    Clam chowder

Lunch was delicious at this cozy small tavern. It was a nice sunny fall day so we opted to dine on their small outside deck. Limited menu but our lunch was very tasty. My husband had clam chowder. I had an awesome burger with some of the best fries. Service was good. Metered off street parking.

Hudson has changed much over the last twenty years. There are lots of high-end restaurants now. But sometimes you're looking for a low-key place to have a few drinks, some burgers and watch a ballgame. Governor's Tavern is the place! Cheerful service, rustic old-time decor, reasonable prices and tasty burgers paired with a nice selection of craft beers make this a comfortable place to watch a game or to just hang out.

Outstanding burger and Caesar salad, a great Manhattan, and a terrific doppelbock on draft made for a terrific lunch for the two of us, and the kitchen and our tender/server was on his game! See you next year, Gov!

The fried chicken on Texas toast was so delicious with the avocado sauce on top! My friend enjoyed her burger. The food was top notch. We noticed that the place was packed with families and some young people at the bar. Either way, there was the olympics in the television playing the background. I noticed they had ciders, beer and wine available. Our waitress was amazing and checked in with us! I would like to recommend this spot. So yummy!

Stopped by here for dinner with my boyfriend. Our server was friendly and attentive, and our food was out fast. We ordered the popper roulette which was spicy but tasty and cheesy. The habanero one is hot! He ordered the Chicken Caprese (side Cajun fries) and loved it. The fresh Mozzarella cheese was delicious, the chicken was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The bread was a buttery Texas toast sure to please. I ordered the clam chowder bowl of soup and the Caesar salad. Both were delicious. The soup was creamy with lots of bacon and potatoes. I would've loved more fish though. As for the salad, it ranked top 5 Caesar in my book. The added breadcrumbs and freshly grated Parmesan made this simple dish phenomenal. Some room for improvement for the drinks. Mine were a bit weak but it might've just been a simple mishap. Overall, I would definitely recommend Governor's Tavern to anyone in the Hudson area. The ambiance is warm and rustic.

At first sight you may dismiss this place for a sports bar but sit tight...you will be delighted at the elegance smuggled into the sandwiches that go by names like 'Killah Bee' or 'Dirty Little Bastard'. Genuine ambition for gorgeous textures as in the fried chicken sandwich with a honey sauce and a pile of hand cut fries. 'I'm redeemed' remarked my older son. The clam chowder is generous with meaty clams, celery, potatoes and bacon. And the general vibe of the place is friendly- people getting together, bumping into friends, it's welcoming and we were there as guests having a getaway weekend coming up from Brooklyn.

Hubby and I stopped in on a Thursday evening around 9pm and it was quite the lively crowd - not overly crowded where you couldn't move but busy enough for a full bar and standing. We grabbed a table and were confused whether it was table service or not (it is) and settled on wonton nachos as a starter. These were amazing and had the right amount of crunch. I just wish the jalapeños were actually spicy. I liked how the wonton didn't get too soggy and held the toppings. The state burger was cooked to perfection (medium rare) and very well seasoned. The pickles tasted fresh and the crispy onions added just the right amount of texture for a perfect burger. I was really in the mood for spice and the waitress was kind enough to offer a mango habanero sauce on the side (it really was spicy). She was super sweet but it was hard to get service because she was also working behind the bar. Took awhile to get the check but nonetheless, the food was worth the wait.

This place was awesome. My husband and I popped in for Monday lunch. I had the jalapeño queso fried chicken sandwich and he had the truffle burger. All excellent. I want to go back and try more things. The service was excellent and patio appeared to be dog friendly. I need an excuse to get back to Hudson.

A tale of 4 breweries…read more So we tried to visit the brewery (#1) across the street for a flight and some food. It closed at 4, then we were going to have a beer at Return (#2) which opened at 4. The first place closed early (before 3:30pm), so we had some time to check out another spot (#3) a bit of a drive away. (5 min). The other place seemed fine, but since my spouse said the 4pm spot was good, we went back. Second customers in after opening, and I asked if they had any food or flights. He very politely told me that they did not have flights or food (tonight, but they did have some bagged snacks) and told me another brewery (#4) had both those things a short distance away (5-10 min/a few blocks). After chatting with the spouse (she and 3 kids had entered), we decided to stay. (Also, as a fun side-note, #4 is the one spouse thought she was taking us to.) We shared half a pilsner (Polished), half a gose (Speed Dial), and half an IPA (Westwhere). The Pilsner ended up being our 3rd favorite, but they were all tasty. We are not big drinkers, so we felt the 1.5 beers each! And since we were staying, we picked up a mandarin soda for the kids to share (special treat) and we all munched on a bit of popcorn, beef jerky, and Zapp's chips. It ended up being a great time! Very affordable, low-key, solid tunes, and super kid friendly. It's a big space, so noisy children are not too noticeable. Also, the man running the bar, again, was super cool. Highly recommend!

The gravel path pulls you in towards their outdoor area with picnic tables under big black+white umbrellas and there's a tent with white lights that'll be straight-up cozy once the sun goes down. You order at the bar, keep a tab if you're settling in and grab one of those tall number poles so they know where to bring your food. Inside, it's all high-tops and a clear view of the tanks cranking out their beer. Even though I've never been a beer drinker, I didn't mind coming to Subversive B's. Their online menu looked promising especially their vegetarian options. Though it wouldn't hurt if they threw in some seafood options too- but hey. I aimed for the Mediterranean Platter but I was told they "were all out". Grilled cheese the way I noticed online? Nope. Not in here. At this point, I didn't know how else to feel but resorted to their sweet potato+black bean tacos with red onions and Cotija. They slapped actually. Hubs tore into his buffalo wings and these Bavarian pretzels that were ridiculously soft and addictive. He washed it down with an ale, I stuck with a canned Paloma that hit harder than expected. The service is nice. The menu situation? Kinda irritating. Between the "we're out" moments and the website vs. reality mismatch, it's hard not to feel a little side-eyed about it. But the vibe, outdoor lights, beer tanks if you're a beer drinker, gravel under your feet, it's got charm.

The food menu is definitely limited, better for snacks than a meal. We got the esquites and it was ok, though a fairly small portion and the corn was either overcooked or canned. Either way, a shame at the height of local corn season. The cocktail menu seemed to highlight edgy and unconventional flavor pairings, which is generally my favorite kind of cocktail but both times the ones available were a bridge too far for my tastes. The wine list seems great, but each time I've asked questions the server or bartender has said they haven't tried it and had to go get the owner/manager. I've ordered local beer (none on tap, sadly, but some good local cans) and martinis, some of which are served in little swing top bottles on ice. When the bill came, I was shocked that our standard martinis cost $17 each, which was inexplicably more expensive than the fancy cocktails on the high proof menu (which all ranged from $14-16).

The second time it was oddly empty, but I generally have few complaints. The cocktails are delicious and original, and the list of tinned fish is unusual and vast. Sure, the food menu might not be for everyone (the few other reviews mention that the food is strange and/or unapproachable), but if you put aside your reservations what's offered really is quite good. I hope Padrona picks up in the coming months/years, because it's got great energy and has lots of potential. Most recently, we came here around around 8:30 on a Thursday night. As I mentioned, it was pretty empty. A few parties inside, a few outside. Not sure if it was just a down night or if people haven't discovered yet, but no matter. The place certain has potential for great vibes: good music, beautiful decor, nice feng shui. We ended up sitting at the bar just to get a front row seat to the action, which is always fun. I would say Padrona is much more of a drinks destination than a food destination, but we wanted to get a sense of the full menu so we ordered both, Drinks-wise, we like just about everything we tried. I started with the Haus Martini (olive oil washed gin, cocchi americano, salers, pickled tomato), which was such a smooth and elegant martini variation. I then tried the Pretty Hot Thing (mezcal, ancho reyes, yellow bell pepper, serrano pepper, honey), which had all the right components of a good mezcal drink - spice, smokiness, and vegetals notes. I finished with the most nightcap-worthy drink on the menu, the Smoke Gets in Your Eye (scotch, amaro china china, porter syrup) which was smoky, rich, and just delicious. My partner tried the OG Slush (mezcal, thai chili infused aperol, smoked agave, lime, sumac) and the French Gold (cognac, ginger liqueur, oro blanco grapefruit, honey, preserved grapefruit), and he preferred the flavor profile of the French Gold. The food here is fun and unique. I wouldn't recommend making a dinner out of it as we did (more on that in a moment), but I don't regret our approach. We ended up getting the English Pea and Mint Hummus, the Charcuterie and Cheese Board, the Nuri Spiced Mackerel, and the Razor Clams. I would say our favorites were the hummus and clams, but everything was solid. What I did not expect was the sheer amount of bread/crostini we received for dipping. Nothing could have prepared us for that! We ended up taking the leftovers home but in retrospect perhaps we could have ordered one fewer thing.
