Visited this cute hidden pub for the first time last night with a group of friends to catch a friend's comedy set during a competition! The fries were exactly what I needed - tasty, flavorful and addicting! The waitress seemed a bit overwhelmed - at one point we ended up with a quesadilla meant for another table but she was friendly and attentive. I'll definitely keep an eye on their schedule for a reason to come back! read more

This place rules. Period. A very small, intimate performance space with rotating craft beer selection, and a kitchen that cranks out BANGERS. Hummus plate, burgers, chicken tenders, salads, all killer no filler. Metalhead friendly and approved. The drink menu has many SWEET items but the bar can make anything. Let's go! read more

Went to see a show tonight, which was great, but as we left we noticed 3 people with prominently displayed SS lightening bolts come in and be seated at the bar. To the doorman's credit, he didn't seem happy about it, but he said it was his first night there. Nonetheless, clean these people out quickly or you risk becoming a Nazi bar. read more

We had such a great experience here! The wait staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, recommending different menu items and more. We were really anxious about bringing our elderly grandmother out to an outdoor dining experience but they went above and beyond to move our table away from everyone else for extra security on our end. Had a rough week at work, and just wanted to find somewhere close and casual for a cold beer and a bite to eat. We could not be happier with our decision to try this place. We each got a burger and I have to say these were in my top five, and I've had a lot of burgers. The owner was also the bartender and he couldn't have been any nicer. I stumbled upon this place while visiting the city to tour the local college. It was probably the best place I'd been on our entire visit to New Haven. We visited on karaoke night, and the locals and regulars are absolutely incredible - friendly, welcoming, and just ready to get on stage and have fun. They cheer you on whether you're off key or not, and they perform a huge selection of songs from an assortment of genres - even the bartender and the DJ get up and sing every now and then. The drinks were affordable, and they've got a good selection of IPAs on tap. The bartender Pete is great and friendly. Their food also isn't bad at all! The cook saw us eyeing the menu without excitement, and told us that he can get creative if there's something we want that isn't there. We just customized existing items and got some of THE BEST CHICKEN SANDWICHES. Their chicken isn't some frozen from a package stuff, but is hand-breaded with their own recipe and it's incredible. When we first walked in, we were not impressed. Kind of scared, wondering what we'd gotten ourselves in to. But I am so very glad that we chose to stay and enjoy the evening there. It turned out to be one of the high points on our trip to New Haven. This place is FUN. Next time I'm in town, I'll be back. read more

I've been going to the Cellar on Treadwell since its opening and they consistently pump out awesome food. Hands down the best chicken sandwiches around! Whether fried or grilled, any type that I've had has been amazing! This place is worth the trip for their chicken sandwiches alone. On the occasions I ventured away from the various chicken sandwiches, their other food was top notch as well (definitely check out Taco Tuesdays when that returns)! They recently started doing brunch on Sundays and the Chicken & Waffles were dynamite! They have a great trivia night and Music Bingo. It is also a great venue for seeing local bands play as well. It has a great neighborhood bar feel, but without the intimidation that some neighborhood bar regulars can give off. I've always had great experiences there and have even made some new friends there by just chatting with regulars at the bar along the way. It is a bit "off the beaten path" so to say - tucked inside an industrial park, but its worth seeking out. Friendly staff and great, GREAT food. read more

Sorry not for us. Stopped here after attending a soccer game at SCSU with my elderly mom and young adult kids on a Friday evening. It's located in a back parking lot near a sketchy beer bar/music venue (the space ballroom). There were groups of bikers hanging out in the parking lot - smoking cigarettes and weed. The entrance to the place is dark and dingy - we left when my young adult kids (20 and 18) were like "let's get the hell out of here". It might have great food and drinks but the atmosphere was not for us. read more

I was so pleased with our visit to the cellar this past week. My boyfriend played a set with his band Wednesday night so in terms of the venue, it was great! Such a fun little place for a show. The food and bar selection was also perfect. My favorite though was the amazing service we had. Our waitress was so attentive and friendly. The whole staff was great. We had such a great time at the outdoor patio at Cellar on Treadwell last night! My brother's band was playing their last live show of the year and even though it was a little chilly outside when the sun went down, the food was delicious and we all had a great time! Shoutout to the wonderful staff, especially Megan who ran the whole patio with grace, and chef Andre who made the BEST chicken tenders. I wish I'd gotten a picture of the Cheddar Bob Chicken Sandwich, but it was too dark. We all loved our plates and hope to be back soon! read more

Bravo! This place easily has the best customer service in all of Hamden. What a breath of fresh air walking in and being treated like royalty. The venue and atmosphere are all awesome and one of these days when the pandemic is over I'd love to visit for a show! THE most important aspect is the food though. I was very concerned about ordering a beyond burger considering how many restaurants get the burger wrong. But I am happy to report that theirs is without a doubt the best in the state. What a surprise and the building is so well hidden it's a shame. More people need to know about this wonderful restaurant/venue. Do NOT hesitate, get make this your next takeout visit! read more

Went here to have a bite to eat before seeing a show next door at The Space Ballroom. Initially my husband and I were skeptical because the building looked sketchy at best, but the parking was free and plentiful. Inside the stairs took us downstairs to a literal cellar. The decor was very Rock-'n'-roll and eclectic with a stage, dining chairs&tables and a good size bar. We were even treated to free live music. And it was the best decision of the night. The service was attentive and just stellar. The food was fantastic, tasted fresh and the portions were great. And the owners were so welcoming and personable.
