Happy Easter Day to everyone who celebrates Christian Faith My Sister and I had reservations for dinner at one of the best restaurants in West Haven, in most people's opinions. Duffy's is an Irish American Pub/Restaurants owned by Christopher Walsh. Being a holiday, Duffy's is offering both their traditional and brunch menu options. The dining room and bar is decorated with strong oak furniture, tables and chairs. The historic backdrop is filled on the walls throughout the restaurant of baseball, football, political heroes and of course, a touch of Irish heritage and American pride. The staff immediately make you feel welcome and right at home with their warm demeanor and bright smiles. My Sister had the Brunch Wrap with a side of Home Fries (Sorry no picture) I had to Slow Cooker Pot Roast with Mashed Potatoes and Broccoli and Carrots. Washed it down with 2 Smith Wick's Irish Red Ales. Our waitress today was Kenzie.... She was attentive and polite, did a very good job, especially with it being very busy. I visited Duffy's with three friends on a weekday night and, man, what a great little place. Located in the middle of a neighborhood, there's limited parking in the back but street parking is also available. Once we walked inside, I was smitten. Duffy's is that neighborhood pub you find across the pond, beautifully decorated and with a great vibe. The place was clean and our waitress was the sweetest. After getting some recommendations from the waitress, I ordered the fish and chips. These were different than what I'm used to. Instead of a big piece of fish, I two small pieces of fish. It was interesting and there was nothing special about them. The coleslaw was okay, as were the French fries. One of my friends ordered a steak (medium rare) and it was tough and overcooked. Overall, the food wasn't great, but the ambiance made up for it. Would I return to have a pint at the bar? Absolutely! Would I come hungry next time? Probably not. read more

We visited Duffy's for the first time on 3/8/2026 for lunch. We sat at the bar to watch the game. It took the bartender a few minutes to get to us because he was swamped with waiter orders but once he did he apologized for the delay, took our drink order and gave us some menus. We decided to split the rueben sandwich with fries. OMG!! It was amazing, so flavorful and delicious. The fries were fresh and piping hot. The bartender was warm and inviting. Restaurant is warm, welcoming and clean. We highly recommend the sandwich and look forward to trying other menu options. read more

Fun night out with friends! I ordered the Guinness whip and it didn't disappoint. It was sort of like a fluffier version of an Irish car bomb and super tasty! After some coaxing from my friends I ordered the Thanksgiving quesadilla special. The reaction of our super friendly and attentive waitress was priceless! A+ for atmosphere and service! Duffy's is an attractive venue, with little Tiffany-style lights on the tables and the requisite Red Sox pictures you'd expect in an East Coast Irish-style pub-restaurant. We ordered two apps: The Thai sweet and hot chicken fingers and the nachos with an extra of seasoned ground beef. They came out right away. Our server was friendly and attentive. The chicken was delicious. It was perfectly fried and crispy, and the Thai sweet pepper sauce was extraordinary. The nachos were a letdown. The chips were a store-bought variety, and not even a name brand. Think Walmart "Great Value" chips. Little care was taken in assembling the dish. Only about 50% of chips had any cheese or meat on them; the rest were naked. The "seasoned" ground beef, an extra $5, tasted entirely unseasoned. And the whole thing was topped with a generous helping of WTF shredded lettuce. Back to the drawing board on those nachos, Duffy. I will say the best thing about the nachos dish was the house salsa, which was rich in garlic. We'll go back. It's a welcoming, friendly place with great service and an attractive atmosphere. Duffy's Tavern is an Irish pub that opened in West Haven, Connecticut in 1983. It was founded by restaurateur John Walsh. Although the pub has only been open since the 1980s, it seems like it is much older. That has to do with the fact that Walsh collected several antiques and historic bar memorabilia to decorate the interior of the pub. There's a refrigerator carved entirely out of wood, thick wooden booths, stained glass lamps, and several framed photos from West Haven's history (especially of the former Savin Rock Amusement Park: Connecticut's answer to Coney Island). Duffy's offers a variety of bar appetizers, burgers & sandwiches, soups, salads, and old-school tavern dishes like Fish & Chips, Meatloaf, Hot Roast Beef, and Shepherd's Pie. Walsh retired in 2002 and since then Duffy's has been run by his son Chris: a successful restaurateur in his own right. I have worked in West Haven for 15 years and I have visited Duffy's several times during that time period. It's a great place to go for lunch, dinner, or happy hour (not to mention St. Patrick's Day). Some of my favorite bites to order include their Irish Nachos, Wings, Quesadillas, or one of their many delicious burgers and sandwiches. Of course I always have to pair their food with a nice cold pint of Guinness to wash everything down. My most recent visit there was for a Happy Hour that my job sponsored. Some of the bites that everyone was treated to included a charcuterie platter, Buffalo chicken tenders, Penne ala Vodka, and Pub House Meatballs. We just couldn't pass through without a stop at Duffy's. Today was all about the Pumpkin Martini. It's only around for a short time. Honestly the best I've had anywhere, and that is a huge compliment. I am an everything pumpkin girl. Chris infuses the vodka himself. Perfect blend of spices and the cream makes it a delectable treat. I wish this was on the menu all year round. We stopped for 1 but who am I kidding one was just not enough. So while my boyfriend was busying talking to some of the other patrons I ordered a second one. Shhh don't tell him. Lol I should have bought the premade ones to go home. He bottles and sells them for you to take. We already are planning on coming back for Black Friday for a couple more. Fingers crossed he doesn't run out. What a find in West Haven. The place looks amazing with plenty of seating and en extremely friendly staff, all of whom welcome you as you enter. We sit at the bar for an early dinner and the bartender (and owner) Chris takes care of us. Great bar with great selection on tap and in the fridge and, of course everything else in between. There are more specials tonight than there are items on the regular menu. The regulars and one of the staff throw out their top picks....Stuffed Clams (which look amazing), meatloaf and more. Recently stopped in for dinner and already looking forward to going back. The restaurant was pretty empty for a Friday night but as far as service, it was fine. Our waitress said it was her first day but she was friendly and attentive. We ordered the nachos to start which were very good. The potion was perfect to share between the two of us without much going to waste. For meals, we ordered Shepard's pie and corned beef Reuben sandwich. The portion for the Shepard's pie was very large and had very good flavor. The sandwich was packed full and also had very good flavor. My boyfriend ordered the icebox cake for desert and enjoyed every last bite of it! As far as Covid, they had a sign that said masks were required but some people moved about without them. This was my first trip to Duffy's to check out their Corned Beef and Cabbage. We started out with some Guinness and Irish Mules and nachos. For dinner, we had Duffy dogs and corned beef and cabbage. Everything was delicious and well seasoned. Their booths are high so it felt pretty safe in there for my first experience in a restaurant since COVID. We finished it off with a Rockside Brownie in which the ice cream and whipped cream were cold and the brownie was perfectly warm. I will definitely come back! read more

I had a salad with Ahi tuna. It had a lot of tuna and a tasty dressing sesame dressing. Very good. The homemade rice pudding is excellent. They used to have Irish soda bread and a pepper bread, but that's gone in a cost cutting move, I guess. However, the beer is always good and fresh. I spent 34 dollars plus tip. I recently moved to West Haven down the street from this place, and everyone has constantly told me to try out Duffy's. Considering it's so close to my apartment and I've lived here since July, it was about time I checked this place out. I predict as well that it will also be a frequent place I visit. My roommate came with me, and we both got sandwiches and gave each other half of what we ordered. Her favorite sandwich to order is the French Dip, and I got the Lobster Grilled Cheese. I also got the beer battered black and tan onion rings with my sandwich. I greatly enjoyed both sandwiches and the onion rings. I also ordered a chocolate peanut butter pie piece for dessert and greatly enjoyed that as well. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was very friendly and nice too. 4 stars is because my roommate started coming down with a stuffy nose (either allergies or a head cold) and was ready to leave, and our waitress seemed to take a very long time to get our check and return it (she was very speedy the rest of the night, but as it slowed down she did too and it was at a horrible time for our table). My wife and I were driving around West New Haven looking for a pace to eat. We have driven by Duffy's many times, and we never stopped in, until the other day. This place is a a gem, and we really enjoyed the food and excellent service. The place was jammed packed for a Sunday afternoon in December. They offered the latest IPA beer selection, and, an excellent food menu with nice specials. I have found a new place to visit that offers great service and food. I like Duffy's a lot, it's cozy and friendly, with a warm atmosphere. I've had some great fish dinners, that I've been very pleased with. The only thing I was disappointed with, was their slow roasted turkey dinner. Now they did say the turkey was over a bed of stuffing, but I would describe it as thin, deli turkey, over a carload of stuffing. I guess I was picturing somewhat thicker cut turkey, and lots more gravy. What with the bread, rice pilaf, and stuffing...and more stuffing...I had my fill of carbs, when I had thought it would be more of a meat dinner. Drink specials are great, no real local craft beers...but if you can handle a BL, or Yuengling then go for it! It IS an Irish bar...have a Smithwicks or Guinness why don't you!! I'll be back here again for sure during the week after the work day...also, our waitress worked hard at our table all night (9 ladies!) and did well. Stopped in for lunch, our first time here and we'll absolutely be back. Wasn't at all expecting the food to be so good, lesson learned not to judge a book by its cover. I had the French dip and the roast beef was sliced so thin you could actually see through it. It just melted in your mouth, so good!! My husband had the chicken francaise and got three good sized pieces, great portion for a lunch. My father-in-law's pastrami sandwich was amazing too. Good size menu with a nice array of options, something for everyone. Very pleasantly surprised by the food and the our waitress was wonderful; friendly, attentive. The bar and restaurant areas were clean and decorated with fun Irish memorabilia and signage. Clean bathrooms (always a big plus!). Middle of the road. That was my reaction after trying Duffy's for the first time recently. I guess I expected more. It's a solid Irish pub with all the necessary staples: corned beef and pastrami sandwiches, fish and chips, Guinness BBQ short ribs with mashed potatoes, Shepherd's pie, Bangers and Mash, etc. Except for one thing I commonly find in Irish pubs and which I really like: chicken pot pie. Not at Duffy's. I even asked the waiter if they occasionally did it as a special. Nope. Well, OK then. My wife had the fish and chips and I had the Guinness short ribs, which were a bit odd in that the meat was sliced off the bone, sort of like roast beef. Which was perfectly fine. They were served over mashed potatoes with a tasty Guinness BBQ sauce drizzled over everything and also included a side of very good cole slaw. The fish and chips were also good. Not too greasy and the shoestring fries were a different take on the chips part of the pair, but very good nonetheless. Bonus points go to Duffy's for serving soup or salad and brown bread and butter with their entrees. This concept is a slowly dying breed in many restaurants today. The Rhode Island clam chowder we got with our meals was good but had a scarcity of clams and too many potatoes. And next to the clams, I like a lot of spuds. But this was an overload. Overall I'd say I like Duffy's. I wasn't dazzled or overly disappointed (except for the pot pie thing) and I'm not sure if I'd go back to try other menu items. I just wasn't feeling it. My Noni speaks in broken English and calls this place "Doofy's". Great lunch spot in West Haven. The basket of Irish soda breads is so good that you may have to pace yourself, you will fill up before your meal arrives. The prices are reasonable and you can see this from the amount of seniors eating lunch here. The menu has a little bit for everyone. Standard Irish pub food such as corned beef and cabbage, sandwiches, burgers, and even a few pasta dishes. My favorite meal is the Irish Wolf Dogs! Two hot dogs split open covered in cheese, onions, and kraut. A coronary waiting to happen but it is so worth it. The back parking lot is a bit small and usually filled with Caddies and Lincoln's so you'll probably have to look for a spot on the street. read more
