I have never been to an establishment that refuses to allow anyone under 21 inside to simply eat, especially at 3 pm on a Sunday. This is not a club on a Friday night. We were turned away because my cousin is 20. If we were able to provide proof of guardianship, we would have been allowed in. Who walks into a restaurant with legal papers showing you are the guardian?? When we asked the waitress why we couldn't just eat, she was very dismissive, rude and did not explain why this is their rule, she simply stated "its a cafe liquor license". My husband and I have been here over a dozen times and have only been carded half of the time, and we've ordered alcohol everytime. Riddle me that. There has never been any expectation to be 21 to just walk in. All of a sudden we can't let a 20 year old just get lunch with a water? I'm sure they got themselves into an underage drinking disaster but that shouldn't affect everyone else. I understand the rules are written on the website, but we've never had an issue previously so why would I think to check if I needed to bring guardianship paperwork with me? I'm surprised I didn't hear the hype about this place until last week! My brother convinced our group to take the 45 minute drive to try it out, and thankfully the 7 of us snagged a table instantly. As first time visitors, the flavor selection for the wings was pretty overwhelming - we asked for recommendations. I can't remember what everyone got, but I ordered the 10 piece Maple Buffalo. I ordered the Parmesan Butter Bacon Garlic Burger, which was good overall, but not exactly what I expected. I thought the parmesan butter bacon garlic sauce would be more of a sauce, but it ended up being more of a spread. Still a solid burger, just different than what I had in mind. For wings, I got the peanut butter and jelly wings, which were served with fluff, and they were so good and so unique. Definitely something I've never had before and absolutely worth trying. My boyfriend ordered the blue cheesy bacon wings, which were good, although they seemed to have no bacon. He also tried the classic hot wings, which were solid as well. The Dew Drop Inn seriously has so many options of wing flavors! That said, the staff isn't always the friendliest. I've been a few times and both times the guy at the door was pretty standoffish. Drove an hour and a half just to try the 2nd best wings in Connecticut and we were not disappointed. We will be thinking of the peanut butter and jelly wings dipped in fluff forever and will have to be back sooner than later. All of the things were perfectly crispy. I came here with some friends and my cousin. My friends said they were going to Dew Drop Inn and invited my cousin and I to come. Also, I wanted to give them another try because I came here years ago, and the wings were good. Their wings start at twelve dollars for six wings, so it's about two dollars a wing. Also, you can't mix the flavors when ordering the wings. You have to order a set of wings for each flavor, which can be expensive. I ordered the Sweet Chili Asian wings, and my other friends ordered from the not-so-basic wing menu, which has outrageous wing flavors. I didn't try their wings, but they said they enjoyed them. I stick with basic wings because I need to know how they taste before proceeding. Since I haven't been there in years, I kept it simple. The wings I ordered were okay, but missing flavor and seasoning. I have noticed places that make wings miss the mark with seasoning. The establishments just fry the wings and put sauce on them. The sauce was delicious, but if the flavor and seasoning are missing, then for me, it misses the mark. Unpopular opinion, not the best wings. We tried a bunch of different ones, personally I felt the actual wings were a little dry. The sauces are definitely what makes this place a big deal. As much as I love heat I didn't care for the spiciest sauce, it's a habanero base but it just doesn't have any flavor or maybe vinegar. If you've ever had Korean fried chicken with a soy glaze, it had a very similar flavor profile:savory, slightly sweet, super addictive. The best part? It came with a fluffy dipping sauce. So fun. The wings were crispy and tender, easily my favorite of the night. Hot Garlic Butter (my girlfriend's pick): This one leaned more toward a classic buffalo-style sauce. Delicious, with chunks of garlic throughout. Not the most adventurous flavor, but exactly what we needed for a little spice. It had so many different types of wing flavors you can choose from. Too many that I don't know what to get. We asked the lady behind the bar to help us decide. We stopped in last night. This bar is known for the best wings in Connecticut. They have over 110 wing flavors. We went with a not so basic Honey Teriyaki and waffle fries. Our food was good, but nothing extraordinary. The waitresses were sweet and checked in often. Since it was a Tuesday night around 9pm it was pretty quiet. We got our food promptly. They were playing the world series games on several tvs most of the patrons were watching it. They check ID as soon as you walk in. They are very strict about it. I saw them turn away young students because of expired IDs. This is our second time stopping when in the area. Last time it was on a Saturday night and it was insanely busy. I don't get the hype. We drove about an hour out to this spot after hearing great things about their wings and large selection. Sliders really fell off over the last few years so I've been looking for a new spot. The parking lot is tiny. The place is definitely a dive. Don't mind these things, just letting you know what to expect. Get there by 3 or you won't find parking or a seat! I appreciate their large selection of draft beer with plenty of local breweries on tap. Their food menu is huge considering they're known for their wings. So even if you want something ride there's plenty to choose from. We had pretzel bites to start and the cheese was so good I actually took the leftovers home! On to the wings: Hot buffalo was under sauced and seemed more like mild. Mango Teriyaki BBQ - where's the mango? They were ok. Cajun Garlic Butter was by far the best. Great flavor. A little heat but still nice and garlicky. The wings were average size and not quite as crispy as I'd like but still not a bad wing overall. I guess I expected a lot more and maybe that's why I was disappointed. Prices aren't exactly cheap either! These are 1 of the top 2 best wings you can get in the state of Connecticut. Whether it's the first or second can be debated. Dew Drop is located in an unassuming, damn-near isolated bar in Derby, CT. From the outside, it looks like a place where bikers would congregate and on the inside it kind of looks like it too, but what you can't see from an initial visual inspection is that they are slinging serious magic in that kitchen. If that's not your vibe, do not be deterred, I promise it's worth it. If you're like my friends and I who have to go out of our way to get here, you're probably here for the wings. Get the wings. They're not cheap and the price increases based on the category of sauce you get. I recommend getting at least two flavors. Speaking of flavors, there are a lot, like way more than you will ever have a chance to try. Many of them are traditional styles and remixed or combination variations of others. There's a very popular Facebook group that I below to that I won't mention for fear of getting this review taken down... But in that group Dew Drop Inn FREQUENTLY comes up as the place in Connecticut with the best wings. So my wife and I made the hour drive from Newington to Derby to see what all the hype was about! Atmosphere/Appearance: Let me tell you. It's a windy road to get here. Lol. But set right at a very non-traditional intersection of North Avenue & Roosevelt Drive is this gem. The outside doesn't look like much at all and there's maybe 6 parking spots to the left of the restaurant then there's another business across the street that MAY allow you to park there. At your own risk of course. Once on the inside the spot looks super modern and energetic. The back wall is all brick, the walls are painted with solid colors and there's a lil' easter egg to the right of the front entrance of The Incredible Hulk busting through the wall holding a plate of wings. Lol. Service: We sat right at the bar and the owner Jason was there so he was serving us directly. He was funny, accommodating and just was a genuine good time. Hiba, Meghan and Rachel were also very accommodating. Food: So while here I tried 7 different flavors of the 126 that are offered. I'll break them down one by one... Pink Peppercorn Lemon Thyme: They came out of the kitchen SO HOT. Lol, so be careful not to burn your mouth. They were AMAZING. Deliciously salty from the Himalayan sea salt, lemony and rounded out with some good Earthy flavors. Pink Peppercorn Lemon Curd: This is basically everything I described above, but with a delicious sauce on top. The sauce was a little honey-strawberry-lemon sweetness that complemented the wing excellently. Cilantro Lime Tahini: The cilantro flavor was an excellent base, but this may sound strange... but it almost tasted like refried beans. There was also a good cheesy flavor involved as well. It was so different and executed very well. Not a spicy wing for those that can't handle it. Cajun Garlic Butter Bacon: These were easily the tastiest "looking" wings due to all of the bacon pieces on top and they smelled simply incredible. Again, temperature hot, but these tasted like they were cooked IN a garlic oil. My goodness. The bacon added a meaty, hearty, salty, bacon-y flavor that just went well with the garlic and Cajun seasoning. Truffalo: This one is easy. Truffle and Buffalo mixed together. Excellent. I'm truffle-biased so of course I'd love these, but I could've used more truffle if I'm being honest. Strawberry Habanero: These were refreshing.. The strawberry flavor was very prevalent and it reminded me of a sweet & sour from a Chinese restaurant, buy elevated. I didn't get a lot of heat from these despite the name, but I loved it. Ghostly Habanero: While I didn't find the heat in the last flavor, it was all here. This was the hottest flavor on the menu at the time and rightfully so. These wings were gritty, sweet from the peppers and the heat was INSTANT. The habanero gave that initial jumpstart of heat, but the ghost pepper is the one that ramps up over time. It took about 3 minutes for the heat to FULLY kick in, but it definitely did. I teared up, I was sweating and this is not a wing I could eat a whole bunch of. Delicious though! Peanut Butter & Jelly: These were the hottest temperature wings we've had. Lol. Peanut butter is so incredibly dense so it just held all of that heat in. These were served with fluff as a dipping sauce. They were savory and sweet. Done very well. Value: Chicken wings are already expensive on their own, so adding this level of skillset to cook them, the materials and all brings an order of 6 to $10.99 for "Basic Flavors". "Not So Basic" is 6 for $11.75 and "Basically Ridiculous" as well as "Dessert" wings are 6 for $11.99. You can of course order them in bigger denominations, but there are 100% worth it. In conclusion, sadly, I haven't been back here since June of 2022, but I want to come back SO BAD. It's just literally an hour away from where I live. Lol. I will be back Jason! The Dew Drop Inn is definitely worth checking out if you're into quirky, creative wing flavors. It's a dark dive-bar atmosphere with some TVs on with various games playing, but the wings are the real star. We tried four flavors: jalapeño cream cheese, coffee rubbed, butter bacon, and chili lime tahini. All were super fun, unique, and tasty. They came out in good time, too. Drinks were solid but very inconsistent from round to round. I ordered a blueberry pineapple tequila, sour x 2 and they tasted like two seperate drinks each time. The one downside was the staff, who didn't come across as very friendly. We asked not to be seated near the bathrooms (a personal pet peeve) and were willing to wait, but were met with an eye-roll vibe and then seated right next to the bathrooms anyway, which just felt odd. Sadly, I was so excited to try this place and will probably never come back. I had drove almost an hour here and someone in our group had forgotten their ID but had a picture of it on their phone. Meghan, one of the staff members said she'll let the digital photo ID slide this time, but she wasn't very welcoming. She then complained to us saying that if she had to call her manager and asked the digital ID, then her manager would yell at her (we didn't request a manager, she's the one that brought it up) so i'm not sure why she immediately mentioned that and i guess that's why she was "letting it slide". We also had someone who was 20 in our group and they were being asked for their ID but she didn't have it on her and obviously was not drinking since she's underage. We didn't realize they had specific policies, which their policies are totally understandable, however Meghan, was unkind, unwelcoming, and unfortunately, showed the opposite of great hospitality. She mentioned that before you walk in, there's a sign that mentions the ID requirements, but it night time, lower to the ground, and faded. How're we supposed to read that!? Took a curling class at the Nutmeg Curling Club (highly recommend by the way!) and was coming from the Southington area. Some friends and I had been dying to try Dew Drop so thought this was the perfect opportunity! It is a tiny hole in the wall!!! Parking is on Park St up the hill a bit if there's nothing out front - there's maybe room for 5-6 cars next to the restaurant. We tried a smorgasboard of super fun wing flavors. There were 6 of us which worked out perfectly as we ordered 8 orders of 6 wings so we could try a bunch of them. We tried the Jack Daniel Horseradish, garlic bacon butter parm, wasabi ranch, sweet chili, Korean bbq, maple bourbon, gorgonzola bacon and hot honey. All the flavors were delicious and their presentation was great. They served the Gorgonzola bacon with a side of buffalo which was the perfect paring. The wasabi ranch was surprising and super tasty. My favorites were the Hot Honey and Garlic bacon butter parm. We also got a Ceasar salad - it was overdressed and nothing special but fine, and some pretzel bites with cheese and mustard which were really good. Their cocktail menu was creative - I had a cheery limeade which was light and perfectly sweet and sour. Overall, the wings were delicious. If I was in the area, I'd absolutely return. But with that being said - we have both Groggy Frog's and J Tim's dirt style wings a few miles away. I am no wing connoisseur but these two places certainly at least rival Dew Drop. For the first time I couldn't get parking just out front, but discovered there's a public lot just up the road with a short walking distance. I came to show my man (from NY) one of the best wings spots CT has to offer. Service was quick and friendly. After I ordered a spicy cucumber basil margarita that had a very weak cucumber basil taste and wasn't so spicy, I opted out of their mixed drinks and stuck with beer for the rest of the night. Maybe it should have been muddled better or even garnished with a basil leaf, maybe the taste wouldn't have been so weak. It was disappointing. The hot ginger molasses wings wasn't hot and didn't taste like ginger. The Cajun butter garlic bacon was super delicious but I couldn't taste the Cajun spice. We also tried jalapeño cream cheese. The loaded waffles fries were extra crispy and tasted great. We will definitely come back again and try some more flavors, hopefully something with a hotter spice level. Went there 1:30 PM on a Thursday and they refused to seat the two of us at one of the three empty tables of four. Said we would have to wait or sit at the bar. Their reason is that if they let us sit there then other couples would want tables also and there would be no room for them. Their Peanut Butter & Jelly wings are incredible! They're covered in peanut butter and jelly and come with Fluff for dipping. It sounds gross, but trust me, just try it. If you're less adventurous with your wing flavors, they have plenty of more normal flavors, like Nashville Hot, which are delicious and packed some good heat. Best Chicken Wings in CT! Little Hole in the wall Bar on a side street, be careful or you'll miss it! Ample parking on the left in the communter lot right past the restaurant. They have a full menu as well as over 100 chicken wing flavors. Their wings cannot be beat. The Hot Garlic Butter wings are my favorite. Pretzel Bites appetizer is bomb. Curly fries are good. Their cocktails are always great! Service is always on point, no matter how busy they are. Staff is friendly, attentive & willing to make suggestions for food or drinks upon request. These chicken wings are from The Dew Drop inn in Derby Connecticut. In the years I've lived here I've been. Told this is one of Connecticut's best wings. Cajun dry rub wings. 6 for 11.50. They said ten minutes and then came out in 6 minutes. Polite and efficient ladies, easy on the eyes. Speaking of the wing alone , not the seasonings. That may have been the most perfectly cooked wing I've ever had. Delivered hot and fully cooked , the skin was so crispy and the wing was juicy. Perfectly executed. Cajun dry rub. I hoped for heat on those Cajun wings and they delivered. But WHOA !! Enough salt to pop my bp monitor !! Luckily for me they became more palpable once I dunked them into the blue cheese dressing. The crispiest wings with so many creative flavors that wings have their own menu! I sat at the bar and every bartender was extremely attentive and friendly. Parking is limited near the entrance but there is an additional parking lot further down the road. I will definitely be back! read more

Was a little nervous because the service was slow. However, they were short handed so we hung in there. Glad we did. The wings were great! Cajun Garlic Butter was a flavor I had never had. It was tremendous. I did not have the intestinal fortitude to try the dessert wings but if they were anywhere near the others, I should have. 5 stars. I won't knock anyone for being short handed.
