Such a nice quaint little place. The ambiance is in the likeness of moulin rouge- it even has the movie billboard on the back to show the menu. The food spot on; Hungarian/ French fusion. The Langos is an absolute get; don't make it fancy just order it original. The schnitzel is a must have as well. I didn't necessarily like the libations- kinda weak; actually let me rephrase absolutely diluted. But nonetheless worth visiting. I'm tempted to give 3 stars but the food really was true to form.

My new favorite restaurant. Went back on Schnitzel night, friend got Chicken Schnitzel. Butcher Steak off main menu. Had Toffee chocolate dessert. Another great meal.

Loved the food and atmosphere at ROLi. I had the branzino with grilled corn & vegetable salad, corn puree & petit cilantro - amazing! Had glass of Prosecco Della Contessa Brut NV, which was very good. Will be back!

After a few spoiled years of Brooklyn dining (where even the dive bars have opinions about fermentation), my husband and I have been trying to fall back in love with the New Haven food scene. We've already done the full circuit and were starting to run out of steam. Then he spotted this place on Yelp and somehow grabbed a same-day 9 pm Friday reservation. Walking in, it was buzzing. Packed, energetic, not a sleepy student crowd in sight. The space has that semi-upscale vibe that could lean sterile if not for the open kitchen and movie-theater-style board listing the specials -- quirky touch, and it works. We were seated elbow-to-elbow with two other tables (so maybe not your candlelit-date choice), but given the packed house it wasn't as loud as I thought. We ordered the burrata, beet salad, octopus, and cod. Everything had personality -- creative but balanced. The cod was steamed perfectly with a sauce that somehow managed to be both rich and delicate, and the beet salad with citrus was just so smartly done. Honestly, this is what Tavern on State wants to be: food that's actually good and inventive without tipping into try-hard territory. Hope they keep it up -- it's easily our new favorite spot. Parking's your usual parallel-street adventure, but we found a space nearby and rolled right in.

What a great restaurant! Service, ambience, food was excellent. Some of our favorite dishes were the mushroom with polenta, the watermelon salad, the branzino, and the langos!! The peri peri shrimp and the steak were solid but the other dishes were so good! Definitely give this place a try!

ROLi is quite the experience in New Haven! I was so excited to try this beautiful new place and it far exceeded expectations. The dinning room is beautiful, a fun and lively atmosphere with a mix of low-top, high-top, and bar seating. So we went here on Saturday evening .. what first catches your eye is the classy interior esp the bar, green with gold accents... clearly designed to be both seen and instagrammed ... The attention to detail carries into the food and drinks as well. The chef is Hungarian with a training in French cuisine.. so definitely expect that through the menu. Modern European Flair with good quality food & ingredients. The Salmon entree was the best I've ever had.... It was cooked to perfection with a crispy skin. This could easily become a go-to for date nights. Next time I want to try Lángos (Hungarian fried bread).

We returned to Roli to try brunch, after having a fantastic dinner a month or so ago. Once again, they outdid themselves. Outstanding smoked salmon sandwich and arany galuska. The gulyas soup and jambon Benedict were also excellent. Great atmosphere and service as usual. Easy to say, this is New Haven's best restaurant, we'll certainly be back again.

I wish I could gate keep this place but everything was incredible! The staff was so accommodating and everything we ate was so unique and well done. Will be coming here regularly!

We went for their Hungarian night, which as of now is on Tuesdays. As someone who went to Hungary almost every summer as a child to visit family, I've always missed Hungarian food in the US. Even good Hungarian food is very hard to find where I've lived. Hence, I was so happy to find this place. They make things a bit differently from what I'm used to, but still "magyaros" and "hagyományos," just with a bit of some fine-dining and personal touches from the chef, which were welcome. For instance, never tasted that much köménymag (?) in a gulyás, and they may have toned down the intensity of garlic I'm used to on lángos. Nonetheless, these are quite subjective, and the food was still quite flavorful, delicious, and fulfilling--just what I was looking for. I'm looking forward to trying other Hungarian offerings in the future if they switch things up! My favorite dish was the csirkepaprikás--they nailed it with the flavors and texture. Lángos and fánk can often be too oily for my tastes, but these were perfect without sacrificing the flavor. The apricot jam and the powdered sugar on the fánk were awfully nostalgic for me and reminiscent of the baked goods I'd had frequently in Hungary. Really, all of it was delicious. This was the first time my girlfriend ever tried Hungarian food, and this place left an excellent first impression. The ambience inside was interesting and alluring--sort of higher energy for dine dining, yet with the lighting perfect and some elegance. The service was decent, and the waiter and waitresses cut to the chase with their questions and communications. Will definitely come here again, maybe for their schnitzel night. Gratulálok a szakácsnak!

Beautiful restaurant; well designed and chic! Menu is interesting and has European dishes. We enjoyed our experience and its a great date spot. Food was well done. Heads up, it is street parking!

Great date night spot with good variety of appetizers and entrees. The octopus in the pulpo was tender but leaned heavily on the sauce for flavor. The branzino was well balanced. Service was quick and friendly.

The chef spoke to me and my mom the whole night about every topic I could've imagined (we sat at bar). All while cooking the most delicious food I've ever had! Truly one of the most unique culinary experiences of my life.

Wow. Went to Roli to celebrate my BFF's birthday. Parking isn't the best but we were able to snag a street spot and our other dining companion parked in their lot where they validate your ticket for $5 parking fee. We waited maybe 20-25 minutes for our table at the bar. We ended up moving from the table back to the bar because service was super slow and there was a huge group next to us getting all the attention. Onto food. We started with the bread which came with truffle ricotta. Delicious. We went a little overboard on the apps so also got Brussel sprouts, which were delicious as well. Loved the pearl onions and peppers. So good. We also got truffle frites and the polenta with mushrooms. All the appetizers were very delicious. For entrees we all got different fishes. I had the cod. It was incredible. The sauce it came with was outstanding and the leeks in the dish really stood out. The birthday girl had the skate piccata dish and loved hers and our other friend had the branzino and loved it. We were so stuffed at this point but were celebrating a birthday so wanted to dessert. We were torn between the baked Alaska and the toffee pudding but went with the baked Alaska. It was good but you have to like basil a lot as it was basil and strawberry inside. During our time at the bar we were very well cared for by Andres and the female bartender. The decor in this place was incredible and you can see a lot of thought went into the design. We will definitely be back. Don't sleep on this place!

Great new spot in New Haven. Cocktails, food and ambiance are all stellar. Theme nights during the week are worth the trip.

We were welcomed with freshly baked bread and a warm gougère, which reminded me of Brazilian pão de queijo. For drinks, I enjoyed the French 75 along with the non-alcoholic Pamplemousse, while my niece ordered the non-alcoholic Guadalupe. To start, we each had the French onion soup, which was rich, flavorful, and comforting. We also shared the foie gras torchon, which my niece described as incredibly smooth and creamy. For our entrées, we ordered the filet of beef and the rack of lamb. Both were cooked to perfection, and I appreciated that neither dish was overwhelmed with gravy or sauce, allowing the quality of the meat to shine. For dessert, we shared the mixed berry soufflé and the Feuillantine. The Feuillantine was my favorite--it was wonderfully rich, chocolatey, and creamy. Pairing bites of the light, fruity soufflé with the decadent chocolate dessert turned out to be a delicious combination. To end the meal, the restaurant surprised us with complimentary pistachio macarons, which was a thoughtful finishing touch. The restaurant has an elegant atmosphere that feels refined without being stuffy. Combined with the outstanding food and exceptional service, it made for a memorable celebration, and I'd happily return.

If Michelin ever rates CT this will absolutely and deservedly get a star. The service was excellent, the drinks were fabulous (they had champagne waiting for us; it was our anniversary). We found a charming and lovely restaurant with delightful French cooking. The deal really can't be beat. The small buffet area was ample both with options and flavor! She asked if we wanted a salad and choice of soups that they had for the day. They were brought out from the kitchen with a basket of rolls. We chose the creme of leeks soup. So warm and comforting! On the buffet: Turkey meatballs Chicken Dijon sauce Mussels & Clams Garlic sauce Also some sliced and cubed cheese were out on the buffet. For dessert they had small portions of bread pudding to help yourself to. We ate until we could eat no more! Marie was very kind and attentive. We were not rushed at all. We had a relaxing and pleasant lunch date. Honestly, if they were closer than us, I'd be there all the time. Maybe for dinner the next time! I ordered UberEats from them before and was blown away by the tremendous offerings and generous portions. I decided to dine in and it was even better! The restaurant is located on the busy Northern Blvd between Morgan and Glenwood. The inside has a 19th century French ambiance, decorated with French posters, carpeted floors and a cozy warm dining area. Don't worry about the never ending traffic noise, commotion , and construction coming from outside. The calm and peaceful ambiance along with the music playing in the restaurant canceled out all the exterior noise. I opted in for their lunch buffet, which offered a ton of food for an amazing $18.95 deal which you can hardly find in this day and age. The restaurant gave a nice basket of warm bread with a generous amount of butter in a ramekin followed by a really good Tunisian salad with a little bit of everything. (fresh greens, cooked carrots, chickpea salad, diced cucumbers peppers and their take on the Ratatouille-- really good) I was given the option of getting their daily soup or the French Onion Soup with an up charge. I took the French option soup without any hesitation. Last time I had a good French onion soup was back when I attended college in upstate. Glad I got to try the one from here. The onion soup has an abundance of flavor with a generous amount of melted cheese and onions. The buffet selections were at the table. It came with two entrees (a chicken and a beef) cooked vegetables, mussels, mixed rice, cheese selection and slices bread cake. The entrees vary each day so be sure to call in and check. The chicken was moist, and juicy, served with a mushroom gravy. Similar to a Chicken Marsala dish. The stewed beef with mushrooms was nice and soft. The veggies included carrots and onions. The mussels were cooked to perfection, simmered in a nice buttery sauce. The meal also includes a cup of coffee or tea. What a great way to finish the meal. Marie was super nice and friendly. She gave me some insights on the food and the different menus they have on different days. A great establishment going strong for 47 years! Thank you Marie for everything. I will definitely be returning with my family.
