Always a great time coming to Bar140, it's a neighborhood bar located in downtown Shelton with cozy vibes and great food and drink. Bar 140 is known for their French fries and dipping sauce, perfect to paid with a drink or two. They have a small and a large size, the small is great for 2, order the large if you have 3 or more, it's is quite big. I love their sauces specifically the peppercorn and cajun, perfect pair. They always have a solid list of draft beer, good varieties. Also, they have a nice cocktail menu, my wife got a cocktail with taro tea in it, she loved it especially since it was different. The bartender was very friendly quick, she was on the money bringing out food in a timely manner. Had a fun and delicious dinner here. We brought the kids and sat in the back room. We got a large fry, sliders, the house salad, the chicken tacos, and their special-- a smash burger with pickles. Everything was great, especially the burgers. I heard they get their meat from stone gardens, a grocer in town who sells local, organic meat. You can really tell that it's high quality. Love this place! Of course we were with some very dear friends so that makes any place great, but this place is so cool! Fries with dipping sauces are a must have! I had a great burger and others had tacos. We loved the atmosphere and service. Beer selection was impressive. Seems like a great place to hang out so I'll be back for sure. We parked on a side street nearby. Plan to park close enough for a couple minute walk or to drop off anyone who doesn't want to walk. It's a safe and interesting part of town so the walk is a bonus in my view. One of my favorite restaurants in Shelton hands down!! I come here any chance I get, but since they aren't open for lunch anymore, happy hour it is. One of my favorite waiters is Moe. He is so chill and accommodating. Food: I've tried a lot of things on the menu, and everything has been delectable. My go-to is the Belgian frites and the tacos. My bf tried one of the burgers (I believe it's the one that has everything on it) and loved it. I am ashamed to say that I haven't tried the spiked cupcakes, but maybe one day I'll sneak that into a take-out bag. Service: Never one complaint. Never. They are more than happy to help. Even the owner came in one time and helped the waitress when she was backed up. They listen and usually get my order spot on. Every time I have a question about something they explain things very thoroughly. It's as if they memorize the menu. Although, it is pretty small, so that's not totally unbelievable. Atmosphere: Very quaint little bar with seating area further in the bar. I love sitting at the bar, though, because the bartender/waiter is usually pretty interesting. This is arguably the best food I've had in Connecticut. Their frites put Rudy's in New Haven to shame. Their soups are PHENOMENAL (I've had the tomato bisque with lump crab meat, and the baked potato chowder). The tacos are solid (I'm partial to the chicken), and their thanksgiving turkey burger special with cranberry mayo was also very good. The portions are generous, and the prices are modest (and they include tax). I wish I was in this area more often. I would eat here once a week. Their beer selection and curated wines are top notch, allowing for a good variety and their burger is one of the best in the immediate area, no contest. On my last visit, I decided to go rogue and order the special, apoke bowl with beef and it was super duper delicious and surprisingly unexpected (in a great way). Great little spot in Shelton for happy hour drinks. Anything on the menu that is less than $6 is BOGO. Also, each person can get a basket of fries with a choice of sauce (I had the peppercorn sauce which was delicious). The service was amazing -- We sat at the bar and the bartender was very attentive, making sure that our drinks were filled at all times and that we were getting the best bang for our buck at the happy hour (which ends at 6 pm). Cool thing about this place is that they even have happy hour on the weekends! Huge plus since most bars only serve happy hour specials during the week. The ambiance is great -- The bar is small, funky and chic. Although we didn't eat a full dinner here, we saw couple next to us splitting a burger and it looked amazing. My favorite bar/burger place in shelton area. A true "Brooklyn" hipster feel when you walk in. The frites are incredible and the dipping sauces are mouth watering. I've gotten the burger and turkey burger. Both are great but prefer the burger to the turkey. They are steamed; Melts in your mouth. Everytime I eat here I leave with a smile on my face. For its location and size, Bar140 can always be counted on for a reliable place to gather together. Their food is top notch and their fries (as well as tacos) are reasonably priced and delicious. The peppercorn sauce is addictive so be careful! The owners and workers there are all splendid people who really have a passion for their work, and it shows in how they interact with customers, you always feel welcome there. The acoustics in there can be difficult for folks with hearing impairments or sensory issues as it can get loud fast, but the staff there are pretty great about turning the music down if you ask them. Turns out the reviews were right! The fries are off the chain! Locally sourced and hand cut daily, blanch fried and then fried again per order. Huge portions that are tender inside and crispy outside and never got soggy. Now the protein style turkey burger was outstanding on its own topped with hand cut slab pork belly onsite and cranberry aioli. First let me start by saying..5's are hard to get from me but Bar 140 is a solid "5". We used Yelp to find a "new to us" place to eat Saturday night and the reviews for the Frites won us over. When we first pulled up, I didn't know what to expect. You could tell it was mostly locals and it had the feel of a friendly neighborhood bar. We aren't big bar people but enjoy bar food so we were excited. We sat in a room separate from the bar area. We ordered the Frites and the waitress was kind enough to tell us that our large order was way too much for 2 people. (She said it is 8 large potatoes), so we went with the small and chose 2 of the many different selections of dipping sauce. PLENTY for 2. They were the best fries I've had in a long time. Different from the usual but I'm not sure what they do to them to even be able to honestly compare. They were just "different" but in a great way. My husband ordered 2 chicken tacos and he said they were very good. I ordered the sliders which had SO MUCH flavor. Not your usual burger at all. I was only able to eat one because I had eaten too many frites. :). But my husband was quite happy to have the other one. The salad was super fresh and delicious as well. A ton for French fries and a few different options for dipping sauces make it that much better. Fries get a four out of five. stars. Beer selection is fairly decent for a small joint and impressive. Bar 140 is perfectly located in downtown Shelton and, luckily for us, walkable from our place. I LOVE this bar - the vibe is perfect. Low-key with excellent choices in craft beer and creative cocktails. The bartenders are top notch - always friendly and helpful. We've eaten here two or three times - perfect bar food menu. Their fries are SO delicious and great while drinking a cold Gandhi-Bot or Fuzzy Baby Ducks (YUM!). I usually opts for their fish tacos and my husband gets a burger of some sort. Food menu is small, but all are winners. Specials weekly never miss. Potatoe and bacon soup is as good as it sounds. They need to bring back the escargots in gorgonzola suace. Best wayto eat snails! Came into town after hours of traffic and were looking for a beer and some good eats. We saw this place on Yelp and decided to give it a shot. It's a tight little space but very warm and welcoming. Super relaxed, with some really cool decor. Very clean. Didn't have a ton of taps but had an excellent variety, on top of the multitude of stuff they had in cans and bottles. Wine and a full bar too, saw what looked like some really interesting cocktails written on the wall behind the bar too. Virtually all craft beers, which was right up our alley. We started with a basket of fries, which were fantastic and full of flavor on their own, coupled with three dips of our choice. I highly recommend the Sriracha Mayonnaise and the Curry Ketchup! Their dinner selection was smaller, but if you wanted a book of a menu, the diner is probably your thing. For those who are vegan, they have a few options here for you as well! It looked like a ton of their ingredients and meats were locally sourced too! For dinner, I had the vegan burger which came with fresh pico on Texas toast and a side of mixed greens. It was excellent, using black beans for a base with onions, green and red peppers, and jalapeño, and I enjoyed every single bite.
