My previous reviews note my love for New Haven style pizza. Growing up in NJ it's hard for me to admit it's simply better than NY style. Was helping a friend move in Madison, he thanked us by bringing Grand to the house for lunch - I think I'm in love. Even take out pizza maintained that fantastic New Haven crust. Pizza was thin, ample, and perfectly cooked. The best part, it's not exactly like Pepe's or Sally's - it's as if really good NY style melded with really good New Haven Apizza Hope he invites me back to the area for more. It's too far south for me to justify by myself. But I would ABSOLUTELY take the hour drive with family or friends as a destination pizza spot on a weekend. read more

Pizza was really good, but was disappointed in the service to be honest. We ordered 2 Pizza's, the pepperoni and peppers, and the sausage and Rabe. They forgot the Sausage on the one pizza and had to fire a new one. Only after I got the attention of another employee because our server didn't come back to check on us. Grand is our local pizza joint. The space is unique given the arrangement of two retail spaces they occupy. Booth seating, placemat menus, bottled sodas, we've seen it all before. Servers are efficient although not engaged. Happily we come for the pizza and it never disappoints. Thin crust, tasty red sauce and lots of topping choice. Stay away from the bacon! Solid pizza, not always as crisp as ideal but really good overall pie. Sauce is much better than bradley and wall which seems too sweet. The toppings are great with artichokes at the top of my list. The white pizza with pesto is also great. Easy to order and ready when promised. read more

The pizza was okay. We got three for takeout and I appreciated the ingredients on the veggie one. The crust wasn't fully cooked to be crispy, which is always a tell for me on pizzas with more watery ingredients. My in-laws said it used to be better, so maybe it changed hands? I ordered the Mac and Cheese bites tonight, which I've ordered many times, and loved them.... they were so pathetically tiny. How is that an appetizer? It was like a mini dog treat. I use to love that appetizer. I couldn't even tell they were Mac and Cheese anything today. They were less than an inch diameter. Really a shame. This is our go-to when we don't feel quite like venturing into New Haven. Grand rivals Modern's the Works Pizza. We like all of the grand locations but find the Madison one to be the best and also Madison's dine-in bar are is pleasant. The young women who work there are always pleasant and attentive. Stopped by on a roadtrip from PA to RI for a smoothie bowl & was captured by the "Apizza" sign. Went in, got a slice of cheese, fresh out the oven. Great slice, interior was beautiful, has a really great tradition of pizza making, counter lady was really nice. My family orders from Madison Grand Apizza a couple times per month. We've had minor issues like a forgotten pizza that were quickly resolved. I always order delivery off slice a service that Grand partners with. Tonight, we ordered at 6:40 and received an "out for delivery" notification with an ETA of 7:32. The order didn't arrive until after 8:30 and it was ice cold. When we called Grand they offered to send new pizzas, but we were hosting hungry party and told them we already had the pizzas in the oven reheating. The person on the phone said "well I guess you have your food then" and offered no other remedy. Grand insisted that Slice had incorrect times, but couldn't explain why our food arrived cold. I called back and asked to speak to a manager. She started the same explanation about Slice being incorrect. At this point I was angry and definitely let that show without cussing or being demeaning. The end result: Grand offered to refund 50%, which we appreciate. I appreciate the them doing the right thing. It was definitely a bummer people had to leave my 13yr olds party without food. We're happy they decided to resolve it in an appropriate manner. read more

I love New Haven style pizza. But it seems to few restaurants around here offer that style. Imagine my surprise when I feasted my eyes on grand Pizza. They advertise themselves as New Haven style Pizza. My taste buds started to sing and I knew I had to try them. The pizza was very good. Perfect amount of cheese and sauce. The restaurant is bigger inside than I had originally thought. It was thin style New Haven style Pizza and suffice to say I devoured it. I do not live in Madison and so I cannot be regular but if I am back in this area you can bet I will be back to have some of your delicious pizza. I do not like thick Pizza and I find that most of the pizza places around me do not offer the new Haven city style experience. I would recommend them. The staff were very nice and there were plenty of tables when I went in or I should say booths. I went for lunch so I can't really speak to how it is at night. I got a spot at the bar against the wall. I could not see the Kentucky Derby hardly. There was no music so I played some on my phone. The bartender struggled. The Cesar salad had a bit of a tangy more Italian style dressing to it but the large portion is great for 4 people to share. The pesto pizza had far too much pesto and it was oily and weighed it down. The serving staff was sitting and eating so they did not come back to check on us to see if we needed anything else until they brought boxes and check. Located in downtown Madison, this place is cute from the outside. Parking in front is on the street and can be difficult at times. There is more parking in the rear. We've only ordered take-out pizza here, but picking it up can be a challenge. The layout of the restaurant is super tight, and if there are more than a couple of other customers waiting for their food, it can be uncomfortable. The staff is usually busy, which can be an excuse (but not a good one) for not being friendly. On the plus side, the pizza itself is quite good. Grands typically our delivery pizza. It's usually pretty good if you go in for a slice. 4p in the afternoon yesterday and Pizza on delivery is an over cooked cracker. Worst I ever had. They are so irratic in their pizza quality. They truly don't care what they send out the door. In general it's 50:59 burnt:reasonably good. Last night was the final straw.
