    Outdoor picnic area

"And it's just a box of rain I don't know who put it there Believe it if you need it Or leave it if you dare" (Grateful Dead) Yes, you sure do need it. If you are ever near Great Barrington, you NEED to stop here and have one of the best comfort food meals you've had in a long, long, time. Our timing to be up that way was perfect, because they just opened for the season yesterday. We parked on a side road/driveway on the left side of the Bistro Box, and the first thing that hit us was the fantastic aroma of grilling burgers. That's because their cooking is done to order on an outdoor grille, so your food is about as fresh as fresh can be. Bistro is a casual roadside eatery selling chicken, burgers, dogs, salads, fries, ice cream and a ton of sandwiches. They have a spacious outdoor seating area with benches, picnic tables and games. We ordered a chicken quesadilla ($10) with salsa and sour cream, a Roadside Burger ($13.50) with ground sirloin, lettuce, tomato, and onion on a toasted brioche bun served with pickles. I added an order of candied jalapenos for a buck, and we split a bottle of Hal's Black Cherry Seltzer ($3). They gave us a buzzer, we grabbed a picnic table, watched the line of people waiting to order grow and grow and grow, and chilled to their sound system's eclectic choice of blues, Eagles, Charlie Daniels, Billy Joel, Raspberries, and more excellent tunes. My burger was phenomenal, clearly one of the very best I've had in ages. The soft roll, the big grilled hamburger patty, the crunch of the onion slices and celery, and the bite of the jalapenos complemented each other to perfection. Now that we know how great the Bistro Box is, I suspect we'll visit whenever we go up to Lee or Great Barrington. It was that good. PRO TIP Facing the stand, DO NOT pull into the driveway on the right (southbound) side of the stand. DO pull into the driveway on the left (northbound) side of the stand.

The burger smothered in carmelized onions, bacon and cheddar cheese was amazing. The fries were cooked to perfection. It was a beautiful summer day. My only question is was it worth the two hours in line? And that was at 2:30 in the afternoon!

Don't let the long line stop you from visiting this absolute gem of the Berkshires. While it's not fun standing in the sun, there's definitely a reason people are willing to wait. The food here is fresh, very well executed, and there is a great variety to the menu. This place has everything you could want on a summer day, burgers, fries, salads, fresh lemonade, and ice cream. After ordering you are given a pager son you can pick a spot to sit out back, they have a huge lawn, tables, and even some games. Food is prepared pretty quickly and portions are huge. An order of fries can definitely be shared. They will give to go boxes though, so leftovers are no problem. A great stop, I can't go to the Berkshires without eating here once at least.

I love this place! The food is always great. Delicious and well-made eats. The service can be better, but I think they slow down the line in order to pace with the output of food. The staff at the bistro box is always super friendly and helpful. The bistro box roadside shack is super cute. I don't know how they make such great food in there, but they do! I can personally vouch for the burger with tomato bacon jam, the chicken sandwich with aïoli, the hotdogs, and the fries. I have taken guests there, and they are always amazed at the good food. Of course I'll be back.

We ordered the steak and cheese, box burger, truffle fries, garlic&herbs fries, and loaded bacon potato soup. Cute area to eat out and chill. They have tons seating area and also outdoor games like bean bag toss. My garlic& herbs fries tasted burnt to me it was way too over done for me. My bf liked the tomato bacon jam from the box burger. We were the first customer so there was no1 when we got there but people started coming in right after.

If you are looking for some great ambiance and the BEST burger around look no further!! There will be a wait, but it WILL be worth it!! I highly recommend their signature "Box Burger" it comes with their homemade tomato jam which is chef's kiss! And you can't leave without having the Truffle Fries! This place is a MUST SEE on your way into Great Barrington!

We LOVE it here! It's 100% worth the wait in line. The best time to go is the middle of the week on a sunny day. You can set out a blanket and relax while you wait for your food and have a little impromptu picnic. You can also sit at the picnic tables and take some time to play frisbee or cornhole. The staff working definitely enjoy what they do and that really shows in the food that they produce. Our go-to is the Box Burger, chili cheese fries, and occasionally their Turkey wrap. The portions are great and the food is always fresh and it's worth every penny. If you get the chance, go!

Falafel sandwich, Steak & Cheese and onion rings.

This roadside stand in a meadow off the highway around Great Barrington is a must stop for us. Not because it's the cheapest spot around (it's not!) ... or that it has the best food. We like it because the food is consistently good ... and the flavours are on point. It's kind of like In N Out Burger on the west coast. The consistency and overall goodness make you rave about it. Each time I go here, I try to convince myself to try something new. They have specials, which they post to their social media accounts ... and they have a regular menu. Everything is fresh, local (where possible) and made from scratch ... sauces, meats, breads, etc. I ordered the steak and cheese sandwich with a side of onion rings. Over $20 for that ... a sandwich and a side. It came out looking tiny ... no way was this going to make me feel full, I thought. But, it was one of the best steak and cheese sandwiches I have had. (And we're talking after many trips to Philly.) The cheese sauce was homemade and gooey and mixed in with the shaved steak, peppers and caramelized onions, which were the star of the show. The onions were so sweet and done perfectly that, as 'The Dude' would say, 'They ... like ... really tied the sandwich together, man.' The onion rings were lightly battered ... crisp outside and soft inside and perfectly seasoned. Salty, crunchy and full of flavor. They did not make me feel bloated or gross after eating them and the chipotle mayo dipping sauce they came with was perfection. Don't sleep on the onion rings. The gf got the Falafel sandwich. It was good ... but she had serious order envy after trying a bite of my steak and cheese. Being a gentleman, I offered to split it with her but I was relieved when she said no. The Falafel was really good and crisp and flavourful ... but the star of the show was the steak and cheese and the smash-style burgers. The homemade pickles were the best part of the Falafel sandwich. They have Adirondack chairs, corn hole games and frisbees for use before or after lunch. Note that everything is made to order, so it takes time to be served. On a summer or early fall day ... prepare for a line/long wait. We went on Halloween and there were only 6 other people in line, which meant a 10 minute wait. We had no room for dessert but, although what we ordered wasn't exactly health food, it didn't leave us feeling sluggish and bloated. 70% of the time when I order a burger, I leave regretting it as is feels like a rock in my stomach. Overall, while a bit pricey ... this is a must stop when it is open in season. The food is very good ... the hipster vibe is strong but so are the flavours and the reviews. Go the extra few miles to eat lunch here ... it's consistent and well worth the trip.

Steak n cheese, all beef hotdog, chocolate shake, onion rings, and the box burger. Perfectly cooked, grilled, and seasoned and presented.

Great food but do be prepared for a long wait to order coupled with a very inefficient system.

"You never see it coming, You never have a clue,…read moreBut there's trouble on the horizon, Bubbling like a roux" (Jimmy Buffet) Walking around and browsing the shops in Great Barrington on a beautiful Spring Day was a real enjoyable experience. We wanted to try a new place for lunch and ended up at Marjoram And Roux for a very nice lunch, It has a front showcasw with baked goods and prepared salads and a big roll of butcher paper on the wall where the day's specials are listed. We ordered at the front counter, grabbed a table in the modestly sized dining room and our two sandwiched came out very fast. My wife ordered a Prosciutto Baguette with arugula, red pepper tapenade, and Buffalo Mozzarella with an aged balsamic dressing for $16. I ordered a Pita Sadwich with White Bean Hummus, Beets, Olives, Pickled Onions, and Arugula for $12. Both sandwiches were served with a small salad of local greens. I loved my sandwich. The pillowy softness of the pita, the smooth velvety texture of the hummus, the sweetness of the beets, and the saltiness of the olives all combined for one fantastic sandwich. Portion size was generous, and since we knew we'd be stopping down the street for ice cream, we each took home half of our lunch. Pricing was reasonable at just around $30 after tax and before tip. There's a lot of lunch choices in Great Barrington and we were very happy with ours.

Very good coffee and hot drinks, teas, iced drinks. We split a spinach croissant into 4 and inhaled it in 2 seconds, it was good. The small menu of specials, written on white butcher, paperhanging on the subway tiled wall, looked fabulous. But the prize goes to the big, round Ginger Molasses cookie, studded with ginger and perfectly sweetened. A few cozy tables, nice natural lighting, relaxing background music and a friendly staff make for the perfect stop along your way.
