İ like the place like Union League Cafe. White tablecloths, educated staff, nice decorations, unique, different menu,... They open at 5pm. I am glad we made a reservation because the place get crowded in first hour... They bring four piece cheesy little cookie which is pretty tasty and they bring warm and nice bread with butter. There is a plain and sparkly water choices. Bottle or tap also We took Scollop ceviche and duck confit for appetizer. Aaand for the entrees we took -BONE MARROW ENCRUSTED FILET (bone marrow crust, roasted parsnip, crisp potato mille-feuille, bordelaise sauce) -HAY SMOKED DUCK BREAST (tokyo turnip glace, stinging nettles, apricot mustardo) And at the and we share cream brûlée with French press coffee. Overall was pretty good! Thank you!

Private party in the beautiful bar area. Service was very attentive. Drinks creative and bartenders quickly had everyone served. Food was delicious. Always a pleasure when a restaurant is as good as you remembered from the last visit!

    Duck Confit ($24)

Amazing service and food! I came here with a friend to celebrate her graduation, and it was the best decision. We had reservations and were seated immediately upon arrival. There was a lovely congratulations card waiting for her at the table, which I appreciated. We ordered: Duck Confit ($24) Sheep's Milk Ricotta Gnocchi ($18) Plateau Royale ($85) - raw bar menu Lobster & Shrimp Boudin ($45/plate) Soufflé Du Jour ($15) They started us off with complimentary bread and butter, and the butter was incredible--similar to French butter and rich in flavor. Next, we had the Plateau Royale ($85), which included 6 oysters, 6 clams, 4 jumbo shrimp, tuna tartare, and scallop ceviche. The tuna tartare and scallop ceviche were definitely the highlights of this dish--extremely fresh! I loved the extra crisp that came with the tuna tartare and wished there was more. The oysters, clams, and shrimp were good, but nothing particularly memorable. The Duck Confit ($24) was a solid 4/5. The attention to detail was impressive. The potato galette was perfectly crispy, and I loved the crunch as I bit into it. It was also my first time trying duck prosciutto (I didn't even know that existed!), and it was fantastic--properly cured and salted. The duck meat in the center was a bit dry and could use more flavor. The Sheep's Milk Ricotta Gnocchi ($18) was a 5/5. This was my friend's dish, and she loved it! As someone who isn't usually a fan of gnocchi, I have to say this would be the only place I'd order it from. The gnocchi just melts in your mouth, and the pesto was incredible. We both ordered the Lobster & Shrimp Boudin ($45/plate), and it was delicious. At first, the presentation wasn't quite what we expected (it could use some work), but flavor-wise, it was fantastic. You could really taste the lobster and shrimp, and the boudin was moist and full of flavor. Since we ordered so much food, we couldn't finish everything, and took the leftovers to go. I was worried it might dry out when reheated, but surprisingly it was still moist and delicious the next day. For dessert, we shared the Soufflé Du Jour ($15). It was perfectly made, and a great way to end the meal. Overall, I will definitely be coming back. It's a great spot to dress up with family, friends, or a special celebration. Just make sure to reserve ahead since they can book up quickly.

    Rigatoni with spinach and mushrooms

I was just really hoping for more. We wanted to go out on a lunch date on Valentine's Day. There are very very few high end restaurants open for lunch during the week in CT. We found Union League and having wanted to try it - we decided this would be the perfect opportunity. It was OK but nothing to write home about. The dining room is lovely but they could really use a new chandelier in the center dining room. The modern chandelier just messes with the old classic vibe. It was really an eye sore. We started with 6 oysters on the half shell. They were divine - honestly some of the best we've had but all three sauces that were served with them were nearly frozen solid. I ordered French onion soup - it would have been so delicious but there was not a hint of salt which just ruined the dish. I hate restaurants that don't put salt and pepper on the table. If your food was spot on every single time - that's the only time this should be acceptable. By the time our waiter came back - I was halfway done with my food and the salt never made it to the table by the time I was finished. My husband got the burger which he requested as medium but definitely came out rare. Not that big of a deal. I got the rigatoni with spinach and mushroom, and again - it just sort of fell flat. Could have used some garlic and maybe a hint of pancetta to make it more memorable. Our drinks were delicious! I got a Martini Francais and a French 75. My husband got the fig drink and a glass of wine. The dessert menu looked pretty good but we decided to pass. Would I return? I'm just not sure. With Olea and The Luke in the area (and far far superior) - there would have to be something really special to bring me back to Union League.

I came here with a big group that had a set menu so I can only talk about that. Union League Cafe had been on my list for a while but I'd never had a chance to visit since it's on the fancier end of the price spectrum and vibe. The service was great! Everyone is very attentive and polite. For the food, overall, I thought it was very salty. Not to the point that it was inedible but I was certainly downing a lot of water. Other than the saltiness, the flavours were great. Overall, I'm not sure if I'd go again on my own dime but I'm glad I got to try them.

The restaurant is so classy and chic. I love the decors. Food was incredible. It was mostly French cuisine and everything we ordered was super delicious. Highly recommend the duck breast. Service was okay. We arrived earlier than our reservation time seeing a lot of unclaimed reservations and empty tables. But the hostess asked us if we wanted to sit at the bar. Our waiter was a bit clumsy too. He spilled water on my partner and all over the table. Overall, a good spot for fine dining in New Haven but I don't think I'd come back because of the service.

    Mignardises...
    Thomas F.

The greeting at the front desk, the table for two in the window, the information from our waiter; where have I been all these years in Connecticut without dining here. Don't call the authorities but I am addicted. The pleasure remained throughout the meal. Frigid sparkling water on a hot day started our journey through the menu. Unfortunately we skipped reading the entrées as soon as we found out that duck was on the menu in a new costume and dazzling choreography. We both had the Canard aux Peches with its pearl onions, braised red cabbage, caramelized yellow endives, fresh peaches and carrot crisps. The plating was almost too perfect but I did manage to disarrange everything as I enjoyed all the flavors. We paired this with a perfect Vin Rosé. Almost too full for dessert I ordered the Mignardises and was delighted with each little masterpiece. Staff get ready I will return...

We really loved every bite and there was nothing I wouldn't recommend. I would definitely say to get the bouillabaisse to share, because it's so delicious and filling. My seafood combo dish was $60 and i literally didn't like anything in it, especially the scallop seems immitate crab meat. Clam chowder is watery, lack of clam flavor, idk why they put chips in it, it has 1 clam in shell and that's all. I'll just get the one from whole food. Raw clams and oysters are ok! The best out of everything we ordered was the steak & fries. Steak was made perfect and love the truffle fries. (Or maybe because i was very disappointed at my own seafood dish) So, I won't come back here for any of the seafood.

In a display of restaurant solidarity , they recommended that we try Vinas Wine & Tapas. As it turned out, we have a NEW favorite in New Haven! We arrived a bit early and were cheerfully greeted by Mike G, our server. The atmosphere was welcoming and relatively quiet, since their musical offering does not start as early as our 5:00-7:00 PM time slot on a Tuesday. We had asked for the waiter Christian because he had been mentioned in several of the Yelp reviews, but Mike proved that the service compliments should go to everyone. First, the tapas: We enjoyed all five of the tapas we chose. The "Calamares" were lightly battered and crispy. The Vinas salad was fresh, with tomatoes, cheese, corn, and croutons. The pork belly was delicious and more meaty than expected . The oyster mushrooms were presented with onion crisps. The baked birria empanada was stuffed with brisket style beef. Each of these "courses" was a unique delight to the palate, and for me and my partner, it was completely satisfying. In keeping with the spirit of a "wine bar," Vinas offered a flight of 4 wines in 3 ounce glasses, and after hearing about our food choices and wine preferences, Mike chose the wines for us, giving us a chance to taste some less familiar offerings. We had the Felino Malbec 2024 (Argentina), which became our favorite for its full-bodied and deep flavor. Our second wine was a unique Don Abel (private label) from Wallingford CT, made by one of the relatives of the owner, specially for Vinas. This one reminded us of the local wines one might receive in a B&B in the Loire Valley in France. The final two wines were both from Chile: Reserva Carmenere 2023 and Cabernet Sauvignon Marques de Casa Concha 2022. Both were excellent wines. It was great fun to have Mike choose the wines for us, and we really enjoyed the variety that the flight offerings gave to us. Of course, we had to try a dessert, and Mike recommended the Toffee Cake. We had heard that the owner claimed that some people cried with joy after eating it. Although we restrained ourselves, we had to agree that this was an extraordinary conclusion to a fabulous meal. Overall, this was a great experience for us, and we heartily recommend Vinas Wine Bar and Tapas for a relaxing and welcoming dinner. Some reviews I had read suggested that the portions were too small for the price. I have to disagree. My partner and I love food, and this was plenty. And the price was reasonable. Including tip and tax, we spent about $75 each.

The ceviche was excellent, everything was cooked throughout by the citrus. The portion size is small for $19 and it could have used a side of bread or tortillas to soak up the delicious citrus based broth. The skewers were also excellent. They were cooked perfectly, super tender, juicy and flavorful. They cooked them with a seasoning and had a delicious chimi on top.

I've been wanting to try Manjares for drinks and a bite since I already know how good their baked goods are for breakfast. Tonight was our chance despite traffic jams on the Parkway and snow drifts that makes parking everywhere in New Haven a treasure hunt. Decor is beautiful, ambiance is chill and relaxing. Very reminiscent of Olea without the downtown hustle and bustle. Menu is small yet carefully curated with something for everyone. We came specifically for potatoes bravas, one of our favorites. Saw it on the menu online but was told it was no longer available. Our server, Tabitha, suggested some Yucca fries which was not on the menu but she made a request to the kitchen for us. They were delicious and honestly if they were in the menu we would've ordered that as well. Fried calamari was seasoned and fried to absolutely tender perfection. The coating was light and crispy. My wife loved the aioli and picked onion combo on it. I preferred the lemon. Both of us decided to get a pasta course, bolognese and carbonara. For a non-Italian place to cook both of these dishes with such perfection blew us away. Flavorful bolognese that wasn't drenched in tomato sauce coated the al dente rigatoni perfectly. The carbonara was rich and savory with a little pepper accented by the guanciale. My wife had issues finishing ir and I suggested taking it home. She then finished it out of spite I believe. For $25 each, the pasta dishes were both satisfying without making you feel so full and bloated that you needed a wheelbarrow to get you back to the car. Plenty of food for even the biggest eater. Well worth the money. The attention to depth of flavors was evident. These were not some thrown together pasta dishes. Our compliments to the chef. Tabitha was great. Her cocktails were fantastic.
