On our last night in the Hudson Valley, I really wanted to enjoy dinner with a view--and this spot delivered. Tucked near the river, it was the perfect setting to wrap up our trip. The atmosphere was calm, breezy, and had that laid-back summer night feel that makes you want to linger just a little longer. Food: 4.5/5 We kicked off with a couple of appetizers, and honestly, I was pleasantly surprised. The pigs in a blanket were way more elevated than your average bar snack--wrapped well, seasoned with everything bagel spice, and super flavorful. A fun and unexpected highlight. The real star of the apps though? The watermelon and burrata salad. Juicy, fresh, light--it was the exact kind of dish you want on a summer night. Refreshing and satisfying all at once. For my entrée, I ordered the shrimp scampi but asked to add salmon for an extra protein boost (which they happily did). My husband got the seared tuna, and I'll admit--major food envy. His plate looked stunning and well-balanced, and he was thoroughly impressed. Service: 5/5 Everyone was so kind here. The staff checked in regularly, didn't rush us, and made sure we had what we needed without being overbearing. They also didn't blink when I asked to customize my entrée a bit, which I really appreciated. It made the whole meal feel even more relaxed and accommodating. Such a great experience! The place was right by the train tracks in the water, and it was really cozy and intimate. Our waiter was such a kind guy and very attentive. For food we got the chicken pot pie (very hearty and delicious) and salmon (very good according to my fish loving gf). Cocktails were also amazing and reasonably priced. I think dessert was the best part. The bread pudding was SO GOOD and is easily shared between two people. Would highly recommend for a nice night out. read more

Wow, an absolute GEM in rhinebeck. We were visiting rhinebeck for the fall foliage half marathon last weekend. Our airbnb was close to the restaurant and we decided to walk over for dinner. What a wonderful spot! Warm and cozy environment. The decor is lovely as well as the music. All of the wait staff is lovely. We had absolute fresh bread delivered to our table. I have had a LOT of bread in my life and this was just...one of the absolute best! We then shared a chicken pot pie, tagliatelle, and chicken cutlet. Everything was spiced to perfection. We liked this spot so much we returned for brunch the next day - another 10/10 experience! I had the pancakes and a mimosa to celebrate my run. Do not miss this hidden gem!!! Had a delicious dinner here tonight. We had a reservation at 730pm but we went early and they were able to seat us! Service is impeccable. We sat a wobbly table and ended up spilling our drinks all over ourselves. Our waiter Emmanuel and owner/manager Christopher immediately came over, moved us to another table and replaced our spilled drink. My husband had the chicken cutlet which he raved about and I had the chicken pot pie which was delicious! The crust was perfectly crispy. Thank you for a great meal! read more

I was not impressed by Kips brunch. The omelette was forgettable, the biscuit tasted like a dry Bisquick biscuit and I've had diner food that was much better. It's overpriced and ordinary. Won't be back. read more

The food was ok, the brunch menu was very limited, the service was terrible (we waited for our food for 50 minutes), the setting is wonderful, right on the river, the restaurant is stylish. We got lucky with beautiful weather and scored a table outside on the patio overlooking the river. We watched the beautiful sunset as we drank our Aperol Spritz's. We enjoyed pigs in a blanket and I had the salmon and my fellow diner had the chicken paillard. Both were flavorful and delicious as were the fries that we shared. The service was kind and attentive but not too fussy. The overall energy was really good both inside and out. I just wish they were open for dinner on Sunday so I could have enjoyed that before getting on the train. Will definitely return. read more

We were excited to try Kips Tavern and made a Saturday reservation for a group of four. The space is very nice with a patio overlooking the Hudson. Drinks and service overall were decent but the food is where things slipped. For appetizers we started with the onion dip, crab cakes, and shrimp cocktail. The onion dip was quite small and lacked much flavor (the chips were good). The crab cakes were over fried and actually dry unfortunately. The shrimp cocktail was the best of the three. For entrees we had the shrimp scampi, chicken cutlet, tuna, and chicken caesar salad. The scampi was severely lacking in flavor and needed salt/more lemon. The tuna also came up a little short but the cutlet and salads were solid. Not writing off Kips Tavern completely but really hope for an improved experience next time around. read more

What an amazing addition to Rhinecliff!! What used to be a run down Chinese restaurant has been transformed into a super cute gastropub. With an amazing view of the Hudson in the heart of this sleepy little train stop town. The food was EXCELLENT. Could have easily seen this on a menu in an upscale restaurant In Manhattan. I had the salmon and roasted potatoes..... delicious and perfectly cooked fish. We also got the chicken pot pie.,....yummy! Excellent, fast, efficient and very pleasant service as well. The food was simply delicious. The Swordfish special was excellent and the beet salad was scrumptious. The service also is excellent. My wife had the risotto and she said it was great! It is a nice dining room but they need to put something on the walls and ceiling to dampen the sound - extremely loud inside. Also, the chairs need cushions. Excellent! My husband and I had dinner here last night, after I had noticed it when taking Amtrak from the Rhinecliff station recently. We were fortunate to have gotten a table outside and were treated to a lovely sunset and even better food and service. It was a busy Saturday evening but our server, a young woman, was super friendly, helpful and efficient. We started with the chopped salad and the beet salad and both were fresh and tasty, especially the beet salad. For entrees we had the pasta and risotto, also great. Kip's tavern was a solid 10/10. Staff were friendly and Attentive. The restaurant is beautiful, located right by the Rhinecliff train station and right on the river. They have outdoor seating and lovely views. Bar was top-notch. They have a nice cocktail, menu and wine selection. We had the crabcakes, strip, steak, and tuna entree. Everything was excellently prepared and very good! I plan to go back again soon. read more

Very mediocre overall. Dining room was cold. Three of us only finished half our entrees and did not want to bring the leftovers home. Potato chips with onion dip were over salted, side of fries were overcooked. Shrimp pasta dish did not have much taste and the ahi tuna was below par and half was left on the plate which is hard to do with ahi. read more

Outstanding. It has brought new life back to Rhinecliff and in the space previously occupied by the renowned China Rose. The new owners have the same approach, good food, competent wait staff, and very comfortable seating. Every dish we had; the chicken soup, the beet salad, the chopped salad, the paillard of chicken, the burger, and bread pudding to finish, were all top quality. On the whole, the feel is "comfort food" with the only thing missing being Mac and Cheese and Meatloaf. Of course, there are bumps along the first few weeks of opening until the chefs fine-tune their process but all in all, our party of four could not have been happier. Best luck to the new owners. I think they will have a hit on their hands as long as they keep your customers coming back.....which means a more diverse menu. I understand the chicken pot pie is extraordinary so I've at least got that to look forward to on our next visit. Now...how about some Saké Margarita's from the old days? ;) read more

If you want a comforting taste treat, try the Chicken Soup with a homemade roll or the Roasted Beets. The atmosphere is very friendly and welcoming and the place itself is beautiful. We split the crab cake appetizer, 3 small crab cakes with a delicious sauce, I would have preferred them sautéed instead of deep fried but very good. We both had the special steak frites. At 4:45pm, 6.22.24, we decided to go to a nearby restaurant to which we have been multiple times. Not sure we would be had, having no reservations, when we arrived the entire restaurant was empty. It holds 100 patrons, give or take. They said they would squeeze us in. As we were being seated, a reservation came to be seated outside. We were asked if wanting beverages. I ordered beer, my friend ordered a mocktail. The mocktail turned out to be a scotch mash. The waiter apologized and had the correct drink made, though I was told it tasted just like a juice from a can. We ordered crab cakes as an appetizer. The waiter came back minutes later and said they were out of them. Note: first customers on a sold-out Saturday night. We opted for their fresh cut potato chips w/onion dip. The chips were stale and cold. The dip was sour cream with onion powder. On comment to the waiter, the owner approached, never apologized, but said he didn't understand; they were made THAT MORNING. Scallops was the main dish with jasmine rice and a pico corn. Scallops are my favorite seafood. The entire dish was barely luke warm. When we received the bill, the liquered drink price was still on there. read more

We loved our brunch at Kips Tavern. A relative newcomer to the area, it has re-energized the Rhinecliff waterfront in a post COVID, post Rhinecliff Hotel-closing era. My eggs Benedict were delicious, and my husband's egg-cheese-and sausage gravy biscuit rivaled anything that I could get back home in Georgia. My salmon dish was exceptional while my companion loved his tarragon-scented chicken pot pie. Prices for food and wine are reasonable, particularly these days, with the exception of the $5 ice tea. Service is professional. Here, suggested "tip percentages are based on the check AFTER taxes," why? But don't let these minor complaints deter you. There is lots to enjoy. read more
