Made reservations for 8 people a couple weeks before Christmas for 5pm on a Friday. It was not busy yet on arrival but started to pick up as we were leaving. We ordered a bunch of apps and bottles of wine to start. Everyone enjoyed the sampler, coconut shrimp, calamari, raclette, even escargot! For my main, I shared the Chateaubriand for 2 with my husband. The meat was perfectly cooked and tender, crisp potatoes, and the other veggies were fresh. I even enjoyed the red cabbage which was sweet and flavorful. The bearnaise and peppercorn sauces were an excellent complement to the meat and veggies. For dessert, I had the Toblerone sauce and ice cream, which I enjoyed but wish I had gotten the almond creme brulee which tasted so good! Terrible experience from the moment we entered. The hostess was talking with a friend and wouldn't even look our way to say a friendly "good evening." The bartender/ manager was a few feet away and saw us standing there looking lost, looked directly at us, and went back to scrolling on her phone...When we were finally seated, service was generally slow and unfriendly. At one point the runner practically threw the basket of bread at our table, and paired it with a callous "there ya go" (she must have been in quite a hurry). She would only ever fill one of our water glasses even though both were empty. And we generally felt unwelcome and won't be returning. Food was mediocre as well. This is not a 5 star gourmet restaurant, but it has solid food and service. Place was abuzz with obviously regulars that know the food is good. I had a fondue dish with pork, chicken, steak, and shrimp. It had a side of spaetzle! Very creative! My wife had a pork tenderloin and my son had steak frites. All was good. Came here with my family who visited us for the weekend. We were tired of BBQ's at the house and wanted to enjoy a nice outing especially after the virus. I have to say I was really surprised how spacious the place was. We ate in the patio and the view was really nice. Our server was really friendly and attentive. I'm from this little town but have not been back for decades. in town for a HS reunion & the other restaurants were either booked or closed so I walked through the doors at the Canterbury for the first time in 30 years. I just have to say this meal was phenomenal. Truly. I wasn't expecting to have my socks knocked off but whoever is the head chef at this restaurant knows what they are doing. Been to the Canterbury Brook Inn twice. Most recently for this review a week ago. I love the ambiance of the restaurant and the people there are more than warm and welcoming. My Manhattan cocktail was mixed to perfection and all of our dinners were absolutely delicious. We received our salad starters pretty quickly and I have to say they were a bit on the smallish side and unexceptional. It did take quite a bit of time then for our main courses to arrive. I was beginning to get impatient and a bit over the wait but then they came. I had the Pan Seared Pork Tenderloin Zürichoise with Spatzle on the side. Incredible incredible!!! The sauce delectiable and the pork so tender.... the spätzle done obviously by a chef who knows authenticity. Two thers in our party ordered the Chateaubriand "Bouquetiere". It comes sliced on the plate , cooked perfectly and exceptional in quality and flavor. The other in our party had a Risotto which I did not taste but they were more than pleased. Canterbury Brook Inn is on our list of must go to when we are visiting Cornwall. I tried to go for lunch but they open at 5PM. read more

OMG! It was delicious and for the wonderful food, so moderately priced. Both my friend and I ordered the special. You could get soup or salad. entree, and dessert for 21 bucks. What a deal! I had the salad and the chicken cordon blue. It came with spazel and assorted cooked vegetable. The chicken came in a delightful breading stuffed with ham and cheese. Best I ever had! For desert, I ordered the chocolate surprise. It was vanilla icecream over a brownie topped with chocolate sauce. I ate everything. If I could lick the plate it was that good! Very underwhelming. The menu looked great online so we decided to give it a try. Prices suggested that we were in for a good meal. That was wrong. It was diner-grade fare at best. Ordered the duck special and it was not cooked properly at all. A few bites were good but most were chewy. The "duck sauce" tasted like it came out of a container. Veggies were meh. We were pleasantly surprised with our dinner tonight. Fried calamari and shrimp appetizer was perfect! Crispy and tender. The wings were ok. Mushroom soup was delicious! Went 2 weeks ago. We only saw our main waitress 3 times. Taking our order, asking is what dessert we want and then the check. Other wait servers brought us all our food. No one asked if we want refills. No one asked if we need anything. It was on a Wednesday so it was half empty. Food was bland. Very disappointed. Cheesecake was excellent, vegetables were really good. That's it. Fish was bland. Roasted potatoes had no flavor. Wife's pasta had no flavor and apple dessert was no flavor. Wife went back again on a Saturday and it was even worse. Salads and food took forever. Drinks took forever. They had to ask another waitress to find their waitress. Horrible service. Again, not crowded. They said the chicken was dry and other food was not good. read more

I guess i would say i had a fairly regular experience here. Having come a few times, nothing really changes. I feel like the menu and decor are geared towards an older crowd, which is fine if you are older, but an update would probably do them some good. The menu is short but full. The service is hit and miss. Ive been on nights that its been great, and ive been on nights that ive had to ask for water refills (tonight). I give 3 stars bc i cant really say theres anything im over the moon for here. But its a solid establishment thats obviously doing something right considering its been in the area forever. read more

Pretty Good. Came here for a date. The the bartender was friendly and knew how to make a drink. The food was definitely spot on. All that I remember is that it was delicious - I forgot what I had here! Also, the waitress was pretty friendly as well. They had this fruit with cream dessert that was out of this world. I ordered the Steak Frites, and while the steak was flavorful and perfectly cooked, the rest of the meal was mediocre at best. The "frites" aka shoestring french fries were nothing special and I've had better at McDonalds. The sautéed vegetables were mushy and there was about a tablespoon of red cabbage as an afterthought. It's the type of place in which you want to linger because of the warmth and geniality that's present in everything about you. It's been awhile since I've visited so I don't remember the exact dish I ordered, but I don't recall being dissatisfied with my meal. Went for Restaurant week. We had the coconut scallops, and the shrimp risotto specials from the restaurant week menu. Appetizers were the asparagus and the sweet potato bisque. All the foods were great. The only issue is there were about 7 specials that the waiter told us about. Wish there was a menu with the specials and prices listed. My husband and I received a gift certificate for here. Our meal was just excellent. My husband had the calamari for an appetizer, osso buco as the entree, and the apple fritters for dessert. I had the shrimp cocktail, the bow tie pasta with chicken and artichokes with vodka sauce and the apple-apricot tart with ice cream. Our meal was fantastic. The coffee was so good that we had several cups. The waiter and all the staff that work the meal were outstanding. The place was really busy last night with no table remaining empty long. So glad I made a reservation. The fireplace was cozy and, with the cold temps, made it extremely welcoming. The atmosphere was homey with lots of wood walls and several dining rooms.
