Reviews made me come but unfortunately my review isn't the best. Great service with a smile and nice interior, but the food, which we had high hopes for, is just bland. The calamari tasted good, but that's hard to get wrong. The fish tacos were not great. I've also never had fried fish in a taco. The wrap was tasteless and I ended up leaving two of the three. We were traveling from Virginia to Maine and stopped in Great Barrington for the night. After looking thru Yelp suggestions and reviews for places to eat dinner we decided on Fiddleheads and we were very glad we did. You can't miss the bright blue exterior as you drive down the road. There is more than ample parking. When you step in the door you will be greeted with looks of warm wood on the floors and walls. There is a nice bar area and the TV was on the football game. We were greeted promptly and seated quickly. I commented on the fireplace at the far end of the restaurant and was pleasantly surprised when we were seated in front of a nice comfortable real wood burning fireplace. The server quickly greeted us and took our drink orders. My husband decided on the clam strip dinner which came with 2 sides. He chose coleslaw and Mac and cheese. He described the clam strips as sweet and perfectly cooked. The coleslaw was creamy and not over vinegary and the Mac and cheese was delicious especially the crispy top. I had a Caesar salad with homemade Caesar dressing and shaved Parmesan. I added grilled chicken. It was perfect! The grilled chicken was moist the salad dressing was creamy and tasted exactly how you would imagine it should. We shared a warm apple caramel crumb cobbler a la mode for dessert. YUM!! Almost forgot the onion straw appetizer! Just order them! Not greasy, perfectly cooked, and delicious! Ambience was comfortable, food was great, service was prompt and friendly. I think it is only a few years old but the food seems to be stuck in the 1960s. The batter on the fish and chips was pretty awful and the dressing on the Caesar salad was not at all good.. the problem was compounded by there being so much of it. We stopped by because there was a big line at the place we were going to go to. It was delicious. I got a burger with bacon and onion straws. I would marry the onion straws. You have to stop in at this local restaurant in Great Barrington on Route 7. I had the the Pork Schnitzel, and my friend had the delicious salmon. Both entrees were served with fresh vegetables. My pork dish came with whipped mashed potatoes. The salmon came with wild rice. The casual dining with a "fireplace" had such a warm inviting atmosphere. Tables are spaced apart so you were very comfortable. We enjoyed our meal and service so much, we made future reservations. Max was our server who was extremely attentive to our every need. You gotta check out this gem of a restaurant in the midst of this mountain retreat. A perfect country restaurant you must not miss. Do make reservations!!! I came here during the COVID pandemic. May I say, this was worth a 3 hour car ride from NJ. Last night was my third good meal here. It's located a couple of miles south of the center of town. A very nice space, modern, open, not pretentious. The bar is very pleasant and many folks choose to eat there. Wait staff is adequate- they skew young. The food is excellent. Last night I had a great rack of house smoked ribs. They were tender and juicy. The whole rack for $24 provides TWO meals. My wife's duck in 2 styles was great- a tender medium rare breast and a leg that was falling of the bone. Other dishes observed looked excellent. The chef/owner has cooked at several of the Berkshires finest white table cloth restaurants. The food here is as good, at 80% of their prices. What a find in Great Barrington! Fiddleheads is a gem of a restaurant that's just far enough from the middle of town. We've been coming to GB for over 30 years and, with many quality eateries popping up and thriving, this one is a little different with plenty of room and none of the parking issues of many of the other in-town joints. Located south of town on route 7, Fiddleheads' ambiance upon first entrance is warm and inviting. The ample, full bar and polished wood decor inside drew us in. We chose to eat outside on the deck which was shaded and pleasant on a hot summer evening allowing for our young kids to run around on the LARGE back lawn, play corn hole, and kick a soccer ball (courtesy of the restaurant) without bothering anyone. Drinks: T&T $7. Glass of Sauvignon Blanc $8 Food: Everything came out HOT! My wife had the winner- Pork Schnitzel in a lemon-caper sauce. Rack of ribs was tasty with a sweet bbq sauce on the side with a large mound of fries under it and decent Cole slaw. No kids' menu BUT...ordered plain pasta for the 3-y-o and only charged for a "kid's portion." 7-y-o ordered basked of chicken fingers from appetizer menu which was the perfect portion with a huge amount of fries.
