Bread and wine

Came here for Valentine's Day and we were, unfortunately, very disappointed for various reasons. 1) hostess barely greeted us and the service with minimal attention and little emotion continued all night. Our waitress really only came by to collect our order and our payment. 2) the food was very inconsistent. The ravioli was served with a bunch of the pasta water, all of the seafood was REALLY dry, the red snapper especially. Red snapper also came with dry quinoa - the "saffron sauce" Didn't taste like saffron (or much of anything). The chicken was delicious, though! 3) everything took forever. I don't mind a slow pace for dinner but after 2 hours we had to ask for our desserts to go since we had other plans. The desserts we were given to go were not what we ordered 4) adding a required 22% tip is frustrating when the service did not warrant it. Definitely not worth over $100/ person for this experience Restaurant itself had some nice decor.

I finally got around to trying Brasserie Saint Germain today at the end of a summer that kept throwing curveballs my way. All I can say is better late than never, and I look forward to many returns. From the outside, one could easily miss this little spot tucked away in an odd corner, but luckily, I think its reputation precedes itself as the owner is an already established and beloved restaurateur in Ridgefield. I must say that he has truly outdone himself here. Upon stepping inside, you are immediately transported to a cozy, chic French brasserie. The bar, the lounge area, the little street light...it is all so lovely. And everyone is welcoming and warm. For my meal, I ordered the mussels in the saffron sauce, which came with fries and also bread that happened to be warm out of the oven. Everything was delicious, and I enjoyed some wine and a cappuccino as well. I definitely want to try more of the menu which is full of tempting delights. My hunger got the best of me, and I forgot to photograph the food, but I'll include my picture of the lovely interior. I highly recommend Brasserie Saint Germain! Edit to add: The wine list probably has one of the most extensive "by the glass" offerings I've ever seen. Honestly, there's an entire full-sized menu of French wines you can order by the glass. Outstanding!

Brasserie Saint Germain (BSG) is much of the talent from Sucre Sale which had to move from its former location. New location is much better and they completely transformed the interior of the old Yuan restaurant which had always prioritized take-out and eat-in was good but the interior was a bit of an afterthought. Great - Location, Decor, Staff, Menu, Food, and that wine list!! Some of our old favs are still on the menu with some new additions for a revamped menu. The wine list seems.... much larger? what a selection! The decor inside is adorable, hard to believe it from what it used to be, its really a must visit. Location allows for easy walk along main street before or after dinner, love it. Wife's meal was amazing (photo) but fantastic is normal at BSG Good - My Crepe was good with the chicken, but I still prefer the version with the salmon, would be nice if it was swapable. average, poor, bad - nothing in these categories

Omg how have I not been here before? I am already planning my next reservation! Started with cocktails - all made very well! Bread came out warm, crunchy, and delish Appetizers: salad (great), escargot (yum), onion soup (meh), oysters (loved) Dinners: fish special (monk fish - superb), lamb special (amazing), cassoulet (great!) Dessert: chocolate ice cream parfait, creme brûlée, profiteroles. All amazing!

Enjoying Bordeaux and a seltzer.

Our inaugural dining experience was here on New Year's Eve. The ambience was lively and fun. What I imagine a café in France would be like. The food was delicious. It was a price fix menu for the holiday. My seafood cassoulet was excellent and included jumbo shrimp, monkfish and salmon in a white wine leek sauce. Topping it all off was a fantastic baked Alaska. We will certainly go back for a non-holiday dinner, but the busy evening was handled wonderfully by an excellent waiter.

Love the German atmosphere! Love the fresh flowers at every other table. The music is soft and upbeat german music. The wait staff have very authentic German wear and are very friendly! Loved being here felt like home! :-) My son had the french burger with Cheddar, and i had the haddock with fresh veggies and capers with a lemon sauce. For appetizer, we had oyster Rockefeller and the charcuterie board with meat and cheese.

The article references the Savoy Hotel, Danny Meyer's hospitality group, "the pursuit of excellence," and repeated commitments to quality and consistency. So I thought perhaps, at long last, the espresso situation had been resolved. Reader, it had not. I ordered a Cortado to stay. "Would you like that in a mug for here or a paper cup?" An encouraging start. I then positioned myself beside the espresso machine like a wildlife documentarian returning to observe a rare but persistent behavioral phenomenon. The barista dosed the portafilter, then tamped the coffee while holding the portafilter in midair, applying what appeared to be approximately the amount of pressure required to test whether an avocado is ripe. He locked it into the machine and pressed start. Brown liquid immediately exploded from the spouts with absolutely no delay whatsoever. The shot was over in roughly four seconds. For those unfamiliar with espresso, this is generally considered suboptimal. The resulting Cortado tasted primarily of hot milk and faintly burnt coffee sadness. After two and a half confirmation sips, I quietly left the remainder on the counter and departed. At this point I no longer review Ross's espresso. I monitor it.

Hands-down I will say that the dishes to get are on the special menu. Many of these are Indonesian and have the most amazing mix of spices. Our favorites are the Rendang Beef, which is spicy gravy beef dish with broccoli, and the Crispy Duck! I almost don't want to share that second one because it is so good. We've also had the sushi, egg roll, hot and sour soup, Dan Dan noodles, Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings), fried rice, and different versions of soup noodles (must get the hand-pulled noodles). We liked most of the dishes we had tried and have friends who come here specifically for the noodle soup. In my opinion, Hunan is a real gem. If you're looking for something more than orange chicken or edamame, please try some of their authentic dishes. They are and hard to find around here and are so comforting.

I really wanted to love this place, but after ordering the regular ramen bowl twice now, I have to skip it moving forward. Both times, the broth was completely unpalatable - overwhelmingly and sickly sweet, rather than savory, rich, and balanced. Traditional ramen broth relies on deep umami and natural flavors, but this tasted heavily artificial and sweet to the point of being inedible. While the "build-your-own-bowl" concept is great and the staff are friendly, the execution on the ramen stock just isn't there. I'd suggest sticking to their stir-fried dishes or traditional Chinese menu items, but unfortunately I've not found them to be much better than the Ramen.

The bar seats were comfortable and we could easily talk with one another and the service was excellent! We ordered a mocktail with Ginger beer and citrus juices that was refreshing. We each had the watermelon, arugula, feta cheese, sliced almonds topped with burrata cheese salad and I can't say enough about how delicious and fresh tasting it is!!! In addition, the presentation was just beautiful! We also shared an order of seared sesame tuna over greens that was also excellent and beautifully presented. The owner came by to check on us, as he always does every time I have dined here. Between the lovely decor, comfortable seating, warm and friendly service and consistently delicious food, you just can't go wrong here. Given all of this, the pricing is quite reasonable! If you haven't experienced The Barn Door, I highly suggest a visit.
