    Small kale Asian salad

Asian inspired dishes, nice selection of drinks. Large outdoor shaded patio. Perfect day to be outside. I wanted a snack and got their small Asian kale salad and a Nine Pin Bellini cider. Perfect pairing. Salad is spicy, peach Bellini cider is sweet. Very nice people working here. Shout out to Zach.

Great spot to grab a quick brew! Good for outdoor seating and large groups! Easy to walk in and grab a drink.

This place has an awesome set up and vibe. The girl working the register was incredibly sweet and attentive. We had to wait almost an hour for our food and it was not a busy night. But once it did come out it was great. I loved the Dan Dan noodles, such good flavor. The crab Rangoons were top notch. The girl working the register apologized a few times for our wait but it was honestly not a problem. We sipped our beer and checked out all the decor details of this place. Beautiful lamps everywhere. I'd definitely return but again on a slow night. With all their sitting you can definitely tell they get busy. Only complaint is the side of kimchi is $8 and it is in a to go sauce container. That was disappointing, it was so good I wanted more!

We came here on a rainy night, so outdoor seating wasn't an option, but that area looks like it'd be a fun option when the weather is nice. We sat inside, in the back area and it wasn't very crowded at all. You have to order up at the counter, then they let you know when it is ready. There is a spot for napkins, extra condiments, etc., and a place to put your trash/dirty dishes when you're finished. We ordered: steamed edamame dumplings, cumin tater tots, crispy hot honey chicken sandwich, soba noodle salad. Everything was quite good and we had a nice time!

We stopped at Backbar for lunch during a day trip to Hudson. It seemed like a promising start to our day with a great outdoor area, Malaysian bites and veggie options, but was a supremely disappointing experience. I ordered the Summer Miso Noodles that were supposed to include mushrooms, kale, broccoli rabe, and presumably, miso. What I received included no broccoli rabe or any discernable miso. They tasted like buttery noodles, and there was nothing Malaysian about them. We also ordered the cumin tots to share, which were fine, but nothing special. The tots come in a huge order, so plan/order accordingly. Sadly, my hubby's non-veg options were equally meh, so we can only assume this is a decent spot for outdoor drinks when the weather is nice, but NOT for food. It was such a disappointing experience, it cast a pall over the rest of the day in the way only truly terrible food can. Learn from our experience and choose one of the many other dining options in Hudson instead!

When walking around downtown Hudson we ran into this cute little spot. My first impression was I loved the vibe and thought the set up was super cute. We were hungry for a bite to eat and ordered the wings (VERY SPICY!), and the potstickers. Both were tasty, however a little overpriced in my opinion. Not sure what kind of food they're aiming to serve. I asked our waitress, and her answer was a little complicated. LOL. Something about Southeast Asian and southern fusion. My only real issue with this place is they charge a 20% "livable wage fee" to help pay the staff. As much as I want the staff to make a livable wage, I don't think it should be the customers responsibility to pay the staff anything aside from the tip. Yes, they want you to tip on top of their 20% fee. So essentially you're tipping 40%. I think that's a bit ridiculous. I can imagine some people don't tip the servers because of that fact.

My boyfriend and I came here for a night cap after dinner, and we loved it. The ambiance and the decorations were so cool, and the vibes were overall great. Loved the outdoor area as well! We did not eat here, just drinks. The bartender was attentive.

Bangkok Cooler at Backbar in Hudson NY

Our initial plan was just to stop here for a bathroom break but it had such a cool vibe that we decided to stick around for a drink. Oh, I really wanted the Dan Dan Noodles but we had to be somewhere else at a specific time and couldn't wait. Dang! Instead, a round of drinks in this neat bar that is literally a converted service station right down to the open garage doors. I had a nice "hot weather" drink, a Bangkok Cooler that had gin, Thai basil and lime juice in it. Nice and cold and refreshing! Super friendly, neat and eclectic, just a great spot that needs a revisit when we have more time. [Review 11498 overall, 1278 of 2019.]

We came here because they had outdoor seating. There was food on the plate before we even received the food!!! It was disgusting. We thought maybe they missed that plate so we let it go. We received our food afterwards. The burger was so mediocre that we were wondering why it cost $17?? It only had a beef patty, cheese and some radishes. That was all!! The video says it all. We received the chicken karage which was half cooked and dry as hell. The Bao buns smelled funky so we didn't even eat those. The Dan Dan noodles was the only item that was edible. Please don't come here!!! We ended up spending money here and regretted every moment of it.

I didn't stay at the hotel because it is pretty pricey, but I visited their Lounge after getting dinner in town. Didn't have a reservation so getting into the restaurant bar was impossible but they told us we could walk around the corner to their lounge. Upon entering the lounge, we were greeted immediately and told that there was no available seating due to full reservations yet half the bar and a few of the lounge tables were empty. The guy said he would take our names and that it could be up to an hour wait so we did that and stood there. After nearly 45 minutes and those empty bar seats + lounge yankee still not being filled, he offered us a half of a couch next to another couple. We would've sat next to them sooner if only he let us! Aside from that, service was fast and drinks were good. The menu included signature cocktails that paired with the Maker's signature fragrances. I tried the Rebel which was pretty good. We ordered some bites -- the beef tartare with onion rings and a side of fries. I love a beef tartare which is so rare to find as many places offer Tuna. It really hit the spot. Moral of the story: Make a reservation!

Picture super high ceilings and a dark but cozy space. I also loved my drink (the Dream cocktail) which was a perfect drink for autumn. My friend got the Naked cocktail which I personally didn't like (I'm not a fan of gin), but wow was the presentation of the cocktail incredible. Our server was friendly as well and gave us some nice suggestions for the drinks. We also walked through the hotel to its main entrance so that was nice seeing the way it was decorated.

The food menu is definitely limited, better for snacks than a meal. We got the esquites and it was ok, though a fairly small portion and the corn was either overcooked or canned. Either way, a shame at the height of local corn season. The cocktail menu seemed to highlight edgy and unconventional flavor pairings, which is generally my favorite kind of cocktail but both times the ones available were a bridge too far for my tastes. The wine list seems great, but each time I've asked questions the server or bartender has said they haven't tried it and had to go get the owner/manager. I've ordered local beer (none on tap, sadly, but some good local cans) and martinis, some of which are served in little swing top bottles on ice. When the bill came, I was shocked that our standard martinis cost $17 each, which was inexplicably more expensive than the fancy cocktails on the high proof menu (which all ranged from $14-16).

The second time it was oddly empty, but I generally have few complaints. The cocktails are delicious and original, and the list of tinned fish is unusual and vast. Sure, the food menu might not be for everyone (the few other reviews mention that the food is strange and/or unapproachable), but if you put aside your reservations what's offered really is quite good. I hope Padrona picks up in the coming months/years, because it's got great energy and has lots of potential. Most recently, we came here around around 8:30 on a Thursday night. As I mentioned, it was pretty empty. A few parties inside, a few outside. Not sure if it was just a down night or if people haven't discovered yet, but no matter. The place certain has potential for great vibes: good music, beautiful decor, nice feng shui. We ended up sitting at the bar just to get a front row seat to the action, which is always fun. I would say Padrona is much more of a drinks destination than a food destination, but we wanted to get a sense of the full menu so we ordered both, Drinks-wise, we like just about everything we tried. I started with the Haus Martini (olive oil washed gin, cocchi americano, salers, pickled tomato), which was such a smooth and elegant martini variation. I then tried the Pretty Hot Thing (mezcal, ancho reyes, yellow bell pepper, serrano pepper, honey), which had all the right components of a good mezcal drink - spice, smokiness, and vegetals notes. I finished with the most nightcap-worthy drink on the menu, the Smoke Gets in Your Eye (scotch, amaro china china, porter syrup) which was smoky, rich, and just delicious. My partner tried the OG Slush (mezcal, thai chili infused aperol, smoked agave, lime, sumac) and the French Gold (cognac, ginger liqueur, oro blanco grapefruit, honey, preserved grapefruit), and he preferred the flavor profile of the French Gold. The food here is fun and unique. I wouldn't recommend making a dinner out of it as we did (more on that in a moment), but I don't regret our approach. We ended up getting the English Pea and Mint Hummus, the Charcuterie and Cheese Board, the Nuri Spiced Mackerel, and the Razor Clams. I would say our favorites were the hummus and clams, but everything was solid. What I did not expect was the sheer amount of bread/crostini we received for dipping. Nothing could have prepared us for that! We ended up taking the leftovers home but in retrospect perhaps we could have ordered one fewer thing.

By day, you know it as the Mercantile, the small coffee shop/bakery attached to Wm. Farmer and Sons. Though small in size and in what it offers, Willy's is a formidable venue. The cocktail program was created by the guy who created that of Wm. Farmer and Sons, which is probably the best of its kind in Hudson. As you'd guess, all drinks are rum-based (feel free to order from the adjacent bar if you're not feeling rum but in my opinion, only pop in here if you're looking for some funky rum cocktails). I'm not typically into rum, but I can be swayed if a drink is good enough. Such was the case here, and it didn't surprise me. Come here for a pre-dinner cocktail or a nightcap and learn a bit about a spirit you might've not thought much about prior to visiting. Welcome to the scene! Came here with my bf on a Friday night. We were getting dinner at Wm. Farmer and Sons but arrived a bit early for our reservation. Our gracious host recommend that we hang by the bar, OR, try out Willy's, just through the entryway. We apparently visited on its opening night, and I hope it enjoys a good life here. The hostess informed us that the cocktail menu there was different than that at Wm. Farmer and Sons--all rum-based--but if we weren't feeling rum, the bartender could still whip anything up from the restaurant's main menu. As I mentioned, the space itself is teeny tiny. Standing room only--more of a place to stop in as opposed to posting up and staying awhile. Just like its parent restaurant, the vibe in here is cozy and welcoming. Let's get to the important stuff: drinks. Everything at Willy's is rum-based. Even if you're not a rum lover, don't just assume you'll prefer the cocktail menu at Wm. Farmer and Sons better. I usually go for whiskey or gin, but I was thrilled with what I tried here. That said, if you come here and for some odd reason decide that you want to stay in this space but order from the other bar, you can indeed do that. I just don't suggest it, because what's the point? Between me and my bf, we tried the Mai Tai (Jamaican Rum, Bajan Rum, Rhum Agricole, Fresh lime juice, Curacao, Orgeat, Overproof Rum float) and the Fish House Punch (Jamaican Rum, Cognac, Peach Liquer, fresh lemon juice, soda water). Both fun tropical drinks, nice for the beginning of spring. Expertly crafted and impeccably balanced. I suppose I preferred the Fish House Punch slightly, but they were both fantastic. I thought the peach/cognac pairing was quite nice, rich but still refreshing. They also offer a Daiquiri and an Old Fashioned here, with your rum of choice. I'd probably recommend exploring that route if you want to explore different rums and understand a bit more about what each type brings to the table. I know lots about gin and whiskey and don't care to know too much more about rum (plus I don't like rum-based, spirit-forward drinks so the old fashioned would be a no-go) so it wasn't for me. That said, the bartender here is as knowledgable as they come and I somewhat regret not asking him about his selection to learn a bit more. They've got some fun stuff here that's worth looking into. Cheers!
