My cousin and I came here for lunch during Restaurant Week. This was our first time at Harvest and we both decided it would not be the last. They offered a three course price fix with multiple choices for the appetizer and entrees. there were enough selections to please many. I chose the Ahi Tuna tartare and fish of the day which was black bass. Both were delicious. Our server was very nice and attentive. He provided great descriptions of the dishes and helped us select a nice glass of wine to accompany our meals. The dessert of berries and cream came with a nice chocolate sauces that rounded out our meals. There were not many for lunch on a Monday afternoon so it was quiet and unrushed. there is a nice dining room, bar area with tables and an outside patio for warmer and drier months. A great bargain!

I wish we got to try the wine but most of our party was abstaining for the night so I already have a reason to go back!!! Loved the vibe of this place, perfect for bigger parties. A little let down by the short rib mac and cheese, not enough flavor for me but it was still filling! Love the oysters and the kind servers!!! Lots of seats! Little hard to find but just go down the steps... it's there! Easy to have a good night!

Good food and great drinks. Have been here a number of times and would say it's a solid restaurant with consistently good dishes and great strong drinks. Very nice atmosphere tucked away off the street. No complaints!

Met two friends for dinner at Harvest recently and our experience was completely unsatisfactory. All three of us didn't enjoy the dishes we ordered, and ended up leaving most of the food on our plates at the end of the meal. I ordered one of the fish specials and it was so dry it was barely edible :-( The atmosphere was decent, but the service was lackluster at best; I think this visit to Harvest is one and done for me....

NY Strip ordered rare, received blue (or under, if that's even possible)

Harvest has gone downhill. Steeply. My date and I went to Harvest for dinner during Restaurant Week and were disappointed to be served one of the worst meals I've ever paid for. The meal was sloppy, underseasoned and altogether poorly executed. We ordered the following dinner menu staples: lobster bisque, lamb lollipops, butternut squash ravioli and NY strip steak. The worst of it was arguably the atrociously undercooked steak, which still had visible white fat running through it. Picture attached. The lamb lollipops were well-cooked and tasty, but hastily strewn on a bed of waxy arugula atop a genuinely bland harissa. The lobster bisque was sloshed all over the bowl, topped with cheap truffle oil, and had a thick film that wrapped around my spoon when I went to take a bite. It also should've been labeled a seafood bisque, as it was obviously based in a seafood stock rather than a lobster broth. The butternut squash ravioli was perfectly fine, albeit underseasoned. We ordered drinks, as well, and were pleasantly surprised by my date's pisco cocktail (from the seasonal menu). It was unique, balanced and very fun! My manhattan, on the other hand, was underwhelming. It had been advertised as barrel-aged, which usually means you can expect a smooth, integrated flavor profile. Instead, the flavors felt disjointed, as if they hadn't had time to blend at all. It tasted unfinished and flat, and was served in a rocks glass full to the brim with ice, so it was very thin and watered down. I've waited two weeks to write this review to give myself some space from the disappointment I felt at shelling out over $200 for this experience... but, honestly, I'm still unhappy.

Harvest Sliders, Grilled Calamari

Super spacious but the food fell a little average for me. Free bread was fluffy and the dips were so good! One of the highlights of the meal. Of the appetizers ordered, the sliders were so juicy but needed a bit more seasoning. Perfect sizes for eating. Would order again. The grilled calamari was too vinegary/sour for me so not the biggest fan, and the pieces were so small too. Seafood pappardelle: unfortunately the pasta was on the thicker side and curled up, making it folded and even thicker to bite down. Guess they weren't paying attention to the boiling pasta! The sauce wasn't thick or flavorful enough to really coat the pasta so it was rather plain. However the seafood was plentiful and really delicious. Just too bad that the carbs itself wasn't the best. At this price point I definitely expected more. NY Strip: it was supposed to come with truffle fries but the fries were more like parmesan fries and there was nothing truffle about them! The steak was on the small side but decent, just that the sauce that came with it...definitely came out from a bottle.

One of the worst shrimp and grits I ever had

So where do I begin . I AM DEFINITELY NEVER EVER COMING BACK HERE AGAIN!!! I wasted my money during this experience and time when I could and should have went else where. The drinks were pretty good along with the server and the way the smoke drink was bright and presented. But the test is down hill. Upon arrival we asked if we can have a booth. The host or an angry bothered gentleman said we don't have booths and started getting the menus. He served annoyed and bothered at the same time. And seemed to not even want to be there his face Expression said it all. After sitting down the bus boy was nice and seemed really hard working and pleasant and so was it server. We order the fried artichokes. The artichokes were pretty good but there was no need to dress a fried artichoke with a blend and tasteless oil dressing that seemed as though it was just excess oil from the fryer. Zero flavor just added grease onto plate. I ordered the grilled calamari. They had fried on the menu but I didn't want fried one again for health reasons. So when they brought me the plate there tentacles were definitely fried but the ask the snack pieces were not but seemed to not have any grill markings at all either. And to top it off again they put that same oil on to zero flavor drenching the calamari and the whole pate including the fresh jalapeños alone with it. It was just disgusting and mouth felt great as though I ordered fried food. Then we got the shrimp and grits. The shrimp were perfectly cooked but the rest of the dressing and the grits was by far the worst I've ever had in my life yet. Zero flavor, blend, pale just as is I was eating grits with flavor restrictions. And then we ordered the eggplant pasta cavotle. If the title specified eggplants it should be the main ingredient. But I'm this dish they had mini pieces of them inside and you had to fish for them. It felt as if they thought it was too expensive to put more of It inside. The tomato based sauce was good but still when you order something with it in the title you expect it in there. I was tempted not to tip or even ask them to redo two of the great dishes but I help back. NEVER AGAIN

I love harvest for its location, and that they change the menu and cocktails to match the season. I had the shaved Brussel sprouts salad which was amazing, the only suggestion would be a slightly larger portion. Service was great, our server was warming and welcoming and she also sparked very great conversation with us. The ambiance of harvest is warm yet inviting, dimly lit but we went during lunch so the large windows brought in some beautiful lighting. Must try if you are in New Haven

They said they could not guarantee the patio. But we were lucky to be able to sit outside anyway. The water is magical at night. More importantly, they have a very interesting bar program and delicious food. I got the new Message in a Bottle cocktail, which was clarified, so there is mango, lime, rum, orgeat, curaçao and milk... but it was as clear as an old-fashioned. Lots of flavors going on and they balanced extreme well. Very delicious, vacation-like, and sophisticated. The bread here was also delicious as well the butter and the black salt it was served with. They have a whole vegan menu, but there were also some vegetarian things on the main menu so I stick with that. The beet salad was incredible. Huge portion, and some very delicious blue cheese which was in the dressing. It was very filling and I still had some to take back to my hotel. The wild mushroom "bolognese" (meatless) was tasty too, but it had a little too much of an herb (thyme?). Otherwise the meal was so very delicious and the setting was beautiful. And this is coming from a San Diegan who is used to waterfront views and good food!

Shell & Bones Oyster Bar and Grill is an elevated seafood restaurant, steakhouse and raw bar that…read moreopened in New Haven, Connecticut in July 2015. It was founded by restaurateurs Daniel Kay, Marc Knight, and Robert Bolduc. Knight and Bolduc had previously had success when they opened the popular southwestern restaurant Geronimo Tequila Bar & Southwest Grill in the Elm City in November 2007. Kay had spent nearly 15 years serving as the president of Connecticut Fluid Power. In 2015, the three business partners came together to open a new venture at New Haven's historic City Point. The location (on the ground level below the Pequonnock Yacht Club) had been home to several restaurants for decades (most recently to Sage American Grill & Oyster Bar). After a complete remodel, they opened Shell & Bones. The trio brought in the award-winning executive chef Arturo Franco Camacho to serve as the culinary director. My wife and I recently had a lunch date at Shell & Bones. The restaurant had been on our bucket list for some time. We loved the nautical theme of the decor as well as the amazing views of New Haven Harbor. We were seated in the indoor patio; it was a little too cold and rainy during our visit for al fresco dining. For drinks, I ordered "The Breakfast Bloody Mary" (Ostreida oyster vodka, Tres Agaves Bloody Mary mix, chorizo, cocktail shrimp, bacon, cornichon, olives) while my wife had the "Lavender Limoncello Spritzer". The cocktails were just as visually pleasing as they were delicious. From the raw bar, we shared four "Lucky Lady" oysters, which were super light and smooth. For our entrées, I had the "Crab Cake B.L.T." (sweet & spicy bacon, romaine, tomato, chipotle mayo, brioche roll) and my wife had the "Shell & Bones Lobster Roll" (served hot w/ house-made Lobster Butter). For our sides, we both ordered "Hand Cut Truffle Parmesan Fries". My sandwich was bursting with flavor, my wife's lobster roll was one of the best we ever had, and the fries were just the icing on the cake. We looked over the dessert menu (which looked great), but we were way too full. We had a fantastic experience at Shell & Bones and look forward to returning!

In a display of restaurant solidarity , they recommended that we try Vinas Wine & Tapas. As it turned out, we have a NEW favorite in New Haven! We arrived a bit early and were cheerfully greeted by Mike G, our server. The atmosphere was welcoming and relatively quiet, since their musical offering does not start as early as our 5:00-7:00 PM time slot on a Tuesday. We had asked for the waiter Christian because he had been mentioned in several of the Yelp reviews, but Mike proved that the service compliments should go to everyone. First, the tapas: We enjoyed all five of the tapas we chose. The "Calamares" were lightly battered and crispy. The Vinas salad was fresh, with tomatoes, cheese, corn, and croutons. The pork belly was delicious and more meaty than expected . The oyster mushrooms were presented with onion crisps. The baked birria empanada was stuffed with brisket style beef. Each of these "courses" was a unique delight to the palate, and for me and my partner, it was completely satisfying. In keeping with the spirit of a "wine bar," Vinas offered a flight of 4 wines in 3 ounce glasses, and after hearing about our food choices and wine preferences, Mike chose the wines for us, giving us a chance to taste some less familiar offerings. We had the Felino Malbec 2024 (Argentina), which became our favorite for its full-bodied and deep flavor. Our second wine was a unique Don Abel (private label) from Wallingford CT, made by one of the relatives of the owner, specially for Vinas. This one reminded us of the local wines one might receive in a B&B in the Loire Valley in France. The final two wines were both from Chile: Reserva Carmenere 2023 and Cabernet Sauvignon Marques de Casa Concha 2022. Both were excellent wines. It was great fun to have Mike choose the wines for us, and we really enjoyed the variety that the flight offerings gave to us. Of course, we had to try a dessert, and Mike recommended the Toffee Cake. We had heard that the owner claimed that some people cried with joy after eating it. Although we restrained ourselves, we had to agree that this was an extraordinary conclusion to a fabulous meal. Overall, this was a great experience for us, and we heartily recommend Vinas Wine Bar and Tapas for a relaxing and welcoming dinner. Some reviews I had read suggested that the portions were too small for the price. I have to disagree. My partner and I love food, and this was plenty. And the price was reasonable. Including tip and tax, we spent about $75 each.

The ceviche was excellent, everything was cooked throughout by the citrus. The portion size is small for $19 and it could have used a side of bread or tortillas to soak up the delicious citrus based broth. The skewers were also excellent. They were cooked perfectly, super tender, juicy and flavorful. They cooked them with a seasoning and had a delicious chimi on top.

I've been wanting to try Manjares for drinks and a bite since I already know how good their baked goods are for breakfast. Tonight was our chance despite traffic jams on the Parkway and snow drifts that makes parking everywhere in New Haven a treasure hunt. Decor is beautiful, ambiance is chill and relaxing. Very reminiscent of Olea without the downtown hustle and bustle. Menu is small yet carefully curated with something for everyone. We came specifically for potatoes bravas, one of our favorites. Saw it on the menu online but was told it was no longer available. Our server, Tabitha, suggested some Yucca fries which was not on the menu but she made a request to the kitchen for us. They were delicious and honestly if they were in the menu we would've ordered that as well. Fried calamari was seasoned and fried to absolutely tender perfection. The coating was light and crispy. My wife loved the aioli and picked onion combo on it. I preferred the lemon. Both of us decided to get a pasta course, bolognese and carbonara. For a non-Italian place to cook both of these dishes with such perfection blew us away. Flavorful bolognese that wasn't drenched in tomato sauce coated the al dente rigatoni perfectly. The carbonara was rich and savory with a little pepper accented by the guanciale. My wife had issues finishing ir and I suggested taking it home. She then finished it out of spite I believe. For $25 each, the pasta dishes were both satisfying without making you feel so full and bloated that you needed a wheelbarrow to get you back to the car. Plenty of food for even the biggest eater. Well worth the money. The attention to depth of flavors was evident. These were not some thrown together pasta dishes. Our compliments to the chef. Tabitha was great. Her cocktails were fantastic.
