Wow! This is what CT pizza is all about. We stopped here for lunch after visiting Pandemonium down the road. We had the meatball grinder, the sausage and pepper grinder, and a pepperoni pizza. The meatballs were flavorful. The sausage was sautéed with the peppers. The bread was crunchy and soft and warm. The pizza was exactly what CT pizza is known for: thin, crispy, flavorful crust, and a bright and zesty sauce. I was driving past and saw the pizza by the slice here. As I'm a sucker for slice pizza I dropped in to check it out. I'm very glad I did. Here's a pizza with a great pomodoro sauce rather than boring canned tomato sauce, everything was very melty (which made it a tad messy but that's part of the experience). If we're judging by tip flop, yes, when I folded it to eat it the tip of each slice was quite droopy. However, the crust was thin, I'd say pretty close to neopolitan style, and the bottom had a good slight char aspect going. Just enough to accentuate the flavor, not burnt. I was just going to carry on but I was compelled to return and get a couple smalls to go. They do have a dining room but it's almost an after thought, certainly not all that comfy looking. I'd say the core business is the take out. Either way, I'd highly recommend giving this place a shot. read more

over one week ago, I got take out I ordered a medium white spinach pizza with bacon and garlic and a large salad. The pizza had no spinach or garlic, It was basically a medium white pizza with under cooked bacon the bottom of the pizza box was soaked with grease. Tip: do not order from here from online. I went to the website from the link on Yelp to order online, and found out later that it was placed through Grub Hub and was charged 30% more than I would've been if I called the restaurant directly. I thought Grub Hub was only a delivery company, but I guess not. I paid 30% extra to order online instead of calling on the phone. Also, there was a lady sitting at the table in there when I picked up today, that also had her dog sitting in a chair at the table when I went to pick up today. After having a great pizza a few months ago here with a friend. I was celebrating arriving back home after a long absence. I ordered a shrimp scampi pizza and a garden salad DELIVERED. The salad was fair with too little dressing. But the pizza looked liked it went through a brake job from 100 miles an hour. One side of the pie was flipped over on to the other side. Topping was all mushed together on to one half of the pie. It was a disgusting mess that couldn't be fixed. Pizza was delivered stone cold. Wait was an hour. Must of had to wait for more deliveries to back up So we put the mess into the microwave, 2 pieces at a time which makes it come out doughy and chewy like gum. Such a disgusting mess to try and eat. Overall way Too salty and I love a lot of salt Dough is overworked leading to a very tough crust. Sauce too acidy. Overall has a flavor that I sometimes get from commercially produced Italian food (like prepared frozen meatballs in sauce, or frozen dinners) which I can only describe as chlorine like. My husband confirmed he tasted this and chlorine is the only way we could describe it though i'm sure it's not bleach in the food, perhaps it's the flavor of water or a type of oil used. We just moved to Westbrook from Wallingford CT where we had several delicious local pizza spots to choose from. We wanted to try pizza from the area for a new go to spot. Well, Pizza Grande is not the place. Pizza was way over priced ($50 for two pies), the order wasn't correct, and the employee seemed overwhelmed when we picked up. The pizza itself was fair at best. The dough was good and cooked properly, but the sauce had a weird taste - i like a sweet pizza sauce like New Haven style. Maybe if the pepperoni was actually on my pie I would have enjoyed it more. Excellent food, and as others have mentioned an extensive menu for a small -town restaurant. The only place I've ever seen that offers not just fried dough on their menu, but fried dough topped with melted mozzarella. It's incredible, and the portion is generous. The pizza is also very good - the closest I've ever tasted to the pizzas made by my grandmother and my great grandmother - who was an immigrant from Sicily. My family orders pizza every Friday alternating between here (my and my father's choice) and another restaurant (my brother's choice). I so look forward to the Fridays where we take out from Apizza Grande! As someone who is 40 and has lived in the area all my life, I know that many businesses in the building where this restaurant is have failed - even though in my opinion they didn't have anything wrong with them. I'm guessing that the reason for this is the location. It's kind of out of the way and modest - looking. I really hope that we can keep Apizza Grande here for a long time. This is my family's second time ordering from this new location. There is definitely room for improvement. Tonight, I ordered a margarita red pizza, which is supposed to come w garlic, basil, and mozzarella. The pizza had only tomato's, and shredded mozzarella as the base (along w red sauce of course). Traditionally, I thought it was going to have sliced mozzarella. There was little to no basil :( garlic no where to be seen. We also got buffalo chicken pizza, which my family members enjoyed. Their breads are overloaded with cheese.. and when you ask for light or no cheese they can't seem to figure out this request... tried multiple times.. Most of their dinners are borderline fair and some are terrible.. Their pricing on some items is excessively high... if the food was great.. would be easier to accept. Couple of cheeseburger grinders- must have been good I ate the whole grinder! I ordered some hot wings for my daughter and she said they were OK. Our first time trying this local spot. The pizza was disappointing. The sauce is very acidic and tastes like a can. It is super salty and overall tasted very processed. The main issue we had though is that we ordered two pizzas off of their online menu. When we went to pick it up, it was $10 more than the online price. When we got home and called to ask the price of the pizzas, they told us the mozzarella was $1.60 higher than the online price, which we understood, but the vodka sauce and chicken pizza was $8.00 more than the online price. To us, that's significant. They argued it's not their fault, it's the person who made the website. We argued it is their responsibility as a business to at least let their customers know (if they are unable/willing to change the website) when they order that there is a 40% increase over the advertised price. Plus there was an extra charge for using a credit card. We understand times are tough, but communication is important and when you think you're spending a certain amount and it's that much higher, it certainly felt like we were ripped off. Bottom line, be aware, their online prices mean nothing and they don't tell you they're significantly off when you call and the pizza was disappointing. read more

When I called to complain they said it was the kitchen staffs fault for making grinders- they told them dinners then it was my fault for not speaking clearly when I asked for Chicken Florentine and they thought I said Chicken Sorrentino. read more
