The name "NewSylum" cleverly bridges "Newtown" with the historical definition of "asylum" meaning a sanctuary or place of refuge. The taproom is housed in a beautifully restored, historic red brick colonial-style building. Customers can enjoy full table service inside the 9,000-square-foot space or relax in the extensive, dog-friendly outdoor seating areas. I've heard this area is full of paranormal activity if you're into that. I said this would be my only beer, and I wanted to order two cans to go, either with her or at the bar. She said with her, but to wait until I was closer to finish to my with my beer. Seeing how there was only one waitress in the entire room, this seemed like a bad idea, but I said OK. She never came back. Why is there only one waitress? Why am I sitting there with an empty beer watching her close out 10 cards per table? Why did Ignore my gut and allow her to reject my suggestion to make both our lives easier by ordering and closing out? I finally got up and closed out at the bar, not getting my cans. Can't be held hostage by incompetence.

Skygazer is quickly establishing itself as one of the best breweries in the central Connecticut…read morearea by creating really unique and creative beers that keeps me excited for whatever they're going to churn out next. At the moment, they are only open two days a week - Thursdays and Saturdays - for can purchases only. My hope is that they'll eventually get large enough and the demand for their beer will grow enough for Skygazer to add a taproom or at least being open more than two days a week, similar to how Treehouse's increasing success over the years led to the same. Beer taste is totally subjective and they rotate through so many different varieties that it's pointless to mention any on here as by the time you actually visit, they lineup will be totally different, but what I can say is that every beer I've had from them so far has been anywhere from great to awesome to "this isn't a particular style of beer I like, but I recognize that this is a very good effort" so chances are you'll enjoy whatever you try. Here's to hoping Skygazer keeps growing and expanding going forward!

I had one of their beers from their Watercolors series. A whole bunch of variants with a whole bunch of flavors. The version I had was Banana, Cherry, Raspberry, Graham Cracker, Marshmallow and Milk Sugar. Described as a Weisse type beer I had the impression that it would be a lighter beer in body but it wasn't really as it was pretty thick and had more of the traits of a sour. Very sweet to drink which was exciting at one point and time for me with this beer type but it was something I tired of quickly as many other breweries started making these types of beers. Just a bit too sweet and thick for me to get too wrapped up with this beer.

One was the Weekend Special, which was a red pie with garlic, fresh basil, buffalo mozzarella, pepperoni, meatball, shaved Parmesan, and oregano. The small was $27, which I thought was pretty pricey for the portion. The other two were build your own pie; one white pie with basil and ricotta, and one red pie with pepperoni, meatball, and green pepper. All three pizzas tasted great. My main issue was the texture of the center. I prefer my pizza crispy enough that I can actually pick up a slice without everything sliding or folding over. Service was friendly and attentive enough, although I thought it was a little odd that my bartender disappeared and someone else took over without any explanation. My man tried a few of the beers and enjoyed being able to sample different options, while I went with a margarita flight. Overall, I liked the atmosphere and the pizza was tasty, but I definitely felt the pizzas were overpriced for the size and what you get.

They just took our order, dumped our food and that was it goodbye. Plus it was so loud it was just not enjoyable. There are so many places to eat in the area for great relaxing meal but this isn't one of them. We go out weekly but will not be back here.
