How this is not higher than a 4.0 is beyond me! This is the most scrumptious perfect pizza of my life!!!

Loved the pizza here! My table agreed that we prefer the pizza here instead of Pepe's or Sally's. No need to stand in a long line outside, just make a reservation. Plus they offer a gluten free crust. We ordered the meat pizza and the fig pizza. Both delicious either way a crunchy and chewy crust. The gluten free crust was nice and chewy. The shaved fennel salad was just ok. We expected more fennel but it was mainly an arugula salad topped with fennel. Dressing was very light. Cute place with a nice bar and patio seating!

This review is for the Hoax Brewery located in Da Legna at NOLO and NOLO. NOLO is a restaurant that is known for pizza. They make wood fired thin crust pizza; the type of dough they use is sourdough. The beer is brewed by Hoax Brewing and you can see the beer canisters when you first walk in. There is a parking lot and patio area. The restaurant was chic and trendy. We stopped in on a whim just to try the beers on a Saturda afternoon. The place was packed so it's best if you book reservations. Since we were only getting beer, they let us use the empty table up front. The hosts and servers were very nice and accommodating. I'm a sour beer fan so I tried two of the beers; 1. Raspberry toasted marshmallow sleight of hand: it has hints of raspberry, chocolate, and marshmallow; a very tasty beer! Definitely would order this again and loved the marshmallow flavor, it's unique when it's in beer format. 2. Tropic Thunder: it has notes of raspberry, pineapple, banana, and guava. It was good and reminded me of summertime. The pizza looked and smelled so good from afar but we were getting dinner elsewhere. Next time, I look forward to trying the pizza out!

My daughter and I visited Nolo because we had heard so much about it. We entered the establishment and were seated right away. The service was a bit off initially, but our server was great. We ordered a Pepperoni pizza, which came out in about twenty minutes. The pizza was okay. The Pepperoni gave the taste of Ellio's pizza. The pizza had flopped, and the sauce was okay. The sauce had somewhat of a flavor but overall a basic regular sauce. I'm glad we got to try the pizza, and our server provided good service.

Inside ambiance is nice and they have their own private lot. As someone who loves NY pizza, this pizza is was a little tart for me and could have been cooked a tad longer, but if you like tart sauce, you'll love this place.

Waaaaaay back when, I ate pizza at Da Legna at its old location. I had a favorable impression, but there's a lot of good pizza in the New Haven area and I live closer to Hartford. So years passed without me eating at Da Legna. All the sudden, I started seeing references to "Da Legna at Nolo" or "Da Legna x Nolo". Admittedly, I had no idea what was going on. What was Nolo? A Boutique Hotel? A bar? Another restaurant? And why was Da Legna at Nolo? Arms length business transaction? Corporate takeover? Happy coincidence? I visited today, and in case you're confused, here is what I have. Nolo is a modern "non-hotel" building, sort of near September in Bangkok. It used to be something called Jet Cleaners. Sounds like a dry cleaner, but I'm not that far into my investigation yet. Nolo houses both the re-located Da Legna pizza business and Hoax Brewing. Hoax Beers are served at Nolo. There is a bar. Two wood burning pizza ovens, plenty of seating. Table and bar service. And you can sit right in front of the open kitchen and watch them make pizza. Mystery solved. I ordered a Hoax "Sorry for the Delay" IPA (it was good) and a 16 inch The State, which was basically like a Supreme at a lot of places. Da Legna pizzas are made in wood burning ovens. Among the New Haven pizza places that people often talk about, Da Legna probably has the first or second chewiest and least crispy pizza. It's either Zeneli or Da Legna. Da Legna's crust also has char though. So it's sort of a New Haven and Neapolitan hybrid. The toppings were high quality. The mushrooms looked fresh. The pepperoni, bacon and sausage were tasty. The cheese was good. A good pizza, if you like a chewy and non-crispy crust. I liked this pizza. Service was friendly. The space was cool. I'm comfortable recommending Da Legna, but I prefer some other places in New Haven. 4.25 Stars

Delicious variety in pizza. We came about two hours before the kitchen closed. Couldn't decide on the pizza, ended up with a few big pins. We were a group of 7 - so full with leftovers towards the end of the night. Beautiful, big space with chill vibes. Worth the visit. Friendly service, huge parking lots, all payments accepted.

Popped in here on the way home from Boston, and it was a worthwhile stop! The space itself is rather large, with outdoor seating as well as bar seats and tables. We sat at the bar and were welcomed right away from the friendly bartender. We ordered the clam pie and the margerita and added on peppers and spinach. The pies were delicious with a thin charred crust. We also ordered the ice cream sandwich for dessert and it was absolutely massive and worth sharing with someone. I would definitely come back here again the next time I'm in New Haven!

Flexing that New Haven pizza muscle, the region must welcome the newest kid on the Block (at least new to me), Nolo.. This spot has easily entered the top five New Haven pizza places for me this year. Having visited their location a few times and also experiencing their pizza offsite. I will say this place is consistent and creative and absolutely delicious. Not only do they turn out some of the best New Haven style pizza, but their cocktails are top-notch as well. I don't know if I have a pizza favor yet because every time I turn around there's something new but stay tuned for an updated review if I can make up my mind in the future lol. Highly recommend visiting their location. It's a cool vibe and you won't be disappointed.

Da Legna is sooo good, and more slept on compared to other New Haven pizza. I've never had to wait long to be seated and the menu is fun. I had the patate pizza and it was fantastic - the Gouda and corn made it so uniquely delicious. Inside is chill and laid-back and the booth is really comfortable. When folks ask me for my NH pizza option, I send them here. I can't wait to go back.

Originally wanted to go to Moderns, but line was too long. Decided to head to Bar, but then stumbled upon this place. I recall the name, ate at their prior location. The cheese pizza was great , solid 8.8

Solo freezing patron at the bar..... taking pizza to go...probably a better idea to just eat it in the car...

Super cool layout. Beautiful decor love the space. However, came in for dinner on Wednesday night. It's November and it's probably 45° inside the restaurant absolutely freezing. All the patrons have their jackets not only on but zipped to the top. The marble bar is so cold you can't rest your arm on it. I've never experienced anything like this before . Not sure if their heat is broken, but it's unbearable And most likely gonna leave. Yes I'm aware that your ovens are vented and pull outside air in however if you can't afford to heat your house, you have no business owning one. So decided to weather it out and stay ordered some hot tea freezing order a Hawaiian pizza against their philosophy can't win for losing at this place. Definitely do not recommend. Hopefully it doesn't get any worse from here.

We are vacationing nearby and decided we had to try New Haven apizza! We chose Da Legna x NOLO because they have wonderful gluten free, vegetarian, vegan, and omnivore selections! They also offer several of their signature cocktails without alcohol if you prefer! Our party of five is made of gluten free omnivores, a gluten free vegetarian, a vegetarian, and an omnivore. All of us enjoyed our choices! We also tried a London Fog mocktail; it was delicious. We had a Clark St 16" pizza with eggplant, tomatoes, ricotta, and basil. It was a traditional New Haven apizza with several charred areas on the crust! Delicious! We also ordered a 12" gluten free Pecora with ricotta, carmelized onions, pistachios, and truffle oil! Magnificent! Our third pie was a Broccoli Rabe with sausage and cheese. Excellently tart and savory, showcasing both the broccoli rabe and the sausage. The gluten free among us are intolerant, not celiac. This is not a dedicated gluten free kitchen. BUT the crusts are made elsewhere in a dedicated gluten free kitchen. The staff are super friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. The ambiance is cool, with a relaxed vibe! The velvet semi-circular booth benches are so unique! The overhead lightening shaped lights are cool! The pies are reasonably priced, especially for their size and generous toppings! The pies appear on your table hot and fresh in mere minutes! Service is amazingly fast! Thank you so much to all the pizzaliers (pronounced like gondolier) working those white hot ovens!

I had scoured Eater's New Haven section earlier that day and seen BAR mentioned for where to get apizza. We traveled into the quaint-ish New Haven core and parked on the street. Luckily, they had just opened, so we were seated upon arrival. We got two pies: the Clam Casino and the Portrait of New Haven. The PoNH was good. The ricotta was a nice contrast to the sausage and red peppers. The Clam Casino was worth the journey by itself, however. It turns out clams on a pizza is a great idea. Large whole clams and bacon with cherry peppers? Damned right. I wasn't familiar with New Haven brand ("apizza" as I've now been told), but the char on the bottom from the wood-fired oven is crucial at holding some topping combinations to a higher echelon than others (where it deflates others): see the other-worldly good Clam Casino versus this-could-be-better-without Portrait of New Haven. Regardless, the Clam Casino would be a go-to if I lived anywhere near here. The inside is huge. We sat in the main barroom. It was warehousey, but a pool table and picnic tables for large parties gave it a cool vibe. I enjoyed watching the bar staff have to hunch under the bar opening, which doesn't hinge up, as we waited for our discs 'o dough.

This place is small, unapologetic, and full of character. Decorative firewood stacked with intention, walls filled with wine corks, and #10 tomato cans repurposed as pizza stands. Walk in and you immediately catch the vibe, exposed brick, distressed plaster, a slightly industrial, almost factory-style feel that somehow still feels warm and welcoming. The centerpiece of the room is the wood-fired oven, running hot and glowing with that perfect orange flame. The aroma of burning wood hits you right away and sets the tone. From that moment on, the culinary experience is in motion. We ordered The Mootz and Breaking My Meatballs. Both pies are built on a very thin, tender crust with beautiful leoparding. The dough is flavorful and clearly well-fermented. Sauce is applied with restraint, just enough to support the dough and cheese without overpowering them, and it delivers a clean, bright tomato flavor. Breaking My Meatballs was the standout. Homemade meatballs, herbed ricotta, cherry peppers, mozzarella, and that same balanced sauce. The cherry peppers bring a sharp vinegar tang that cuts perfectly through the richness of the ricotta and meatballs. Every bite hits a different note, and it all works together. Easily one of my favorites. The crust across the board was thin and tender with a delicate smoky char from the wood fire, exactly what you want from this style. Bottom line: Great spot. Excellent pizza. Super friendly staff

Kwok has more than 20 years experience in the hospitality industry. Some of the other restaurants he has opened include Sweet Basil in Fairfield, Pink Sumo Sushi & Sake Cafe in Westport, and Eat Noodle in Bridgeport. Kwok and Nguyen's latest venture opened at the Connecticut Post Mall in a restaurant space that was previously home to Cast Iron Chef Kitchen & Bar, which specialized in tavern-style pizzas cooked in a cast-iron skillet. 8 Thousand Pizza offers this same style of pizza, but what sets them apart from the previous pizzeria is that they also offer self-pouring technology, which became legalized in Connecticut in 2021. The food menu features two dozen tavern-style pizzas as well as burgers, wings, fries, salads and soups. Through the use of a supplied electronic bracelet, customers can self-pour their own beverage from a selection of 28 craft beer taps and 6 wine taps. There's a two-pint or 32-ounce limit for the self-pours. I recently visited 8 Thousand Pizza for dinner. I had previously visited the space when it was Cast Iron Chef Kitchen & Bar and was sad to hear that they moved. However, this new business concept of a tavern-style pizzeria with self-pouring taps sounded very interesting to me. This was actually my first visit to a self-pouring taproom, as these types of establishments only just began opening in the state in the last few years. After looking over the menu, I decided to order the "Grandma's Tomato Pizza" (fresh mozzarella, tomato sauce, roasted garlic, tomatoes and EVOO) and the "Hot Honey Pepperoni Pizza" (tomato sauce, pepperoni, hot honey sauce and mozzarella cheese). The latter happens to be 8 Thousand's signature pizza. Both pizzas had crust so thin that it's almost cracker like; they didn't flop at all. They were super crispy with excellent sauce and toppings. I honestly can't decide which one I liked better; they were both very good. During my visit, I enjoyed some self-pours of Grey Sail Brewing's "Captain's Daughter" (Double New England IPA) and New Park Brewing's "Cloudscape" (American IPA). Delicious pizza with craft beer is always an excellent pairing! I had a really nice experience at 8 Thousand Pizza and I hope to return with my family.
