I went here on a Friday night and this was my second time here. The food has been excellent each time. The staff is very friendly but I will say that they are pretty slow. Dinner | $100+ | February 13, 2026 I called earlier today to reserve a table for three people for 7 PM. The gentleman who answered was professional, took my name and phone number, and clearly confirmed the reservation. When we arrived at 7 PM, we were told my name was not in the system. There was no apology, no acknowledgment of the mistake, and no attempt to take responsibility. Instead, we were seated at a table near the kitchen without any explanation or courtesy. The front desk staff member's attitude was unprofessional and dismissive. In hospitality, basic respect and accountability are expected. A simple apology would have gone a long way, but none was offered. The food was average at best. The only positive part of the evening was the gentleman who served us -- he was professional, attentive, and courteous. His service stood in sharp contrast to the unacceptable front desk experience. This was meant to be part of our Valentine's Day Eve celebration, and the mishandling of the reservation completely undermined the experience. For a dinner costing over $100, this level of service is unacceptable. Very disappointing experience. Recently came here on a nice weekend for some girl time on the patio. We decided to come here for the better ambiance and patio instead of a solid place down the street not so glamorous. Sat down and ordered drinks and knew it wasn't going to be good. Who the hell is charging $16 for Beringer White Zin?!?? Not that I drink that crap but come on!! I asked if they had any spiked seltzers which they didn't so settled on a $16 Paloma type drink. We decided just to get some apps to share. Met three friends here and we sat at the bar. I had a mango mojito which was very easy going down. The bar crowd was pretty big so the bar tender did best he could to get our orders and food submitted. Servers were friendly and helpful but due to crowd they were a bit slow. We had guacamole as an appetizer and it was very good chunky with lots of flavor. Carne Asada was thin steak almost paper thin but had good flavor. Got there a few minutes after opening. Only 4 other customers were there. Staff was very pleasant and courteous. Ordered shrimp tacos. waited for 45 minutes for the meal. 2 tacos. Beautiful presentation. Basically multi-colored slaw, flavorful sauce and almost no shrimp. Took all the shrimp pieces (it was chopped into small pieces) out -- amounted to about one burnt medium shrimp in total tossed into the slaw and distributed over 2 tacos for &16.99. Rating: meh. First of all, five stars is too low for this place. I have been here before, and I came back again when visiting Connecticut. I wish this restaurant existed in Vancouver Canada. The service and ambiance are top-tier, they handle large groups and vegetarian options very well. I hope they never stop their birthday celebration & three-tier dessert tower. Not impressed. The plating is nice and that's about it. The spicy food is mild, the mild food is bland, and you're best off expecting it lukewarm. Management is entirely hands off. Sitting at the bar and treating it as an observation perch while staff struggles with clearing tables and largely unamused diners. Why don't you go and do inventory or play with Excel or something. Poorly ran. Poorly executed. I just feel bad for the young men and women trying to deal with what I can see is a toxic work culture. read more

Very friendly hostess that greeted us immediately when we arrived and sat us right away. They were relatively busy for a late lunch/early dinner. It took awhile to be approached by a server but we were given two crisply baked tortillas and salsa as we were seated. The only way we saw to get chips and salsa was to order the tableside guacamole so we just enjoyed our two tortillas! Eventually our server came over and took our orders, he was very genuine and friendly. We ordered Skinny Margarita's and they were delicious, perfectly tart without all the sweetness. Hubby had the Birria Tacos which were amazing and I had the Shrimp Fajitas. Once our food was delivered we didn't see our server so didn't get any salsa or hot sauce for the fajitas, which they needed, but otherwise they were cooked perfectly with plenty of veggies. I come here often b/c I like their drinks. My go to drink is the Santiago. It is a special order & isn't on the menu anymore. It's basically a nutcracker(different kinds of liquors such as vodka, rum, tequila and cognac, mixed with fruit juices)but w/ cherries inside. I always ask an older staff member for them to make it for me. That's how long I've been coming here. As soon as you sit down @ the bar or tables a waiter/waitress brings a fresh bunch of tortilla chips & salsa for free. Refills are free as well which is dangerous b/c I can eat a whole basket by myself. By the time the food comes out I'm stuffed so I try my hardest not to overdue it.My go to food is the shrimp quesadilla or shrimp tacos. The only thing about the tacos they use flour tortilla instead corn. On the weekends it turns into a party almost like a club. They have music & sometimes a live DJ. It's a good vibe! We have been customers for years. We stopped in for dinner recently. We were given two large tasteless chips and salsa. Not the usual corn chips and salsa. The menu has definitely changed. My husband had the steak fajitas. They were good. I order the rib eye steak, it came with plantains and guacamole. The steak a very poor cut completely loaded with fat and it was covered in brown a sauce. I thought this is just an off night. I took the steak home hoping I could remove the fat and use it in a salad. It was still inedible so I threw it out. At the end of dinner the waiter came with a scan code to leave a review. He then insisted we do it right then in front of him. So feeling pressured and uncomfortable I left a quick review. It's sad because we always enjoyed this restaurant. read more

Been coming here on and off for years now, but have to say I'll be looking for a new Mexican restaurant after the last experience. A few lowlights: 1. Though they gave out a kids activity sheet, no writing implements were supplied resulting in the kids lamenting while we awaited food. (You might as well stop giving them out) 2. Like many places now-a-days, the portions--both drink and food--seemed to have taken a sizable hit while prices have gone up. While PV hasn't ever been "cheep", at least the price:food perception was properly balanced, even accounting for inflation. 3. Speaking of food. Both their nachos and taco salad were just--in a word--bland. The chicken was under seasoned and their construction juvenile. Lastly. To whomever decided to replace the complimentary basket of chips with baked flour tortillas, who hurt you? And to management who obviously did it as a way to cut costs, you'd be better to just stop providing anything at all. Nobody's eating them and the plate just gets in the way. In conclusion, I must regretfully suggest that you find another restaurant to enjoy. Which is a shame, because again while it may never had been stellar, at least I hadn't regretted my patronage. read more

I've enjoyed dining at Puerta Vallarta over time. Having lunch here last week reminded me that portion sizes have decreased in recent years in most restaurants. I prefer the nachos they used to give before the meal to the crisps offered this time around. I think the quality of the meat used to be better as well. The good news is that, as always, service was prompt and efficient. The decor is colorful and the atmosphere lively. Let me preface by saying I LOVE this place, usually. The Fairfield location has always had spot on, hot, fresh, flavorful steak and guac and the Danbury location ALWAYS entices my kids and I to stay until dessert- (those fresh, soft, flavorful churros are to die for). Today, however, we tried the Milford location as we were headed to the arcade at the mall afterwards, and we needed a good energy boost beforehand. We started with the tableside guac, our fave at the other locations, and it was great. Our drinks came out perfect as well- kids were so excited for extra cherries in their Shirley Temples (at least 6 in each, a kids dream!) and I got a small margarita, (equally as dreamy for me). Best day ever, right? Unfortunately, that's where the good experience ended- as my main, the taco salad came out. Now, when I think of a taco salad I think a base of lettuce, salad fixins (tomato, corn, carrots etc..) and a protein on top (chicken, steak, shrimp). When I received my salad, however, and the picture will show, there was maybe, 1/4 cup of lettuce at the bottom and a plethora of shredded chicken with a dab of melted cheese in a shell. I asked for more lettuce and I got a small side bowl of it, with the waiter explaining I should have ordered a different salad- that the chef said this "salad" was how it usually came. I'll let you be the judge here but in my experience (I've been around the taco salad block) I've never seen a "taco salad" (advertised exactly this way) without, well, salad... The waiter did offer to send it back and change it, so 2 stars for him, but I hate complaining so I just asked for the check (I paid for the slab of chicken in a shell) and we walked out. Kids were so sad we missed the churros, but I'll bring them to Danbury for those. Bummer. read more

idk why my mom loves to drag the family all the way out here we literally have a puerto vallarta in stamford our waitress was sooo sweet! parents ordered coffee and the mugs were really cute. the coffee was a bit watered down but it's whatever. I ordered the macho burrito w ground beef and maybe by the word "macho" I should have taken the hint that it was gonna be big asl but I only ordered it bc it said it came with rice, beans, red salsa, cheese, lettuce, etc. and it sounded a lot like a chipotle burrito. but when it got to the table I couldnt even pick it up bc it was so huge and was drenched in like the juices of the stuff that came on TOP of the burrito, not even inside of the burrito. and honestly idk what could have made my burrito so wet bro it only had like tomato and lettuce and a dallop of sour cream on top of it and I think melted cheese UNDER the burrito? but none of that should produce enough water to make a puddle on my plate so idk. inside of the burrito was only the beef and beans and the rice I think? i couldn't really tell tbh. so there I was eating my burrito with a fork and knife. and then when I tried to order another coke my mom was like no that's too much sugar and ur literally going to get a dessert so I was already unpleased with my burrito and now my mom just pmo (pissed me off) extra by making me get a WATER for dessert I got the chocolate molten cake I'm pretty sure that's what it was called and it came in a molcajete which was so cute I think it was shaped like a pig? anyway it was sooooo goooooooddddddddddd the chocolate cake w the warm melted chocolate on the inside and then a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top yum yum yum. it came with ONE single strawberry tho like why not just go all out with 3 or 4. why stop at 1. the dessert DEFINITELY made up for the entree tho and I was able to forgive my mom for not letting me get a 2nd coke. The food quality was okay overall but the Pica entree was not comparable to the price. I maybe had 5 pieces of steak. It was mostly potatoes and yucca. The yucca was tasty. My friend and I took our kids here after a play date for a quick bite. Everything was very typical, and nothing really stood out flavor wise. Our waters were left empty and they forgot the extra napkins we had asked for (important with kids), but most disappointing was my taco salad (pictured). Usually when I order a taco salad somewhere the shell is filled with lettuce and food, but mine was practically empty, and for the price I definitely should have been given more. They do get points in my book for the children's meals, though. They kids enjoyed their food, so at least they were happy. I probably won't return though. read more

The guacamole needed more salt (we ended up adding the table salt to mix it in) and cilantro. My food wasn't hot when it arrived & the shrimp didn't taste fresh + over cooked. Pros: -Friendly enough staff -The establishment appears clean -Plenty of parking -Looks like a well stocked bar -Large enough menu -Good amount of meat included in meal Cons: -GREASY. Like dripping plate of shiny orange fat greasy. Like don't bother finishing your meal because it's not worth the aftermath greasy. -Expensive. I understand we are dealing with inflation but the prices are definitely in the upscale dining range and this is not an upscale experience. -No prices on the drink menu.
