Coffee: really good, but our chai latte was ice cold Pastries: amazing and fair price Food: good but small portions and expensive, we only got a breakfast sandwich tho. Service: incredibly long wait (for just coffee and a pastry). Our server was miserable and had an attitude with us the second we sat down. When asked what the seasonal latte was she rolled her eyes, shrugged and said " I don't know." We all sat there in awkward silence dumbfounded because she didn't say "let me go check" or anything and we didn't even know how to react to that? Finally another staff member came up and she did shout across and ask about the latte. It was bizarre and her poor attitude really put a damper on our nice morning. Maybe she had a bad day or personal problems and it was a one time thing but between that and the long wait and price, I would just go to one of the many other coffee shops on the street instead next time. I was here with a party of 7 for brunch. We got a private room! unexpected! It was beautiful. The staff was incredible. Very attentive and perfect timing on everything. The brunch food was amazing. Everyone enjoyed and completely finished what they ordered. I had the most expensive offering, the trout with side salad and potatoes. $28 Fabulous. All other offerings were less than $20. It was very reasonable. And we all got cocktails that were delicious. The building and décor are beautiful. I hope this place stays a very very long time. 1. Food: very good. we have been here for dinner twice. I have had the steak tartare for entree both times (Mom is Parisian) and wife had the chicken schnitzel (currently off menu) and pressed chicken. the schnitzel was more inventive than pressed chicken, and the steak tartare was more inventive than standard fare. I like inventive preparation because why go with easy?...and the menu did not shy away from pushing the envelope and being very seasonal. chef is no slouch! 2. ambiance. very good inside, better on fountain terrace if you dont score a rez in dining rooms, you can be served same food in cafe, which is where we were first time, and it was just fine. but better yet, there is a terrace with fountain between dining room and lounge. if you like to eat outside on a nice summer eve, this cant be beat. but it seems you have to ask for it. no eating outside on the street makeshift area required here...for us, this was important. 3. service. very good, but perhaps understaffed I get the sense that there is under-staffing, but the folks working there do their best to serve you with a smile. note to GM: hire more staff if you can, but the folks got are doing very well. 4. where is the meh? the meh is in the decor for me. do you need a gym that looks straight out of 1966? I am old enough to know that gym, and I am fit enough to work out in a 2021 gym...why would anyone want to set up a 1966 gym in 2021? this same thought goes to dining decor...very clubby and poor man's Ralph Lauren-y. why? many people would like this decor, I just found its un peut trop. read more

Incredible from start to finish. Worth every penny. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this restaurant, based on it only having 4* when we were looking on Yelp. I had relatively high expectations for ambiance (which were far exceeded) and mediocre expectations for food (which would have exceeded high expectations). Service: Great. Everyone from the hostess to the waiter were incredibly friendly and attentive. They surprised us with complimentary dessert wine because they heard we were celebrating an anniversary. Ambiance: One of the most beautiful spaces I've ever seen. Truly every detail was outstanding. You'll wish you could experience every room. We opted to follow up dinner in the lounge- wow! Don't miss this space. Food: Every single item we ordered blew our minds. We actually felt awkward by how much we raved on the food. Highly recommend the mushroom soup, beet/burrata appetizer and duck frites. 12/10. My husband and I both agreed it was one of the best meals we've had in a long time. Dessert was incredible as well. Ambiance is great. Very cozy and warm. Food was pretty good as well. We got the baby kale, tuna tartare, and the chilled crab. Loved the salad and the tuna tartare. For our entrees, got the steaks and the tagliatelle. They were both good but not the best that we have had. The cocktails were amazing and highlight of the meal. read more

After reading the reviews, we got the distinct impression that this place tends to be rather pretentious and falls well short of what one would hope to expect in an elegant setting. We had a great meal at The Maker restaurant last weekend, beautiful food (the trout, asparagus and cucumber soup!!!! Yum!) loveliest ambience of the room and the garden right outside. Five stars for the friendly hostess, excellent service, decor and delicious craft cocktails. However, then the deductions begin with an attempt to seat me in a sad little room off the main dining room. Happily, we were given an alternative when we asked. Sure it only had sightlines into the lovely glass-enclosed room, but it was better than the claustrophobic room where one felt punished. More deductions for a lackluster menu with an uninspired offering of steak,, chicken, duck and fish. None are offered with any of the culinary flourishes found in most other Hudson restaurants. No inventive flavor pairings or preparations here. I wasn't expecting Jean Georges, but at least a menu that competes with other local restaurants in this tier. Then more deductions. The frugal half-slice of ordinary looking bread and skimpy dish of butter was mentioned by other reviewers. I had anticipated those comments had been taken to heart. Instead, my thought was, "Really? That's the tone you want to set?" Baffling. Next, a series of competently prepared dishes arrived, monochromatic in their drab presentation as their menu descriptions had intimated, but nonetheless tasty in a "meh" kind of way. In the end, would I come to The Maker again? It's pricey but not ridiculous. So, yes, I might come again, with the caveat that I be seated in the main room with a lively group of friends that would distract me from the menu and presentation. One final note: The response to The Maker's many reviews, is that they appreciate the feedback and will share it with management, but it rings disingenuous. It's obvious that earlier comments did nothing to change those things that were mentioned. So just don't promise what you have no intention of delivering. Just . . . don't. read more

I usually have more to criticize, I was completely impressed with the food, drink, service and ambiance at The Maker. Everything we ate was memorable. I kind of feel bad that I got my non-red meat eating sister to try and love the steak tartare - great mince size, seasoning and awesome with potato chips. The cucumber soup with scallop chorizo was refreshing with nuanced, balanced spices, just a unique combination of nourishing, nutritive and flavorful. The burrata asparagus with the savory granola sounds strange, but that crunch made for a great textural complement to the burrata. Tagliatelle noodles were prepared just right, and why aren't egg yolks more often treated like the perfect sauce they are? We loved the rose and all the cocktails were perfectly prepared. We sat outside near the fountain - it felt like we were in a piazza in Europe or elsewhere. I would have been just as happy inside in either the greenhouse room or private and tucked away room that looked darker and sultry. I'll be back to test it out. read more

Really sad to have to leave this review. But on Christmas we had made plans to take out a meal here for dinner. We called earlier in the day to confirm this would indeed be possible, and we were told yes we of course order take out anytime before 10 pm! Great, We were staying in a hotel because our power was out. Then come Christmas night we call to put in our order, and were told sorry we are no longer doing take out because we don't think the quality would be up to our standards... very interesting. I happen to disagree that it's better to leave people starving, without food on Christmas night (as there is literally nothing else open in Hudson). Thanks. read more

We've been coming to the maker since they first opened - over 2 years ago. The food is very tasty, with great service and beautiful ambience. Unfortunately as of recently, it feels like the menu has definitely changed for the worst. Smaller selection, way more expensive, about 1/4 of the portion we used to receive. I came here for a bachelorette party and we were treated extremely poorly by the server and the manager. Our server was very rude after we decided we were just getting cocktails and maybe some appetizers. He proceeded to roll his eyes and then was talking about our table right in front of us to the other workers. We were planning to stay for a few rounds of drinks but decided to leave after we were rudely treated. We asked to speak with the manager and she seemed like she didn't really care about our experience and said it was due to lack of communication because he should have sent us to the lounge for a cocktails (we would have gladly moved if asked). Regardless, that doesn't make up for how we were treated. We weren't asked how our appetizer was or our drink. Everyone in our party were bartenders and servers and we couldn't get over this experience. Some of the people in our party didn't even like the cocktails and we paid over 100$ for a horrible experience. read more

1 star for evil behavior. We spent Christmas at a hotel in Hudson because our town had been flooded. The Maker told our hotel they were offering carry-out on Christmas Day. We called the Maker to confirm and they said yes, carry-out would be available until 10PM on Christmas Day. We called at 8PM and they REFUSED TO FULFILL THE ORDER AS PROMISED, offering some ridiculous excuse about how it wouldn't be "up to standards." They did this even after we explained that our power was out and every other restaurant in town including fast food was closed, leaving us with no way to eat on Christmas. Too bad, they said. We had to drive around for an hour on icy flooded roads late at night to find a gas station mini mart that was open so we could get cup o'noodles. Definitely the worst Christmas ever thanks to the Maker's callous and inexcusable behavior. This restaurant needs to honor its commitments to its customers. read more

What a disappointment. If ever appearances did not align with substance. This place is gorgeous, lovely, attentively designed. The food however is a disaster. Even the simple start of bread was unfortunate as it is served with a funky seaweed spread followed by soupy, mushy 'dumplings.' The main course took about 30 minutes to arrive and it was anything but worth the wait. The first ingredient was mushroom and yet there were no mushrooms in sight. I was literally served slop. The service was disorganized (we had to wait 20 minutes after our reservation time for a table; our waiter possibly forgot our drinks until we reminded him about them after appetizers). This regards a distasteful experience in the cafe part of the restaurant which claims to serve lunch till 4 pm on its website. We arrived at 3.30, told to wait for a table to be cleaned and soon thereafter had our lunch menus taken by a server who said that lunch was over! Hello?!? I spoke to the disinterested manager and asked why the website said 4 pm for lunch? She shrugged and said, "The kitchen closes at 3.45" There was no, "I am sorry" from her. Made a reservation for my fiancé's birthday dinner. 10/16/2020 for 8:30 pm EST. I made this reservation at 6:09 pm EST. When making this reservation it showed which times were open, and which times were occupied. Then after receiving a confirmation email about the reservation I received another email later in the evening that it was denied. I tried to call too see if it was in error. I could not connect with anyone but the hostess in the hotel. She proceeded to lie about how the times were listed when reserving. At that time I emailed in and got a response later saying they simply did not have the room. This ruined my fiancé's birthday dinner and left a bad taste in my mouth. We are locals so we would have been the customer to come as if it were traditional. We have been to both the cafe and the lounge many times. Now I am unsure we will ever return. read more

We've eaten at the Maker before and really enjoyed it so we were looking forward to a Christmas Day dinner here. The atmosphere, drinks and service are stellar; every detail has been considered and it shows. But, we were really disappointed by the food. In particular, the vegetarian entree which was described as a seasonal medley of local vegetables in a broth was a meager mix of nothing special in a bland broth. Literally two small cauliflower florets and a few other small bits that we sent back. Two of us got the rib eye which was also disappointing. No char; not particularly well prepared and not a great piece of meat. With so many amazing local purveyors nearby, including Applestone butchers right in town (we often grill steaks from there and they're far superior), it's was surprising that it wasn't better. Not up to the high prices. I hope this isn't a restaurant that starts off promising then slips on standards as they cater to a constant turnover of out-of-towners.
