So far, so good. I visited this restaurant for the fourth time. I have had the empanadas, nachos, maduros and the paella. I always get the mango mojito! Delicious. This past Saturday, my wife and I shared the paella for 2, the nachos and maduros. This combination never disappoints. The hostess was extremely nice and the servers walk around and make sure that you glass stays full. Great service. The only thing is at the entrance before going down the stairs, it is extremely hot. There are items available that are not on the menu, so be sure to ask. I ordered the vegetable paella with quinoa and it was fantastic! Visually, it was a work of art - so beautiful, packed with so many flavors, had a nice amount of protein and the vegetables chosen were so complimentary. And the portion size was perfect. As vegetarian/vegans we actually need more food, but restaurants consistently give you less food as if we don't eat - it's always so weird. Not here at Ola - thank you for understanding our nutritional requirements! For dessert, I ordered the coconut tres leches cake. They were even able to accommodate my friend who is gluten free with a dessert option - plantains with caramel sauce. I've wanted to try this restaurant for so long after hearing so many good things. Tonight was the night and it didn't disappoint!! We decided to sit in the outdoor patio. Every table was full which indicated to me that this place must be good. We ordered some wine and the fried oysters and salmon tartar for appetizers. Both were excellent. The only complaint with the oysters was that the oysters themselves were very small compared to the plantain cake they rested upon. The Salmon tartar was so good. I could eat it everyday. I think they need to include at least 3 more chips given the amount of tartar that is served. For entrees we ordered the salmon and the skirt steak. Both were outstanding and incredibly flavorful. You cannot go wrong with either dish. We can't wait to return to Ola and very sorry it took so long to get there!! Highly recommend. read more

Excellent! A must try. We came here for Mother's Day and had a great experience. We had the guacamole with plantain chips and the guacamole was perfect (we asked them to add jalapeños). My daughters all ordered from the appetizer menu and my wife and I shared the paella. Everything tasted great but what really stood out was the very large portions. The paella for two could have easily fed 4 people. The nachos, which my daughter ordered, could have fed 3 people. The mojitos were made correctly, a perfect balance of ingredients. For dessert we had the tres leches, chocolate mouse cake, churros, and tres leches cheesecake. All the desserts were excellent. This is a super fun setting for a large party of people, family, or a date! I came here with my mom and got a paella, soup, and chips/guacamole. The total came to about $80, which was quite a lot for the quantity of food we got! Quality wise, the paella was great with a good amount of seafood. The soup did not taste anything special or interesting. I also had not expected it to be a cold soup, which was not my best cup of tea. The chips and guacamole were $14, and sharing it between two people was just enough. I could not imagine more people being able to share and get much from it. This was really expensive to me. They do mash the avocado/other ingredients in front of you which was neat, but not worth $14 in terms of quantity! Getting Latin American food is exciting because it was a unique experience for us, but for the price and overall quality of the food, I intend to explore other places! read more

This is also saying a lot for someone who doesn't like Mexican food all that much!!! I also recently tried the yucca fries, which were good, but came with this sauce that was absolutely amazing! Nuevo Latina food in Orange, CT. It is not your traditional Mexican fare rather it is a blend of South American dishes Mexico ... yes ... but also Peru, Brazil, and Columbia are all represented. We started with cocktails, a Classic Margarita (with a nice Orange taste) and a Campriniha. Our appetizer was a Chicken Empanada with a red cabbage and mango slaw - very well balanced. Our main course was a Cana Sugar Cane Dark Rum Carmelized Salmon and a grilled chicken on a rice and bean bed. Both dishes were perfectly cooked and absolutely delish. Dessert was a succulent flan with dried figs. The service Waac perfect and attentive. You don't have too worry if you dont like a lot of spice because it does not overpower the dishes rather it enhances it. Here's my breakdown below. The good: The ambience here was electric. It's situated underground essentially because the plaza this joint is in is on a hill. So it gives off a feeling that you're at this secret underground restaurant that only a few people know about. This place feels authentic with the Latin music & the snazzy decor. What I liked most about this spot is the presentation of the food. If you can tell by my pictures, they spare no expenses of having the most instagramable plates in all of Connecticut (which I will be doing today). Ola pulled my all time favorite move and handmade the guacamole we ordered right at our table. It tasted great but sadly that was the first and last stop on the flavor train. The Bad: The service was an absolute dumpster fire. I feel like they were short staffed because when my gf and I walked in, no one greeted us immediately. It took several moments but finally the bartender came over and greeted us, prepped our table and sat us. I know we are in tough times but the bartender should never have to play host too in a restaurant like this especially on a Friday night. For drinks, the margarita I ordered was the most watered down drink I think I've ordered to date. They didn't skimp on the tequila but the triple sec/lime juice was watered down...it basically tasted like a tequila and water which I'm very accustomed to from my long nights crushing it at the bar but really wanted a margarita in the situation. In terms of the service throughout the night, Ola achieved Top 5 Worst Restaurant Service status. I can be forgiving if its a little slow or if you forget to check in on us but when you forget to run the food to the table, the gloves are off in my reviews. I feel bad for the kitchen staff because the food looked phenomenal and the flavors seemed like they would be unbelievable but both our dishes were ice cold. I still ate mine because I'm a savage but I could tell the food would have been 5/5 if it was warm. My gf's dish was even colder than mine so she sent it back but we didn't want to wait for another dish to come out. The night was capped off with the waitress bringing us the wrong check which further prolonged the process of getting out of there and getting home. All-in-all pretty disastrous night out at Ola. I feel like if we got our food hot & I ordered a beer like I normally do, then this easily would have been at a 4/5.To get to a 5/5 the service has to be better. I want to come back down the line at some point because I know the food is great I just think they had a very off night. read more
