The owner or manager was very friendly when we arrived. I was able to get a marinara pizza and it was excellent. All the brick on the oven WOOD was outside in the parking lot. A small location to sit inside. Just not a fan of New Haven, Connecticut it's kind of rundown. But the restaurant was very nice.

Just what I needed at the end of a long night! My friend and I ordered three slices to share and we were really surprised when we got these giant slices of pizza! Each slice had plenty of gooey cheese! This may not be Sally's pizza but it really hit the spot!

Food was burnt and uneditable. And flat a paper. My total was $47 First and last time ordering from this nasty place.

Pizza wasn't horrible. But not great. Crust is super thin almost cracker like. The inside was almost clean but outside eating area was awful. cigarettes and trash littered the area and this was at 5pm with no one there. They had time to clean but you can tell they never do. read more

Ordered takeout, pizza was cold when we picked it up. Chicken Caesar salad had hot chicken on the lettuce which wilted the lettuce and made it soggy and gross. Not a great experience unfortunately. There are so many other pizza places to try, I would skip this one. read more

Probably the best brick oven pizza I've had. It's not necessarily cheap but for the quality, I'd say it's worth it. I always get a large pepperoni and it's always great. Pizza always has that nice char on the outside you'd expect from a brick oven read more

It's not as good as Modern (or Pepe's or Sally's). But it IS open at midnight. And its probably the best pizza you can get at midnight. They also have above average chicken fingers. What, are you a child, Josh? Yes I am leave me alone. Idk why but they only give you honey mustard with the tenders so you prob wanna go ahead and make sure you have Blue Cheese in stock. Its def my favorite late night pizza spot. Except one time I accidentally sent my Grubhub order to my friend's house in Hamden so I had to drive to Hamden and get my pizza and then it was cold so I re-cooked it and I accidentally over-cooked it a little and I can feel happiness slipping away from my grasp at every passing moment. read more

Came here for a light night dinner on the way to Rhode Island. This ended being our 3rd option as every place was packed on a Saturday. Deceivingly large place as they have a mirror on one side wall and were a little thrown off by the ordering kiosk even though they asked us to order in the front. My group and I ate a large margarita and a clam pie. The margarita was much fairly good - good flavor, crust was good and there was a good amount of toppings. Distribution and slice size was varied to say the least. The clam pie was a bit of a mess. Pretty much all of the cheese and topping fell off the second we tried to take a slice - again, distribution of clams, and maybe bacon(? didn't find any), and good flavor and crust. It was fine in a pinch but there was a group of 8 that pretty much took over the place, so our 6 top was a little crammed, so eating in is a toss up. Fine overall nothing so objectionable that I didn't feel full afterwards or didn't enjoy what I was eating. read more

New Haven is a town where amazing pizza is Everywhere Brick Oven Pizza is the opposite I definitely would say go anywhere else. I got a slice and I would say this is a step below the dollar pizza spots in NYC. Cheap and not much taste. Skimpy on the cheese and sauce (didn't even cover the whole slice) and little to no seasoning. A slight step up from eating cardboard. The employees definitely are not welcoming and seem like they don't like having to do work. Having an attitude and a bad products is double bad. I will NOT be back and do not recommend. If you see my reviews I am very fair and don't give many places a horrible rating but I think people need to know to skip this place. If you get a chance hit up Bar or Modern Pizza which are New Haven Staples and the Top of the Crop in my opinion. Or Yelp or even pick at random and you will find something that is a much better read more

Everytime I order the "party size " pizza, they send a regular large with a few slices cut in half to make it a couple more than 8. Either someone doesn't know what party size is or just too lazy to make it & cut into squares. Every other pizza restaurant in most states know a party size pizza is the largest rectangle shape cut into squares. Also, they had a "weekly special, it's supposed to be a party size pizza with 2 large salads and a 2 litter soda - the choices for soda under this"special" is limited, but the only made 1 salad. I sent good money to receive what I want in the adequate amount for everyone, but was disappointed again. . . . Pretty bad pizza, whole place smells like rats (I've seen them throwing rats out of the kitchen.) They also throw these huge loud parties at like 2am. You can't get into the place because its a specific crew taking it over, and they just absolutely blast shitty music at painful volumes. read more

Absolutely terrible. First, everything was cold. Wings were hard as rocks. My guess is they pre fried them, waited an hour before trying to refry them to "crisp" them up, but it was not executed. These wings were dryer then eating a spoon of cinnamon. The pizza wasn't much better. Extremely inconsistent, some slices had an extremely well charred crust, others had the bottom burnt to a crisp. Don't waste your time when there is so many amazing pizza spots in New Haven. read more

The elote pizza is quite possibly the most memorable, unique pizza I've ever had; it arrives almost crimson-red with a generous layer of corn and takis atop. It's still incredibly well balanced despite the hodgepodge of varied toppings. It's hard to pick a favorite between this and the bbq brisket though; while one is incredibly unique the other is simply sumptuous, nothing pedestrian about either of the two. The first room is your bar room where the rail is off to the left, but with plenty of seating to the right. If you continue through the room you enter the main dining room where it's all booths and other tables. Service: Stacey was our server. Things got off to a bit of a rocky start, but they smoothed out throughout the brunch. Food/Drinks: The mimosa was okay... It was REALLY strong because there's orange vodka and orange liqueur in it. It kinda killed the flavor for me because I'd prefer a traditional mimosa with minimal juice, but... no matter. They're bottomless... or supposed to be... Just be mindful of who your server is. Fresh bananas sliced right on top, it cut like butter, was soft with the perfect crispy edges and these were AMAZING. Punch of sweetness up front, fluffy texture and just a great pancake. For dinner, this restaurant usually serves Cast Iron Popcorn instead of bread, so Stacey let us try it! It was smokey, a little-little sweet with a little bit of salt and maybe a hickory barbecue flavor. I liked it. Lastly, I chose the Steak & Eggs over Salmon & Eggs, but got to try both since my wife was with me. Each comes with gigantic fried potatoes, 3 eggs, a piece of toast, caramelized onions and your protein of choice. My steak was cooked perfectly (medium-rare). The flavors were excellent. It was a little fatty and just was done very well. Value: $64.96 for bottomless mimosas and the prix-fixe menu. Probably the best value brunch in the state. SO MUCH FOOD and strong drinks. I don't know what else you'd want! In conclusion, I really enjoyed myself here and have revisited since my first time! Everything was just as awesome as the first. In a display of restaurant solidarity , they recommended that we try Vinas Wine & Tapas. As it turned out, we have a NEW favorite in New Haven! We arrived a bit early and were cheerfully greeted by Mike G, our server. The atmosphere was welcoming and relatively quiet, since their musical offering does not start as early as our 5:00-7:00 PM time slot on a Tuesday. We had asked for the waiter Christian because he had been mentioned in several of the Yelp reviews, but Mike proved that the service compliments should go to everyone. First, the tapas: We enjoyed all five of the tapas we chose. The "Calamares" were lightly battered and crispy. The Vinas salad was fresh, with tomatoes, cheese, corn, and croutons. The pork belly was delicious and more meaty than expected . The oyster mushrooms were presented with onion crisps. The baked birria empanada was stuffed with brisket style beef. Each of these "courses" was a unique delight to the palate, and for me and my partner, it was completely satisfying. In keeping with the spirit of a "wine bar," Vinas offered a flight of 4 wines in 3 ounce glasses, and after hearing about our food choices and wine preferences, Mike chose the wines for us, giving us a chance to taste some less familiar offerings. We had the Felino Malbec 2024 (Argentina), which became our favorite for its full-bodied and deep flavor. Our second wine was a unique Don Abel (private label) from Wallingford CT, made by one of the relatives of the owner, specially for Vinas. This one reminded us of the local wines one might receive in a B&B in the Loire Valley in France. The final two wines were both from Chile: Reserva Carmenere 2023 and Cabernet Sauvignon Marques de Casa Concha 2022. Both were excellent wines. It was great fun to have Mike choose the wines for us, and we really enjoyed the variety that the flight offerings gave to us. Of course, we had to try a dessert, and Mike recommended the Toffee Cake. We had heard that the owner claimed that some people cried with joy after eating it. Although we restrained ourselves, we had to agree that this was an extraordinary conclusion to a fabulous meal. Overall, this was a great experience for us, and we heartily recommend Vinas Wine Bar and Tapas for a relaxing and welcoming dinner. Some reviews I had read suggested that the portions were too small for the price. I have to disagree. My partner and I love food, and this was plenty. And the price was reasonable. Including tip and tax, we spent about $75 each.

I grew up in New York, and made it my personal mission in my 20's to find the Holy Grail of pizzas. I turned my nose up when I moved to New Haven and heard of their legendary pizza. Indeed, I am a pizza snob, and indeed, the pizza in town is second to none. Brick Oven is my go-to pizza place in the 'Have. Sure, Modern, Pepe's, Bar (I still haven't been to Sally's- whats the point? I have already spent too much of my life waiting for hours and endured rude service to try the other mystic pizzas in town), make some of the best pizza in town- but so do these guys, without all the hype. Try a plain cheese, or the Brick Oven Special. If you like New York style pizza, and you know what its supposed to be like, you will LOVE BOP. if you are from the mid west or west coast, perhaps your idea of a good pizza is a little different from those of us who actually know it when we try it (half kidding- I told you I was a snob, sorry). On occasion, I have gotten a less than perfect pizza from here (I would have given them 4 stars, but I think some of the reviewers were entirely unfair, and should not judge so harshly based on one pizza, and I have had dozens) There are 2 guys- one is bald on top, dark hair - he is the owner, and makes a perfect pie every time. The other is a little older with grey hair, and I believe a mustache- this guy is not always on his pizza game and tends to under cook. If you place a delivery, just ask for it well done, and you will be covered. As far as deliveries, I order from this place all the time and have never had a problem, and always get it within a 1/2 hour. read more

New Review: Fantastic brick-oven pizza, very comparable to Pizzeria Regina in Boston and Bertucci's. Haven't tried many other of the food items there, but the Turkey Club was good but not great. Edit: I returned from active duty in Afghanistan to be a US Army Recruiter with PTSD and a severe opium addiction and because I was using all my money to buy Oxycontin in Long Wharf, I shook down businesses for free food under the threat of a bad review citing bad customer service if they didn't give me a free sample and were rude about it. In the army, I learned to "shoot to kill" so I could be very mean in reviews where a person rudely turned down my request for a free sample. I think a lot of local businesses caught on to what I was doing and started contaminating food, so I also gave 1-star reviews if I thought a business intentionally gave me food poisoning, but I don't blame them because I was being such a jerk in the community to local businesses. Now that I'm in Narcotic's Anonymous and 3 months clean of opiates and all drugs and alcohol, part of working the program is doing a fearless moral inventory and am adjusting all the businesses I gave 1-star reviews to up to 5-stars. So last night I ordered from these very disrespectful and non-caring people a girlfriend of mine wanted to get a pizza we ordered 1 first of the woman who answers the phone here was rude and made us feel like we were a inconvenience then we waited 45 minutes no pizze. 2 hrs a pizza showed up. I get it and first it's ice cold second the pizza was all over the place in the box. So we call to talk to owner or Manager that works doesn't know a thing about customer service.he refused to pick up to hear r complaint. Andthe girl told us the owner said what you want really bro I'm a manager at a very big company and I would be fired if I treated paying customers like that. Homophobic and Transphobic. Called me a woman when I told them I'm a trans man and was told "your voice sound fem" then when I asked for a refund for cold pizza and the wrong pizza that I paid for with my disability check I couldn't be a student and be disabled when I'm getting my masters. So a 14$ refund is now turning into a lawsuit. and the owner is not refunding my money because he needs the business. When he could have remade the damn pie. instead of demanding almost to be convinced that I am a man. despite my voice. I called the police made a report and next week going to civil court discrimination isn't cool. The pizza itself was great, but the woman at the front has a horrible, nasty attitude. I ordered through grubhub and added in the notes to please include parmesan and red pepper, then I was automatically charged an extra $3.19 on my card. Normal restaurants call first, and ask if you are ok with the additional charge before charging you. I don't even think it's legal to do what they did. Then I called, and the woman was really sarcastic and condescending. She also hung up on me before I was done talking. Why did they hire this evil woman? New Yorker on a weekend trip to SCSU for a swim meet .. got directed to Brick Oven Pizza by the Marriott Courtyard staff. They guaranteed we would love it. Two nights .. two different pizzas. First night, with the most delicious fresh mushrooms and steak. Second night, couldn't order a pizza without those mushrooms .. went with basil, grilled chicken and garlic. Fresh salad to go with it and deliciously baked garlic bread. Wow - thin crust, perfectly baked and by one of the friendliest proprietors. Absolutely the best pizza we've ever had!!
