Visited Uptown for dinner this evening there was a talented acoustic musician playing in the bar which we enjoyed. We started off with a couple of apps the bean and poblano empanada and crab tostado special both very tasty. Dinner my wife loved her beef short rib and I had the Nashville chicken sandwich wow!!! We've been curious to check out Uptown for a while now, and I'm so glad we finally stopped in! It's our new favorite spot in downtown Ansonia, with such a beautiful covered patio area that we could hang out on for hours. Great variety on the menu! Wow! Where should I even start..this place is absolutely amazing! I wish I had heard of it sooner. I picked this place as a surprise for my friend's birthday! When you first walk in the sound of live music filled our ears and it was just lovely it was a surprise to me because I didn't know they had that here. The two gentlemen who were playing were so wonderful together and they were just having fun! The music kept the vibes flowing for the entirety of the time. The service was great everyone was lovely great attitudes, everyone helped it was a great collective effort Jackie and Raven the bartenders and servers were amazing, Brooke wonderful and even Tristan for his first day on the job did great! Elyse was very friendly and welcoming! The food was absolutely DELICIOUS that blue bird chicken sandwich was definitely my favorite thing we tried every bite of that sandwich makes sense and the truffle parm fries to go with it chefs kiss! The tacos were great I enjoyed the shrimp one more but the chicken one was very good as well. The waffle board I did think that that waffle was going to be bigger but it was still a great addition to our tastings. We shared everything and ended with the almond crème brûlée it was really good and not too sweet! We did also have some mimosas. We started off with mango, hibiscus, and ended with guava they were all really tasty. This place for sure exceeded my expectations and I will 1000% be a repeat customer! My husband and I stopped in on a Monday night for dinner and drinks. We started with the street corn dip, which was amazing! My husband ordered the Caribbean Jerk Chicken and I ordered a Butcher Board with the Hanger Steak, Spinach and mashed potatoes - both dishes were amazing and full of flavor. We both ordered espresso martinis which were some of the best we've ever had and for dessert we shared the banana tres leches which was also amazing. We went back a few nights later for some appetizers and more espresso martinis! We will definitely go back the next time we are in the area. They made Kale taste good!!! First time back since they updated the restaurant and my wife and I were impressed. We like the updated bar seating as now we have a place we can meet friends comfortably for drinks. Now on to the food and drinks. My cocktails were great, my wife's Chardonnay was delicious. We skipped appetizers because they are known for desserts. My wife had salmon, cooked perfectly with a kale and coconut rice side that was delicious. I hate Kale but would try this again. I had the duck special with a Luxardo cherry sauce, purple potatoes and vegetable medley. Simply delicious. Now the best part, The carrot cake dessert with the most delicious caramel sauce. The service was horrible!!!! The eggs were overcooked, the toast was hard no butter, the home fries were cold And over salted. The orders were messed up. They were preparing the food in waves of three. At the end they were asked if they can take a group picture. She on purpose left me out of the pictures several time. And I slipped on their over waxed floor and hurt my knee. I had to ask for help getting up. I had to ask for ice because my knee started to swell. Never again . This used to be Crave. Owner decided to change it up. :( I loved Crave. New place? In a word, underwhelming. First off no signage out in front. No name, no banner. Had a reservation, and got seated right away. Sat in the expanded dining area and it was VERY loud. Can't imagine what it would be like in the bar. The menu is very limited as compared to Crave. Disappointed with the choices since I go out to have something I can't cook at home. Waiting, waiting, waiting for service for 15 minutes to get a waiter to come. Think they are in a soft open because it seemed a bit chaotic. When the waiter finally came he was apologetic for the wait and said they were still working out table assignments. He also had no idea what beers they had. No list of beers on the table. Took almost 10 minutes more to get wine and a beer Got the veggie chips and green goddess dip. Very fair, some overcooked chips were annoying. The tatchitos were good, could have used more chili and cheese. Dinner was very good. The mahi-mahi dish was excellent. The pear salad was delicious! Shared a amaretto crème brûlée which was delicious. Expresso was excellent. So sadly my rating is a 3. Hopefully, they can work out their kinks. It is a nice place to be either for lunch or dinner. I had some appetizers, drinks and desert. The drinks were good (margaritas) but it had too much ice, so basically, it goes quick. The appetizers were fresh and delicious. We ordered the shrimp soup and the eggs rolls they had on their daily special. But what i enjoyed the most was the pistachio cake. Ill give that a 5 star. This review is solely based on our experience with their Sunday brunch. As a fellow past Crave/Latin fusion cuisine lover, we gave Uptown a try and it didn't live up to the dining experiences that we previously had. After being really underwhelmed I wouldn't be back for brunch as the menu was all over the place for us as we couldn't get a try vision of the chef for these selections and most dishes just fell flat. The best dish was the flatbread, it was delicious, I would recommend it solely as a meal or a starter for the table. I was one of the only guests who had a clear hit with this selection, but it wasn't enough to make me go back for brunch. They were busy and the staff certainly hustled; without a doubt they could of used a few extra servers which we know are hard to come by as two tables next to us, up and left after waiting for awhile to be greeted, etc. The jazz music although nice, it was very loud and made it difficult to carry on a conversation in the next room. Although we wouldn't go back for brunch, we definitely want to give Uptown another try for dinner as the menu looks fabulous! read more

Not sure about this place. It comes off as trying to be high end or something, but the food was not reflective of the prices. $25 for a "seared tuna salad". I am usually ok paying that for quality, but it came on a bed of what looked like the cheap bagged lettuce you get at the supermarket, you know, the kind with bits of carrot and cabbage? My wife had a watermelon salad with "shrimp". The shrimp were soooo small, like Chinese lo mein shrimp, or the tiny shrimp in egg rolls. We were expecting nice high quality jumbo shrimp or something that resembled the price we paid. So weird. And then the beer, I got a low ABV IPA beer and they put in a tiny tulip glass then charge $9 for it. I understand if it's a high alcohol beer, but a 16 oz pint is pretty standard at nearby places for the same beer. I don't know... The place looks nice and all, great ambiance, nice people, but it's a tough pill to swallow when you go to spend cash and what you receive doesn't meet expectation. read more

So new beginnings for Libby and Crave endings! We were here for our daughter's graduation and we were made a table for 5 on the sidewalk and it was a beautiful evening. Jackie ( 6 years at Crave and now Uptown) was our wait person and she's a pro plus! Everyone working this night, and we were served by 3 wonderful staff, was so helpful and they take their cues from Libby, the owner! Food was so fire and fun. We were able to take home another meal and them some! Short ribs are still on the menu as part of a butcher block selection that I had and they were very good. My wife had the paparadel with shreded short ribs and my oldest daughter had an Asian pear salad with organic salmon that was money! The grad had a burger with great truffle fries. She ran out of steam after the apps which are the star of the show. Tater tots called patatas bravas, bang bang shrimp, fresh tuna over crispy rice, eggplant chips and these are more complicated than my description. We could not stay for dessert bc we have eyes bigger than stomachs! I cannot wait to go back. It's a competitive environment in the service industry and they clearly understand that and they do go above and beyond to make you happy with your choice to dine with them at Uptown. I should ad that the vibe inside is more hipster than its predecessor and in the bar area there are awesome couches with colorful pillows and neon signage and comfy chairs and small tables to chill and the vibe is insta worthy! Boy are we are missing Crave. I used to go to there for lunch with my work friends. Loved the menu and the drinks. When UPTOWN opened we were anxious to try it out. Well, beside our waitress who was awesome there isn't a lot of positive to our experience. There wasn't many vegan options seems to be all comfort food. The drinks were different and we were not really finding anything that appealed to us, so we ordered Margaritas and a flatbread appetizer. I'm posting the receipt. Will probably never go again way to expensive. $18 for one drink?This is not NYC and even if it was... All other drinks on the menu were $14 so I don't understand. read more

I've been to Crave before and I enjoyed it so decided to check out the new place and menu. The look of the restaurant is looking like it going towards a younger crowd. Lounge areas, black walls, and graffiti art in the bathroom. I love it, looks really nice and chill. The menu is still upscale and pricey. We sat outside, it was okay. The server was really nice. The food was okay. We ordered the Asian cucumber salad. It was light which I enjoyed, just felt like it could have had a more Asian flavor, was a little bland. We also ordered the dirty tatchos. I enjoyed this, lots of different Ingredients that paired well together but the tator tots needed to be cooked longer. For the entree we ordered the chicken cutlet with mashed potatoes and spinach. The chicken was cooked nicely but it had no flavor, along with the sauce it was in. The spinach and potatoes were good. Our check was about 80 bucks, with prices like this the food should be better. More flavor! I would return here but nothing special in my opinion. read more

We stopped here to have a dinner date after vending at a local convention. The ambience is lovely it has a sort of art nouveau/modern aesthetic. The food was absolutely delicious. At least the hostess was super kind and very friendly, Andrea our server was one of the most bubbly and sweet people I have ever met and just so kind to two very tired travelers. Lauren their bartender is the queen of cocktails and mocktails. Due to a medication provoked allergy I can't have alcohol & most restaurants that serve mock tails drench them in sugar syrup which makes them very unpalatable to me but the way they make them at Uptown is perfect! It's just muddled fruit and whatever herbal or sweet component is very lightly handled so it tastes absolutely divine. We had the French onion soup as our main dinner because we were very desirous to taste all of the tempting treats on their menu. Both of those were absolutely delicious and just piping hot with a really flavorful broth. My husband had the cucumber salad with the sesame soy dressing as his starter and I had to be halloumi fries with the hot honey. Both of those were absolutely fabulous as well the halloumi cheese would be very very almost I'm not sure if it's a it is a floral honey but I'm not sure from which floral pollen it's made but it has a very light and sweet flavor and then the pepper jelly just adds a little punch that makes a delicious combination with the salty halloumi. Then we need to mention the desserts! I was a little sad that I couldn't get to try the death by chocolate cake that had a lavender chocolate frosting but their banana Tres leches was so good that it very much soothe my wounded soul. My husband's Afogato (espresso with vanilla ice cream) that looked delicious and the coffee smelled divine and we were both absolutely thrilled with what we ate so I highly recommend this location if you're local to Connecticut and The Ansonia and/or Shelton areas. read more

I went for dinner with friends one night and we sat by the window We had tasty, creative drinks made with fresh ingredients (mango, cucumber etc). We ordered a variety of tappas and couldnt decide which one we liked the best because one was better than the next. Mexican street corn, green goddess dip, Flat bread , and bruschetta. Everything was extraordinary!! Our dinner was fantastic too. I went back for lunch with another friend for her birthda and we sat outside. Again the food was beyond amazing and the drinks spot on. My girlfriend and I decided to try the renames "crave" in ansonia now called "uptown". When we walk in, kind of a cool vibe. But we sit down and I literally can't see anything. The first red flag was our only source of light from a candle that decided it didn't want to be lit anymore, and In hindsight I don't blame it. It was comparable to the lighting inside your favorite local Hollister circa 2010. Our waitress was very nice so that's a plus. We ordered the "bucket of dirty tachos". I'm not picky, but I was a little upset at the fact that I payed $15 for tater tots smothered in sloppy joe beef and velveeta "queso". I could go on for about an hour, but that's about how long our entree took to get to our table. My date's ramen was really just under cooked barilla fettuccini noodles, and the shrimp was probably cooked 2-3 times since it had been frozen. Now It was my first time having penne alla vodka with over cooked frozen meat balls and a half pound block of raw mozzarella plopped on top, and I pray to god this was the last time. I really don't understand what I did to deserve this. But that's not the best part. Our wonderful waitress (she was actually very nice) felt bad about us not wanting to take our entirely full plates home with us, so she decided to offer my date a free drink. But, returned a short time later with 2 blue raspberry dum-dum lollipops since they were out of the drink she was offered which was a first for the both of us. Now here's the funniest part, the bill. I'll never financially recover from this. And I'm still confused as to which part of our terrible meal cost us $110. Anyway, here's your review. Love this place. read more

Never again! my husband had steak with Rice and I had Paella. what a disappointment. my husband had to order a side of beans to make the rice taste like anything. My paella served with the same rice, no taste whatsoever. Dishes were bland, no seasoning, no onions, no garlic, no tomato and I question if they even had added Safrito. I asked the waitress about the lack of seasoning and she answered that's how we make it. The only color was some green peas scatter on top! We are only a little, and she continued to ignore the obvious fact that we didn't like it!! we politely paid, and left a 20% tip, but never again!! What a total disappointment. read more

I've been multiple times both with the former named restaurant (Crave) and current Uptown (same owner). I liked both, though miss the old menu. I was last there for at noontime for Sunday brunch. They had live music which was really nice. Uptown has a fun vibe and the choices for food and drink are good. Apps were tasty but didn't come out hot. Though food tastes good, there always seems to be something off, which I would attribute to whoever is cooking. Last time I was there, I asked for a medium burger and got it well done, and the Gruyere on the burger was cool and not melted. Truffle fries were soggy, telling me they sat around for a while. I won't order shrimp in a main course anymore because they usually come out tough/over cooked. I want to continue going because I like the restaurant and want to support it, but I think more attention needs to be paid to the cook staff's skills and/or attention to details. read more
