    Beautiful fireplace

We were traveling from Virginia to Maine and stopped in Great Barrington for the night. After looking thru Yelp suggestions and reviews for places to eat dinner we decided on Fiddleheads and we were very glad we did. You can't miss the bright blue exterior as you drive down the road. There is more than ample parking. When you step in the door you will be greeted with looks of warm wood on the floors and walls. There is a nice bar area and the TV was on the football game. We were greeted promptly and seated quickly. I commented on the fireplace at the far end of the restaurant and was pleasantly surprised when we were seated in front of a nice comfortable real wood burning fireplace. The server quickly greeted us and took our drink orders. My husband decided on the clam strip dinner which came with 2 sides. He chose coleslaw and Mac and cheese. He described the clam strips as sweet and perfectly cooked. The coleslaw was creamy and not over vinegary and the Mac and cheese was delicious especially the crispy top. I had a Caesar salad with homemade Caesar dressing and shaved Parmesan. I added grilled chicken. It was perfect! The grilled chicken was moist the salad dressing was creamy and tasted exactly how you would imagine it should. We shared a warm apple caramel crumb cobbler a la mode for dessert. YUM!! Almost forgot the onion straw appetizer! Just order them! Not greasy, perfectly cooked, and delicious! Ambience was comfortable, food was great, service was prompt and friendly. We would go back.

Food was really good. We definitely will be back the next time we are in the area. The inside had a good vibe and a beautiful fireplace.

So happy this place is open during covid! Amazing fresh food and good portion sizes! I highly recommend checking this place out if you are in the area. The service is great as well and establishment has welcoming warm atmosphere.

We stopped by because there was a big line at the place we were going to go to. It was delicious. I got a burger with bacon and onion straws. I would marry the onion straws. My husband got one of the best bowls of French onion soups we've ever eaten and solid fish tacos. Lots of food, huge excellent bloody marys. Eat here!!

It was pretty much out of the way, but worth it, hardly anyone there. Food was good, pretty average though.

Overpriced, grumpy servers, and took so long to get nachos yet they were still somehow cold upon arrival. Will not be going back

Service was a little off, but that was due to shift changes. Food was excellent. Need to try the bar soon.

Since we were driving from Cambridge to Egremont -- about three hours -- to celebrate a special occasion with friends who live nearby, we called to ask whether they could make an exception. The manager gladly did. A few hours before the reservation, however, the OWNER called and brusquely informed us that they do not take reservations for parties of four and that "maybe they could accommodate us," before launching into an unnecessary lecture about their 5+ policy -- essentially cancelling our reservation. Why do that to your customers? Unfortunately, it didn't stop there. When we arrived, he was again rude and dismissive, seating us at a tiny table in the corner of the bar that was clearly too small for dinner. Thankfully, the manager stepped in, rescued the evening, and moved us to the main dining room, where we ended up having a wonderful night with our friends. She also checked in throughout the evening to make sure our experience improved, and her professionalism genuinely turned things around. As for the food: we ordered the Smoked Fish Pate appetizer, the Grilled Salmon, and the Artichoke and Goat Cheese Ravioli. The pate was exceptional -- layered, balanced, and memorable. The salmon was perfectly cooked, flavorful, and refreshingly not buried under heavy marinades. The ravioli was also excellent. Dessert was a rich chocolate cake that capped off an otherwise delightful meal. The decor, service, and overall comfort were all A+. This easily could have been a five-star evening, but the owner's unjustified hostility convinced me that this is not a place I would return to.

The soft pretzel, made fr spent brewer's grain was really good! The cheddar ale soup was a bit disappointing. It delivered on the ale, but the soup was thin and had a kind of gritty texture. Not the creamy texture you'd expect in a cheese soup. My wife got the brisket sandwich with fries. It was odd. Normally brisket is served sliced which accentuates the tenderness, but this was pulled, like pulled pork. The flavor was okay. I had the chicken pot pie which was okay. I wouldn't order it again. We didn't like the service at all. The staff wasn't really welcoming at all. When I went to the bar to pay for a four pack of brown ale, I waited probably five minutes before anyone paid attention to me. Two servers and the bartender all basically ignored me, and the bar wasn't busy. The bartender was engaged in small talk with other patrons. The highlights were the beer and the chocolate stout cake, which we took home. The beer is excellent. I had a brown ale and a stout. The chocolate stout cake with chocolate ganache is really good! In the end, the other reviews I saw were pretty accurate. Beer - great! Food - meh. Service - not good.

Upon arriving, our table was ready up near the front window which allowed for fun people-watching. Our waiter did a good job - drinks were fine, menu was a bit limited if one is looking for a nice entree offering, but we selected hangar steak, fish & chips, homemade pasta bowl, etc and they were fine. The one problem which turned a perfectly good experience into one which all of my guests commented on was that after dropping $500 moments earlier, we waited by the host's stand to use the restroom, and each time the waiter/owner? passed by, he said excuse me in an irritated manner, even though a couple times he wasn't even bringing any food out. We were not blocking the passageway nor creating any noise - just waiting for the restroom after dining at their establishment. A little attitude adjustment for his guests' patronage (or an additional restroom) would've made all the difference in whether guests would choose to return to his establishment. Ah well.. thank goodness we in the Berkshires have lots of wonderful options!
