The search for the best pizza in New Haven still rages on with BAR. This is my favorite thus far with creative pies. The white clam casino pie was fantastic with just the perfect amount of crunchiness and giant clams. The thanksgiving pie is interesting with stuffing, mashed potatoes, turkey and cranberry sauce. It's such a fun combo for pizzas. The space is huge and beautifully decorated with different theme rooms. My only complaint is that the wait once you place the orders can be quite long. However, it was a Sunday, so I am sure there was a long queue of pizza orders.

Always a great time at BAR! I've been here many times, some times just for pizza and other times to dance! This past time I have been here, my partner and I were served by Stevie! He was so kind and attentive, honestly the best server! Out of all the pizzas I've had, I would recommend the bacon mashed potato pizza. It is the most unique/New Haven classic! Out out all the apizza places, BAR has the best potato pizza. I also love their classic margarita. If you want something unique, try the elote apizza. Past 9pm they start charging cover for the night bar. They also start selling pizza by the slice for only $4-$5. Super worth it! Past 10pm on weekends, the lines get long so I recommend going earlier.

BAR in Downtown New Haven is a must-stop every time I'm in town. Their mashed potato, bacon, garlic pizza is perfection!!! flavor stacked on flavor. It's the only place I've ever seen make it, and it's hands down one of my all-time favorites. Wanna see more from my visit? Bar pizza is a tier below the OG spots in New Haven. Got the regular bacon garlic and also tried the corn pizza which everyone loved. My issue with this pizza as I felt it was way too thin and it was cracker like. However the pizzas are still pretty good.

Welcome to CT! So the word on the streets is, Connecticut Pizza IS AMAZING and I must say, I agree! There is a difference in the way the crust is made and care have been placed in creating the toppings! The service was phenomenal and the ambiance was pretty chill, loud of course, because it's THE BAR, but the vibe is giving complete happiness! If you're in town, it's mandatory to stop in for a slice or two of THE BARs pizza!

Was quite busy when we went but we were able to snag chairs at the bar where you can order from the same food menu. We got the mashed potato pizza which is nice and creamy but does get a little one dimensional after a few slices. Thankfully we also got a bowl of salad which came out in a huge serving!

Had a great time at BAR's pizza. The Mashed Potato & Bacon pizza was unique and flavorful - the mashed potatoes were fluffy and creamy and I'm glad we tried it! The Buff Chick pizza came with buffalo chicken, blue cheese and jalapeños on a white pizza which had a nice kick. The restaurant had a dimly lit ambiance. Service was friendly and our pizzas came out quickly despite it being quite busy inside.

Bar has yet to disapoint me with their unique takes on New Haven Apizza. This time I came in to try the seasonal lobster pie and this may be one of my new favorite pizzas it was so delicious. The buttery garlic base mixed with the cheese and tender lobster was to die for all on the classic new haven thin crust - I am still dreaming of it. We also ordered the margarita pizza as a safe classic option which I thought was just okay. It was super busy the day we came by so ended up having to take the pizza to go, but the inside ambiance is a super modern take a firewood pizza bar which I love. Definitely give the lobster pizza a try before they take it off the menu!

    Margherita and Buffalo Chicken Pizza

Dipping my toes into New Haven Pizza, and I'm not sure this the right place to base my feelings on. My cocktail was Strawberry Rhubarb Pie, and while delicious had no rhubarb anything. It was basically a strawberry vanilla cocktail. Poorly named. The pizza...well the margherita pizza was awful. The thickness of the tomato made it impossible to eat. We grabbed our slices (the pizzas are placed on a stand by the table so you have to reach over and slide them onto your plate. No utensils to help) and all the toppings slid off. It was not due to them being too hot, but the weight of the tomatoes and how much water they produced made the pizza sloppy and wet. The sauce was watery as a result of the tomato as well. Overall avoid this pizza as much as possible. The buffalo chicken pizza was better. These toppings managed to stay on the pizza. But the thinness of the crust just isn't conducive to the amount of toppings you get. The chicken and the bleu cheese was good, the olives and jalapeño added a nice kick. But I wouldn't come back just for this pizza. The vibe is cool I guess. It's right next to a frat house, empty kegs and trash outside to match.

    Thanksgiving Pie - Small

I would give BAR 5 stars just for their food, but we unfortunately didn't have the best experience there when we went for lunch yesterday. We went past 1pm and were fortunately seated right away. The atmosphere was cool, with a cozy, industrial Brooklyn vibe, with high ceilings. The pizza trays are so large you do have to squeeze through to get to your table or be seated. We ordered the following to share: - BAR Salad (Bowl) - Thanksgiving Pie (Small) The BAR salad came within several minutes of ordering and was quite large--we ordered a Bowl ($26+), but a Plate ($14.50+) probably would be sufficient for 2 people, if you're also planning to eat pizza. I loved the combination of the seasonal greens, sliced pears, caramelized pecans and crumbled blue cheese with a light vinaigrette dressing. I'm not a huge fan of blue cheese, but this one wasn't overpowering and the other flavors stood out more. The problem was after the salad. After over 20 min, our pizza still hadn't arrived. Our server came by telling us it would be coming "soon." 10 min later, still no pizza. Finally, 45 min after ordering (40 min after our salad), the pizza finally came. Good thing we'd ordered salad--or else, we would've had no food for 45 min. Because it came so late, I ate more salad than I normally would have and could only eat one slice of the pizza. I loved the Thanksgiving pizza and would have had more if it had it not taken so long. The Thanksgiving pizza had mozzarella, hand mashed potatoes, brick oven cooked turkey stuffing, gravy and cranberry. Because their crust is so thin, the pizza wasn't too heavy and the combination of all of the toppings was just right. My boyfriend thought it was too much to put on such a thin crust, but I loved it. They did adjust our bill for us, which made the experience more redeeming. I would like to try other seasonal pies, but maybe just for takeout.

My friends and I came to try the mashed potato pizza and were originally told there would be an hour wait. We put our name down for a table but realized the bar to the left also serves food, so we were able to snag a couple seats and eat a lot quicker. We got a bowl of the bar salad and were surprised when it came out in a large mixing bowl. It could easily serve 6 people! Then the pizza came and we had a great time carb loading. I got a blueberry pie cider to wash it all down - tasted like blueberries with a pie crust aftertaste. It was super strange but it grew on me by the end of the meal!

First visit was by chance. The smell carried over to the next street. Followed my nose, and was delighted! Beer tanks and rustic garage setting, wood fired ovens and tasty thin sheet pizza, with a list of add-on toppings gives great opportunity to create a flavor of your liking. Servers move briskly and two of us ate the whole half sheet with every belief we couldn't. Just couldn't stop ourselves. Worth the hour and half drive!!

I have been here several times both to eat in person with friends and family and to order take out. I have always walked away impressed and happy every time. Tonight I took my parents who are visiting from out of town. The ambiance was great as we were seated in a private booth. My mom especially admired watching the magic happen in the open kitchen. We ordered 2 medium sized pizzas: #1 half mashed potato and bacon and half the herbivore and #2 half original clam and half clam casino. You are welcome to order half and half as long as the base is the same (red vs. white). Additionally, I ordered a sangria. The pizzas were amazing and delicious. This is definitely one of my favorite pizza places in New Haven and I highly recommend!

We waited in line 20-30 minutes, but it flew by as we chatted away. Once we were seated, service was quick and friendly. The menu isn't super extensive in terms of appetizers (they have two salads and a burrata); the main attraction is pizza! So pizza it was. All pizzas are offered in a small (12''), medium, and large size. I ordered a small Calabrese and it was plenty. The pie was slightly bigger than 12'' and at first I thought I'd eat it all because it's thin crust. Negative. I ate half of it and was stuffed. My pizza had pieces of flat sausage, (little) pepperoni, and Calabrian peppers, which were definitely on the spicy side. As for the toppings, I appreciated that they didn't skimp out on them, which was the same for my other friends' own pies. Frank Pepe has two locations next to each other. One is their original building, which is usually for Yale-out only, though they have limited seating (you have to be ushered in from the line that forms at the main building). This place is small, unapologetic, and full of character. Decorative firewood stacked with intention, walls filled with wine corks, and #10 tomato cans repurposed as pizza stands. Walk in and you immediately catch the vibe, exposed brick, distressed plaster, a slightly industrial, almost factory-style feel that somehow still feels warm and welcoming. The centerpiece of the room is the wood-fired oven, running hot and glowing with that perfect orange flame. The aroma of burning wood hits you right away and sets the tone. From that moment on, the culinary experience is in motion. We ordered The Mootz and Breaking My Meatballs. Both pies are built on a very thin, tender crust with beautiful leoparding. The dough is flavorful and clearly well-fermented. Sauce is applied with restraint, just enough to support the dough and cheese without overpowering them, and it delivers a clean, bright tomato flavor. Breaking My Meatballs was the standout. Homemade meatballs, herbed ricotta, cherry peppers, mozzarella, and that same balanced sauce. The cherry peppers bring a sharp vinegar tang that cuts perfectly through the richness of the ricotta and meatballs. Every bite hits a different note, and it all works together. Easily one of my favorites. The crust across the board was thin and tender with a delicate smoky char from the wood fire, exactly what you want from this style. Bottom line: Great spot. Kwok has more than 20 years experience in the hospitality industry. Kwok and Nguyen's latest venture opened at the Connecticut Post Mall in a restaurant space that was previously home to Cast Iron Chef Kitchen & Bar, which specialized in tavern-style pizzas cooked in a cast-iron skillet. 8 Thousand Pizza offers this same style of pizza, but what sets them apart from the previous pizzeria is that they also offer self-pouring technology, which became legalized in Connecticut in 2021. The food menu features two dozen tavern-style pizzas as well as burgers, wings, fries, salads and soups. Through the use of a supplied electronic bracelet, customers can self-pour their own beverage from a selection of 28 craft beer taps and 6 wine taps. There's a two-pint or 32-ounce limit for the self-pours. I recently visited 8 Thousand Pizza for dinner. I had previously visited the space when it was Cast Iron Chef Kitchen & Bar and was sad to hear that they moved. However, this new business concept of a tavern-style pizzeria with self-pouring taps sounded very interesting to me. This was actually my first visit to a self-pouring taproom, as these types of establishments only just began opening in the state in the last few years. After looking over the menu, I decided to order the "Grandma's Tomato Pizza" (fresh mozzarella, tomato sauce, roasted garlic, tomatoes and EVOO) and the "Hot Honey Pepperoni Pizza" (tomato sauce, pepperoni, hot honey sauce and mozzarella cheese). The latter happens to be 8 Thousand's signature pizza. Both pizzas had crust so thin that it's almost cracker like; they didn't flop at all. They were super crispy with excellent sauce and toppings. I honestly can't decide which one I liked better; they were both very good. During my visit, I enjoyed some self-pours of Grey Sail Brewing's "Captain's Daughter" (Double New England IPA) and New Park Brewing's "Cloudscape" (American IPA). My server was friendly and helpful, and then another employee arrived who seemed like she might have been a manager of some type. She became involved with working with a different person to check the sound system. Over the course of about 10 minutes, they frequently changed the volume and what was playing on the stereo. At times, it was unbearably loud. At first, I didn't say anything, because I assumed it was just going to be a minute or so. But it didn't stop, and after 10 minutes, I finally spoke up and said that their testing the stereo was affecting my enjoyment of my lunch. They stopped testing the stereo after I said something. I had been looking forward to my meal there for a couple of days, and I did not enjoy my experience. A nice restaurant like Rawa should not put a customer in the position of having to advocate for a reasonable atmosphere. I just saw Instagram content that leads me to believe that Rawa is going in a new creative direction. The event manager spoke of upcoming events like a yoga experience and a couple of other things. I'm sure there will be people who may enjoy this new direction, but that's not what I've enjoyed about Rawa in my prior visits. In any event, if you go to Rawa, you should be aware that it may not be how you remember. I'm downgrading my rating to 3 Stars in light of my experience.
