This place is killer.. my go-to whenever we're in town. Great service, craft beer selection, atmosphere and food. Everything we've tried here was delicious!! Do not, I repeat, do not leave without trying the fries. We both love the siracha mayo & the curried ketchup. Also, thrilled that they're open for lunch on Saturdays and Sundays. I just recently moved to Shelton from Delaware and I went to this place with a few friends after having a miserable time across the street at some lame fake Mexican restaurant. I loved the atmosphere, very chill and relaxed. The bar tenders were very nice. The menu is a little small but the burger I ordered was delicious. Horrible experience at this bar. The food is actually pretty good and Ive spent many nights here with friends only to have the bartender with grey/ blue hair disrespect myself and my friends because she was in a bad mood/was having an off day... for whatever the reason, it's not excusable. Another patron had to get her attention and get my beer and glass as requested because she saw this girl just kept walking away and not remembering. The bartenders and manager have crappy attitudes. We had a great time at Bar 140. They have a short menu of great bar bites. We were happily surprised tonight with their escargot special! They don't have a huge selection of beers on tap, but their rotating selection of interesting microbrews has something you'll love. To top it off they played some weezer off the blue album. This bar is just wonderful all around. There's a couple other places on Center Street, but they have all gone downhill over the last few months. Bar 140 however has gone from strength to strength in every aspect! Firstly, the staff is wonderful. Every single person we've met behind the bar has been so great. The beer list is constantly changing showcasing some of CT/VT/NY's finest brews! Half the fun of going is the anticipation of what might be on tap! The food menu is great too. There are a lot of great unique items on the menu that you can't find anywhere else. There's daily specials on food items and items that are only sold on certain days of the week! There's also a great dessert cupcake menu with cupcakes delivered by a local bakery. They are great too! The vibe is great. The drinks are great. The staff is great. The good is great. The fries Very small and easy to overlook. However, the food is on point. Fresh, house made food keeps me coming back regularly. My go-to is either the burger or the turkey burger. Favorite spot in downtown Shelton. The bar is cozy with rotating local microbrews, killer hand cut fries (get the pesto and curry ketchup dipping sauce) and even cupcakes from a local bakery. There's a patio outside and a side room with tables. The side room has live music on Wednesdays usually starting around 9, this can get pretty loud so be prepared. First, I'd like to mention that I've been here multiple times over the years and it's always been a great spot. Never had any issues, they have a great selection of beer from local breweries and I've enjoyed coming here. I am not surprised by another recent review mentioning different treatment as a woman. I came in on Saturday night, Dec 4th, with a good size group of people and immediately noticed myself and a friend I was sitting with having to wait and remind the bartender we needed a new beer where my boyfriend and his friends were immediately refilled, not even having to ask. Okay, that's fine....maybe she's busy (now that I see a complete stranger also saying this it makes more sense now) THEN, I attempt to go use the bathroom. The women's bathroom and there is a man inside there when I opened the door. I apologized and let him know I'd wait. I called my boyfriend over (who was waiting for me because we were getting ready to go outside) and I tell him there's some guy in the bathroom and I'm waiting for him to come out so it may take a minute. Immediately the bartender starts loudly telling me from behind the bar that the bathrooms are "gender neutral" so to quit complaining. I am first confused with why she's even telling me this because I wasn't complaining, I was patiently waiting for the guy to come out and was just telling my boyfriend to wait for me. Next, the guy in there wasn't even using the bathroom! He was on his phone. So, I waited a little longer and then knocked on the door and asked the guy nicely if he was done on the phone because I really had to go. He was very understanding, apologized and came right out (the bartender still upset and continued to very loudly remind me that the bathrooms are gender neutral and seemed annoyed that I asked him to come out! Um, So because the bathroom is gender neutral, which I don't care if they are or not, does that mean I myself can't use it? It was more like she was annoyed that I was "bothering" the man instead of just letting us handle our situation ourselves which was FINE. The guy had no issue, so why was she so upset? that's fine that the bathroom is gender neutral, me being a woman gender, would like to use it too. Of course at this point I'm also annoyed and wondering what her issue is. Anyway, I come out the bathroom and my boyfriend, who had seen the exchange I just had with the annoyed bartender asks me what happened. I start telling him, "Well, there was a guy on the phone and I asked him if I could use it and she started going on about the bathroom being gender neutral etc" As I'm explaining to him, and no one else, I was just as "loud" as anyone would be talking at a bar with another 20-30 people chatting around you, she comes at me AGAIN about why I'm complaining because the gender neutral thing. At this point I AM SO CONFUSED AT WHY SHES SO CONCERNED WITH THIS. Who cares if it's gender neutral, or if it's not, I HAD A RESPECTFUL ENCOUNTER with the PERSON in there, regardless if it was a man or a woman and I have no clue why she's so bothered with me for it. So I proceed to ask her what her problem is because I was not even talking to her, I was talking to my boyfriend, and she, with a TERRIBLE attitude tells me that I don't have to come out and "be loud about it"......WHAT? So she's basically telling me what I can and cannot TALK about with the people I came with?? Who at this point still had no idea what was even going on because according to everyone else, I was not any louder than anyone else there and they hadn't even heard what I was explaining to my boyfriend. It was very much like she was so worried about defending the guy who was in there, who didn't even NEED any defending because WE WERE FINE. Of course once we start going back and forth, I'm ridiculously annoyed at this point so I remind her that I wasn't talking to her and I ask her again what her issue/problem was, we start going back and forth and she TELLS ME TO LEAVE. Really? So you pick a fight with ME (very unprofessional) and then ask me to leave when I call you out on it? If she had been less worried the gender neutral bathroom, which again NO ONE HAD AN ISSUE WITH, the whole situation could have been avoided. I have never in my life been treated this way, ANYWHERE, or have been asked to leave, ANYWHERE. Upon leaving, the other 10 people I was with STILL had no idea what was even going on because that's how much of a NON ISSUE ALL OF IT WAS, except to her. It was like I was being scolded because G*d forbid a woman inconveniences a man by asking him politely if he can please talk on his phone outside so I, a woman, can use the bathroom. So bizarre, and needless to say that I, or my friends have decided to never step foot in there again. What a horrible way to be treated, over absolutely nothing. read more

Bar 140 is hands down our favorite place in town. My husband and I have been going here for over three years now and it's our go-to spot. The food is fantastic, the staff/owners are great - there really is nothing but good stuff to say. We love the ambiance - no TV's taking up the walls and keeping you from socializing. We checked this place out while visiting the area - looking for local food and beer. It was a great choice- food was solid, especially for the bar setting. Frittes are a must- delicious- as are the sauces. We tried the pesto, the curry ketchup, and the sriracha mayo- all we're excellent. Burgers were superb, perfectly cooked, as was the chili. And don't skip the cupcakes- I loved the strawberry pop tart, which was loaded with lots of fruit. read more

This bar has excellent food. The burger here is to die for. The French Fry basket is absolutely delicious paired with the Curry Ketchup! Prices are reasonable. I only wished they were open more often, and weren't closed on Mondays. read more

I was on the road traveling for work and went to Bar 140 based on the reviews on Yelp. It had been a long day and I just wanted good tacos and a beer. Reviews were accurate all the way around. The tacos were fantastic. Beer selection was great and the service was very friendly. Food menu is not big but doesn't need to be if what you serve is excellent. Did not have the fries and dipping sauces but can say the aioli on the tacos was top notch. Great place and would recommend to anyone. read more

Ah, Bar 140. I'd been meaning to come check out this bar since it opened and last night, I finally did it and now I'm kicking myself that I hadn't been here earlier. You know how at some bars you think "eh the food is alright but the service is great and there's a good beer selection" or maybe, "Great food but crappy service" and so on? Everything at Bar 140 is great. Really. All of the staff - bartenders, kitchen staff and the owners are the friendliest, sweetest people. You come in and you're warmly greeted and treated like an old friend, and by the time you leave you feel like you ARE an old friend. A testament to how friendly and relaxed the place is - one of the bartenders was there just hanging out. She wasn't even working that day, she just wanted to drop in and say hi, and ended up staying and having a few drinks with us. The menu is killer - I tried the tacos and fries with delicious dipping sauce and everything was amazing and so reasonably priced for the quality. My friend ordered a turkey burger which looked really juicy and delicious and I heard the sliders are also fantastic. They also have special menu items for different days of the week and drink specials, and there's often live music. The bar itself is cozy - not too big but you don't feel really crowded. There's a patio area and ample tables and chairs if you're eating, or maybe just want to grab one of the board games they have available to patrons, too. Can't say enough good things about this place - highly recommended for happy hour, or a night out with friends. read more

This is a cozy little bar with great craft beers! If you are watching what you eat, this may not be the place for you. They specialize in steamed burgers (sounds weird but it good) on texas toast, loaded hot dogs, fries, and other "elevated" style bar food. I give them 4/5 stars because I wish they had more selection in their menu. They have a nice patio which is cool in the summer. Once a friend and I struck up a game of battleship (yes - the 80's game of strategery!) with some new people we met. A fun place! Pretty different from most bars in the Shelton/Derby area. Really relaxed atmosphere in there with a little outdoor area that is nice the summer. They have some board games and stuff there which can be fun. They have a lot of bottled beer choices but unfortunately not a ton on tap. The burgers and sandwiches I've had there have been good but the Belgian frites (and dipping sauces) were amazing.
