Had a really nice experience here, especially thanks to Frankie behind the bar. He was friendly, attentive, and knew the menu and wine list inside and out. The space itself has a cozy ambiance that feels warm and intimate, which makes it a great spot for a date night. The entrance is tucked into a wall of wooden slats and pretty easy to miss, but once you step inside it opens into a welcoming room. The ham and manchego croquetas had good flavor, although the aioli on the bottom was a little heavy. It also had what looked like paprika sprinkled on it. I would have preferred a lighter drizzle with some on the side. The spicy chorizo and freshly carved jamón ibérico were excellent and were definitely the highlights of the meal. I did have a hard time finding a wine that matched my taste, but overall the service, atmosphere, and a couple of standout bites made it a nice visit.

Great spot for either a birthday, date night, girls night out! You have to get tapas, they're all so so good. Hummus was so fresh, the patatas bravas were so so yum (tasted similar to ones I had in Spain). The sangria is also pretty solid! Def get a pitcher if more than 1 person is drinking it. It was a little busy when I went (a Wednesday) and got a little noisy, so if you're looking for intimate/quiet then maybe try somewhere else

Staying at the Omni and there are so many choices within two blocks. Was craving paella and came here. The server, ambiance and decor were nice. The red sangria tasted like they use a European Cabernet in it. The spicy beef empanadas with a red sauce weren't spicy, but were good. Sadly, I was disappointed in the paella. I left out mussels because I don't like the fishy taste. The clams and shrimp were very good but the calamari, especially the tentacles were super fishy. And the sauce was a red sauce, more like an Italian risotto than a saffron paella. Noticed that other patrons were choosing a lot of tapas, which may have been the better way to go. Guess it is just personal preference, but I would give this place 3 1/2 stars as the food was more visually appealing than tasty.

I love coming to Barcelona with my friends whenever we want to just chat and catch up! It's a dimly lit, busy but modern restaurant and I like to try different tapas here. We normally add a paella to share. This is a cute place to host your birthday or a weekend dinner to relax at. Will be coming back!

One of the best tapas spots I've found in the US. We loved a lot of the dishes, especially the croquetas, bacon wrapped dates and patatas bravas. Service was good, the space is very nice. The open kitchen is a nice touch.

My friend and I recently came to Barcelona for dinner and drinks. This was my second time dining here and it was a 5/5 experience! We attended the Night Market and were pleased to be seated right away after being turned away by several other places. Our server was incredibly friendly, helpful, and accommodating. She provided my friend with a GF menu and checked in with us frequently. We ordered a pitcher of their red sangria and three tapas-- potatoes, carrots, and steak. Everything was absolutely delicious and I was pleasantly surprised that our bill was reasonable. I highly recommend Barcelona and will be returning in the future!

Popped in for a couple glasses of wine after dinner. The atmosphere was very nice inside, perfect volume of music and dim, warm lighting. Good cozy feel for a wine bar. The place was packed but we were able to score two seats at the bar. The service was a little weird... one of the bartenders seemed personally insulted by the fact that we were not eating? He kept bringing it up to us and other bartenders, which was just very confusing. A different bartender took over but was not particularly attentive as we sat for too long before she came back to take our order. I had wanted to ask for a recommendation but after the wait I just made a choice. The wine was very good! I ordered a Syrah and then an orange. Both were quite good and had complex flavor profiles. These may actually have been the only good glasses of wine I've had since moving to New Haven. Prices were pretty reasonable. I was tempted to order dessert but was too full, so maybe next time. Overall: great wine, fickle service.

Date of visit: 7/22/2024 Our dinner in New Haven after driving for 3 hrs from Princeton. Decided on this restaurant because we miss Spain tapas. Ordered: - Patatas Bravas: order it! - Gambas Al Ajillo: order it! We had 2 lol - Bocadillos de Tuna: skip it! Bread was dry and filling was meh - Jamon & Manchego Croquetas: order it! - chorizo w/ sweet & sour figs: I guess skip it. figs were too sweet. Chorizo was good. - champiñones: order it! Had sour taste so if you're not into anything sour, proceed to caution. I like it! - paella mariscos (full): it's truly not bad. Few undercooked rice was what ruined it Service was great and attentive. We got great table by the window.

Great experience overall My favorite tapas: Mushroom Meatball Batata brava Things I wished were done differently: The rum sangria was not refreshing and tasted like a sport drink Pulpo was a little chewy

Tied for first place on our own curated "Taste of New Haven" unexpected culinary tour, is Barcelona Wine Bar. Barcelona New Haven, as well as all the other fulfilling restaurants we visited, were just a mere walking distance from our accommodations. On this NH, CT staycation, we went in not fully knowing what to expect and we couldn't have asked for anything more. Knowing we were only coming in for Tapas we decided on our usual bar seating. The atmosphere and aesthetics were modern and glowingly warm, yet chill all at once. Having the open kitchen concept directly in our sights, gave us a glimpse of the brigade prepping tickets on the occasional burst of flames. An added plus to the bustling, chill atmosphere. Chatting it up a bit with the friendly bartenders, we finally decided on the Patatas Bravas, plus the Charcuterie 3. The puffy cubes of crispy Patatas were smothered with a rich aioli providing some satisfying goodness. The Charcuterie and Bravas were a hit. Barcelona Wine Bar New Haven being one of a group of several throughout the U.S. did not disappoint. We can easily say this location confidently earned its first place tie on our "Taste of New Haven".

What a fun & classy scene to spend a chilly night! I was here for work, and my friend introduced me to one of his favorite locations in New Haven. I can't believe I've never had Spanish cuisine until that night! Despite being known for their tapas, I ordered a paella dish because I've never had paella before. Absolute yum! The rice base was soft, yet flavorful. There was plenty of seafood throughout too! The half dish is plenty for 1 person and costs $28 - pretty reasonable for a seafood heavy dish! The place was quite busy for a Wed night, but service was quick and attentive during our dining experience there. Our server made the experience all the more memorable given my very short visit to New Haven!

Barcelona is a tapas lover's dream--it's almost impossible to choose what to share because everything looks so good! We opted for a mix-and-match charcuterie with chorizo and two cheeses, paired with warm, crusty bread that's perfectly soft inside. While the cocktails are tempting, the wine steals the show here. And whatever you do, don't skip dessert! The warm olive oil cake, with its delicate sweetness and touch of sea salt, is pure perfection--especially with a pour of ruby port.

Came here while visiting New Haven from New York City, and heard that this place was one of the places to go. I actually really enjoyed my meal here, and would recommend a few of their dishes more than the others. The queso Blanco was actually quite nice and very savory with some depth. The sweetness of the berries has wonderfully with the salty cheese. The carrots were also deliciously, tender and warm. The empanadas were also flaky and soft. I would skip the olives because they were kind of ordinary, unless you love olives. They do give you a quite a bit though. It's a large space and the service was great. It's only lit inside, but also very lively. They have a large bar in the middle of the restaurant for you to sit out as well. Overall, if you're in the area would recommend.

The best out of everything we ordered was the steak & fries. Steak was made perfect and love the truffle fries. In a display of restaurant solidarity , they recommended that we try Vinas Wine & Tapas. As it turned out, we have a NEW favorite in New Haven! We arrived a bit early and were cheerfully greeted by Mike G, our server. The atmosphere was welcoming and relatively quiet, since their musical offering does not start as early as our 5:00-7:00 PM time slot on a Tuesday. We had asked for the waiter Christian because he had been mentioned in several of the Yelp reviews, but Mike proved that the service compliments should go to everyone. First, the tapas: We enjoyed all five of the tapas we chose. The "Calamares" were lightly battered and crispy. The Vinas salad was fresh, with tomatoes, cheese, corn, and croutons. The pork belly was delicious and more meaty than expected . The oyster mushrooms were presented with onion crisps. The baked birria empanada was stuffed with brisket style beef. Each of these "courses" was a unique delight to the palate, and for me and my partner, it was completely satisfying. In keeping with the spirit of a "wine bar," Vinas offered a flight of 4 wines in 3 ounce glasses, and after hearing about our food choices and wine preferences, Mike chose the wines for us, giving us a chance to taste some less familiar offerings. We had the Felino Malbec 2024 (Argentina), which became our favorite for its full-bodied and deep flavor. Our second wine was a unique Don Abel (private label) from Wallingford CT, made by one of the relatives of the owner, specially for Vinas. This one reminded us of the local wines one might receive in a B&B in the Loire Valley in France. The final two wines were both from Chile: Reserva Carmenere 2023 and Cabernet Sauvignon Marques de Casa Concha 2022. Both were excellent wines. It was great fun to have Mike choose the wines for us, and we really enjoyed the variety that the flight offerings gave to us. Of course, we had to try a dessert, and Mike recommended the Toffee Cake. We had heard that the owner claimed that some people cried with joy after eating it. Although we restrained ourselves, we had to agree that this was an extraordinary conclusion to a fabulous meal. Overall, this was a great experience for us, and we heartily recommend Vinas Wine Bar and Tapas for a relaxing and welcoming dinner. Some reviews I had read suggested that the portions were too small for the price. I have to disagree. My partner and I love food, and this was plenty. And the price was reasonable. Including tip and tax, we spent about $75 each.

I've been wanting to try Manjares for drinks and a bite since I already know how good their baked goods are for breakfast. Tonight was our chance despite traffic jams on the Parkway and snow drifts that makes parking everywhere in New Haven a treasure hunt. Decor is beautiful, ambiance is chill and relaxing. Very reminiscent of Olea without the downtown hustle and bustle. Menu is small yet carefully curated with something for everyone. We came specifically for potatoes bravas, one of our favorites. Saw it on the menu online but was told it was no longer available. Our server, Tabitha, suggested some Yucca fries which was not on the menu but she made a request to the kitchen for us. They were delicious and honestly if they were in the menu we would've ordered that as well. Fried calamari was seasoned and fried to absolutely tender perfection. The coating was light and crispy. My wife loved the aioli and picked onion combo on it. I preferred the lemon. Both of us decided to get a pasta course, bolognese and carbonara. For a non-Italian place to cook both of these dishes with such perfection blew us away. Flavorful bolognese that wasn't drenched in tomato sauce coated the al dente rigatoni perfectly. The carbonara was rich and savory with a little pepper accented by the guanciale. My wife had issues finishing ir and I suggested taking it home. She then finished it out of spite I believe. For $25 each, the pasta dishes were both satisfying without making you feel so full and bloated that you needed a wheelbarrow to get you back to the car. Plenty of food for even the biggest eater. Well worth the money. The attention to depth of flavors was evident. These were not some thrown together pasta dishes. Our compliments to the chef. Tabitha was great. Her cocktails were fantastic. Luckily, they had just opened, so we were seated upon arrival. We got two pies: the Clam Casino and the Portrait of New Haven. The PoNH was good. The ricotta was a nice contrast to the sausage and red peppers. The Clam Casino was worth the journey by itself, however. It turns out clams on a pizza is a great idea. Large whole clams and bacon with cherry peppers? Damned right. I wasn't familiar with New Haven brand ("apizza" as I've now been told), but the char on the bottom from the wood-fired oven is crucial at holding some topping combinations to a higher echelon than others (where it deflates others): see the other-worldly good Clam Casino versus this-could-be-better-without Portrait of New Haven. Regardless, the Clam Casino would be a go-to if I lived anywhere near here. The inside is huge. We sat in the main barroom.
