Date and toffee pudding
Alexis S.

Went back for my birthday and everything was absolutely delicious. The service was so friendly and the ambiance was really nice, but the food of course was the highlight. The bread with that butter was so good, the Brussels sprouts were amazing and the fish and chips were absolutely delicious and so fresh (get a side of the curry aioli, I promise you it's sooo worth it)!! To top it all off, that date and toffee pudding with the ice cream was the perfect ending to a perfect meal. I will be back again, what a great way to spend an early birthday meal with my parents!

Missed this place on St Pats but got my fish and chip 3 days later...exceptional along with a Guinness...very pleasant and cozy

Quiet ambiance, not rushed and what looks like a complete menu to serve different tastes...

Shrimp Toast

The ambiance of this quaint restaurant is very welcoming, and it def gives you the vibe of charming Irish country side. The food is very exquisite. One of one best prawn toast we have ever had. One of the best meals we have in town.

Drove up from Long Island to try the elevated Irish cuisine. Boy, was it worth the trip! Just walking in the door was a treat. The lighting, smells, sound level, friendliness... all perfect. The drinks were creative versions of the classics. We had the aperitif spritz and the blackthorne, which was a delicious and interesting take on an old fashioned complete with hints of cardamom, Irish tea, absinthe, and bitters. The stout bread was also unique and a must. We ate a little and took home the rest. Delicious the next day as well! We order the raclette, which was more like an Italian fried cheese, but very light and perfectly balanced out by a vinegary potato-pickle-mustard salad. The Berkshire pork chop I ordered was easily the best chop I've ever had. Incredibly tender and flavorful. And when the juices mixed with the caraway cabbage slaw it made for a perfect sauce. My wife ordered the top notch beer battered fish. Even the desserts were great- sticky toffee gingerbread pudding and some sort of chocolate layer cake with buttercream and added cherry and other flavors. Overall just a great meal and great service. Can't rave enough about it. Just wish our overnight accommodations in Red Hook had lived up to the dining experience!

*Update 2/19* We ate here for the second time last Saturday night, and while the drinks and food remain wonderful, the restaurant was packed when we arrived for our 630 reservation. Our waiter was very friendly, but with limited service staff, we again found ourselves waiting for food. We ordered the chicken liver terrine, which came with 3 small slices of bread for the two of us. We wanted more bread, but couldn't get our waiter so we just finished the appetizer. We had been at the restaurant for an hour before the entrées came, and wished they included a little bit of extra carbs or starch (my husband's outstanding pork chop had a few halves of baby potatoes; my trout had a modest serving of white beans). The food is delicious, but it's definitely more of a leisurely experience. It was a solid 15 minutes for the appetizer to come out after we got our drinks. Next time we visit, I will probably order two appetizers, and just accept that it's going to take a while for the food to come out. The lot was packed so we had to find street parking a block away.**

We thoroughly enjoyed this place. The vibe is very similar to what you would get in Ireland. The server was kind and welcoming. All of her suggestions were spot on. The pork chop was delicious... and that's not something we would normally order. I had the fish special.. it had a very rustic Ireland flavor with a crisp crust. The prawns were an absolute favorite. I also enjoyed the salad which had a fresh blue cheese on it that my husband refused so I enjoyed happily on my own.

A few years ago, I bought a cookbook that billed itself as "Nouvelle Irish Cuisine." I eventually sold it, and my thought was, "I'd never cook any of the dishes here, but I'd eat them elsewhere." Welcome to "Elsewhere." It's too bad Yelp's limitations on categories of restaurants relegates a place like this to "Irish," because it's more like Irish inspired cuisine. As we were alternating between raving about and wolfing down our appetizer and cocktails, the staff commented on the focus given to complexity of taste on so much here for the food and drink, something of which I wholeheartedly approve. That was evident in the meals, the drinks, even the breads served before dinner. Oh, and they left room for focus on service too. The entree options are somewhat limited, but the specials often compensate. I went with duck, because duck, and we also ordered a special for the evening, venison medallions wrapped in bacon, because ... oh never mind, you get the idea! The mushrooms in truffle oil appetizer whetted our appetite for what was to come as well. After-dinner offerings included some decadent desserts, Irish coffee, specialty sorbets, and a generous assortment of digestifs, some of which I had to Google (which subsequently went onto my liquor shopping list). Bia is a nice addition to the dining scene in Rhinebeck, and it's now high on my list of local restaurants for a fancier evening out.

Great food, wonderful ambience and service. Highly recommend! I got the trout and my husband got the Sunday Roast special. One of the best dinners we had while visiting NYC and the Hudson Valley.

I am always scared when ordering shrimp cocktail due to the fact some establishments use crap grade shrimp, well not this place, they were spectacular. I believe many of the chefs I read graduated from the Culinary Institute of America which is located extremely close to this restaurant, and this could be part of the reason why their food game is on point. My girlfriend got the beef stew, and they gave ample portions of meat with delicious gravy and the mashed potatoes were nothing to sneeze at either. I got a couple Jack and Diet's and the upcharge for a double is not that bad, at the time of writing this I believe it is a four-dollar upcharge. Also got a merlot and it was fresh and delightful. If I lived closer to this place, I would be here all the time. There are several colleges near here, so I assume the vibe is great as well if you are looking to come and have a good time. The train station literally shares there parking lot so if you plan on partaking in a good time with drinks and spirits it would be a good idea to just train it over. As always people SYOY, and if you live even remotely close to Mahoney's, visit often for me! Cheers!!

All of the other sandwiches came on a brioche bun so I figured it wasn't a big deal but I really got a hard NO from the server. Another special was fish tacos. It was disappointing in taste, quality, and presentation. It was flat breaded fish filets on mini tortillas with some iceberg lettuce and a bit of pico. We asked for a sauce or hot sauce and were handed a bottle of of Tabasco. The other fish sandwiches were mediocre and definitely not homemade. Even the fries were frozen and not crispy. I guess I expected better for the steep prices.

Decided to have Irish food since that was the menu for the night. My friend had the shepherds pie and it was HORRIBLE. If you could find a carrot you were lucky never mind any of the other veggies. Cheerfully greeted by a nice person who was thrilled someone was trying her restaurant for the first time. Seemed it would be a pleasure! Banter! Joy! The location is adorable - an historic inn with lovely interior stone walls a nice bar, a dining room hung with farm implements and your usual skinny staircase and sunny porch. Absolutely thrilled by the continental and sometimes quirky selections (sweet and sour schnitzel? Why not!) Ordered quickly, letting the waitress know of time constraints. Half an hour later she brought the salad course. An hour after that, the manager or maître d' -- she never said but she did clearly have some authority and was the boss of the waitress--stopped by to inform the table that the delay was potato pancakes. The chef had apparently felt compelled to make a whole new batch of potato pancakes from scratch. And therefore it was our fault the food was taking so long. This would make sense if the table next to us wasn't also waiting twenty minutes for buffalo wings. And if our waters had been refilled. And if there were apologies rather than resigned excuses. The explanation landed like a desperate attempt at humor as the Titanic made a turn directly for the iceberg. No offer of even a comped cup of coffee, not a glass of wine, or even a sincere wish that things would go faster. We could do nothing but feel sorry for her and her staff in this wonderful little local inn and wonder who the monster was who is running the kitchen -- my beef stroganoff was terrific but the plate that made us late held a couple of small sausages, a large scoop of red cabbage and three jam-lid sized mashed potato fritters which could just as easily have been replaced by literally any starch... it was ninety minutes start to finish in this bizarre mystery of a restaurant. Was the chef on strike? Having a bad day? His front of house worked so very hard to cover for him. I have only sadness for this glorious little place - my favorite kind, locally owned, delicious dishes, deep pours. But I will only go back when I don't have a long drive ahead of me -- or perhaps for a laugh with people from the City who don't know how to slow down.
