Great venue with lots of outdoor space and seating. Feels like a restaurant with a beer garden. We had a good meal here, roasted artichoke appetizer was a hit. Pork chop was good and the burger was tasty. Also had a tasty glass of Sangiovese. Outside they had a ping pong table and space for kids to play, as well as stage for bands to play live music, seems like a good lively spot. read more

The Catskills does not seem to lack in quirky and oddball joints, huh? (I'm not even talking about Woodstock - although the combo of The Mud Club and Early Terrible surely takes the cake as to what I'm hinting at.) Add to the list: The Pines. Where you can drop some serious coin on their special of head-on (my kids were not expecting that, lemme tell you!) trout served cafeteria style and eating on large rocks (small boulders?) if you weren't able to snag a picnic table. The locals know enough to bring a blanket to relax in the field while a country band is playing their hearts out about 10 yards away from the restaurant/lodge. (As for the live music... you wouldn't be able to find two cuter kids that were walking the grounds holding a metal tub asking for donations for the band on stage.) The food was really good (loved the spicy broccolini on top of the trout but it was overkill with all those creamed leeks underneath the fish, and the burger's English muffin bun wasn't sturdy enough). And they had a few interesting drinks and beers (the Mrs. was all sorts of giddy after just one can of their homemade margarita). (Having to bus our own table from start to finish - I can see where that might irk some when you see them 'suggest' a tip that ranges from 18% to 22% when you're doing most of the work... but when I'm on vacation and buzzed from their Dobble pilsner - it's all good.) Cost and logistics (thankfully we had a portable chair in the trunk of our car since we could only snag three chairs of varying sizes and a too-tiny table) aside... we're fans (that would come back in the future) even if things were a bit clunky. Somehow this seems to be the case for every Catskills joint we hit... ample parking and still it's not enough so I had to park on the main road, halfway into the brush. read more

Sure, it's the hippest place around. Great for being seen, instagram and cool points to tell your Brooklyn crew. Great for strolling outdoors during BBQ, or my favorite, the honky tonk nights. BUT, when I revisited, my "burger bowl?" was an overdone, dried out, leathery piece of meat on a few pieces of sad lettuce. Their BBQ was insanely expensive, and sold out of brisket & ribs 2 hours in. The 3rd (and last) time I went for BBQ, I couldn't believe I paid so much for so meh. The portions went down, the prices went up. The guy running the coffee thing is reverse snob sorta mean guy. The owner is kind, charming & I wish he would offer some affordable/cheaper options for the bar. Like a bowl of olives? Dip? Peanuts? Staff is always kind and attentive & old times Catskills decor is gorgeous! Baked goods are a sure hit and I hope they stay reasonably priced. read more

Really great atmosphere with some of the freshest, locally sourced ingredients. Service: Some of the very best, most attentive waitstaff in the Catskills. Ambiance: Wonderful eclectic decor and different seating areas make it perfect for a date or a gathering with the family. Food: This is the only are where I have gripes. While I appreciate the fresh locally sourced ingredients, many of the dishes fail to elevate those ingredients into something better than the sum of their parts. This is especially true in the summer when their dinner menu consists almost entirely on some variation of a salad. It's not that they are bad by any stretch of the imagination, its just that for ~$20-26 (with protein) you expect them to be better executed with more thought given to the overall cohesive of the dish. Cute homey place with a cozy vibe. A few different indoor spaces to eat in and a back yard with picnic tables. Full barroom. I ordered the chicken tostadas which I feel were pricey at $27 for two tostadas and no sides. That being said they were delicious and generously topped with refried beans tasty chicken and escabeche. They were filling but I guess I'm just not ready to accept $27 chicken entrees as a new normal. My wife had the cheeseburger which was also delicious with fresh homemade fries. We started with the shishito peppers which were spicy and salty. Good with a Brookie from West Kill or a margarita. I recommend this place but just know it's gonna cost ya. read more

Supercute restaurant with a chill vibe! We have visited a few restaurants in area previously and had no idea this one existed. My burger was exactly what I was craving and my bf ordered the trout chowder and vegan bowl. Chowder was delish !!!!! Vegan burger was dry and tasteless but salad with Vinaigrette was great. Looking forward to checking out this restaurant when the weather warms up and you're free to eat outside alongside the fire pit. The local beer was delicious also. read more

I think the best thing about this place was that they served one of the best biscuits I've ever had! They also had a great vibe inside the place. Also, it's a good thing I didn't look at Yelp that morning we went because it erroneously indicated that this place was closed on Sunday morning (they may have update their hours now since I did bring it up to them). But they are definitely open on Sunday mornings. I had the trout salad with a biscuit and it was perfect! My friends both got breakfast items but I actually can't remember what they got. All I know is that they were both very happy with what they ate. One piece of feedback I would have for them is with such delicious biscuits, they should totally make a gravy so they can offer biscuits and gravy! I would've loved to order that. Funny, the first thing I thought of before writing this was how nervous I was about getting back to our hotel in Athens b/c I had NO service/no GPS in this woodsy enclave. But it all turned out OK once we started driving away from one of the best nights we'd had in a long time. First of all: take the "no reservations" policy seriously. Get there early if it's suitable for you. It also means that once you grab a table, it's not yours for the night. Fair enough and true to hospitable form the staff will find a spot for you & take care of you (we ended up sharing a table with a super nice local couple, and we had so much to talk about before & after the music). We went there to see Don Byron (!!!) with an exceptional band. 5 feet in front of me and no phones, just people listening & absorbing, not phone filming. A nice change from the stadium concerts of the summer. Burger was excellent; yes, the waiter was correct in suggesting the double. Fries could have been more crunchy but that's a minor quibble. Good drinks & beer selection. Super charming spot, wonder what it's like in the Lodge? may have to come back to find out. read more

What a fantastic new addition to the Catskill area! I love everything about The Pines, it's a cozy beautiful restaurant by night, cafe by day and soon to be an Inn! All the ingredients are sourced locally and you can tell! The freshly baked pastries are scrumptious, the farm fresh egg seasonal omelette is delightful... the biscuits are out of this world and the Farro Salad was insanely good. Coffee was great too! The atmosphere and everyone involved in this establishment are friendly and inviting. I can't say enough about how much I love it here. Owner Jeremy lovingly renovated this circa 1800's building with his own barehands. You'll be able to stay the night one day soon in the Inn upstairs too! I can't wait to go back! read more

This place is absolutely amazing! The interior feels so cozy and welcoming! The people there are really nice and service is top notch! My friends and I were there for brunch and I ordered the Avocado toast with poached egg. The egg was made perfectly and you know they care about the food just from the way it is prepared. I recently was staying in an Airbnb within walking distance of The Pines. I had never been to the Catskills area before and figured it would be nice to sit outside with my boyfriend and our dog. As advertised on the website, it clearly states " Please note that dogs on leashes are VERY welcome to our outdoor space! ". Granted, it had rained during the day but my boyfriend and I were willing to sit outside anyways because we didn't want to leave our dog alone, but when my Bf went in and asked if we could sit outside, the gentleman inside said the outside patio is wet and they can not serve outside. My boyfriend then explained that our puppy (5months old) is also a service dog and we can sit inside as well, he stated "we prefer to not have the dog inside" . Let me remind you, the law states if you have a service dog, you can't deny us of that request, instead of denying us he just didn't prefer we dine with them. I was completely disgusted when my BF came out and told me what happened. If your website states that dogs are VERY welcome then you should stand by that. Instead of accommodating us and having a paying customer stay for business, he turned us down and we went somewhere else to have dinner. And to be honest, the place down the road had AMAZING food. read more

A nice option in the area if you don't want to drive to another town. It's extremely quaint inside and the service is polite. The food is pretty good, but I venture to say slightly overpriced. We stopped in for breakfast and ordered at the counter. For two people, we each had two scrambled eggs, bacon, biscuit, and coffee. The total was $34 before tip. A little steep, no? The restaurant is more like an old home than a business. It's several small rooms, so it's fun to find a nook or a crany to sit in. You can choose the entry way or the (former) porch, for example. I saw space for a band was set up and would have liked to come back and hang out for that. Recommend checking it out on a Friday or Saturday night for live music. read more

So The Pines finally opened in late August, after everyone was already operating most of the summer. They were the first ones to close in early March, way before the state order, and the last ones to open at the end of the summer. We were super excited that our favorite place down the road is finally open. Pines has an extensive outdoor space, was always my go to place to pop in for a cold brew along the ride back up 212 to Willow. We love Jeremy, and the Burnell Pines and the whole crew. They did a nice job expanding the already spacious backyard and taking over the whole lawn in the back with the BBQ and about 10 tables. We always enjoyed the quaint old inn atmosphere at the Pines, where we always could pop in at the minute's notice and have a delicious home cooked meal. Unfortunately, something happened post COVID, we had a horrible experience last week, and it's pretty clear that the crew doesn't care about the customer at all. Needless to say they don't have to stay open to stay in business, and this careless attitude totally shocked us throughout. The staff socializes for hours (not over exaggerating) with pretentious local patrons at the tables, while the customers are waiting for over 1.5 hours for their food. Plenty of crew around, but it's nearly impossible to flag a waiter. The menu post opening consists of almost entirely a single oversalted burger patty cooked several ways, on the bun and over a salad. They didn't put our order in, and when we inquired about it, they didn't acknowledge the mistake nor apologized, nor compensated us. The soup I ordered ran out by the time they cooked the rest of our order. I got a shrug from a waitress. It's pretty clear the owners cater to a few bohemian local friends and use the place as the backyard to hang out with the extended friends circle. We've been locals since 2013 just up the road, but not cool enough for this place to be served with courtesy. Avoid at all cost and take a drive to Kinsley or Peekamoose instead. read more

Smoked trout salad had bones in it- and I do know that fish have bones - but I don't like to worry about them in my salad. Dressing had way too much vinegar. Available cider was too tart for me. I am flabbergasted that the reviews so far give this place 5 stars. Kinda makes me wonder about the source of the reviews. This is the poorest excuse for a restaurant we have ever seen. I don't even know where to start describing how bad it is. That one star up there is supposed to be a zero. We waited almost an hour for our meals to be served. The brisket was about 70% fat and even the serving size with the fat was very skimpy. The crostini was done on soda bisquits instead of bread and served lukewarm. Had no texture at all. I ordered the Sausage Tart to be served at the same time as the crostini and it finally came when everyone else had finished their entire meals. The menu stated that the Sausage tart had only sausage, bechemal, and carmelized onions on it. When it was served it also had some sort of a terrible bitter green stuff scattered all over it. They serve the tap water in wine bottles and we polished off all 4 of them quickly. The waitress took them to refill them and didn't bring them back until our meal was finished. Needless to say, we all left hungry. An hour later, I'm home eating a ham sandwich. The two men who seemed to be in charge were well aware of our displeasure and had no interest in apologizing, listening to our concerns or even talking to us. When we left, they had conspicuously disappeared. Apparently they really don't give a shit about their patrons. Really like this place. It's pretty homey, if your home has dark paneling and an old organ in the corner. Food was good - a little pricey for the environs, but I think they are catering to the Brooklynites who need a place to eat once the Diner is closed. Delicata squash with pear butter was inspired and tasty. Kale salad also good, but salt and pepper would have added depth to the dressing - I didn't see any on the other tables and our waitress didn't make another appearance until our main dishes were served. Pork Schnitzel was good. Fried right. Burger and fries were good, but portion was on the lighter side (especially compared to the schnitzel), and I'm not a huge eater or anything like that. Went to The Pines for breakfast this morning with my two and six year olds. The order for the counter format works, especially when you have the little ones with you. The food was great. The morning sandwich w eggs, bacon, and greens served over a buttermilk biscuit has become my new go-to. The space is super cool with sharpie murals that will make you go WOW. Favorite restaurant in the area! Food locally sourced and cooked with a home cooked charm, but with gourmet flavor. The menu changes daily but has a few consistent seasonal staples. My husband and I stopped in for the first time for an early dinner over the weekend, and we were pleasantly surprised. We've driven by the Pines dozens of times and never paid it any mind - it's so unassuming from the outside! Thankfully I looked through reviews more carefully and decided to finally check it out. We were seated at the circular table by the couches in the fairy lights room by ourselves, and completely adored the cozy, relaxed setting. Our spot certainly set the stage for a beautiful, romantic dinner. We ordered the pickled vegetables and squash muffins to start, and had the skirt steak and the special for the night, pork chop, as our entrees, along with some old fashioneds. I was impressed by how tasty everything was...we truly enjoyed it all! I would definitely come back again. FYI - my husband and I went to SILVIA in Woodstock for dinner the next day - different type of place, a little more pretentious, but comfortable and warm atmosphere too - we ordered 2 drinks, 2 starters, 2 entrees, ended up paying $50 more and all of that wasn't nearly as good as the Pines. read more
