Came here for brunch on a Saturday, and I was blown away by the food. I candidly did not expect this to be my favorite meal in Hudson, notably as we had many incredible meals. We had eaten breakfast about an hour prior, so I wasn't feeling hungry at all... but that quickly changed upon first bite of my meal. I ordered the Savory Porridge, which came with a soft boiled egg, oyster mushrooms, chili crisp sauce (resembles Chinese Lao Gan Ma), and was topped with crispy rice noodles. This. Was. Incredible. I can't stress enough how perfectly the flavors, textures, and ingredients came together. You'll understand what I mean upon first bite. I also had bites of the Grapefruit Brûlée and Biscuit. Both were such a delight. The biscuit was shockingly incredible... on par with high tea in London. The ambiance was festive (came the weekend after Christmas), cozy, and charming. What a lovely meal! We chose this restaurant as one of our anniversary dinners on our trip to Hudson. We were offered a complimentary champagne toast to celebrate, which was just so sweet! The decor/ambiance is so lovely and they gave us a sweet little corner table. Our server said she had a really nice table for us to celebrate. The cocktails we enjoyed were fantastic. I ordered the Double Happiness, with mezcal and an amaro which was so fab. My husband ordered the Leaving Manhattan which was really nice- rye, brandy, vermouth, fernet and l'orgeat We started with two appetizers- the mackerel crudo and the grilled squid. Both had a little kick! I loved the crudo with the tiny husk cherries and the cucumber, and the Calabrian chili granita was a nice touch. The squid dish was more my husband's style than mine. I LOVE grilled squid and I love pork belly, but this dish felt really heavy and it was just a tad too spicy for me. The squid was over an xo crema, which is apparently made with dried pork belly. It was also served with corn. The squid was nice but the crema was just heavy. My husband loved it. I ordered the chestnut sorprese for my appetizer- like little tortellini ("sorprese" means "surprise" in Italian) with a wild boar ragu, broccoli rave, and fresh ricotta. It was very tasty, albeit maybe TOO aldente. I'm Italian and love aldente pasta but it was just a little too hard/undercooked. Flavors were spot on though. My husband ordered the duck, which was served with pears, chanterelles, and an olive honey. A really really nice dish and the duck was cooked perfectly. I'm not usually a sweets person but I'm so glad we decided to do dessert: miso ice cream with coffee grounds and amaretti (maybe like a crushed biscotti?). It was SO SO SO good. Perhaps one of my favorite desserts I've ever had. I love when a dessert has more complex flavors and a crunch instead of just sweet and mushy lol. The wine and amaro list is very nice- my husband ordered a nice cab sav and we shared a great faccia bruto amaro with dessert. Thank you for a lovely anniversary dinner! read more

I'm embarrassed to say the tavern name almost made me skip this gem. Tavern conjured up images of smoke stained walls and sticky floors. But boy oh boy, I'm so glad I trusted my trusty Yelp app and the other reviewers. I'd always heard the food in Hudson was legendary and Rivertown did not disappoint. I was so impressed by the complexity of the flavors brought together. The duck breast was perfectly cooked and paired with cherry mostrada (which I learned is a mustard seed based sauce). The potency of the mustard perfectly balanced with the sweetness of the cherry and the duck. Then there was Yuzu Kosho (also had to look this up) jus. A perfect dish. I also cheated and allowed myself to experience the rustic bread with cultured cream. YUMMY! Will be back and recommend to my friends. read more

Just popped in on a whim...did not even know there was a restaurant at this place, but the outdoor seating was very very appealing and caught my eye as I walked by, so I decided to give it a whirl. MOST EXCELLENT service. Clearly the staff is well-versed and enthusiastic about what they are serving. Bravo! I had the duck breast for my dinner and everything about it was delicious! Also, thoughtfully, I was cautioned, in advance, that it would take 30 minutes to prepare. Never even felt like a wait on such a lovely evening! I can't tell you how grateful I am for Chris one of the managers of the Rivertown Lodge. I was here for a funeral and had a reservation at another hotel who neglected to tell me that they closed at 9:30 and no one would be there. I drove all around the town, not knowing Hudson very well and lo and behold. Riverside was open And so friendly. He gave me some snacks for my room and a beverage and also gave me his phone number if I got frightened in the night because I felt like I was one of the only people in the whole hotel and I can be a little scared, but it was so peaceful. The decor is so simple and beautiful, and I can't tell you how nice and truly hospitable the people were when I arrived at 10:30 PM completely frazzled. Thank you. We all left satiated but a bit perplexed. The food was amazing but the menu left us questioning our existence. You see, they have what appears to be a non-functioning paperclip at the top of the menu. At first blush, you might think "why does the menu need a working paper clip"? Well, it impeded my ability to thoroughly read all of the items on each page. The length of the clip protrudes past the title page... thus impeding the readability of the offerings. Now that doesn't seem like a big deal, but if you extrapolate my issue across all guests this challenge can potentially cause minutes of annual harm! Those minutes may not seem like much... but if you're on your death bed you will cherish the minutes that could be returned to you by an accessible and easy to use paperclip. 10/10. Came here for Saturday brunch and oh my gosh, the food here was 10/10 good. The focaccia egg sandwich was probably the best egg sandwich I've ever had. Truly special. The Dutch baby and biscuit with fig jam were also incredible. A unique feel in here -- you're technically in the lobby of the hotel which is very cool and unlike anything I've ever experienced but in a good way. The hotel seems super inviting and warm and cozy. Extremely overpriced and the food is over-complicated yet still remains bland. We started with $9 dollar bread and butter, three pieces of yes very good warm bread and lovely butter and then downhill from there- An apple salad -basically cubed tart apple with a kohlrabi spicey pesto- not great and a well prepared piece of fish over tasteless fava beans- all in all an $80 waste except for the bread. The place is cute and chic maybe good for a cocktail-( and some bread?) Service was consistent but at an intentionally slow pace, which was ok. read more

When we raised it to the server and manager, no one seemed to mind nor care (they didn't even offer to compensate us for the salad). We were able to get a last minute reservation for 2 to sit in the outdoor heated patio. We were seated promptly and the host turned on the heat lamps and offered us blankets. Throughout the meal, the staff continued to check in to ensure we were warm enough, which we greatly appreciated. The mood felt very romantic and cozy. We ordered a glass of cava and the "Once More With Feeling" cocktail. The latter was very tasty and contained local pear. We ordered the cardamom almonds and sourdough bread as appetizers. I would highly recommend the bread, as it came with tasty uncured butter and local bee honey. For entrees, we ordered the scallops and the special of the night, which was a smoked pork and ricotta-filled ravioli in a cheese based brodo. My partner really enjoyed the scallops, which came with local vegetables and a special sauce. The ravioli in brodo was perfect for a winter night dinner and we were able to soak up all the tasty brodo with the leftover sourdough. This would be a fun place to bring a group of friends or for a romantic dinner. I made reservations for 2 on Easter evening. The hotel was renovated and the lobby had such a nice ambiance and spacious. We ordered the sourdough bread and butter. They gave us 4 thick (over 1" thick) toasted and crusty. Butter was dusted with seasoning which adds to the toast's enjoyment. We started with the GaiLan broccoli and Grilled cabbage with Bartagga. The sauce with the cabbage was delicious and was good with the crusty toast. We ordered the Scallop and pasta special Agnolotti( butternut squash). Scallops were seared beautifully and perfect doneness. We ate the broccoli and cabbage before I remembered to take pictures. So I have after pictures and will come back to take the before pictures next time (lol). We did take pictures of the entrees. The Rivertown Lodge Tavern is located inside and beside the Rivertown Lodge. We dined at the tavern in their outdoor dining area. They had a few craft beer cans including a Pilsner from Threes' Brewery which I opted for. They also had some wines and some specialty drinks including a Negroni slushee that day. For food, we started off with a beet & strawberry salad and ricotta with pesto and radishes. Both were delicious but the star of the dinner was the main entree. For our main course, we shared pork ribs. These ribs were incredible. These were some of the best ribs I've had. They were so good that I had a second order. The ribs were tender and fell right off the bone. They had a crispy char on them and were topped with a wildly flavorful sauce which was spicy, savory, and tangy. I highly recommend the ribs! We also had some of the crispy chickpeas which were good too. read more

The sugar snap peas with strawberries and foie gras was to die for and scallops were perfectly clean and cooked to perfection. Same could be said for the bass. Only complaint was charged $9 for three slices of slightly burned sourdough bread with butter which seemed overkill. Should have been half that. 10/10, this is a place worth driving to if you like good food. I'm not going to lie, I had to Google a few of the ingredients on the menu, but absolutely everything that came to the table was exceptional. The cocktails were excellent, with a wide range of options for any taste. The menu is small, I assume due to the freshness of the ingredients, but there is no detail which they have not paid attention to. Nice people. Ate inside which smells of mildew and is literally the lobby with a rec room aesthetic. Seated in very uncomfortable folding wooden chairs. Simple breakfast of chicken hash took over 30 minutes from ordering. Food well prepared and menu is like the Yaffa Cafe in the late 90s. But service is inattentive. No refill -- servers disappear and do not offer more water or coffee. Messed up biscuit order and comped it. Thank you. Biscuit is spent wheat and not tender or buttery. Not as good as we hoped. Amazingly creative and uber-delicious dishes. Smoked tomato salad was perfection in August with white anchovies. Perfectly cooked fish. And a vegetarian main for the non-meat-eaters. Professional service and comfortable inside, but small seating area indoors for dinner in back of and on the side of the bar -- odd. The Stars aligned to lead us to the Rivertown Lodge Tavern for dinner tonight (covered outdoor seating on a chilly fall evening threatening rain) - and so glad we landed here! The food was great and service very attentive and friendly. We shared the house made ricotta small plate - not so small and absolutely delicious! The pasta with Sea beans was also a taste buds' delight. The 2011 Bordeaux and local Pilsner beer paired nicely. Small, yet varied, menu. Our expectations weren't that high in a town known more for antiques than cuisine. We were so pleasantly surprised with the Rivertown Lodge Tavern. The started endive salad with pecorino was a wonderful prelim dish. The rye tagliatelle cacio e pepe was beautiful, as was the wild striped bass, cooked perfectly with crispy skin and oh-so-moist fish. The chocolate mousse was thankfully not sweet and accented nicely with espelette pepper. The only issue was the slow service, but, how can you really complain when the food is so darn good? read more
