This was the first place we came as a giant family of 8 for dinner. It's dog friendly inside and we had 2 dogs with us. It was hard in the past to find places for all of us but now it's even more difficulty because we still have my extremely picky BIL who has stomach issues, GERD, and a multitude of other issues, and now we have a vegan-ish person who tries to stay vegan but eats cheese, dairy, and eggs. So finding places to satisfy everyone is more complicated. This place met our needs and can meet yours: dog friendly, vegetarian options, and has something for even the pickiest of people. Me and another person got the strip steak, my husband got the Philly cheesesteak, MIL got the wunderbar burger, FIL got salmon burger, the vegan-ish got a veggie burger and one of the salads, which he split with his wife the SIL, and my picky BIL got the chicken sandwich. He freaked out over the sandwich because he wanted to know why it was moist and not dry. His partner and I were like, "You can have fully-cooked, moist chicken. Dry chicken isn't the only cooked option." But he continued to have a meltdown over his perfectly cooked chicken. He did eat it though. Family can drive you nuts sometimes. Anyways, despite the meltdown, I think we were all satisfied with our food. I did find the mashed potato on the steak to be very creamy but everything else on the plate was very good. Steak was cooked medium-rare liked I asked. Overall, the place is very good, excellent food, excellent service, and it was a busy night. read more

Tried the Wunderbar Bistro while visiting the Catskills. Great neighborhood ambience with lots of locals eating and at the bar! Ordered mozz wedges, bacon gouda burger and chicken sandwhich. Wedges were crispy and hit the spot. The burger was just ok not much flavor unfortunately. The chicken sandwich was similar. No sauce just seemed like baked chicken between buns--very dry. Fries were ok. It was busy, so a popular spot, perhaps we just didn't hit the jackpot on this night. read more

I was in the area with my family so we stopped here on a Friday around 4. We were seated right away, ordered and got our food within a few minutes, which is great since we have 2 young kids. I did take away 1 star for the kids menu prices which I found high. The kids chicken tenders and fries were $14. I feel like kids menu options should max around $10 imo. Besides that, all we ordered (hot wings, French onion soup, rodeo burger and kids cheeseburger and chicken tenders with fries), was delicious. I normally prefer saucy wings, which these weren't very saucy, but they still tasted good and were crispy. It was clean, the staff were all friendly and I would return sans kids in the future to have a drink at the hygge bar. read more

Food was delicious we split the BLT Salad and the Fried Cod dinner. The waitress was friendly and attentive. The Ambiance was dark and tavern like not like a modern bistro but had a casual Atmosphere. The Wunderbar Schnitzel at the Wunderbar Bistro in Hudson was terrific. I've had veal schnitzel a few times, but the bistro makes theirs with pork. It came out light and crispy. Not greasy. It made for a very filling lunch. The entree came with a Caesar side salad which looked and tasted very fresh. The problem was that I asked for dressing on the side. It seems the server forgot. To my disappointment, there was too much dressing mixed in. I didn't send it back. I generally don't do that. Besides, it was busy. Despite it being around 2pm, there were still people arriving for lunch. I ate most of the salad, tapping off the excess dressing. Our orders were brought to us by someone who appeared to be busing tables. I'd asked for water and a cider when we arrived. I got the cider right away, but I didn't get the glass of water until just before we got the check. Our server didn't return until we were ready to leave. The service was spotty, otherwise, I would have given the bistro five stars. The half hour drive from the Capital District can be scenic. There are several routes you can take and plenty of available metered on-street parking during the week. As far as seating, the bistro has a friendly bar and plenty of tables. There's also a sense of whimsy with cartoon drawings on the walls and a light up "applause" sign hung over the kitchen door. The schnitzel certainly deserved an applause. read more

Had a lovely lunch with friends. The food was amazing - between us we had the Wunderbar schnitzel, the Parmesan schnitzel and the bacon Gouda hamburger. All were delicious! We finished up with some yummy desserts as well. This place had a fantastic ambience with warm lighting. I'm giving it three stars for two reasons: the service and the seating. While our server was pleasant, it took forever to take our order, get our food, get the check, and pay the bill. While the restaurant was pretty full when we arrived, by the time we were done eating it was pretty empty. The bus boy did a terrific job getting us everything we needed, but I had to ask the waitress twice for a drink, and then it didn't arrive until I was halfway done with my meal. We were also seated at a table of three with another table of four right behind us, and it was too tight, so people kept bumping into us as they went through the aisle instead of going all the way around the bar area which was frustrating. We had a great lunch here recently. 6 of us arrived on a Saturday around 1pm. There wasn't an open table, so we sat at the bar. They had an interesting selection of beer and cocktails. All of us enjoyed our food. I had the buffalo chicken sandwich (pic). The menu said the chicken was hand-breaded and it tasted like it! The prices were very reasonable. Winder bar is known for their schnitzel- so we had to try it. None of us were disappointed! The Munich was perfectly crispy and tender and paired perfectly with the mashed potatoes. (Full confession- I added a tablespoon of Mayo and s&p to the cucumber salad) which wasn't necessary but I make that salad at home a lot so it was a personal preference. lol. The French onion soup - which is my fav, was very good, too. The cheese balls were different but ok. Everyone else loved their schnitzel too. Our server Kiersten was awesome. We thought when we were seated in the back room that we'd be forgotten, but she was attentive and friendly and really made our dining experience memorable. Cocktails were great too, and we couldn't resist dessert (to-go) We all wanted the carrot cake but there were only 2 slices left so one of us opted for the apple cake. We swapped notes the next morning- we all loved our desserts. So much in fact, that we are all conspiring on when we can return. We get how this is a popular local spot. We had an excellent time for New Year's Eve dinner - loved that they had lots of specials but didn't force a pre fixe menu. We really enjoyed everything we got including the special piggy wings and key lime pie. The cocktails were fun and themed well for the winter and holidays. There was a small issue with the men's bathroom, but not taking off points as they fixed the situation super quickly and we overheard them fixing a reservation mistake a patron made as well. We ate here for a business lunch on 2/21/25. It was busy and we waited for a table. The food was ok but the server clearing our table was so rude she spoiled the experience for us with her outspoken and aggressive rudeness. She immediately said "you couldn't wait for the table to be cleared before sitting down". The frail, elderly woman that I was with couldn't stand to wait and was uncomfortable sitting on a bar stool to wait, so she went to sit at the table as soon as it opened up. The same waitress exchanged words with us more than once confronting the elderly woman about a past experience with her, tried to take our pictured while in the restaurant and when we left. She bragged about working there for 14 years, so I guess she felt entitled to speak to customers with such callous disrespect. Coming from experience in the restaurant business, besides shear disgust, I felt bad for the owner, Lyle Lentz, to have such a liability on staff. Lunch for 2 with tip $65. The front staff saw us enter and had to seat the gentleman with a toddler ahead of us. After she sat them, knowing we were waiting, she had to chat with her colleague, prepare and served water and made us wait. She just took her time. Hmmmm. Laid back restaurant with that chill vibe. Overall, everything that we ate was not good. We had the bacon wrapped shrimp which really just tasted like greasy, fishy, bacon wrapped around over cooked, rubbery shrimp. Would not recommend. I got the farro grain salad and the chickpeas weren't cooked all the way through. My bf had a burger with soggy French fries. The service was okay. The ambiance was similar to a slightly upscale Applebees. If you're out in Hudson, don't bother going here, there are so many better places on the same street. read more

We went on a Wednesday night at about 8. We ordered a Greek salad, fish and chips and meatloaf. The Greek salad was fine. Nothing exceptional ,but what you would expect. Bottled dressing, predictable. No complaints. My meatloaf was pretty good. The mashed potatoes were excellent! Kudos. The green beans had no flavor at all, no seasoning at all, were not cooked enough but not that they were crisp, but instead were rubbery. Her fish and chips were terrible. Soggy batter, dry fish. The French fries were even worse, a soggy stuck together lump under the fish. She barely ate her meal. The wait staff was friendly when we came in and when they took our order. Sadly, once our meals were served, we didn't see anyone. If they had checked, we would have returned her meal and ordered something else, but alas, even though the place was not busy, they never appeared. Also, when given the bill, I noticed at the bottom, barely discernible, that they charge an added fee of 3% if you pay by credit card. I understand that credit card fees are a business cost but it's just that. A cost of doing business . I found it very off putting, but maybe because we were so disappointed in the meal that it rubbed me the wrong way as another aggravation. Here's a better idea. Offer a 3% discount if you pay in cash. I should note that the prices weren't low to begin with. The meatloaf was somewhere around $23 in a nothing fancy bar type of setting. Oh well. If it was just my meal, I would have rated it at least 3 stars. But again, hers was almost inedible. If I lived in Hudson, I might return and try other menu items. Other reviewers seem to like it. But as it stands as an occasional l visitor, there are several much better eateries around. read more

What a great find. We drove up to Olans to tour Frederic Church's home and continued on to Hudson for lunch. Service was decent, although I'll never understand why servers attempt to impress by not writing smithing down. So we never got our French Onion soup, which was a bummer cause the table across from us ordered it and it looked great. But the burgers we did receive were fantastic. Perfectly cooked to temp. This place has continued to impress us since we came last year. We would constantly talk about how good the French dip here was. When we arrived this trip we immediately went here. Unfortunately the French dip is no longer on the menu, but never fear because the Philly cheesesteak has come to take its place and it is fabulous! You can taste the beefy-ness of the meat. Really special. The burger was just as amazing. That is what I appreciate most about the amazing restaurants in Hudson. The ingredients are fantastic. As an aside. We have come three times in one week. Each time having fries in some capacity. The cheesesteak twice. The fries for some reason are so amazing. You taste the potato flavor deep in your taste buds. Not sure if it's the type of potato or the type of oil they use but these are some of the best fries I've had. I really really like these. They have two outdoor tables for seating. To put it in a nutshell, this place is welcoming without fuss, has warm- but dim lighting, Copper ceiling pipes and woods. Even for a late Tuesday Lunch, Wunderbar was (kind of) lively. It's a sit yourself kind of place so we grabbed a small table up front. I went for the gusto and decided on the Black Bean Burger, Onions, lettuce and tomatoes with a side of really nice and tasty load of skin-on French Fries while hubs had Buffalo wings- and all he said was- they were epic. Service was very nice and price too. By the way......Wunderbar owners are actively involved in the community, showcasing local artists' work in the restaurant. We actually sat right by a few Super hero-type drawings that went for a very reasonable $40. Had a nice time here- just check if reservations are accepted.
