I do enjoy this place a lot! I would love to give it 3.5 stars but unfortunately I can't! The menu is not that extensive, but they do have a lot of pizza options. I've never had a "bad" dish here. Everything has its own unique flavor. However, this last visit of mine was sub-par. The chicken francese was cold, and the pasta was extremely al dente, almost to the point where it tasted undercooked. The desserts, carrot cake and raspberry sorbet, were delicious! The friend mozzarella was also really good. Our server, Samantha (that's what the receipt said!) was very very lovely and patient! She suggested the white sangria and I must say, it was delicious! As a latino city boy, our first time here and the food completely blew me away!! First off we started with apps (mussels & meatball). The mussels were great but the meatball and the GD GRAVY OH MAMA MIAAAA w that ricotta cheese over it was just a banger 9/10! The mussel had the right level of spice and again the SAWCE OMG 9/10 Now to the course, ordered a cheese New York style pie for my daughter, I in the other hand with the recommendation of the waitress (Audrey) who was amazing btw, ordered the broccoli pie with her recommendation, at first was hesitant but her expression when talking about it, I caved. The pecorino with their amazing ricotta and garlic paste, was outstanding! One recommendation from me, chop the broccoli flowers a bit and spread them bc they're to big. Enjoyed 2 of the spritz drinks on the drink menu, which can't find copy anywhere. The first and fourth were our choices. The fourth (with blackberries)was the winner. Loved it. First was just ok. We had a light dinner since traveling. We tried the fried calamari with spicy pomodoro sauce (not spicy at all) on the side. Prefer keeping the calamari crisp, not soaked in sauce. That was very good. We added a Margarita pepperoni pizza which was good too. They offered fresh parmigiana cheese to sprinkle on top which did add great flavor. We enjoyed the fresh pizza. Wish they wouldn't leave so much crust with nothing on it. Ends with a little pile of crust pieces at a lot of tables. Pizza is their specialty overall. Our neighbors table tried the sausage pepperoni pizza. The chicken parmigiana and the baked shrimp, kale on rice dish. The chicken was tough and overcooked. So were the shrimp. She had a hard time slicing through the chicken. They were pretty disappointed. The pizza was delicious and ended with a pile of crust pieces too. We sat so close, couldn't help but chit chat about dinner choices. Glad we tried this place since we travel this way often. Best to keep it simple. We enjoyed our appetizer and pizza selections but the main meals seem to be lacking. The waitress was delightful, very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. So 5 stars for staff. Tables are very close together so you squish your way in to sit between tables and I'm a small person. It's a very loud family type Italian restaurant, which I love. Venue is absolutely beautiful. Tons of seating & private rooms included. Came a few times to have dinner with my wife. We ordered the Chicken Francais, Grilled Chicken Penne, Chicken Parmigiana, Pepperoni Pizza & the caesar salad. All of the dishes were well portioned and fresh! I would recommend splitting some of these plates since the portions are a bit large. After a few visits we got seated in the wine cellar area & I would say although this place is fantastic the cellar area was very cold at 59 degrees. If you do get seated here just request for them to raise the temperature a bit. Food - 4.5/5 Atmosphere- 4.5/5 Service - 4/5 Extra Notes: Although we were seated downstairs & told the staff it was cold! They didn't offer to move us upstairs even though they had plenty of seats available in the main eating area. We didn't complain we just went with the flow. Our server was terrific and did the best she could. Maybe whoever is incharge of seating should be ontop of things a bit better. I would recommend this place to friends & family. read more

Always love going to Cosimos in Newburgh. The lovely family style Italian restaurant is always hopping and was it ever on a Friday night. Not a table available when we got there had to wait a short time which was well worth it. My wife and I shared the fried calamari and boy was it ever succulent. I ordered the pasta Della nonna which comes with meatballs my favorite dish I might add, while my wife ordered the short ribs that is complimented with polenta and broccoli rabe. In the company of good friends and fellow Yelpers Marlene G. and Kiddeft K. on Christmas Eve 2023, I am comforted with merriment, cheers, food, wine and finally in good times. I finally muster the strength to get out of my despondent and melancholy wracked with grief disposition and managed to catch a intercity bus from NYC to Hudson Valley. My travels takes me for an Italian lunch in Newburgh, NY with a party of seven which I was utterly disappointed with the food and mostly the excessive poor customer service. With optimism and faint hope, I hoped for good quality food or at least good customer service for the deficiency, but our waitress was inattentive who took her sweet time returning to our table for food orders and including bill payment pick-up. Our waitress appeared full of conviction, disconnected with reality and unable to service our table with clarity for situational awareness. It was not entirely busy with a full house of patrons during lunch hour. One friend and fellow Yelper, Kiddeft K.'s, soup was very oily greasy. One of my party member's pizza contained a strand of long blond hair which was sent back while the rest of us nearly finished our meals when his new pizza arrived. This is would never happen in NYC as it is a direct violation of NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene's sanitary health and food safety protocols. This strand of human hair embedded in food is a direct depiction of the cook or Sous chef who has long blonde hair and does not wear hair nets, nor gloves as required when handling food. We were not properly compensated either with a small percentage discount from the bill nor offered a lagniappe as one free dessert for the mishap hair in the pizza. No, I would not return. I am glad to remove Cosimo's On Union from my Yelp bookmark. All in all as a consequence, my gratuity was 15%. My lunch meal consists of: Herb baked shrimp $27.00 Jumbo shrimp, garlic & herb bread crumbs, rice, sauteed baby kale. I did not like the rice as it appears mushroom or black rice which was included. How about yellow rice cooked with salted butter with shrimp and kale vegetables as a substitute? The green kale vegetable was crunchy, but the breaded shrimp was refreshing taste than deep-fried breaded. The shrimp was peeled and deveined, but not harden to taste like rubber as deep-fried or batter fried. It was a good consistency. Melini Chianti $10.00 (glass) This is one of my predilection choice for red wine. It is light-bodied, bright ruby red in color with a nose of raspberry, blackberry and a touch of violet aroma. We literally plan our drive to New Orleans around dinner at Cosimo's. It always amazes me that a chain restaurant (albeit a small regional one) can feel special but Cosimo's does. It's big and bright and full of pictures of the family, and it has the unmistakable sound of happy people eating. You can see it in the servers too, they're walking around smiling. Cosimo's menu is basically classic Italian-American, you're going to be familiar not surprised. And every single thing we have EVER had, in maybe 5 visits in as many years, has been wonderful. Tonight's was a superb (and big!) piece of salmon, crisp brown skin and barely cooked middle, over white beans and broccoli rabe. My husband had a very nice clams and white sauce over linguine. Everything else was great too. The sun-dried tomato bruschetta and bread they bring with the menus deserves special mention because it's wonderful and just appears. And great cappuccino. You knew by now we loved the service too and yes. They're friendly, competent, and they like it here, and it shows. Lastly but it's important--it's very reasonable. I would like to update my recent review of the Newburgh Cosimo's location as they took the time to follow up and respond. Cosimo's stated our Server did turn up the heat in the wine cellar, but maybe it took longer to warm up especially due to the colder temperatures we've been having. They also said they reached out to confirm our reservation, and they would've been happy to remake my meal had they known anything was amiss and not meeting my satisfaction. I'd like to reiterate the fact that we were placed in a wine cellar due to the lack of space in the restaurant. Normal temperatures of a wine cellar are not to exceed 60°, so even if the temperature was raised, it wasn't raised to a point we could sit comfortably without donning our winter coats. Our reservations were also made the night before and less than 24h prior to our seating time. Another confirmation would've been unnecessary and regardless of our response or lack thereof, we didn't cancel and we arrived prior to 6p. At that point it was clear our table hadn't been set aside and we could not be accommodated because Cosimo's was at capacity. It is usually customary to hold someone's table for a few minutes after their reservation time, not give it away beforehand. It would've been appropriate to contact our party if we hadn't shown up, and to mention the consequences of not arriving on time. Once again, we arrived prior to our reservation time, and we weren't the only party whose reservation was not upheld. Finally, I don't make a practice of returning food, hence why I asked for spices to enhance the flavor of my meal. I also ordered 2 different pizzas: chicken artichoke, and the truffle pizza. Neither had flavor. One dish I may understand, but two? It is now clear to me that not only was Cosimo's ill-prepared to handle the crowd, but instead of accepting responsibility for their mistakes, they tried to absolve it by making it seem as though there was a lack of communication on the part of the patron. Let's face it: you didn't set aside tables for those who reserved them and if you did, you gave them away. And then you sat us in the cold. Congratulations, you've been downgraded to 1 star because Yelp policy doesn't allow zero stars. This review does not reflect how diligent our Server was despite the circumstances. read more

This review is for takeout, based on one order. I got Seafood Fra Diavolo, for the substantial price of $26. Maybe acceptable if it was good but it was not. The pasta (pappardelle) was so overcooked it broke into bits when twirled around the fork, and much of it was stuck together into large clumps. The sauce was more like a broth, not the fiery marinara I have come to expect for this dish. Hardly any seasoning at all - until I discovered the chiffonned basil hiding in a corner. Not nearly spicy-hot enough for the name "Diavolo". On the positive side, there was a generous amount of seafood: clams, mussels, shrimp, and calamari (and not only the rings). All was fine except for the calamari which was tough and there was too much of that. Parking was difficult and I circled the place 3 times trying to find the entrance. It seemed that half the lot was taken up by Tesla charging stations. The plastic silverware provided for takeout was flimsy and rubbery, barely usable, and the single napkin provided was barely more substantial than a square of toilet paper. read more
