We wanted to bring a large group (10 people) in on a Saturday morning and were worried about overwhelming a small place. We called ahead and let them know and even though they didn't take reservations, they had a spot saved for us as soon as we walked in. Food was great, large portions and decent prices. I didn't get her name but our waitress was hilarious. After we left we were trying to take a group photo and she came out and offered to take our pic and stood in the middle of the road to get us all. read more

I was very excited to eat here again since i had such fond memories of eating here two years ago. The fish sandwich which was so good two years ago had less fish and more breading. The pickles were so limp i couldn't eat them. I think they may be short staffed since there were ads for weekend and night cooks on all the napkin holders. They now add an automatic gratuity to all checks as well. I think the worst thing is that the woman who i think is the main person/owner with glasses is quite grumpy and borderline mean. My mom is a little old and doesn't speak English well and she was almost shouting at her about what table to sit at. The older woman who i think might be her mom was really, really nice. I get that they are understaffed but if you run a restaurant your mood affects your customers. read more

Sad to see a staple of the town go so far downhill. Bad costumer service which desperately needs better training, pancakes cooked so raw it looked like they hadn't been filliped, dirty silverware. So much potential but needs much more diligent management. I can handle a small mistake in the kitchen but to be ridiculed and accused of being cheap by staff is unacceptable in the service industry. To the owner Brian, I want nothing more for your establishment to thrive and be continue to be a landmark in our town. But in the current state It cannot do so. More training across the board is desperately needed. read more

Ambiance (4/5): The diner is located just a few minutes from the Taconic State Park. Our party of 4 visited on a Sunday around 11am and was seated immediately. The inside has your classic retro diner look and feel. There's a bar top seating, booths, and throwback decorations on the walls. The establishment is tight but relatively clean, bright, and not too loud. Service (4/5): There was only 3 staff members bustling around to serve the guests and as such, we didn't expect top service. The ladies were doing a stellar job bustling around and attending to all their guests. They were friendly, polite, and gotten all our orders correct! Food Sadly, all of my party was not impressed by the taste of the dishes but the dollar value to the portion was great. Iced Coffee (1/5): very weak and watered down Hunter's Omelet (2/5): There was nothing special about this but perhaps the kielbasa which is a Polish sausage, often smoked and has a distinctive garlic taste. I'd say it was mildly flavored and complemented the sautéed onions. I asked for the home fries to be cooked well-done and they were! However, the potato bites were not seasoned at all. read more

Although definitely a "diner" in decor and menu, the food is above average for a diner and they always have interesting and tasty specials. The fish sandwich is delicious as are the mashed potatoes that come with it. The wait staff is super friendly and attentive, and the place is clean, open and airy. It's a nice mix of locals and weekenders and is always busy and lively on weekends. It stays true to itself and is definitely well worth the stop! read more

The setting is 50's style with newly renovated seating. This is a small town gem!!! The place was super busy but the wait staff while under pressure continuously checked to make sure we were happy with our meal or if there were any dishes they could remove to keep everyone comfortable. Everything we ordered came out at the same time and was hot and ready to eat!! They had specials you wouldn't expect to find in a diner. Coleen & Brian have "specials" competitions giving the customers a little travel experience through their taste buds. kids were going to camp. It was the perfect place. They were lots of families there. Everybody was happy. The grown-ups were happy with their breakfast. Kids were happy with their food blueberry pancakes, hashbrowns, coffee, potatoes, sausages anyway you wanted them vegetable. Dad's a great spot! After a few days camping nearby, I visited with a somewhat large and unwieldy (kids under the age of 12, a person with a severe dairy allergy, and a couple of folks with language barriers) group, and Dad's provided a delicious meal. This restaurant is exceptionally clean. The staff members are kind and patient and extremely accommodating. The food was all very well prepared, fresh, and high quality--much better than your typical diner. I highly recommend this establishment and will visit it when I'm in the area again. read more

We stopped in on a fall day and had excellent breakfast food. They burned the bacon like I asked; they make a good breakfast sandwich; the coffee was good and some people were regular enough so that it looks like they have their own mugs they use. Honestly, the best poached eggs I've ever had. The hash was cooked just right and the hash browns...yum! Growing up in my dad's diner/restaurant, diners have a very special place in my heart and memory, especially the ones that are well run, with good service and where the food is several notches above the average. Dad's,in my opinion, is one of those small hidden country gems that you stumble on when you least expect to and your experience abounds into memories of bygone days. I started with a mushroom soup which was absolutely one of the very best I've encountered on the culinary trail, it had subtle nuances that belied its no frills rustic 60's little country diner origin. Firstly, the soup had a hearty very distinct mushroom flavor from the large beefy portabello mushrooms and I'm sure it had been enhanced by a little beef stock to round out the flavor. Secondly, there was a crunchy textural component with the addition of celery which I had not had before but found it to be the perfect balance to the soft tender mushrooms. Thirdly, a roux base thickener can be overdone or not done well, either way it is a turnoff, this was the fabric that tied this masterpiece all together producing a complex well balanced memorable savory soup. The waitress recommended the chicken breast bacon cheese sandwich on grilled marble rye with fries and I, also, wanted to try the Greek salad. The chicken was tender moist and juicy, the smoked bacon came through nicely and the cheese added a distinct mellow yet nutty flavor; the fries were done crispy just the way I like. The Greek Salad was almost the equal of salads I've had in many Greek restaurants I've eaten in and the Greek dressing provided was exceptionally good. The service from beginning to end was top notch could not have been better. I'd say if you like mushroom soup, nicely prepared food and country charm, then Dad's should be one of you hidden rural destinations. read more
