We waited about an hour to get in on a Sunday night at 5:30pm and college wasn't in session. It was also drizzling. Then once inside we waited almost another hour for food. We were so hungry! The employees were very nice. Everyone on line was nice and we bonded. He said the pizza with sausage was the best he ever had but it didn't reheat well the second day. I had the potato and I was a bit disappointed. They did nothing to the onions. I thought they would caramelize them or something. Instead they were very bitter and ruined the flavor. I picked them all off after 3 slices and that seriously helped. I ate 3 slices the next day and without the onions it tasted much better.

For my boyfriend's second time visiting CT, we had to have him try Sally's -- even if it was the only place on Wooster Street with a line at 12pm during a 90 degree day. (We won't mention which place we took him to for his first time, but I'lll say he said his consensus after was that he preferred the pizza here). As a CT native who now lives out of state, I hadn't even been to Sally's or the other since I was probably a teenager. My dad has always gone on saying how Sally's is his number one, and now I finally see why. It has a more rustic, home cooked quality to it. And let's be real, all of the pizza on this street is delicious, so I really don't want to compare too much. After waiting in line for an hour, we cooled inside with some crisp Foxon Park Birch Beer and a fresh Caesar salad hit the spot. I don't usually bother with salad when I'm visiting home & getting my pizza fix, but I would absolutely order this salad again! It was a perfect Caesar. For pizzas, we opted to get the classic New England clam pizza, and it ended up being a favorite of my CA boyfriend as well. We also ordered a sausage, onion, & cherry pepper (the cherry peppers were HOT), and of course we had to get a classic pepperoni. It was a perfect meal, in a nice, cozy old school spot, that I'll definitely be craving until I'm back in town. Yes, it was worth the wait in line.

When it comes to Connecticut apizza, conventional wisdom says there are three bucket-list spots you must try: Frank Pepe, Moderna, and Sally's. We managed to hit Frank Pepe's and Sally's on our New England summer holiday, and Sally's was easily the best of the two. While the Connecticut style overall didn't entirely meet the massive hype for me, my daughter absolutely loved it--in fact, Sally's was her single best bite of the entire trip! The only reason it's getting 4 stars instead of 5 is that while it was very good, it wasn't earth-shattering, nor did it quite reach the heights of places like L'Industrie in NYC. We ordered the burrata pizza, half pepperoni. The sauce was packed with flavor, the burrata is always a total hit, and the pepperoni cupped perfectly to hold all those rich, flavorful oils. The crust was great--charred beautifully on the edges but a little moist and wiggly in the middle, heavily reminding me of Da Michele in Napoli. They also conveniently provide red pepper flakes, oregano, and Parmesan on the side so you can fix it up to taste. The ambiance is classic and cozy. It's a smaller establishment with booth-style tables lining both sides of the room. Because indoor seating is limited, you should absolutely expect to wait in a long line unless you plan ahead. We lucked out by timing our visit right between the lunch and dinner rush, meaning we snagged a spot in their dedicated parking lot and were seated immediately with zero wait. To top it off, the service was incredibly friendly, helpful, and welcoming from the moment we walked through the door. The amazing staff kept us constantly updated on our pies and created a genuinely fun, happy atmosphere throughout the meal. It's easily the best pizza we had in New England!

It was an honor to visit one of the most famous pizza shops in existence. The atmosphere takes you back to 90s. So much nostalgia and a real local vibe. The Potatoe pizza was my favorite. It sounds weird but it is delicious. My husband and I almost finished both pies but held back because we had more on our food tour lol we went early in the day on a weekday so there was no to wait at all. The pizza is super fresh and delicious.

Ok. I get it. This is what top-tier pizza tases like. Everything you've heard about New Haven, specifically Sally's is 100% true. Nothing disappointed and out of the five pies that we ordered, the rosemary potato was the star of the show, but the sausage and onion was not far behind either. The way they char the crust is delicious and like no other pizza spot I've ever been to. I will definitely be back again.

Very busy and be ready to wait, but try it once if you can! The pizza is east coast thin with that crunch factor a good pie needs.

Came here with a group of 5 during my first trip to Connecticut for work, and it was a great introduction to a local New Haven pizzeria. We arrived right as they were about to open and were seated immediately, which was much appreciated since the place was busy--people waiting outside in line to get a seat the whole time we were there. Service was friendly and efficient throughout the meal. We ordered the mozzarella and tomato pie, the potato and rosemary pie, and the cannoli pie for dessert. The mozzarella and tomato pie was classic and delicious with fresh flavors, while the potato and rosemary pie was an interesting combo. Super crispy, savory, and something different. The cannoli pie was a good sized, shareable slice a great way to end the meal. Only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that everything was very good, but not quite mind-blowing. Still, definitely worth visiting since the dine-in vibe was so chill and full of history.

Pepperoni mushroom with half hot cherry peppers...amazing!

One of my favorite pizza places and it is rich in history. The crust is excellent thin crust with a slight char from the coal fired oven. The first bite bends off the slice, but after that bite, it's crunchy and firm. The sauce is the standout here as the pie has covered and then the toppings follow. It is not over cheesed so I you like it that way, you will have to specify. The pepperoni cups as it should as they collect the flavorful oils. The cherry peppers have a decent amount of spice and the mushrooms are fresh. They do have pepper flakes, oregano, and Parmesan on the side. Expect to wait in line unless you get there before opening time. They also have a parking lot for Sally's customers only.

Came to town for work and had to try the holy trinity of pizza, this was stop 2. Now compared to the others, I think this was favorite. I waited on a Tuesday night around 6:30 for about 45 minutes in the freezing cold 40 degree weather with no jacket. It was so worth the wait. Pizza I opted for was the half meatball & hot cherry peppers and also the original. It was so good, lots of flavor and tasted with nice char underneath. The original was good, but I needed to dress it with parm cheese, garlic and oregano. I did that after I tried a slice without it. It was still really good. 9.5/10. I washed it down with the white birch beer and finished with the cannoli cake. You have too. But the cannoli cake here, good, wasn't my fav. The one at FP was better. But hands down my fav pizza spot in NH. The staff was nice and efficient with serving me. Wait the 45 minutes... even in the freezing cold. It's worth it.

    - Another popular pizza spot with a small private lot that's almost always full; when we arrived at 3:45pm on Pi Day 2026, there was already a line of customers outside--we ended up waiting about 40 minutes to be seated - Smaller establishment with booth-style tables lining both sides of the restaurant; a bit tight, but not uncomfortable - Amazing staff--very friendly and attentive throughout our meal; kept us updated on the status of our pies and contributed to a genuinely happy, fun atmosphere - Pizzas were very good--served hot and fresh with a thin, chewy crust, though ours had a touch more char than we prefer; mozz and tomato pie had a nicely tangy sauce; original clam was loaded with tender chopped clams, though it was a bit light on that briny clam flavor

Worth the wait. Stopped in for lunch with family of 5. Waited 40min to be seated on a Saturday around 1pm; they were busy! Usually not crazy about honey pizza but my wife loves so we got a pie; well turns out we all loved it so much we killed it right away lol Customer service was pleasant and the atmosphere was so cool with big screen TV's!!! Right outside the restaurant they have a hall of fame basketball jersey and spot to take cool pictures with partner or kids! Check them out.

We had heard legends about this pizza place, and to be honest, I was asking myself how special this place could really be, since pizza's pizza, right? Boy was I wrong. After about a 45 minute wait on line outside in the baking sun (they had thoughtfully put out at least a few patio umbrellas along the queue so that there was some relief), we were able to get a table. Service was swift and friendly, and we got a couple of pizzas (pepperoni & mushroom, and another with just veggies). The crust, which to me is what really makes a pizza go from good to great, was absolutely perfect. Thin, crispy on the outside with a bit of toasty char, but nicely chewy on the inside. Of course, everything else about the pizzas was also delicious. Portions are generous -- we took some back to the hotel and had it cold for breakfast, which still tasted awesome. We're so glad we came. It was totally worth the wait!

Sally's Pizza - New Haven, CT We waited in line for about 30 minutes, and honestly, it was totally worth it! I've tried pizza all around Connecticut, and I have to say--this one is definitely my favorite so far. We grabbed the classic mozzarella and also tried the baked potato slice. While the baked potato was interesting, I definitely preferred the classic cheese--it's just that good. Highly recommend if you're in the area and don't mind a short wait for some seriously amazing pizza.

Sally's Apizza Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Sally's Apizza

Planning on passing through on a Friday in the coming weeks and am wondering if I would need to call ahead even for lunch time? Would like to know beforehand thanks!

You can go on their website and order for pickup UNLESS you want to eat inside. I would suggest waiting and eating inside if you have the time and want the full experience.

Will Sally make a pizza half white and half red?

Best way to do this is order two smaller ones ..depends on what kind of pizza - I’m sure the topping may have different cook times

What's the wait if I get there at 5:30 on a Saturday night? Can I order before for pickup and then eat in the outside area?

Thanks for reaching out! Wait times do vary, so unfortunately I wouldn't be able to provide you with an accurate answer, however on weekends we tend to be busier. Outside is first come first serve for tables, so we can't guarantee you'll get a table…

Coming from out of town. Can you eat in or only takeout?

You are able to eat outside on the patio as well call for takeout if you are just stopping through!

    Are dogs allowed on patio?

Yes, the patio has spacing sufficient for social distancing both humans and canines. Do not know if they will be putting heaters out in the side parking area patio that we ate at.

Do they take reservations for the outdoor dining, or first come first serve? Is it really necessary to get there for opening when they open at 10am?

They do not take reservations....it's first come first served. I have gone multiple times and waited maybe a half hour. No need to get there at 10am unless you like pizza for breakfast. Btw, excellent pizza and service.

I have been on the phone trying to call sally pizza for 15 minutes, no one is picking up and puts me on hold, I dialed the phone number at 7:55PM, what time does it close on Sunday?

We are open till midnight. Please try back again. We only have 1 phone line and we answer the calls in the order they are received.

Are your phones working? I called 40x and get a busy signal. If you get this message I'd like a large cheese.

Are you the one that asks if everyone phones working, what you just go down the line and call to see who's answering 😳😳😳😳

    Does Sally's deliver?

They are now available on Door Dash! Check their hours, they close pretty early.

If I am looking for takeout pizzas on a Saturday afternoon (3.30 pm-ish), how far ahead should I call?…

Always give yourself at least an hour, just order ahead and tell them what time you would like it for.

    Do they take reservations?

Sorry, we do not take reservations.

    Gluten free pizza?

    We do not.

Yelp shows that Sally's takes credit cards, but historically they were cash only. Did this change with the new ownership?

Yes. We started taking Credit cards in April of this year.

I love this place! Do they do take out?

Yes they definitely do. I saw many people leaving with pizzas. But they only do Pizza's that's it. Worth it tho

Possibly a stupid question - do they do slices or just whole pies?

Just whole pies. We do have a small sized one which would make a perfect sized pie for 1.
