We were hungry after a visit to Winter Lights at Naumkeag. The cocktails and beers we had were top notch! And the small shareable plates were so good. We had two of the griddled chicken thighs and the potato croquettes. Our friend had the shrimp and onion rings. All of the aiolis were incredibly flavorful. The food was soooooo good and we finished them so fast, I forgot to take pictures of the first round.

A sister restaurant to Brava. Friendly and welcoming staff with an extensive beer and wine list. Variety of small plates which are perfect for sharing. I love the red wines and the arugula salad is my favorite. Open until 1am so perfect after show place to hang.

Food and drinks great, it's a shame that the staff seems to lack a community oriented approach.

Extremely noisy. Not a place for any kind of conversation especially on a Monday night.

A Valentine's dinner that did not impress!…read more Valentine's has always been a very special holiday for me. My husband and I decided to spend the weekend in the Berkshires, which was lovely and quiet. I made reservations ahead of time for this highly rated wine bar and very close to where we were staying. First off, due to the previous weather/storms they had no street parking. But luckily we parked in a nearby lot. Upon arrival, the restaurant bar area was very nice and romantic. The server brought us to our table but I was a bit disappointed in the ambiance. I mean the bar area was a bit darker and the table that we were being seated at had a lot of light. Now, don't get me wrong, It was Valentine's day which screams romantic and there was no romantic vibe to this restaurant. After mentioning this to our server she did move us and turned down the lights a bit which was much better. Food/Drinks: The menu was not big at all which was nice. I ordered a dirty martini to start which needed more olive juice and my husband ordered a rum cocktail which he enjoyed. For starters, I ordered their Over Roasted Parsnip which was very good and filling. My husband had their Beet Salad which he said was excellent. For entrees, I had their Seared Duck Breast. I really enjoyed the caramel sauce but did not love the duck itself. My husband had the Oven Roasted Chicken Statler which was very dry he could barley eat it. Also, since this is a wine bar I will say the wines were nothing special which was also a bit disappointing. I wish they had something unique and special to offer especially being on a Valentine's Day. I feel this place may be more of a summer destination. Service: Service was excellent I will say. Our server was always asking how things were, checking on us and if we needed anything and asking about any additional drinks. etc. Also, the Manager came over to ask how everything was but he spefically looked at me. I think my husband would've mentioned his meal being dry if he looked at him as well but my husband could've spoken up too. We did say something to our server after she asked about the chicken dish, which they ended up taken off the bill which was very nice. Overall: I didn't love Alta Wine Bar my first time here, but I would come back in the spring or summer months when the weather is warm to try it again. Cheers~

Arugula salad was very good - apricots and cheese were a great addition, there was a little too much sherry vinaigrette. Boom boom shrimp had a nice subtle kick and crispy! Tomato and basil soup was warm and tasty, paired well with side of bread. Wings come 8 in an order and the habanero delivered on the spice! Beautiful ambiance indoors with mood lighting. Bathrooms are also very spacious and clean!

I'm not sure if it was an off night, but unfortunately, it wasn't my favorite and I'm not sure I would go back. There are definitely a lot of pros, it was easy to make a reservation, we were promptly seated at a clean and quiet table once we arrived, and the service was overall pretty timely. However, the food and drink left a little bit to be desired. As vegetarians, split a pizza (the olives and mozzarella one) and the kale salad. The salad was fine, but the carrot and tomato was pretty sparse, and the kale felt like nothing had been done to it, like it hadn't been massaged or seasoned or anything so it had a very raw flavor. The pizza was super salty and felt very onenote. It felt like the sauce was a little bit salty, and then the olives, garlic, and oregano were just all very savory. At the end of the night we split a bread pudding for the table, which also wasn't my favorite - the bread was really hard and just hadn't been soaked enough in whatever the flavoring was to mask it. It's possible that they do much better with the meat dishes?

We waited for some time for our food and weren't offered any bread. Which at first I thought was kind of different compared to other Italian restaurants or steakhouses which is fine BUT At the end of the meal, we saw the server proactively giving bread to all the tables around us. When I asked why we weren't offered any, he just said it was 'by request only.' Which is inaccurate coz I heard him say --here's some bread and olive oil to eat while you guys are waiting. We were well-dressed, smiling, polite, respectful and noticed we were the only Asians in the room. It honestly felt were singled out or ignored, especially seeing everyone else get better service. It was an unwelcoming experience. Even when we first came in we weren't accompanied to our table the guys just pointed --there that's your table. We didn't sit yet because the table was plated for 4 people and there's 5 of us. So when he noticed we're still standing he approached us and I said sorry I wasn't sure if this is for us because there's 5 of us and he said unapologetically "well you didn't call to reserve". Well even if we didn't reserve it doesn't mean we cannot get a little customer service.. like " I apologize for the inconvenience it's the only table available " or is there anything else I can offer to make it a little more comfortable for you and your family. Overall is a 3 over 5. Steak was good. The bread itself wasn't really a big deal it's just the being treated differently.

Ugh, what a disappointment. We had such high hopes and even drove an hour to try this place…read more Unfortunately, the meal--and the long wait for it--were major letdowns. We started with the table wine and three appetizers. The cheese plate included only three very small slices of cheese, a bit of lettuce, and a few apple slices. The trio of salads was just okay, comparable to what you might find in a grocery store deli. The eggplant was the only appetizer we truly enjoyed. For our entrées, the 50 dollar sirloin steaks we ordered medium rare arrived well done, and the gnocchi had an extremely soft, almost snot-like texture. Overall, the food was just sad. To make things worse, we waited almost two hours for our entrées--even though the restaurant was empty on a Friday night. Now we understand why. Our server was very sweet and did their best, but the experience as a whole was terrible. Our exit was extremely memorable as we walked by the kitchen on our way out and were hit in the face with cigarette smoke. We won't be returning. We loved Rouge, the previous restaurant in this location, but unfortunately this new spot doesn't hold a candle to it.
