We dined at the maker hotel for our girls trip and we had a great time. We were in a group of six people, and we made a reservation beforehand. The space is beautiful on the inside and outside. The menu is small but with plenty of options for appetizers and main entrées, we ended up splitting some appetizers a pasta dish and we each ordered a main dish, our favorites or the eggplant appetizer mushroom pasta, and peach appetizer. Overall, the staff were really friendly And I love the atmosphere. I would definitely dine in here again for special occasions. However, I would say that it's a bit expensive. read more

WOW. Talk about a beautiful atmosphere. We ate in the conservatory and it was an absolute dream. The staff were all extremely attentive. We ordered steak with squash, tiramisu, sorbet, and truffle fries. Everything was superb! It is worth noting they have an extended cocktail menu and there are offerings not listed on the main menu so be sure to ask the waiter before assuming what you see is all there is. Celebrated my husbands 30th birthday in the Catskills and made a reservation at The Maker after extensive research and what a perfect choice it was! The staff was so friendly throughout our dinner, from arrival to the end when we were shown the special lounge in the back by the hostess. When we walked into the conservatory dining room, I was taken back by how beautiful it was, especially on a clear summer evening. Once seated, our server told us the specials of the night and they all sounded delicious and we loved that she shared the prices along with their description. We ordered a few drinks along with an appetizer which we could not stop raving about. For entrees I chose a pasta while my husband chose the octopus (not shown) and we could not have asked for a better ending to our day. There's no denying that this restaurant knows how to set a scene. The moment my wife and I stepped inside, we were swept up by the old-school vibes--think vintage touches, warm lighting, and a comfortably inviting aesthetic. Starters My wife began with the parsnip soup special, which was delicious. It was a promising start. Main Courses My wife opted for the honey nut squash carbonara (without bacon), and here's where the night took its first major stumble. The dish was alarmingly bland--so lacking in flavor that she needed a heavy hand with the salt and pepper to rescue it. I took a bite and was very unimpressed. I chose the New York strip, served over spinach. Despite being cooked to my requested medium, the steak had a texture that felt suspiciously like it had been thawed too quickly--perhaps in a microwave--before cooking. At a steep $69, I expected a memorable cut of meat, but instead got a chewy lackluster entree. The spinach it was served over didn't help matters; it was overpowering in flavor, reminding me of the dreaded greens from my childhood that I'd do anything to avoid. Drinks I ordered the "Makerpolitan," which was decent enough--smooth, refreshing, and a bit of a palate cleanser given the less-than-stellar food. It wasn't remarkable, but it did the job. Service If the food was inconsistent, the service followed suit. Things began well, with attentive staff and timely check-ins. Midway through, however, our table seemed to vanish from the servers' radar entirely. The supporting wait staff was attentive but our server was MIA. Then, as if on cue, she reappeared toward the end of our meal, leaving us puzzled by the rollercoaster level of attention. Overall Experience For a restaurant that presents itself so beautifully, it was disappointing to find the food and service so uneven, especially at this price point. If you're looking for a place that's equally pleasing to the palate and the eye, there are likely better options nearby--ones that won't leave you feeling let down the moment the plates arrive. When visiting Hudson, NY we visited the We ordered the Caramelized Sweet Potatoes, Fresh Ricotta, Prosciutto di Parma, Local Honey. This was (in my opinion) way too overpriced for what we got. It was $25 for a couple slices of prosciutto, three sweet potato sticks, and some ricotta cheese. I thought the flavors were not bad. It tasted like glazed sweet potato that was well seasoned. I enjoyed it but would definitely not pay for it again. Also ordered the The Maker Burger with GF Bread. The burger was honestly quite good. I don't think it was very different or unique compared to a typical burger but it was yummy. Would recommend that. One huge plus is the ambience and vibe of the restaurant. We made reservations to sit in 'The Conservatory' which is in a greenhouse-esque space. With dim warm lighting, towering potted plants/trees, fun colorful chairs and couches, I definitely enjoyed the dining experience. It's a cute place and, overall, I would recommend coming for the experience not necessarily the food. This is a stunning bar and restaurant. I went on Christmas night and sat at the bar, which was very busy. There were two bartenders working and one was very stressed (the other was handling it well). There's a cozy table by the fireplace that opened up, a nice couple walked up and asked the stressed bartender if they could sit. Instead of saying, "merry Christmas or sure thing, it will just be a minute and I'll send someone over". She shrugged her shoulders and just says "it's gonna be a while". My date ordered two apps while we were at the bar and they brought them with no utensils, or napkins. Our water was warm and I had to request ice and it took a while to get a drink. Mind you during the entire hour we were there the miserable bartender was just mumbling complaints under her breath when customers would order drinks. So they either need to hire a bar back or staff extra for holidays as they were overwhelmed on an otherwise cheerful night. read more

This is a great spot for a fancy date night. I highly recommend getting a reservation if you want to go to the main restaurant, we sat on the more casual side. The other side is supposed to be more of an *experience* with cocktails in addition to their more extensive menu.The casual side has a smaller menu but exactly what we were in the mood for, burgers! Although this place was a little bougie and over priced, our burgers and fries were incredible. I will dream about this meal! Their take on the espresso martini was just ok - wouldn't order again. Posting a few months late, but when making a reservation here, I decided to overlook the Maker's 3.7 rating on yelp based solely on just how beautiful the interior decoration is. I thought to myself, they wouldn't put all this time, money, and effort into the rooms and the lobby and not into their restaurant, would they? And I'll be damned if they didn't do just that. Upon arrival, I was taken aback by the comforting ambience - the coziest parts of Christmas spirit were all around me and I felt like I was in a special holiday edition of the late, great Gramercy Park Hotel. There were at least three fires ablaze in the various lounge rooms and their crackling sounds complemented so nicely the muffled music and chatter. The reviews about the staff being rude are luckily something we were not able to relate to, as we were led to our seats by the kindest hostess and were sat in the glass conservatory (right next to their picture perfect Christmas tree) and served by a waitress who couldn't have been any friendlier if she tried. This was shaping up to be a date night nothing short of perfect until the food came to the table. I'm a huge potato leek soup fan, and this one would've been mediocre had there not been fish eggs as big as boba with the most horrid aftertaste. And from there the courses just got more and more disappointing. The salad was bitter, the pasta bland, and the dessert lackluster. However I might go again in the wintertime for its most perfect and cozy interior, that is if the menu is spruced up. I came here last weekend and enjoyed my dinner here. The reservation system is a little clunky. You can't just make reservations online, you have to submit a form and then they get back to you a few days later. They offer both indoor and outdoor dining. As far as I could tell, they only had about 4 outdoor tables, and they are in higher demand. They have nice heaters set up by each outdoor table and they will give you a blanket if you ask. The outdoor dining is perfectly spread out and is a cute little plaza in the interior of the building. The indoor area has an old world vibe. To drink, I got a hot toddy. When I first asked the waiter if they could make one, he had never heard of it and said he had to check with the bartender, but they ended up making it for me. It was good, but for sure not up to par with ski resort hot toddys. I had the tuna tartar for my appetizer which I enjoyed. I had the steelhead trout as my main which was really tasty. However, the description was a little misleading. It said that it came with cranberry beans, so I assumed it was a side portion, but when the food came, I saw that it was only about 10 beans. I was definitely expecting it to come with more of a side dish, so I would recommend ordering something from the "sides" section, as it was a small portion without a side. My only complaint was our waiter. He was not very friendly and would try to take our plates away before we were done eating. Literally as I was chewing still, he grabbed my dish. It was very awkward. It also took a bit for us to flag him down. He did not bring bread over to our table after we had ordered, despite there being a bread plate and butter knife. After a while, I asked him for it and he acted like it was being baked. A minute later, someone comes over with cold bread and butter. So I'm not sure what happened there, but it was definitely not freshly prepared. I'd say if you get lucky and don't have the same waiter that I had, I would recommend trying this restaurant. read more

It's with great disappointment that the Maker did not receive the coveted 3 lock award this past Saturday. And I am torn writing this review as this is a beautiful hotel with magnificent ambiance. The evening started off with my wife and her friend at the bar which is beautiful. The cocktails were delicious ,but from what I heard the bartenders weren't the friendliest. No big deal. When I arrived at the restaurant with my friend to meet our wives for dinner we were seated in the magnificent conservatory where we enjoyed a round of great cocktails followed up by 4 delicious appetizers. Unfortunately things took a downward turn on our entrees. 2 of us had the sirloin steaks at $50 a piece and they were very tough and chewy. I had the octopus which is one of my favorite dishes anywhere. The octopus was too salty to eat. And my wife's friend has a clam and pasta dish and it also was way over-salted. We did enjoy a nice bottle of Chateau Neuf Du Pape and had some excellent desserts. But the dinners themselves were a disappointment. The manager did comp us for a steak because my wife complained about hers, which was awesome. We didn't want to complain about all 4 meals. And although I would probably return because of the great atmosphere. When choosing to lick it or flick it, we had to flick it with this particular experience. read more

Finally getting around to writing a review. Visited the Maker cafe the last week of October 2021. Great vibe! We walked in were able to get a cute table in the front. I had a salad but what I can't get out of my memory and want to come back for is the Pistachio Croissant! Omg so delicious! My husband and I then walked around the main st/Warren street for a couple of hours. At the advise of the waiter or manager not sure _ he recommended we come back to the Lounge around the corner at 4pm when it opens. SOO glad we did! Perfect way to end our afternoon. Yet another great vibe! Very pretty room with private little spots to sit and have a cocktail. There is a beautiful full seat bar but we preferred the side table/sofa seating. The glass conservatory: beautiful. The servers: attentive and friendly. The drinks: delicious. But the food? Absolutely not worth it. Would love to come back if they change everything about their menu. The whipped ricotta was fine, but the summer squash was completely unsalted, mushy, and oddly sour. The tagliatelle was normal pasta, and the duck frites was tasty but could use some vegetables, but the pressed chicken with hakurei turnips was bland on bland. And the buttermilk panna cotta was weird, but that's on us for choosing buttermilk. And despite being such nice servers, they were weirdly stingy with bread. It's bread! Well, it was a magnificent fall day, yesterday, and I decided to take a drive to Hudson, one of my favorite towns, although I haven't been there in five years. It has gotten bigger and better. Arrived in Hudson at around 12:30, parked the car and set out looking for a great lunch spot. I did ask a lovely lady and she suggested the Maker for lunch. Arrived at the restaurant, and there were a couple of people seated at small tables outside the restaurant. Since it was a gorgeous day, I understand. went inside and inquired about getting a table. It would be a few minutes, and I wanted to look around the Maker hotel. I received a text that my table was ready. A beautiful table inside next to the sunny outside. Now the wonderful food experience commences. August, my waitress stopped by with a menu, which I perused for some libation. I chose a lovely rose from France. I ordered a salad with fall veggies with chicken. The wine was as smooth as silk, just hit the spot along with a couple of ice cubes. The salad didn't disappoint either. Just so enjoying this unbelievable day and luxuriating, in the sun. Had another glass of wine enjoying lunch. Thought that since other people may want my table I asked for coffee in a coup, along with a blueberry dessert. I left very happy and vowed to return again soon. A huge shoutout to Karen, August, y wonderful server, and Sal the manager, who I had told how great August was as my server. The atmosphere is something out of a John Hughs Christmas movie; fireplace and bookshelves included. Have a drink at the Maker bar before dinner. If you happen to catch Juan Carlos as your bartender, prepare for an amazing night. His skill to make everything on and off the menu is the perfect way to enjoy the bevy of your night. Make note of the decor which include a mirror from the 1600s! When you're ready for dinner, the hardest decision you may be faced with is running in the Rose room or the Observatory. I really want to give the food 5 stars and the service zero. When you walk into the maker you instantly feel warm and cozy. Aesthetically they have the upstate vibe on lock! Two friends got the mushroom dumpling broth spilled all over them. And the main waitress (who we've dubbed Amber Heard) because that's who she looks like snatched the receipt out of my hand because I asked her to wait for our credit cards before she gets lost for another 30 minutes. I thought this experience was unique to us until a friend saw my posts about it and said she loved the food but the staff was quite rude on a separate occasion. So please beware- know the food will be great but because gratuity is already included, they are not working at all to please you. Oh one last mention: we wanted someone to take a group photo of us to capture the moment and the maitre d couldn't do it because someone was giving him a tarot card reading! You cannot make this up. Where do I start? The meal from start to finish was one taste sensation to the next. The atmosphere dreamy. We loved the asparagus with burrata, the crab and rhubarb salad, and radishes were incredible. Complemented by really perfect butter, the bread was amazing. I could've eaten much more. The main course: we tried the savory flavorful pork and delicate trout, both wonderfully tasty. We adored the potato gratin. And the cucumber soup is extraordinary. For dessert: please treat yourself to the smooth and heavenly butterscotch pudding. The wine selection was also wonderful. The rosé we imbibed the first night was fantastic and with our dinner we had a wonderful Sancerre. Equally flavorful. The service was really perfect. Sometimes New Yorkers get impatient when we're out of town but it was quick. They weren't on top of us. It just seemed like every course arrived right when we were ready for it. We were invited to The Maker to celebrate my daughter's birthday. She visited this place several times before and spoke very highly of it. Despite the horrible weather we drove an hour to be together and experience this magical place.  We arrived at 5:30 for our 6:00 reservation, ahead of the rest of our group. At the entrance we were greeted cordially by a gentleman who walked us to the restaurant area. After confirming our reservation he suggested that we should sit at the table set in the library for our party and wait for everyone else. I asked if we could sit in the lounge or elsewhere to have a cocktail and relax after a lengthy drive, but my request seemed to be a problem. He said that lounge is only for the hotel guests, and there is no other place.  We were standing awkwardly in the middle of the room when the rest of our party arrived, a total of 7 people. He placed us immediately at the table in the library ( which wasn't the table that was reserved) and told us that we had to finish by 8:00pm because the table was reserved for another seating. This was extremely rude, unwelcome and unprofessional! The beauty of The Maker was completepy overshadowed by his attitude - he ruined the atmosphere and my daughter's birthday.  The service was nice and polite, (food was good, though nothing extraordinary) but we felt rushed and couldn't enjoy our time.  At 7:45 we paid and went for after dinner drink to the bar and later, on our way out, we noticed 4 people sitting by our former table for 8! Why couldn't the restaurant accommodate 4 people at the smaller table in the main room? Why wasn't anyone else rushed and inconvenienced? I read many unfavorable reviews about this place and noticed that mostly 5 star reviews receive a response from hotel management, so I am not expecting any explanation. The sad part is that such a beautiful and unique place is tainted by unprofessional, rude and incompetent staff. We had plans to visit and enjoy this gem in the future but the way we were treated totally changed our mind! read more
