    Amazing ambiance with warm lighting and a bubbling river as the backdrop. Exceptionally friendly staff who greet you the second you step foot in the door and check in on you periodically. The duck leg was flavorful and well balanced with the crispy skin and tender inside. The pork chop was very tender, but perhaps lacking some flavor. Overall a wonderful dinner experience and the attentive staff made it memorable.

    There was only a single area of opportunity for this restaurant, and I mention it below. We've driven by this restaurant for years and years, and have always wanted to eat here. WOW, I'm glad we did. First of all, you are greeted by a wonderful man, who is teeming with charm and warmth--literally the best host you can imagine. I'm not sure if I heard a British accent, but wow, what an entrance and what a pleasant and charming man. We were seated right away at about 5:15, and within minutes the place filled up--every seat gone. We had driven from Litchfield, and it was raining and super foggy out there, and the drive felt like it lasted forever, but we felt so welcomed when we arrived. The fireplace was roaring and it warmed our bones, while the coziness immediately overtook us. The woman who seemed in charge of the restaurant, possibly the owner, was equally accommodating and made sure everyone was 100% comfortable, and that their tables were perfectly set. I watched her working and just knew this restaurant had it together like clockwork. They work so hard to make sure you feel like you're getting the best experience possible, and I appreciate that so much. Our server was equally wonderful and accommodating, and timed everything perfectly for us so we could enjoy my husband's birthday dinner. Everyone eating there seemed like locals, or from the Massachusetts area and were also excited to be sitting and eating there. I stared with a drink called "Jacques the Elder," made with Makers Mark, Lemon, Ginger beer, elderflower, and topped with a row of candied ginger for $14. Just mouth-watering. The server brought us some delicious Berkshire Bread Col sourdough and and breadsticks, accompanied by a feta and tomato purée, which was outstanding. For appetizers we had a prosciutto, burrata, and pear to start. When paired with the the sourdough bread, it was just delicious. All just well-prepared and fresh. For my husband's entree, he had a delicious pan-seared trout on a bed of mini pearlescent gnocchi that was sumptuous. This was not a regular menu item. I had a shrimp and spaghetti dish that was equally delicious with just the right amount of heat, but, there just wasn't enough Spaghetti in the dish to account for the $34 price tag. You can see the dish was very shallow, in the photos below. I asked for more bread and then dipping that in the delicious buttery Sauce. This didn't detract at all, but just another two forkfuls of pasta would have given me that important impression of value and abundance. Then the young man bused the table and used a scraper to make sure every crumb was gone, in preparation for dessert--pure service. We finished the dinner with cappuccinos, and a flourless chocolate cake and pistachio ice cream. The flourless cake just stuck to the roofs of our mouths, and the ice cream helped provide that creamy cold nutty contrast. What brilliant pairing. The entire evening was perfection. The kind of experience you start to miss before it's actually over. We drove home with jaws dropped, and commented on what a magical, cozy, and welcoming experience that was. Particularly, how it will be difficult to recreate again--but darn it, we will try. I highly recommend Old Mill, as a true staple of Southern Mass, as an enchanting dining experience, and truly delicious culinary triumph.

    The bed and breakfast we were staying at highly recommended this place for dinner - they don't take reservations and are only open Tuesday - Saturday. They open at 5:00 pm and you really want to get there as close to the hour as possible to get a table. We arrived at 5:15 and sat in the bar area, our server Hannah was amazing to say the least! She was super attentive - our water was never empty and we got new silverware a few times!!! And to top of off, we were able to meet and chat with the owner, Teri, and he is quite the charmer! He gave us recommendations, chatted with us about some of the signs around the bar area, he was super welcoming and kind! He even took pictures with us!!!     Must come back here! A cozy classy comfortable gem of place in the Berkshires. No reservations allowed. Owners were so kind and even gave us complimentary dessert since we were there for my birthday and our anniversary. We started with warm bread, sticks, red pepper cheese spread and olives. Salads came free with entree. Get the blue cheese crumbles! Then I had duck confit-cooked perfectly but maybe a slight too much of the cherry dressing. My favorite in MA ever. My husband had a 14oz strip steak with really delicious truffle butter. Each under $40! Ended with a unique and delectable chocolate grand marnier mousse cake-Must get. Service was attentive and polite. Will definitely come back.

    Went for dinner at Old Mill off of Route 23 near Egremont, MA. The ambiance was warm and welcoming. Decoration and settings were nicely appointed and decorated. We ordered a cocktail of Blackberry syrup and Prosecco. I had the days special soup of puréed wild mushroom and the entree of Prime Rib ( came with Yorkshire Pudding and green beans and horseradish). It was all delicious. The Yorkshire pudding was eggy and tender and mopped up all the meat juices. Dessert was the flourless chocolate cake with cream and strawberries. It was a perfect cap to the evening's meal. I've drove by this place many times but this was the first time I made a point to go and eat there. Makes me wonder why I haven't done this sooner. We spoke with the owners and was told this restaurant has been here for 45 years. Amazing when you do it right, people just keep coming. So glad I came in and will make sure I come back. They had the two of us and two other bar attending patrons. It was empty !!! Your bar tender sets the tone for the experience. We won't go back and we are local, and the bar tender is why. We love local and if the locals won't go back you better look at the bartender for being an obstruction !!! What I can say in my experience and my wife's is this guy obviously HATEs women. His disrespect was quite evident toward a my wife and will make your event miserable. If miserable at dinner is your thing, this is your place. He was revoltingly insulting and rude to my wife who only was worried her drink was altered and refused the check. there's good reason this place was empty. Damon Baehrel, which is named after the chef himself, is probably considered the most exclusive restaurant in the world. It is literally a one-man show, as Chef Baehrel is the one who cooks, serves, and hosts a 5-6+ hour-dining experience for his guests at his beautiful home on his 12-acre property in upstate NY. As most know, this restaurant is booked solid until the year 2026, and they have not been taking any reservations/adding parties onto their waiting list since last year/'14 (this is for an indefinite period of time) - you bet your tootin' bootin' that I felt so victorious for bypassing others on the list by 11+ years!!! (Just note that it really doesn't matter 'who' you are, 'who' you know, and/or if you come equipped with a list of multiple referrals.) Known for his 'Native Harvest Cuisine,' every single item on his menu (besides the seafood that is brought fresh from Nova Scotia from his private supplier) is made/created/raised on the premise - when I mean every item, I mean EVERY item, from the flours, pressed oils, vinegars, breads, to the curing his own meats and aging his own cheeses! This restaurant is the epitome and the prime definition of what 'farm-to-table' should really be! We were welcomed warmly from Chef Baehrel, and I was super excited that we were his only guests for the evening - YES, IT WAS JUST THE 3 OF US, THE HUBS, ME, AND THE CHEF!!! (I think I literally sobbed right on the spot). I put in my…read morereservation request in August 2012 and fully expected a 5-year minimum wait but to my delight I was able to snag a "special seating" on a Sunday at 4pm. It helps to be flexible with your dates and within driving distance. 20 courses (!), 4.5 hours. 5 hour round trip drive. 1 car rental. Completely worth it. Damon Baehrel is the ultimate host, completely charming and engaging. My wife and I were the only guests and it was awesome! Not awkward at all. What I loved about the meal, besides his "Native Harvest" dishes, was that by the end of it you can start to understand his botany heavy food lexicon, as certain themes started to emerge. Stevia and clover as thickening agents, all sap everything, powders galore, nut flours, fermentation trickery, homemade cheese. Homemade everything! (except some salt and the seafood/wine). Hearing his insanely detailed and clever course preparations makes you feel guilty about eating all of these small bites in less than 30 seconds. Damon paces the meal perfectly, always happy to chat and answer your questions at length. He takes great satisfaction in his cooking and sharing his techniques. This meal is about learning the process as much as it is about eating, and both are better for it. There were some items that sounded cooler than they tasted, but overall each dish was solid. The highlights for me were the teal duck and the duck egg "creme brulee". I guess I like duck. If you are fortunate enough to get a reservation here come with an open mind and don't expect a rich fancy-pants food experience or you will be disappointed. PS - Leaving a one-star review for a restaurant you have never eaten at just because you can't get a reservation is pathetic.

When you walk in, you pass through a curtain and are immediately greeted by a coat attendant who takes your coats, which instantly gives the place an upscale feel. The ambiance is well done, with soft lighting and nice background music. It is on the smaller side and dimly lit, but that is clearly intentional. The menus actually light up, which was a unique and thoughtful touch that fits the atmosphere perfectly. We had reservations and were seated right away.
