Great Italian restaurant in the middle of nowhere. It was in the middle of afternoon so we were not gonna get their main Italian dishes which sounded good after reading them on their menu. Just stop for something quick I had a hot ham grinder with roasted red peppers which was totally delicious. Our waiter who by the way was the owner, was very friendly and polite and the food came out on time. I would definitely go back if we're in that part of the state again!! read more

We have a mixed opinion in our house. I like Moravelas's but my husband doesn't. It's your basic Italian pizza, canned sauce. Shredded cheese. It does have good sausage. And I'm a crust aficionado and it's nice and chewy and plentiful. Moravelas's other fare is good. Philly cheesesteaks are good, beware the hamburger, it's basically a grease burger. I do like their Cobb salad with chicken and bacon and no cheese which I can't eat, roasted peppers and olives and their house dressing is decent. The prices are average to the area. It's not bad but it's nothing special. Most of their food is frozen but I think the Italian dishes are homemade. The trick is ordering the right thing. Nice dining room, if you've just been to Gillette's castle it's the first restaurant you'll see coming off the ferry but travel a little further into Chester center and the restaurants are outstanding. If you want to eat cheap Moravelas fits the bill. read more

Don't think of this place as a pizzaria because they are so much more. If you do think pizzaria, they do make a very good pie. I have had wings, pizza, burgers and diner plates and yes, they were all really tasty. I was surprised to find such simple and humble place with such good menu. The restaurant's seating area is adequate. Not the kinda of place you'd think to find good food. Takes a bit of convincing people too but so far no regrets. I've gotten take out from here twice. The first time it was spaghetti and meatballs, and it was pretty good. It was a kids meal that was pretty hefty and enough for an adult. The second time however, I got Chicken Alfredo and for dessert tiramisu. The Chicken Alfredo needed a good amount of salt to taste like anything, and the chicken was a whole piece of chicken breast. Other than those oddities. It was okay. The tiramisu was good on the way down. On the way out, not so much. Not sure if it was the tiramisu or the Chicken Alfredo but one of them gave me a terrible case of the runs, and made me throw up. Repeatedly. Once my stomach was completely empty I was fine. I've had plenty of those dishes from different restaurants and never had that reaction. So be wary of those two items. Not sure what that was up with that. read more

Decent food considering the area. I don't mean that as an insult, but this place is kind of in the middle of the woods. I enjoyed my meal. Atmosphere is extremely casual and noisy. I had lunch here with my brother Hulka who is a regular and lives in town, based upon his high recommendation...we both had cheeseburger grinders with French fries- Both had generous portions and tasted outstanding... The charismatic chef and owner Chris came out and greeted us like we were old friends-The place is clean with plenty of parking and he's in a great location... can't wait to go back and try all the other items on his menu such as pizzas and full on dinners...Chris you are a rockstar and can't wait to see you again brother! I was here yesterday for a surprise birthday party. The guest of honor is regular at Moravela's and you could tell -- the staff acted as if they were throwing a party for a member of their own family. They took a lot of care in making sure everyone's beverages stayed fresh and full and there was more than enough food to go around. When I saw strombolis on the menu I instantly knew I had to order one. Here's what I got: Stromboli Italian Sausage, Green Pepper, Mushroom, Pepperoni, Salami, Ham, Onions, Mozzarella & Sauce. The small was nearly a foot long; no one ordered a large. It was excellent. It cost $11. Half of us had strombolis and half had personal size pizzas. No one could finish his lunch. Stopped in for slices and were pleasantly surprised at the wide variety of New York Style thin crust pizzas available by the slice. Had I been a meat eater, it would have been a difficult choice. But, there were still plenty to choose from that consisted of just veggies. I had a tomato and garlic slice as well as one plain cheese. Both were wonderful and I would recommend either one of them. My Fiance had a slice of Buffalo Chicken and just pepperoni and loved both of them. Both of us would have to say this was probably some of the best pizza we have ever had and would drive out of our way to go there again. I am looking forward to trying other things on the menu. Sorry but this place was not good at all. When you enter the restaurant the smell of garlic was wonderful. Unfortunately you don't make everything homemade. The meatballs are terrible! Owner also tends to come out from kitchen and sit down with select customers for extended periods of time while ignoring, nor acknowledging, other local loyal customers. After visiting our destination in East Haddam..we asked a business couple to recommend a place to have lunch..this was their choice. Glad we listened..glad we asked. The pizza looked fine but we live in a very excellent pizza area..(New Haven etc)..and so I went for the hamburger. Most places that serve good pizza do not have great hamburgers and fries..well they did and they do. The waitress was very friendly and very attentive without going overboard...afterall it is a casual place. This is just your run-of-the-mill town Pizza joint with solid pizza and pastas. They're great in a pinch for take-out as they're one of the only take-out places open decently late. I've actually never eaten there- only take-out, but they've definitely got the Haddam end of Chester locked down for their product. read more

Sat down for a grinder over the weekend, bread was good, however the meatballs were very small and they tasted like store bought frozen.
