing. Service was great. This is what made it a four not a three. Very helpful and friendly. Fun little diner but not worthy of a side trip. read more

They best cherry pie I've ever had!! Service was very good and helpful, friendly with excellent suggestions. They coffee is excellent, and I was not surprised to discover it is their own blend (available for sale, ground or whole bean). Good was very good, excellent fries. My dining companion felt they hard roll on their burger fell apart too easily. My Ruben was solidly good. Fries are really good. As for the setting, this is The Real DEAL! It had been awhile since I set my foot in this diner, but I was invited by a friend of mine on whose car I had done some work. He was craving the meatloaf dinner, but I opted for the roast turkey platter, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce and mixed vegetables, as well as a roll and butter. A mixed house salad and dressing, too. Of course, the salad came first. Lots of mouth feel, a balsamic vinaigrette, radishes, onions, tomato, etc. Then, wow! A huge steaming platter was set before me with a pile of turkey white meat atop a large scoop of stuffing. Real mashed potatoes (no fake stuff here) and tasty gravy. A separate bowl of hot mixed veggies and a roll and butter on a tray arrived at the same time. The tab for the meal was $17.95 Good, hot food, at a reasonable price. I'll be back, despite having to pay a toll to cross the Kingston bridge to get there... It reminds me of how diners used to be, before they got upscale after the covid crisis. I'm thinking of one "diner" in particular... it may have the word "diner" in the name of the place, but it is not even close to being a diner. read more

Have been coming here for a long time. Always enjoyed our breakfast. Good food great big portions. Last visit I noticed the coffee, which has always been exceptional, was watered down. The prices also were noticeably higher. Inflation I'm guessing has put a damper on my breakfast! read more

Stopped here on the way from Hudson back to the city and loved the place! Prices were ridiculously reasonable and the service was quick and friendly. Came for breakfast and enjoyed our time, had a delicious slice of pecan pie to top it off. Will always love a diner. read more

Adorable, kitschy, nostagic 1920s dining car diner! Ambiance is 100 years old, but very clean. Locals flock here for the excellent food and friendly small town service. This morning, I had a wonderful chili omelet with hash browns and toast. Of course, it was delicious, however, I felt that I needed to either be drunk or hungover to enjoy it properly! I've been here a bunch of times from growing up in this town and this diner is a staple of this "historic" town. Sadly, the quality of this place has also gone down with it. The restaurant was half full at most. Service was still somehow super slow and I had a hard time getting someone to take my order. Once I finally placed my order, everything else was fine. I ordered the Corned Beef Hash, Two Eggs, and Toast with bottomless coffee. The food is pretty good and filling. I only got one refill with my "bottomless" coffee as the service was lacking. I really liked this place! It's adorable, and I loved the huge cake and pie selection. The breakfast food was more on the "fine" end on the scale than anything spectacular-- I liked my breakfast sandwich, but my husband was a little let down by his mostly sausage-free sausage gravy. The slice of cake was tasty and so huge that it was our desert for multiple days. I really enjoyed the ambiance and service, though, and there was enough on the menu that looked interesting (fresh donuts!) that I'd 100% love to go back the next time I'm in the area. read more

Had a delicious breakfast here yesterday with my wife. Both of our eggs were cooked perfectly. Corned beef hash was also crispy and delicious. Coffee was yummy too. We will certainly be back. And the prices were the most shocking, a place that isn't gouging people just because everyone else is! It's a little pricier than some other diners depending on what you get, and the menu isn't particularly flexible. Still though, I love this place because I love sitting in the booth, drinking bottomless coffee from the diner mug and taking a breath for a second. Today three of us (plus one service dog) had lunch here. We were originally going to the other diner but the reviews were terrible. We couldn't be more pleased with our meal and the women who worked there (or owned it??) couldn't be nicer. The two people I was with got burgers and said it was the best hamburger they ever had. I had chicken pharm and it was fresh, and the roll was soft (even though they called it a hard roll). We had their St. Patrick's Day meal which came with the salad and an incredibly delicious nice size portion of corn, beef, cabbage, carrots, and red potatoes, oh, and the best soda bread you've ever had!! You must find yourself time to go there over this weekend as they have corn beef and cabbage meals available till Sunday. There is so much about this place that is just perfect. The waitresses seem to know exactly when to come and pour more coffee. My biscuits were heated on the grill to perfection. The breakfast was reasonably priced. Even their decaf coffee was good. The counter was the perfect place to sit and take in the historic design and gleaming stainless steel surfaces. Best in class if you like the Diner-as-Experience, a real piece of living Americana. I won't quibble about things like slow drink refills when I can spend the time savoring the classic interior. The food was excellent, menu a classic stripped-down American standard, but with the requisite number of comfort-food specials. And, seriously, eight different kinds of fruit pie to choose from for dessert (we opted for strawberry-rhubarb). Usually if you dine in a registered historic landmark, it's the kind of hoity toity tie-and-three forks place where you have to "put on" as much as the restaurant does. When it comes to diners, for me, it's pretty much a given that I'll like the place. Diners have particular place in my heart, with childhood nostalgia for things like pancakes, cakes on display in glass, and waitresses that know your name. We pulled up to the parking lot as the sun was almost finished setting, post-sunset, when the sky is a dark blue. Set against that backdrop, the red neon DINER above the entrance told me I was in for a treat. I only visited Historic Village Diner once during a weekend getaway to upstate New York, so the waitress of course didn't know my name, but she knew just about everyone else's. I ordered a pretty good waffle (available all day, whereas some of the breakfast menu is not, such as the pancakes). It was crisp outside, served with whipped butter, and little packets of Heinz maple syrup. Objectively, the food is not really that great. But sometimes going out to eat isn't about eating the best food. It can be, and often is, about other things. read more

Honestly? I had a love/hate relationship with this place and then we broke up over roast beef. Yeah, I said it. Here's the thing. Everything at this diner is just okay, not great. Not if you can really cook, but in a pinch, I'd grab some of their honey fried chicken (which I really loved) and some mashed potatoes, but the desserts taste like they came out of a box were covered with canned frosting, so I never left with sweets (something I love to peruse and buy at restaurants). I tried a few menu items and besides the aforementioned chicken, it was just meh until their roast beef dinner, which was supposed to come with gravy. It was actually deli roast beef sliced thin from an actual deli. It was NOT an actual roast beef someone roasted and sliced. It also came with a thin au jus type sauce, which saturated the container and the mashed potatoes making them a soupy mess. I know they've had gravy in the past, so cannot understand this mistake at all. They forgot the salad, but were sure to put bland steamed vegetables in the bag I didn't want. Upon pick-up, the kitchen was obviously a bit crazy and the staff answering phones was new, but this isn't a first time situation and if you're going to put roast beef dinner on a menu, don't get it from the Hannaford deli. I can do that easily myself and for half the price so I won't be returning, but I'll have some fond memories of your chicken to take with me. read more

One of the Best Diners I have Hit! Firstly the place has the wonderful old diner feel, not a fake one but the authentic thing. To start we ordered the corn poppers and onion petals. The corn poppers were delicious, basically cheese balls with corn kernels in them. They were fried, but not dripping in oil with good flavor in the cheese, and a nice crunch from the kernels. The onion petals were good, but not the star of the show. For dinner I ordered the Black Bean Burger Deluxe. One of the best black bean burgers I have ever had in my life. Solid flavor through with a nice earthiness that made me feel like I was really eating a burger. It also had a good consistence not to far from a beef burger. My wife ordered the Jitterbug, which was a burger on white bread swimming in gravy. While I didnt taste it her face said it all, a winner! For dessert we tried the carrot cake. The piece was HUGE. The cake was most and flavorful, tasting natural. Walnuts had been soaked in and gave a nice texture to the cake. The frosting while a bit on the sweet side was not overpowering.
