A Valentine's dinner that did not impress! Valentine's has always been a very special holiday for me. My husband and I decided to spend the weekend in the Berkshires, which was lovely and quiet. I made reservations ahead of time for this highly rated wine bar and very close to where we were staying. First off, due to the previous weather/storms they had no street parking. But luckily we parked in a nearby lot. Upon arrival, the restaurant bar area was very nice and romantic. The server brought us to our table but I was a bit disappointed in the ambiance. I mean the bar area was a bit darker and the table that we were being seated at had a lot of light. Now, don't get me wrong, It was Valentine's day which screams romantic and there was no romantic vibe to this restaurant. After mentioning this to our server she did move us and turned down the lights a bit which was much better. Food/Drinks: The menu was not big at all which was nice. I ordered a dirty martini to start which needed more olive juice and my husband ordered a rum cocktail which he enjoyed. For starters, I ordered their Over Roasted Parsnip which was very good and filling. My husband had their Beet Salad which he said was excellent. For entrees, I had their Seared Duck Breast. I really enjoyed the caramel sauce but did not love the duck itself. My husband had the Oven Roasted Chicken Statler which was very dry he could barley eat it. Also, since this is a wine bar I will say the wines were nothing special which was also a bit disappointing. I wish they had something unique and special to offer especially being on a Valentine's Day. I feel this place may be more of a summer destination. Service: Service was excellent I will say. Our server was always asking how things were, checking on us and if we needed anything and asking about any additional drinks. etc. Also, the Manager came over to ask how everything was but he spefically looked at me. I think my husband would've mentioned his meal being dry if he looked at him as well but my husband could've spoken up too. We did say something to our server after she asked about the chicken dish, which they ended up taken off the bill which was very nice. Overall: I didn't love Alta Wine Bar my first time here, but I would come back in the spring or summer months when the weather is warm to try it again. Cheers~ read more

Went here for a celebration meal with my husband. Every course was delectable: we had a three course meal - the fresh soup, and pork cheek bourgignon, and dessert were all exceptional. The service was quick and helpful, and the interior was cozy and warm. Cannot wait to come back to eat outside when the weather improves. I don't know much about the area but after some brief research Alta seemed like one of the places we should make sure to visit during a short stay in the Berkshires. We were able to snag a reservation for 6pm on a Wednesday. The staff were exceptionally friendly, especially the host. The clientele is definitely of a post-retirement age. A lot of walkers around. Like I said already, the service was excellent. The cocktail menu was also enticing. I ordered Lisa's Favorite (house jalapeno infused tequila, agave, muddled orange and cilantro, lime juice) and idk who Lisa is but we have very similar taste. GF ordered the Cherry Rose Gimlet with gin, lime, tart cherry, and rose syrup. These cocktails were not only a sight to behold but were some of the best cocktails I have ever had. They weren't too strong or too sweet. The flavors were balanced perfectly. Really outstanding drink program. We started things off with the burrata. The toast with that (arugula?) pesto topped with the burrata was so fucking good. The toast was surrounded by a sea of strawberries and cherry tomatoes in a balsamic like dressing that I unfortunately got a touch of on my shirt sleeve. Ugh. I could hae done without the strawberry and tomato thing but the rest was very good. I LOVE the vegetarian options, the possibility of having tofu as a protein in addition to the more standard animal based options. I ordered the spaghetti with tofu. The serving was GIGANTIC. Like an entire plate full of pasta and two massive slabs of grilled tofu. You definitely get your money's worth. When I put it in a box (and then subsequently left in the hotel fridge the next day) the box was legit heavy. It would have been a nice tool if I had been attacked on the way home but this does seem like a low crime area. My only criticism was that I wasn't particularly fond of the flavors of the pasta. It was a little sweet and I would have preferred more of a savory/umami direction with spaghetti but I am very opinionated regarding when and where things should be sweet. There is a time and place. Ice cream? Yes. Candy? Yes. Popcorn? No. Spaghetti? No. I will say that I appreciated that they didn't salt the shit out of everything just to make it taste good. I can see why people love this place, I think it's a very solid spot, I just probably ordered the wrong thing. I almost forgot, GF ordered the trout special which she seemed to really enjoy. read more

On vacation, and per recommendation from our hotel decided to come here. Definitely, glad we came here. We sat down and we quickly got our water and bread. Shortly after we ordered drinks. Our waitress told us the specials and gave us a moment to think it over. My husband and i decided to share the smoked braised brisket - beautiful presentation. My husband had the pork cheeks bourguignon and I had the special- rainbow trout with mashed potatoes, spinach, etc. Both dishes came out hot and both were delightfully satisfying. The manager even came over to check on us and to make sure we were having a good meal and that service was good. I was very appreciative of his attentiveness. We ended with the chocolate mi-cuit. Perfect indulgence to share. Overall, excellent meal. For anyone in the area, this is definitely a fine dinning experience. read more

My husband and I enjoyed a lovely dinner while visiting the scenic town of Lenox with its beautiful Berkshire Botanical Garden, Ventfort Gilded Age Mansion and of course, the famous Tanglewood venue nearby. We were graciously greeted by the host and very good server. For dinner we enjoyed - Mediterranean salad and Foie Gras to start. For entrées, I enjoyed the seared Duck and hubs enjoyed the Fettuccine pasta. Both were accompanied by excellent wine recommendations that complimented the cuisine. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu here! We each started with a wine flight of 3, pre-selected by the staff. All of the wines were incredible and a generous serving for $18. The fresh bread and butter just melts in your mouth. We shared a mushroom appetizer that was so tasty, we ended up using the mushroom sauce on our bread, omg! I enjoyed the special - a steelhead trout over potatoes and asparagus with an amazing chive sauce. We were celebrating our anniversary and the server brought out two pistachio macaroons, nice touch and so thoughtful. Alta knows hospitality! A wonderful experienced at Alta Restaurant in Lenox, MA over the weekend. Reservations were easy to make via Resy for the desired time with a quant table by the window on a rainy, cool, March night. The food was very good and service attentive. For starters we tried the squash and carrot soup which was very tasty with a drizzle of aioli on top. On such a chilly night, if it were just a little hotter it would have been 5 stars. The Alta salad was also ordered and enjoyed with a very good size even for sharing with plenty of greens, roasted squash, candied walnuts and blue cheese. Main dishes included the roasted chicken statler which we swapped out the garlic mashed for regular mashed potatoes. The chicken was fall off the bone tender with a nice raisin, grape, spinach and Brussel sprout accompaniment. The pan seared salmon was perfectly cooked to order with equal seared and tender, flaky filet. I could have done without the mint creamy sauce as there was already much going on flavor wise with the glazed and pickled beets plus beet purée. We would order both again, but most likely will try another menu items such as the beef tenderloin or butternut squash risotto on a cool, damp night. We didn't really have room for dessert, but ordered the black raspberry with chocolate chips ice cream from a local dairy plus the Chocolate Mi-Cuit which is basically a molten lava cake served with vanilla ice cream from the same local dairy. It was delicious and perfectly cooked and served. It was nice to have a visit from the owner to check on us and service was strong. Well done Alta! We will see you again this summer. read more

Fantastic food and timely service. Unfortunately the entire evening was interrupted every 4-5 minutes with the broken front door. Every patron or wait staff entering and exiting lead to interruptions from the extremely loud "BANG!" front door. Throughout our dinner multiple customers at the front of the restaurant would look up, cover their ears, or brace themselves when they saw someone coming and going. This needs to be fixed, it's detracting from the otherwise lovely food. read more

Upon entering my wife and I were graciously greeted by the host. He was kind and genuinely happy to serve us. We were shown to our table and met by Carolyn our server. She was wonderful and attentive from start to finish. She offered suggestions, specials, and helped pair our wines. I ordered the duck and my wife the tenderloin, both were cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. They were delicious and hot. We had a wonderful dinner and dessert was fantastic too. The Paris-Brest and Chocolate Mi-Cuit were delicious and finished the meal off nicely. The ambience was comforting and inviting and not to over the top, just perfect. July 2025 This is my first ever Yelp review. I love eating great food and drinking excellently paired wine. Alta exceeded my expeditions. I sat at the bar. The food (burrata, striped bass, and bartender recommended merengue) were all amazing. The wine flight was on point and Justin (I think that was his name) picked wines based on my stated preferences. Justin (he had a nice of humor) was incredible: attentive, knowledgeable, and easy going. A trifecta. It's rare that during the dessert I am saying "wow" out loud, but the merengue with berries was just that good. The manager checked in with me several times and this meal was just what I needed after a long hike at the Audubon sanctuary in Lennox. The place was packed and never did I feel rushed. I'll be back and next time with my wife. Alta is the best restaurant my wife have ever dined! We traveled to Alta to dine there for our 40th Anniversary, and it was worth the trip. We began our meal with warm freshly baked bread and butter. We then shared an Alta house salad and beef biscuit appetizer. For our entrees, I had the duck breast, and my wife had the broiled salmon, and both were exceptional! Every single aspect of our meal was amazing! Our server Tyler was very knowledgeable of the menu options and helped guides through our menu choices. Tyler was amazingly friendly and cordial too. The General Manager came to our table to chat with us and we were delighted with his hospitality and care for our dining experience on our special day. Our meals were so filling we didn't have room for desert, but our server brought us 2 delicious French macarons which were also delicious. Suffice to say that Alta helped our 40th wedding anniversary truly memorable, and we are eternally grateful. We felt truly Blessed! read more

I stumbled upon Alta while walking around Lenox looking for a drink and dinner spot before catching a play nearby. We sat at the bar as the host didn't want to seat us outside unless we were definitely ordering food. We lucked out at the bar as the patrons were friendly and the bartender Lisa provided awesome service. There were six beers on draft. Mix of macros and craft. I choose the rotating IPA which was a local brewed New England style IPA. Super hazy and juicy. They had some wines and a full bar including some whiskey options. The bartender was quick and incredibly accommodating. We greatly appreciated her service. We ended up sharing a few items. First, we had the babaghanoush and a side of fries. Babaghanoush was more like a hummus. Pretty garlic forward which I liked. It came with some eggplant chips and crostini. My favorite part was dipping the complimentary hot bread in the spread. Fries were a mix of hand cut Idaho potato and sweet potato. For the main course, we shared the braised pork cheeks. They kindly split the serving into two for us to make it easier to share. The pork cheeks were served over mashed potatoes with spinach and mushrooms. Everything was covered in a rich jous style gravy. Atmosphere was flexible. Some folks dressed nicely. Other folks were casual. Nobody seemed judgmental to me. There were two single occupancy restrooms. Both were handicap accessible. I came here with my mom and my grandma to meet with my aunt and my cousin for dinner. My cousin and I split the Caesar salad and for my entree, I had one of the meat dishes. Even though some of the appetizers had gluten in them, I was in the process of trying gluten out to see how it would affect me. The food was delicious, the restaurant was spacious, there was beautiful art in the restaurant and the bathrooms were clean. Our drinks were pretty good too, and our server was really kind. One thing that I would have changed about the experience was that one of the people sitting at the table next to us was kind of rude, and I didn't really appreciate how the restaurant didn't do anything about how she was speaking to staff and other patrons. that didn't tarnish the experience and we all still had a great time though. In addition, a group of people who were leaving stopped to "talk" to people who were seated. They yelled for 10-15 minutes. Asked the hostess to ask them to tone it down. She told me she was busy with other things! A nibble or an offer if a comped dessert would have been nice. We were seated at a corner table where both a chair and the table were so wobbly, I couldn't believe that the staff had not noticed this. We swapped the chair with one at the next table, and our table was stabilized with several shims at our request. Noise level at the bar on a Saturday night was high. After two, I was definitely tipsy which I welcomed! I had the special, a lamb dish that was shredded with a beet purée and a savory sauce. It was different than what I usually have but good. Alta is by far the best restaurant in Lenox. During my time in the Berkshires, I went to Alta a total of 6 times. The food was amazing, the ambiance was great, and all of the staff were super nice every time. My favorite dish was the pan roasted beef tenderloin. It was cooked to perfection every time and paired great with the garnishes. The demi glace, spinach, and sarladaise potatoes were all delicious and complimented the steak. The plating also looked great. I ended up getting the steak 3 times. The roasted chicken statler, the seared duck breast, and the Alta burger were also all prepared to the same excellence as the steak. The burrata was my favorite starter. The burrata itself was super fresh and the salad had the perfect balance of sour and sweet with the tomatoes and peaches. The foie gras was also good - very fatty. The side fries were also really tasty and were a pretty big portion. My favorite dessert was the mi-cuit but the creme renversee and tart were also good. The mocktails were decent but were $7. Overall, my only complaint is that they did not take Apple Pay! read more

We said we'd be out within 30 min when their next reservation would arrive. But he insisted in a very condescending and brusque tone that they just couldn't accommodate. Fabulous restaurant from start to finish! Service was excellent and attentive. I love when a restaurant leaves a bottle of water on the table! Food was delicious and presented well.
