Awesome place to grab a pint and food! Nestled next to the walking trails, it's a good place for people watching on a nice day. My friend and I thought we would grab a bite for dinner from here and I'm so happy that we did! There is an extensive selection of beers, ciders, and specialty cocktails. The food menu also offers something for everybody! I decided to give the birria tacos special a try, while my friend ordered the smoked meatloaf sandwich. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Have been to Mikro a handful of times - always good. Cool vibe. Tonight came with my parents and sat to the left of where you walk in to get away from the bar. Although chilly in here, we had a nice time. My parents loved the food too which was great. Tonight I got the Arepa which apparently, I won't get again because it's the second time I've had it (not here the first time) and didn't care for it. The pulled pork on top was good though I just don't care for the dish itself. A bit bland. My picture unfortunately didn't come out good for that dish. My dad got the Panko Crusted Fish Sandwich and my mom got the nachos. They loved what they got. I think of Mikro as one of CT's early Gastro Pubs. I hadn't been for a while until I visited this Summer for a Vermont Burger. The Vermont Burger came with candied bacon, Vermont Cheddar, BBQ Sauce, lettuce, red onion and pickle on Brioche. I ordered it medium rare, it was closer to medium well, but the meat was high quality and it was a sizable burger. The toppings were good. I loved the onion rings. They were the thick kind, and well executed. They offered salt and vinegar seasoning, which I had never seen before for rings. Very tasty. The vibe is kind of dark inside. Stopped in on a Sunday at the tail end of brunch, but decided to wait a few minutes and order from the regular menu instead. We sat outside on their patio which is very nice. They are right on the rail trail if you enjoy cycling, but it also offers some good people (and dog!) watching lol. Server was great. She brought our drinks out quickly and was patient while we waited to order. We got their poutine to start, and a couple sandwiches with greens. The poutine was fine, but not great. I missed the big cheese curds and we had to ask for more gravy (which was extra), plus I felt like overall it was a touch under seasoned. I got a grilled cheese that had some greens and fig spread on it which was quite tasty and crunchy, and my husband had the smoked meatloaf sandwich that was very good and generously filled with meatloaf. We made a reservation for 4 on a Friday and I'm glad we did because it was very busy. I loved the layout of the bar area, it was really cool in there. Drinks were great, I really liked my margarita. Food came quick too. Meals were super fresh and delicious. I got the crispy chicken caprese sandwich, it was a big sandwich and tasted great. I got the Ceasar salad for my side which I was happy with, but the hand-cut fries would also be a great addition to any meal. We saw this on a blog and decided to take a ride to check it out. We were seated right away, server also touched the table fairly quickly. We decided to dive into apps so we can try the most. The pork belly bites were crispy, but tender. Cooked really well, sauced appropriately, we did the pineapple bbq . Definitely worth getting The smoked wings, we opted for the dry rub, fall off the bone with a little crispiness on the skin. The dry rub was excellent The onion rings, honestly were my least favorite. The onion rings them selves were good but they did a salt and vinegar dust which would have been good had it not just been on 1 onion ring, on one side. Most were plain. The fried chickpeas tossed in curry were spot on! These were the perfect snack, we ate the rest in the morning. We walk the trail often and always pass Mikro, but we never had a chance to try it until recently. We went for my husband's birthday lunch. It was pretty crowded, but with their large seating area, it didn't feel loud or cramped. The service was good and prompt. The menu has only a few vegetarian options, and I think I tried all of them. Mikro is a really cool and unique spot right next to the Farmington Canal Trail. Their rotation of what's available on tap changes frequently. Inside is very warm and cozy. They also have cocktails! I've been watching to try this place for awhile and finally gave it a try after a run club. This place is delicious, staff is friendly, cozy inside. We went during brunch time on Sunday and they accommodated a large group easily. The drug options were great. For food, I got the hash egg benny, it was fantastic. Very cool spot, entering through (what appears to be) an old train depot. The server was very attentive and checked on us regularly. We went for brunch, first time here. We started with the hearth baked pretzel. Super soft and just the right amount of salt. The deviled eggs had a great twist, with a slight hit of bbq sauce to sweeten the saltiness of the bacon. This restaurant was once a train station, which gives it a very unique and trendy vibe. Light wood trim and a combination of regular and high tables, with graphic art depicting the beers on tap. The food is reasonably priced and so good! We went for Sunday bruch and there was a good variety of options. Everything came out fast and hot. Mikro Depot is a hidden Hamden gem and checks off all the boxes for all things subtle yet beautiful. The feel of this restaurant is amazing, warm and welcoming. The menu is small, but perfectly so. There's something for every palate! For an app, we ordered the potato pancakes off the specials menu and for an entree I ordered the burger because I could not choose just one option. Burger was tasty and hit the spot! My husband got the grilled cheese and let me just say...apple butter on a grilled cheese is something I've never tried before and it was so yummy. Everything was delish and we're totally going back. And we also ended with dessert, which was the most decadent banana cake! OH I forgot to mention that the beer selections are epic. I had von Trapp fest bier and it was perfect on a slightly chilly evening dining al fresco. I decided, out of all things, to sit outside at a table. Never would I ever but it was super nice outside so I tried it out. I sat for 15 minutes and no one approached me. I had to wave down a gentleman to take my order who said that they may have an order the Tequila Mussels that I ordered. While I put in a replacement order just in case the gentlemen never came back. A very nice guy who I believe was bartender brought me my Beermosa which was delicious. At this point it has been 20 minutes and I still wasn't welcomed and approached by any server. I had to wave down a female server to tell her the situation. While she seemed understanding, she never confirmed whether she was my server or not. To be honest, I always sit at the bar and always have a great time. I ultimately ended up eating at the bar and my experience became 10x better. MiKro Depot is a craft beer bar and gastropub that opened in Hamden, Connecticut in 2010. It was founded by restaurateur Mike Farber. In his 40+ year career in the restaurant industry, Farber has owned several restaurants in Connecticut. He was the chef and co-owner (along with Robert Potter) of Prime 16: a popular gourmet burger and craft beer bar that opened in New Haven in 2008. The following year, as interest in craft beer began to take off in the state, Farber left Prime 16 to start his own venture. Located in a strip mall at 4000 Whitney Avenue, Farber dubbed his craft beer bar 'MiKro' (a reference to microbreweries and his own given name). Chef Mike Fox was hired to create delicious dishes that would compliment the beer, such as steamed PEI mussels made with a witbeer broth, chicken wings, poutine, bistro steak, and ale-braised bratwursts. In 2018, MiKro outgrew it's small strip mall location and moved into a larger location up the street at a former railroad depot. It now sits alongside the popular Farmington Canal Heritage Trail (a former railroad line) and is frequently visited by cyclists stopping by to quench their thirst. The new location features 19 draught beer lines, as well as several more beers available in bottles. In addition to their popular small plates, MiKro now makes sandwiches, burgers, salads, various entrees, and even wood-fired pizza. I've been going to MiKro for ten years. A good Belgian beer paired with MiKro's steamed mussels was always a great meal. My only complaint was that MiKro was too small and got crowded quickly. I was so happy when they moved to the larger location. I'm an avid cyclist so I cycle the rail trail often and frequently drop in at MiKro. I love how they integrated the history of the railroad depot into the interior design of the bar (including tap handles made from railroad spikes). Came to dinner with my cousin on a Saturday night and got seated right away :) I saw they had beer flights and our server, Jario did a great job at suggesting which beers I should give a try. We started off with the whipped ricotta and it was heaven in my mouth! I ordered the burger as my main dish, you get a choice of fries or a salad. The burger was scrumptious and the sauce on the side was great, just toss it all on there. For dessert, do not pass up those ice cream sandwiches, you won't regret it! I went to this restaurant today for first time. All I got was a pretzel which was really good. Price was $6.45 and you get mustard and beer cheese. I'm a mustard kind a person so the beer cheese wasn't for me. The staff was very pleasant. I wanted to try the grill cheese but didn't want to sit. Tired and wanted to go home. I will go back for lunch or dinner to try some other menu items. I say go try this restaurant and see what you think. I will write another review once I eat a meal instead. Pre pandemic really enjoyed this place - great beers, great music and love the architecture of the building. Went back recently and was disappointed. Hubby and I started with the chick pea appetizer which was as good as its always been. next, we moved onto the grilled cheeses sandwich and the Cuban and found both disappointing for different reasons . Had asked that the bread not be buttered because we were reducing calories and it came out greasy. when I asked, instead of using butter they used OIL? How does that save calories - now i have calories that have no flavor. When I questioned it, their response was - you're good - its not butter ! Misses the point of asking for it to not be butter toasted. Next time, if there is a next item, I wold just say - toast it dry but I've never had any other restaurant not understand that ask and use oil. The greens that came with my sandwich were so oily and over dressed I couldn't eat them. My grilled cheese did not have the contents spread evenly (see photo - a pile of kale in the center) and the ratio of bread to filling was off - a very dry sandwich except for the oil. Hubby did the French fry up charge ($4 - most places are $ 2) and the fries were not crisp; they were limp. The Cuban - the bread didn't hold up p the filing - maybe that sandwich belongs on the Texas toast so it is easier to enjoy the sandwich without it falling apart - the inside was good. We ate less than 50% of the food and the bartender didn't check in to see if the food was good and notice that we weren't eating it or ask if we wanted a second beer - she just asked us to close our check so she could go home. I debate between a 3 or a 2 but the price put the review at a 2 because hubby' sandwich with the fries was $ 20 and my meal was almost $ 17 and not really enjoyable. if we had been disappointed for less money, i likely would have given a 3 but when you are paying more for high end sandwiches, you have higher expectations. read more

We have been going to Mikro for years. And in our last 3 visits we have noticed a drastic decline in the quality of the food. Our last visit was the worst to date. I will save you the torrid details and say do not order the smoked meatloaf unless you like when the kitchen adds way too much liquid smoke! Sad to see the decline. The beer was great. 1st and foremost the service here is impeccable. You never lack for anything at your table. Servers are always checking on you and so pleasant. Food is great full of flavor and so many items to choose from. The fried chicken sandwich is really good along with the mikro burger. The cauliflower was surprisingly good. Didn't really care for the shorts ribs over polenta. Polenta seem plain and lacked flavor. But didn't stop me from coming back. Came twice in one week. So that goes to tell you all is great at Mikro!
