This was our first visit and I can't wait to go back! Very nice place , with plenty of room. Whether your at the bar or here with your friends there was tables and large booth tables. Service was great and food was delivered quickly. The nachos was on point , that beer cheese was something special and we ate the whole thing. We enjoyed the bright, open atmosphere. Service was attentive and courteous. As you can see the spicy tuna on rice cakes were delicious. The chopped salad was as expected. We could walk from our hotel to this lively brewery with a nice outdoor beer garden. It was a nice evening so we headed over after reading positive reviews. Despite the road noise it was great being outside. We didn't check out the inside but it looked huge. After starting with their German pils - the Slip, which was very good, we ordered our meals with the friendly and hustling waitress. I got the sweet and spicy New Haven style pizza with soppressata and hot honey. It was excellent. My wife opted for the chicken blt with blackened chicken. It was a hit. Hall) Two professional organizations I belong to held a combined holiday party at Haven Beer last night. It was my first holiday party of the season, and our experience at Haven Beer was fantastic. The two-story business is huge with a main bar and lounge, a big taproom, a small private room decked out as a hockey Penalty Box, an outside Biergarten, a firepit, and an upstairs private room. Our party was in that upstairs room, with a bar and private restrooms. Our space was big enough for sit-down dinners for up to 50 people or a cocktail party for up to 80. Our room was beautifully decorated with Christmas lights, wreaths, garlands, and red bows. Before I even write about the food and drink, I have to rave about the service. Our three bartenders couldn't have been nicer. They were friendly and efficient and a real pleasure to interact with. We needed a few extra tables for raffle items and a sales display, and before I finished asking, the tables and tablecloths were in place. Haven's beer list includes some of their own and some guest brews. All beer styles are represented - New England IPAs, Czech lagers, Kolsch ales, Saison, Pilsners, Imperial Stouts, Fruit Weisses, English Pale Ale, and non-alcoholic. I had a pint of their Lustrous Czech-style pale lager (4.1%) and enjoyed it a lot. Our buffet dinner was excellent. We started off with three absolutely beautiful colorful charcuterie platters that looked magazine cover worthy. The main course included four big bowls of salads, one hot tray of chicken, roast potatoes, and broccoli rabe, and a second hot tray of beef and roasted onions over mashed potatoes. Haven was jumping last night, with a second private party downstairs and a big crowd at the bar and in the taproom. Which explains why parking was a challenge. Solid spot to grab a beer, have good eats, and hang with friends! This spot is fairly new, you can definitely tell by the new and beautiful interior designs! They have 3 different bar areas (2 in the main space and another draft area in another room for those who just want drinks). The space is huge and has so much seating! For both big and large parties. We got some pizzas and appetizers and everything was good! Fried pickles were what you would expect. Deviled eggs were an asian inspired dish with soy egg, wasabi filling and seaweed. Very interesting but tasty! And for the mashed potato pizza, I loved it, definitely better than New Haven style apizza. We got a flight of beer as well after dinner and everything we tried was good. Service was also excellent, with each person we interacted being super friendly and attentive. Food was hit or miss. Wings were tasty and big serving size. My husband and I recently had the chance to go to Haven together. He has been several times and always talked very highly of it. My first impression, was how beautiful and large the restaurant was. We had a reservation but it seemed they forgot about us as one of the hostesses came over and asked again if we had a reservation. She was apologizing and said she would go get our table ready right away. We were seated in the bar area in a small table against the wall. It was awkward at times when people standing at the bar got very close to the table. Additionally, our table was close to where servers picked up drinks and we overheard a lot of complaining during our meal. Our server was very friendly and attentive but the food was just average. Sadly, nothing stood out as being very good and memorable. My husband said he always had good meals prior to this visit so I'm not sure if it was because of how busy it was or just an off night. While it was not what I expected on this visit, I would give them another try at some point. read more

I came here with a group for a holiday event. We had the upstairs to ourselves which was beautiful and decorated for the holidays. Our group ordered several different dishes--nachos, pizzas, salads, etc. I ordered the Autumn Sangria, which was so yummy! The evening was lovely and we all had a great time. I will definitely be back with friends again in the future. The one thing I will note that was surprising was the parking situation. It's so packed, even on week nights. I've heard a lot about this place, and finally had a chance to check it out. It's a trendy restaurant with a pretty good brewery attached. We had to drive around the lot a few times until someone pulled out (I didn't see the rest of the weirdly-shaped shared parking lot until I was on my way out), and there was a maitre'd outside who greeted us. Already, I'm getting a bit worried. Then, inside, we were told it'd be a half an hour wait for a table... or we can go find a spot in the half-full bar area, which was more our speed, anyway. Evening saved! Their menus are on televisions that fade in and out about every fifteen seconds for absolutely no reason other than annoying you. Still, after a few go-arounds with the useless animations, we were able to read everything and place our first drink orders at the bar. I opted for a polotmavé (Czech amber) because I can't resist a new style; it was Czechy, it was ambery, so I'll assume it's the best paragon of the style for a beer made in Connecticut. She opted for a chipotle chocolate porter -- while I love spicy food, I can't handle spicy drinks. More power to her. Aside from burning the back of my throat, there were some tasty cacao notes in there. Next, came the food. We both had a big lunch, and opted for sandwiches, swapping the default fries for a side salad, an extra dollar be damned. The kitchen was surprisingly quick for a Saturday night, which is more than I could say for my wait at the bar for a second round. I can't blame a tipped worker for making nice with the customers, but when I'm blocking the last two free seats because I need to get a drink, let's just say the people waiting to sit down weren't too pleased. How about removing one seat so there can be a proper line? Thankfully, the food truly saved the evening. The fried fish in my sandwich had me wondering if this filet was once wrapped in newspaper at a chip shop. There was no choice of dressing on the humongous side salad (huh, that extra dollar really goes a long way), and while not a huge fan of Balsamic dressing, it complemented the fried coating and spicy remoulade so perfectly that I'd order it again. All in all, Haven is a new restaurant and they definitely need to iron out a few little annoyances, but they have a winning formula that can only improve from here. I ended up here randomly on a trip looking for lunch on my way home from Boston and stopped in without checking Yelp. I lucked out because I normally would have steered away from here based on the under 4 rating at the time on Yelp. Yelpers were wrong. This is a really solid spot. Very nice and efficient bartenders and the place is super clean. I loved the ambiance. It was welcoming and casual. The bar was very comfortable and you had a lot of space. I tried their Haven brand hazy. Very refreshing. I really enjoyed my Bianco pizza also. All the food around me looked picture perfect. Visiting our son at Quinnipiac parents weekend , we tried Haven Beer for lunch after a recommendation. Because we were there noon-ish, we were sat only after a few minutes, but given it was parents weekend, a reservation would have been the better idea. Just glad we didn't get there closer to 1:00. Our table got rigatoni alla vodka with shrimp, apple grilled cheese, and seared hanger steak. Everything was great, but the apple grilled cheese was the star. Last time I was here on a Monday night: -Food took well over an hour to come out - My Haven chicken parm was severely undercooked ( imagine Gordon Ramsay yelling "it's raw") -Server was nice and removed the meal, etc then proceeded to give us someone else's bill. Cut to the chase: It's a nice place. They clearly spent money making this place nice. It's also quite large especially when the weather is nice and the patio is open. On weekends it's very busy so expect to wait. Parking is tricky. So if you can't find a spot head over to the parking garage though you'll have to walk a bit. On weekends they have valet parking so you can just use that if you would like. They brew their own beer and also have beer from other local breweries. Food is decent not great. But ok for a brewery. We have been to Haven several times for drinks, but this weekend stopped in for dinner on the patio. We split three dishes: the melon salad, the popcorn shrimp lettuce wraps, and the ALT wrap. All three dishes were outstanding. Flavorful, fresh, and beautifully prepared. While the service in the bar can be quite slow, our server out on the patio was prompt, personable, and just a fun person to have wait on you! We had a 70th Birthday Party in September upstairs in the Skybox. Fantastic time! Ashley was on top of every detail I threw her way, was creative and intuitive as bartender, giving suggestions for specialty cocktails. She gave me immediate feedback during the weeks of planning for the event. The food was excellent! Everyone loved the chicken, salmon and sides. So many terrific appetizers and the price for the whole evening was very reasonable! I highly recommend having an event here. The only unreliable aspect was the elevator which broke. I was down bad. Like, country song playing in the rain while I stare out the window bad. Job? A mess. Relationships? Dumpster fire. Friends? MIA. I just needed a place to sit, clear my mind, and sip something stronger than my will to keep it together. I kept hearing whispers about Haven Beer Co, so I figured--why not? Let's see what the hype is about. Spoiler alert: they spelled it wrong. This place isn't Haven, it's HEAVEN. From the second I walked in, I was greeted with a warm smile and told to grab a seat at the bar. And that's when the magic began. Behind the bar were Chelsea and Brie--aka the Dynamic Duo of Drinks and Emotional Rescue. First up was Chelsea who was newer behind the bar but you could never tell, she makes cocktails like she's brewing ancient potions designed to heal heartbreak and restore hope. She explained the house-made drafts, recommended a cocktail, and next thing I knew, my shoulders relaxed for the first time in weeks. Round two? Brie took over. She brought the drinks and the sass. Brie serves with the kind of flair and charm that makes you reevaluate all your life choices--like trusting your ex or ever thinking boxed wine was okay. Suddenly, I wasn't thinking about my problems--I was just thinking about how soon I could order more food. Speaking of food: fire. I started with the bao buns (pillows of joy), and ended with the Haven Special pizza (a beautiful, cheesy masterpiece). Whoever's back in that kitchen deserves a standing ovation--or at least a sitcom deal. I already know my next order: vodka chicken sandwich or fish and chips. Maybe both. Don't judge me. That night, I walked in feeling like the world was against me. But for a few hours, thanks to Chelsea, Brie, and the culinary wizards in the back, I felt like the main character. Was it therapy? Went there for the first time tonight which was a Friday night. We were asked if we made reservations we said no we were not aware that we needed reservations. Asked if we wanted to sit at the bar or be put on the list for a table which was about a half hour wait. We said we would sit at the bar until a table was available. Sat at the bar ordered some appetizers. We ordered the steak, egg rolls and the boom boom shrimp and a couple drinks. Steak egg rolls were good. Boom boom shrimp was good but could use some spice. Definitely not spicy enough but was good. I wish I knew the waitresses name because she was very good friendly and was able to give us our drinks exactly as needed. Each one of us had three drinks we shared the boom boom shrimp and the steak egg rolls and left at 8:30. On the way home received a notification that a table was ready. I love the atmosphere. It was very crowded but not overly loud and overwhelming. I just really liked the atmosphere and the service food was good. I would go back there again. read more

Haven beer is a pretty sweet spot and very needed for the hamden area. This brewery is massive and has two sides to it an outdoor area and upstairs as well it seems. I like how they have their own draft beers and many good draft beers from other breweries as well. Their beers here are surprisingly pretty decent. We also got a bunch of food. I got the wings and they were good massive size and delicious. I would definitely recommend the spot and would come back. If I stayed in the area, this would be my go to spot. read more

I was recently in Hamden to visit my sister for a Christmas visit. She mentioned that Haven was a very good choice to eat because I was staying across the street at the residence Inn. I don't often write reviews, but I have to say it was an amazing experience. Our waiter, Jake, was absolutely terrific. His personality and enthusiasm was top-notch. That being said, the oysters were terrific, the shrimp, lettuce wraps absolutely amazing.. After years of visiting this area, I am so grateful and appreciative of the restaurant and the service. Haven Beer Company is a craft brewpub that opened in Hamden, Connecticut in February 2024. It was founded by business partners Bob Chicoine, Kevin Fitzsimmons, Keegan Dombrosky and David St. Onge. Chicoine and Fitzsimmons are also the owners of Dockside Brewery: a waterfront craft brewpub that opened in Milford in 2020. Following the success of that venture, Chicoine and Fitzsimmons learned of a vacant restaurant space in Hamden that was previously home to Mickey's Restaurant & Bar for many years. For the new venture, Dombrosky was hired as the brewmaster. He gained experience working at other Connecticut breweries such as Back East Brewing before he was hired as Dockside's new brewmaster in 2022. St. Onge, who has several years of experience in the hospitality business, also came on board as a partner. Haven Beer Company offers their own house beers as well as an excellent selection of guest taps, wine and craft cocktails. The curated food menu features steakhouse entrees, pasta & seafood dishes, burgers & sandwiches, salads, soups, and a wide variety of shareable plates. My son and I stopped in for lunch at Haven Beer just days after they opened their doors to the public. I really liked their logo, which is the observation tower at nearby Sleeping Giant State Park but stylized to resembled the letter H. The interior was beautiful and my favorite feature was the circular bar which could seat at least 40 guests. The bar has 30 beers available on draught. Haven Beer only have two house beers available so far, and their brew system isn't operational just yet (they're currently contract brewing out of East Rock Brewing), but their selection of guest taps was quite impressive. Heavy hitters such as Equilibrium, Other Half and Maine Beer were prominently featured. I tried both of Haven's house beers which included "Biergeld" (Helles Lager) and "Orientation" (New England IPA). Both were flavorful and refreshing! Their food menu had some flatbread pizzas featured as specials for the day. My son and I ordered and shared the "Queen Margherita" (heirloom tomatoes, basil, local Liuzzi mozzarella) and the "In A Pickle" (spicy pickle slices, dill, bacon, mozzarella, ranch aioli). Both pies were very flavorful and paired well with the beer. For dessert, we ordered and shared the "Stout Infused Tiramisu" (Guinness, espresso, mascarpone) and the "Ricotta Cheesecake" (with raspberries). I also had a cappuccino to wash it down. I especially like that they have several booths for 2. We tried it because my niece works here and had nothing but good things to say. I would totally recommend the chicken BLT. So delish! The BLT came on a chewy ciabatta roll with the freshest ingredients -- blackened chicken, bacon, tomato, avocado, arugula, lemon garlic aioli and topped with melted swiss. And of course, choose the truffle fries. And the nachos with short ribs!!! Omgoodness! Just look at the picture! Colorful chips topped with huge rings of jalapeños, pico, red onion, scallions, lettuce, sour cream, guac and cheese! And they certainly weren't stingy with the short ribs!!!
