Came to Bia as a recommendation from our BnB hosts, and we were blown away by how delicious (and unique) the food was! My partner and I love Irish pub food, and Bia elevates it to the next level. The bread with that butter was so good, the Brussels sprouts were amazing and the fish and chips were absolutely delicious and so fresh (get a side of the curry aioli, I promise you it's sooo worth it)!! To top it all off, that date and toffee pudding with the ice cream was the perfect ending to a perfect meal. Drove up from Long Island to try the elevated Irish cuisine. Boy, was it worth the trip! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Just walking in the door was a treat. We had the aperitif spritz and the blackthorne, which was a delicious and interesting take on an old fashioned complete with hints of cardamom, Irish tea, absinthe, and bitters. The stout bread was also unique and a must. We ate a little and took home the rest. Delicious the next day as well! We order the raclette, which was more like an Italian fried cheese, but very light and perfectly balanced out by a vinegary potato-pickle-mustard salad. The Berkshire pork chop I ordered was easily the best chop I've ever had. Incredibly tender and flavorful. And when the juices mixed with the caraway cabbage slaw it made for a perfect sauce. My wife ordered the top notch beer battered fish. Even the desserts were great- sticky toffee gingerbread pudding and some sort of chocolate layer cake with buttercream and added cherry and other flavors. Overall just a great meal and great service. Our waiter was very friendly, but with limited service staff, we again found ourselves waiting for food. We ordered the chicken liver terrine, which came with 3 small slices of bread for the two of us. We wanted more bread, but couldn't get our waiter so we just finished the appetizer. We had been at the restaurant for an hour before the entrées came, and wished they included a little bit of extra carbs or starch (my husband's outstanding pork chop had a few halves of baby potatoes; my trout had a modest serving of white beans). The food is delicious, but it's definitely more of a leisurely experience. It was a solid 15 minutes for the appetizer to come out after we got our drinks. Next time we visit, I will probably order two appetizers, and just accept that it's going to take a while for the food to come out. A few years ago, I bought a cookbook that billed itself as "Nouvelle Irish Cuisine." I eventually sold it, and my thought was, "I'd never cook any of the dishes here, but I'd eat them elsewhere." Welcome to "Elsewhere." It's too bad Yelp's limitations on categories of restaurants relegates a place like this to "Irish," because it's more like Irish inspired cuisine. As we were alternating between raving about and wolfing down our appetizer and cocktails, the staff commented on the focus given to complexity of taste on so much here for the food and drink, something of which I wholeheartedly approve. That was evident in the meals, the drinks, even the breads served before dinner. Oh, and they left room for focus on service too. The entree options are somewhat limited, but the specials often compensate. I went with duck, because duck, and we also ordered a special for the evening, venison medallions wrapped in bacon, because ... oh never mind, you get the idea! The mushrooms in truffle oil appetizer whetted our appetite for what was to come as well. After-dinner offerings included some decadent desserts, Irish coffee, specialty sorbets, and a generous assortment of digestifs, some of which I had to Google (which subsequently went onto my liquor shopping list). Bia is a nice addition to the dining scene in Rhinebeck, and it's now high on my list of local restaurants for a fancier evening out. read more

We enjoyed our third great meal at Bia tonight. I had the gnocchi arrabiata, soft with just the right amount of chewiness, with a good spice level and a dollop of mascarpone to cut the heat. On the side I had the little gem Caesar salad. I am a big fan of complex Caesar salads, and this fit the bill, with bottarga and an anchovy dressing, along with slices of radishes - great flavor. My wife ordered the chicken schnitzel, stuffed with fontina cheese and topped with mushrooms and kale. It looked unbearably heavy but proved to be light and flavorful - and huge. We also split an order of Brussels sprouts, maybe the best I've ever had. It's a rich dish, best shared - I never thought Brussels sprouts could be an indulgence but these were a delight. We reserved a tent, feeling a bit like Arabian royalty. Great soundtrack on the patio, our own private heater; however at 20 degrees we still kept our coats on! Very attentive servers popped in frequently. We ordered 5 small plates to share, each delicious and saved room for the fig pudding and chocolate torte. We came to Rhinebeck and stayed at the Beekman Arms. We were looking for a spot that was close and had decent reviews and Bia fit the bill. Just a block away and people seem to like the place. What a great little restaurant. The outside ambiance is fantastic, put us in a great mood immediately. Our first glimpse of how the food was going to be was the bread, it was fabulous. We ate it up smiling. I order the milk punch and it was so damn good. We ordered apps, I think the calamari and the cured Irish gravlax. It was amazing, especially the gravlax, it's all I really remember from the apps we ordered. Next we ordered the tempura fish and chips and the pan roasted steelhead trout. Both were delicious!. Great tasting food here at Bia. Drinks were really tasty, service was attentive and food was outstanding. The only thing we really didn't understand was the service charge added to the bill. Was that the tip? Anyway I added a little extra and gave it to the waitress. Still don't know want the service charge was. Don't really run into that a lot. Prices were great at this place anyway so all and all, we were happy to pay whatever the bill required. If you're searching around for food in Rhinebeck, come here, you'll be as happy as we were. Great experience from start to finish. My husband, 2 year old daughter and myself were having dinner with a friend and they were super friendly towards my daughter (not always the case with finer dining places) They had a small plate special of pate with cranberry chutney, mustard and pickles that was super delicious and light. My friend ordered a boca roja and asked to see if the bartender could make a mocktail version (I'm 6 months pregnant). He made a very tasty mocktail that my friend said mimicked it well. For entrees, my husband got the Sunday roast, and my friend and I ordered the fish and chips which I shared with my daughter. The fish was cooked perfectly with a nice light tempura batter. I just wish it had been a tiny bit more seasoned but it paired deliciously with the aioli for the chips which had great flavor. Mushy peas were flavorful and we enjoyed our meal very much. read more

I ordered the Venison fricassee which was one of the best meals I've ever had because of how well the venison was seasoned and cooked. The Irish whiskey cream under the venison was a little too creamy but was definitely the right combination. Bia is an absolutely delicious restaurant in Rhinebeck. Aside from finding it through research on Yelp, we were recommended this place right off the bat -- by a waiter at a competing restaurant down the street, no less. Basically he was like, if you're a foodie, there's nowhere else to go besides Bia. Naturally the hot pink tents are fabulous and the Wait staff is is extremely attentive, kind, and joked around with us. When you walk into the restaurant, you're staring directly at the bar where the bartender is whipping up cocktails. I eyed him pouring some Mezcal into the cocktail shaker and immediately wanted whatever drink he was concocting. Sure enough, I told him he'd be making another shortly and sure enough, I found it on the menu and sure enough, he was shaking up another 1....2... then some sort of dessert drink because we wanted to stay here longer and this place got me good and nasty (you can tell from my pic quality, I was feeling fiiiiiiiine!) the dishes, all recommended by Waiter who knew them like the back of his hand, were divine. We were especially obsessed with the crispy Brussels with an egg on top, and of course a restaurant that calls itself Irish modern had some bangin' bangerz and mash. The mushrooms were also delectable. Weird to say it, but it was the sides and drinks that made this place so damn good. Hidden off Main Street in picturesque Rhinebeck this place blew me away. Elevated Irish cuisine, gorgeous decor and friendly and knowledgeable staff really made this a wonderful meal. For starters we ordered the cured organic salmon, chips (fries), and a cheese plate. All good here and went really well with their house made corn bread! The mains were the stars of the show. I had a Berkshire pork belly with butter poached lobster. It was just as good and as decadent as it sounds. Other highlights from our party's order were the pheasant, scallops and grass fed steak. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented. We washed it all down with some artisanal cocktails. They really know what they are doing here with the drinks. The food is unimagined and very expensive. Every dish was memorable, and not for the right reasons. Kitchen clearly ran out of oysters for the night (a Saturday night around 8) and instead of taking the fried oysters off the monkfish special or 86'ing the dish, the chef chose to substitute oysters with chicken. Aside from being a really bad move food-wise, we were not informed of the switch, despite my brother (a pescatarian of over a decade) asking our server if there was any meat in the dish, which he was assured there was not, and the manager clarified as well. When we asked our server why there was chicken in lieu of oysters on the dish, he initially denied the reality - went back to the kitchen to clarify - denied it again - and then eventually admitted to the substitution. Clearly there was a decision to get chicken in case they ran out of oysters, and run the dish with that - choosing not to inform guests of the switch, and having two FOH staff assure us there was no meat. In the days since, the restaurant staff and their friends have harassed me on Yelp and Facebook for sharing what happened. I understand figuring out the early stages of a restaurant is difficult, and there are bumps, but making decisions to deceive your guests and disregard customers' health/wellbeing is unforgivable. read more

Everything is carefully chosen and presented. The staff is pleasant and attentive. So... The drinks, expensive, come in what I call dollhouse glasses. At 15 to 17 bucks a pop... I mean, pour me a tall one. And... The menu runs from 20 to 30 bucks or so for entrees I assumed the quail special would be similarly priced. No price was attached to the specials when recited. Bill arrives, 39 bucks. You can't do that. In sum, fine evening, fine food, $130 before tip. Ouch. read more

Overall a good experience with one issue. Menu is interesting and diverse, though only one entry for vegetarians (a delicious barley risotto). Food is excellent, especially the fried broccoli. Attentive service, nice room. BUT loud raucous rock and roll was blasting out of the speaker right over our table. In a bar setting it'd be fine but totally inappropriate for a restaurant charging $70+ per person. The volume was lowered slightly when we asked the waitress, but we still had to speak in a raised voice to be heard in conversation. Jazz or even mellow rock, at a lower level, would be much more appropriate. read more
