Chacra is one of the go-to nightlife locations in Downtown New Haven. I had the pleasure of working with Chacra to host a community event here and they did not disappoint! The food was amazing, the manager, Walter, was extremely easy to work with and all the staff members were super accommodating and helped bring our vision to life! They have an incredible outdoor dining space, complete with a covered outdoor patio and very spacious back yard area with an outdoor bar. They also have fire pits, equipment for outdoor music, and ample seating options. Can't wait to go back!

Lomo saltado Best dish of the night! So Flavorful!

An impromptu visit to a new spot we had not seen since our visit last year, and it did not disappoint! We are fans of Peruvian food, and we have a couple of favorites back in Los Angeles. However, the places we often visit do not have a bar like this, with reasonably priced well drinks that were absolutely done right and tasted so good, it left me wanting more. Now, add in the cuisine, good conversation, very friendly and attentive staff, and you have a recipe for success! We started out with the papas huacaina which were just ok, followed it up with the Classico ceviche, which was full of a lime flavor balanced just right and complimented with the sweetness from the plantains. And finally, the Lomo Saltado - just wow!! Each meal kept improving on the prior dish and the lomo saltado was probably the best we ever had! Highly recommend this place, and I'm almost positive that once you try it you will become instant fans too! A great meal for two on a date night with several dishes and several drinks for a reasonable $100. Will definitely be back. Gracias!!

Chacra is an authentic Peruvian restaurant and Pisco bar that opened in New Haven, Connecticut in September 2022. It was founded by restaurateur Walter "Jefferson" Vera. A presence in the New Haven food scene for 20 years, Vera began as a server before rising the ranks to become a restaurant manager. For a number of years, he was the manager at nearby Pacifico (a popular Latin-American fusion restaurant) and later Barcelona Wine Bar. Chacra is the first venture where Vera is the owner and proprietor. It also has the distinction of being the only Peruvian restaurant in downtown New Haven. The menu features classic Peruvian dishes, including nine types of ceviche. The bar menu places emphasis on pisco: a type of brandy that's native to the winemaking regions of Peru and Chile. I was recently invited to Chacra to attend an exclusive tasting event for local foodie influencers. This was my first visit to Chacra as well as my first time sampling authentic Peruvian cuisine. I was not at all familiar with pisco, so everyone recommended that I order a classic "Pisco Sour" (pisco, fresh lime juice, jarabe de goma, egg whites, angostura bitters). The sourness was balanced out by the sweet, fruity notes; I really enjoyed every sip. For food, the group was treated to a variety of different plates such as "Papas a la Huancaina", "Lomo Saltado Empanadas", "Clasico Ceviche", and "Chicharron con Yuca". Everything was so delicious! For a second cocktail, I opted for the "Barbuja" (pisco, fresh lime juice, passion fruit, jarabe de goma, prosecco dropped). This was a nice change from my previous cocktail. For dessert, the group was served sweet treats such as "De La Selva", "Helado Lucuma" and "Arroz con Leche". Helpful staff, beautiful plate presentation, and a phenomenal feast!! Everyone was so full by the end. I look forward to returning with my family! Thank you to Chacra for the wonderful experience!

I had high hopes when my husband made reservations at Chacra Pisco Bar for Valentine's Day. However, the experience got off to a rocky start when the person seating us barely acknowledged us. I just gave my name and he stared at his tablet in silence before I prompted that we were likely first on the list. In a standoffish tone he replied "I know" and led us to a cramped table in the very back, right by the bathroom and high traffic bar area. Once we got our actual waiter, the service greatly improved. He warmly presented us the Valentine's Day menu and let us know we could also order from the regular menu. The drinks from the cocktail-savvy bartender were excellent - her virgin Mojitos and Moscow Mules were perfectly balanced. The food was hit or miss. The empanadas with the creamy dipping sauce were sublime. My husband loved his lomo saltado. My salmon la haucaina was unfortunately overly salty, so I could only manage a small bite. However, the side of quinoa, potatoes, spinach and tomatoes was fantastic. Dessert is where things totally fell apart. The flan tasted so off that I immediately spit it out. My tres leches cake could have doubled as a hockey puck - when I tapped it with my spoon, it made a hard thud against the plate. It was dry and flavorless inside. I had to chase my first bite with water. We informed our apologetic waiter about the tres leches. He went to the same person who sat us about our concern, and he brushed it off. he asked for a suggestion from another coworker, and she suggested to offer us another dessert. Unfortunately, with our experience with both desserts we just named that it was just feedback and we were OK with the check. I am still happy that they at least tried to make that right buy us. So in summary - inconsistent service, drinks and empanadas were excellent, some dishes shone while others disappointed, and desserts were downright inedible. I wanted to love Chacra for Valentine's Day but the uneven execution means I likely won't return.

Excellent Peruvian food! We got the special which allowed us to try multiple dishes. Lots of flavor. Inviting atmosphere with great interior decor. Lomo saltado was $30 the drinks were like $13+. The place seemed smaller than I imagined but it had a clash atmosphere. Food was full of flavor and attentive servers.

Don't trust the sign outside. It does not reflect when happy hour exists inside. Margarita was good but 2x the suggested price.

Food was hot, delicious and presented well. Service was delightful. Ambiance was unique. I love the tree design in the center and you're able to watch the cooks a little.

Ceviche y chaufas were very good, causa limeña wasn't the best i've tried. Very pricey considering the portions are small.

Mac and cheese was eh, really liquidy as well. I did really like the crispy mushroom risotto tater tots. They tasted just like tater tots. As we were getting to our last bites and still eating, at least three different staff members within a matter of a minute asked if we're were done and could take our plates away. I would have given this place four stars had we not been bombarded at the end of our dinner. It felt like we were being rushed out even though there were tons of tables and seats still available. Left a bad taste in my mouth.

The best out of everything we ordered was the steak & fries. Steak was made perfect and love the truffle fries. (Or maybe because i was very disappointed at my own seafood dish) So, I won't come back here for any of the seafood.

The new England chowder was water down, even taste a bit sour...(That's strange for clam chowder).. someone dropped a lemon by mistake? .. Fried scallops and fried clam strip no longer taste the same, not as fresh and sweet. Scallops texture is kinda hard to describe but different. .. Don't try the bathroom out there, not very nice. We didn't eat all the food and relatives are not happy with the meal ... So after sharing the feedback they kindly gave us a seafood chowder (thank you)..... The soup is creamy and better than the clam chowder although the seafood is overcooked. We missed the good version clam chowder here ... We are just very disappointed about the change of quality although i understand it's hard to keep the consistency.

It's situated right across from the beach and they have their own parking lot which is always a plus. It's got a pirate theme going on and there's pirate-related decor all over the place. Definitely feels like a hole in the wall. I went around 5PM and the place was pretty busy. Plenty of patrons eating outside and a bunch more waiting to take their orders to-go. Actually, technically every order is a to-go order. You go up to the counter and order what you want and they give you a buzzer that lets you know when your food is ready. Whether you choose to sit at the tables outside is up to you. But everything comes packaged in takeout containers. Service was quick and friendly. CASH ONLY. They do have an ATM though. I ordered a lobster roll, soft shell crab sandwich, clam chowder, and lobster bisque. Everything was pretty good but the sandwiches were a bit pricey. On the menu they're listed as market price and apparently lobster rolls were $22 and soft shell crab sandwiches were $17 that day. We had the soups first since they were ready immediately. The lobster bisque was ok, but a bit too creamy for my taste. I found myself tiring of the taste after several spoonfuls. I much preferred the clam chowder. It had a great consistency and it was served at a perfect temperature. The flavor was on point as well. I really enjoyed the clam chowder. The lobster roll was good, but not great. To be fair, I'm not a huge fan of lobster so take my opinion with a grain of salt. The lobster was fresh, but I found it to be a little bland. I got the sauteed roll, maybe I should've tried the fried. I really liked the soft shell crab sandwich. It literally looked like they took a whole crab and deep fried it then put it in a bun. It worked though. I especially liked it with the tartar sauce. If you're a fan of seafood, you'll like this place.

I came on a Wednesday for the $17.99 lobster roll special and it was easily one of the best I've ever had. It is a quarter pound of lobster and you get actual lumps of claw and meat rather than the shredded stuff some other places serve. The butter it's sautéed in is seasoned delicately to accentuate the fresh lobster instead of covering up the taste. The portion was surprisingly large and it comes on a fresh bun that is lightly buttered and toasted. It even comes with a little cup of extra butter which I totally slathered on because I love butter! Every bite was so fresh and soft. The roll comes with fries and I did the optional $5 upcharge for the lobster bisque. That was also the best I've ever had because I've never seen bisque with such large chunks of lobster in it. It was just crazy good. Everything was well worth the price and I'd honestly come back even on days when it's not a special. They have something going on every night like the $9.99 burger and fries on Mondays, so that will definitely be my next reason to visit. I will be back for sure!

Atmosphere/Appearance: Set right on the busy State Street is this gem. There's no private parking, but plenty of comfortable, spacious street parking right out front. Once inside you're immersed in a very fine-dining, elegant, laid-back atmosphere. Lots of woods, intimate-low lighting and upbeat music. I loved the vibes in here. The first room is your bar room where the rail is off to the left, but with plenty of seating to the right. If you continue through the room you enter the main dining room where it's all booths and other tables. Service: Stacey was our server. Things got off to a bit of a rocky start, but they smoothed out throughout the brunch. Food/Drinks: The mimosa was okay... It was REALLY strong because there's orange vodka and orange liqueur in it. It kinda killed the flavor for me because I'd prefer a traditional mimosa with minimal juice, but... no matter. They're bottomless... or supposed to be... Just be mindful of who your server is. Brunch can consist of a prix-fixed menu, which is what we did so we'll be going through that. First up were the Homemade Sausage Gravy and biscuits. These were super smothered and fantastic. Hot, savory, meaty, salty and even had a bit of a subtle sweetness. The biscuit was soft, butter and had crispy edges. Next up were the Cinnamon Rolls. These were HUGE. Lol. Like, how are we supposed to eat AND drink all of this stuff?! The exterior of the roll was crispy and the inside very soft. Not over-the-top sweetness or anything. These were very balanced. Next up were the Bananas Foster Pancakes. But this thing was enormous. It was so thick, like literally an inch thick. Lol. Fresh bananas sliced right on top, it cut like butter, was soft with the perfect crispy edges and these were AMAZING. Punch of sweetness up front, fluffy texture and just a great pancake. For dinner, this restaurant usually serves Cast Iron Popcorn instead of bread, so Stacey let us try it! It was smokey, a little-little sweet with a little bit of salt and maybe a hickory barbecue flavor. I liked it. Lastly, I chose the Steak & Eggs over Salmon & Eggs, but got to try both since my wife was with me. Each comes with gigantic fried potatoes, 3 eggs, a piece of toast, caramelized onions and your protein of choice. My steak was cooked perfectly (medium-rare). The flavors were excellent. It was a little fatty and just was done very well. Value: $64.96 for bottomless mimosas and the prix-fixe menu. Probably the best value brunch in the state. SO MUCH FOOD and strong drinks. I don't know what else you'd want! In conclusion, I really enjoyed myself here and have revisited since my first time! Everything was just as awesome as the first. Check this place out if you're in the area!
