    Mussels - very good
    Melissa P.

We had dinner here and we loved the ambiance and the food. We got the following: -iberico with sourdough crackers: this was very good, but I would probably try something different next time -tuna crudo: this was amazing -mussels: very good -ribeye: this was amazing and so rich. The dish is definitely enough for 2 people to share. It was very good but next time I would probably try something different I would definitely come back.

Duck breast - this was delicious!

This is an excellent French restaurant, run by a French couple from Marseilles. Downstairs you have the Michelin starred La Bastide and upstairs the more informal but still upscale bistro Cenadou. Provençal accents everywhere from some of the hors d'oeuvres to the prep in many of the dishes. Typically beautiful interior design with an open air kitchen at the back of the main room. So French! We had an absolutely wonderful meal - the leeks vinaigrette - braised and then tossed with Tarragon and basil vinaigrette, pistachio praliné, ricotta salata, and frisée salad - were one star of the evening along with the duck breast with sunchokes, black mission figs, fig leaf oil, duck jus. The duck was absolutely perfectly cooked - great sear and a perfectly done medium rare. It was phenomenal. We finished with a cheese course paired with a very nice Sauternes. The service was superlative - very young staff but extremely well trained and passionate about the restaurant's vision. The cocktails were also on point - very inventive Negroni with a blend of different Amari and vermouths that tempered the typical Campari bitter to a much softer finish. Sophisticated, subtle riff that worked really well. They also have some really interesting spirits, such as three Chartreuse varieties outside the standard Green and Yellow. We would have done La Bastide as well but could not re-schedule plans we'd made with friends. We did stop back the following evening for an after dinner cocktail and had saved room for dessert: the profiterole and the baba au rhum, both expertly done with the latter getting treated with a healthy dose of El Dorado rum. If you're staying in this general area this is a definite no miss option. Build it into your schedule! You won't be disappointed! Note they do a "Sunday lunch" option which also looked interesting / appetizing.

The food was very delicious! Fresh ingredients. Service was friendly. Cool vibe. It was really awesome being able to see the kitchen from the dining area and everyone's food as it came out. The only downside is this place is VERY French styled...meaning the tables are very close together. You can't help but be in the other party's conversation. The waitress tried to squeeze through to place food at the other tables and each time her butt was literally on my arm. So if you want a quiet private date night spot...this may not be it for you. Other than...that very cool looking and tasty.

We visited for a birthday dinner and started with the foie gras and anchovy toast. The foie gras portion was small, but the anchovy toast was salty, hearty, and more satisfying. For mains, we had the duck breast and steak frites. While the flavors and presentation were above average, both meats were tougher than expected. We wanted the mille feuille for dessert, but it was sold out, so we tried the floating island instead--a lighter finish to a hearty meal. Service was attentive but seemed a bit overwhelmed by the early dinner crowd. We'd consider coming back in another season to try a new menu.

La Bastide and Cenadou was first brought to my attention by my Yelp friend Cam E. I had dined at another French restaurant in Westchester and gave a lukewarm review, so she suggested I check this place out. I put this place on the back burner, mostly because North Salem isn't exactly in my backyard - but my interest was piqued nonetheless. When one of my friends and I were looking to catch up, I thought this would be the perfect place to go, so off we went. La Bastide and Cenadou are actually two restaurants that are housed in the same building. La Bastide is a fine dining restaurant (courses, pairings, etc), and Cenadou is more of a contemporary bistro with an à la carte menu; I dined at the latter. The restaurants are owned by Andrea Calstier and his wife Elena Oliver, who both owned Papilles in NYC prior to opening here. The restaurant is housed in a cute, almost farmhouse-like building, and walking in I was immediately greeted by the bar and host stand. The dining room itself wasn't large, but not cramped so it was quite comfortable. There are very clean lines with lots of white, light-ish wood tones, and blues to add a splash of color. I'm not exactly sure where La Bastide is, but I'm assuming it's in a separate room not visible to those dining at Cenadou. Before browsing the menu, we decided to get drinks. They have a full bar, but also feature some really interesting cocktails. I decided to get the Nougat, which contained vodka, St Germain, yellow bell pepper, and crémant de bourgogne. Super interesting, I could definitely taste the yellow bell pepper and despite me thinking it wouldn't work, it really did. As far as food, they have a good selection of elevated French bistro food, with dedicated sections for hors d'oeuvres, charcuterie, apps, mains, cheeses, sides, and shareables. We decided to get a few things from each section to share: chickpea panisses, Hudson Valley foie gras terrine, moules à la provençale, Atlantic cod, and pommes frites. The terrine was really tasty, it came with toasted brioche and rhubarb chutney which was super flavorful and enhanced the foie gras. The mussels were delicious - a generous portion and sitting in a delicious broth. The cod was nice and flakey and sitting in a cream-ish sauce but wasn't heavy. The frites were pretty good, and paired with a tasty aioli. The chickpea panisses were the weakest thing we got, the texture and flavors weren't my favorite - but even still it wasn't bad. We decided to pass on dessert, but I did finish the evening with a nice cappuccino. Service was great - everyone was really friendly and they timed the food perfectly so it came out at the right pace. Overall, I had an excellent experience at Cenadou; the food was delicious, the service was on point, and the setting was inviting. This is a highlight of the dining scene in Northern Westchester and definitely worth making a trip to.

I got wind of this new chic French restaurant opening in The North Salem Post and finally got a chance to experience Cenadou after their long awaited grand opening. Their Resy time slots tend to fill up the week of, but I was able to snag a Saturday night dinner reservation a few weeks prior. Once there, we were seated immediately and the overall experience was lovely. The interior space is beautiful with a kitchen window view in the back of the dining space. We ordered the devilled eggs and chickpea parisses for the table. The eggs were light and bouncy with a creamy center and a flakey, salty crumble of grated bottarga (fish roe) on top. The chickpea parisses were delicate and soft with a light tomato-y aftertaste. I shared the mushroom risotto and steak frites. The risotto was cozy and just salty and savory enough with an al dente bite. The steak was nicely seared and the fries were perfectly addictive. The dessert, just like everything else, was thoughtful and delicious. The Profiterole is essentially an ice cream sandwich covered in chocolate sauce and a crunchy top. The Ile flottante was an airy marshmallow in cream with bits of crunchy nutty toffee. *Chef's kiss*

If it weren't for my September Westchester Magazine subscription, I wouldn't have known Cenadou in North Salem existed. Plus my friend Cam, raved about it. Even with the relatively recent opening, Cenadou is already a hot-ticket that's quickly making waves. Cenadou highlights an all-French menu that hubs and I are always on the hunt for- particularly because we've visited very good French restaurants in Mamaroneck in the past, or Saint George Bistro in Hastings-on-Hudson. And some that were drastically off like Encore in Larchmont or 'Brasserie' Le Steak- own by....forget it. So taking the 35 minute drive was a nice breath of fresh air. The design inside is minimally styled done in soft white walls and black touches with a mod-ish bar area on your right. But it's the top-to-bottom glass partition window and open kitchen that speaks. This isn't the "coq-au-vin" type place (who knows, maybe it'll change later). Menu has other French classics with a modern twist. My 'Lily' cocktail not only looked cute- but it was packed with a lot of strength. The Escargots in our starter were wrapped in an ultra-buttery and delicious puff pastry. Wished the entire dish had more heft. Our scrumptious 'Garden Salad' was great with my request of oil+lemon only when I skipped the no mustard vinaigrette that was listed on the menu. Thank you. I could've settled on the Cod- which I'm sure may have been more solid. But I'm a mushroom fiend so decided on the Mushroom Risotto at this French restaurant(I know). But you know that sauce or juiciness that's created when you make a risotto? It had an incredibly wonderful mushroom flavor. And all those mushrooms on top, were phenomenal. I'll leave it at that. Hubs like his steak with all those fries. Between the taste of our meals and the energy- they both persuaded us to stay for dessert. I'll say this: dessert was a unique experience as hubs has never had a sorbet that was almost foamy. But, he enjoyed his Citron sorbet with a sublime lavender hint (I did too) in the back with a striking citrus flavor. I only wished there was a chocolate dessert- so settled on the light-as-air Baba a L'Armagnac with passion fruit+tarragon+mini diced pineapple that was served table-side. Never had it. Was Interesting. The tarragon was prominent and so was the Armagnac but I was searching for the passion fruit. Enjoyable nonetheless. Our young server Mimi was all smiles throughout our dinner. I will agree on my friend Cam's point that the dining space is very loud. But I will also add that nothing (didn't see anything) is used for sound absorption to control the loud talking. It made it feel as if I was in my high school's cafeteria. But listen, service from Mr Bartender who personally brought our cocktails was all smiles- and of course, the owner who has the most pleasant demeanor while we dined here.

Crescent farm roasted Duck au jus, poached mission figs, parsnip - Sublime! - 10/14/2023

We were looking forward to dining at the new Cenadou French restaurant in North Salem after seeing them recently featured in Westchester magazine. As you enter the new contemporary style bar area, you are greeted with warm smiles. Turning to the left , you will enter their small sleek dining room which has a busy open kitchen towards the back. Now lets get to the food: For starters: We commenced with the silky melt-in-your-mouth House-made Duck Foie gras with Pear -- Awesome ! Mains: - Steak au Poivre vert avec pommes frites - cooked perfectly to order. - Roasted Crescent Duck breast - with parsnip puree, mission figs Au jus-was absolutely sublime. Only complaint: the acoustics of the room are very loud as the room fills. Hopefully they will figure out how to muffle the noise so you can converse comfortably. *Excellent wine & cocktails list * ** Lovely, efficient and friendly servers ** **It is so good to finally enjoy French cuisine in the Westchester area!! ** **Welcome ** Thank you so much for reading. Bon appétit !

Had such an incredible time here celebrating my birthday. A beautiful place with five-star rack of lamb entree, ile flottante meringue and crispy profiterole desserts, and the Lily cocktail. A very unique escargot and cod curry dish. Generous outdoor seating in the middle of a meadow that makes you feel like you're out in the French countryside. Indoors has a cozy yet trendy feel and you can watch the chefs cook in the open kitchen. You really feel like you're in Napa or a small French village, somewhere far, far away from NYC. Can't wait to come back again and try more entrees. The ideal place to celebrate. 5 stars!!!

My wine group ventured into the wilds of North Salem this month. This place is certainly off the "beaten path" but well worth the trip. It's basically two restaurants in one. We ate at the Cenadou bistro upstairs, the space downstairs next to the wine cellar is La Bastide. The Hiramasa Crudo was divine. Just bursting with flavors. The chicken Vadouvan is special. Extremely moist and tender and loaded with Provençal spice. We also had a cheese course that had some lovely quince paste and sourdough bread. The Mille Feuille was huge and made for two people. It was heavenly! Service is terrific and the staff is extremely pleasant and friendly. What a fantastic meal.

We've been followers of Chef Andrea since his days at Papilles in NYC. When he and his wife, Elena, announced the closure to pursue the opening of two new restaurants in North Salem, we were deeply saddened, but we were excited for their new adventures. So we waited with bated breath... When Cenadou (elevated casual dining) opened, we made the 1.5-hour trip and we were sooooo happy! Chef Andrea and Elena have created a place where you feel like you're transported to the French countryside with elevated cuisine that you can only typically find in France. My Cenadou favorites were: anchovies (sooo good), egg mimosa (delicious), chickpeas (surprised that chickpeas could be this good), mushroom risotta (soooo much umami), halibut (perfect piece of fish), and rack of lamb (perfectly cooked). With the debut of La Bastide (fine dining experience), Chef Andrea and Elena have ascended to even greater heights, delivering an extraordinary dining experience worthy of 6 stars. Each dish is a masterpiece, showcasing seasonal ingredients expertly paired with flawlessly prepared proteins. And their wine cellar would make most restaurants blush with envy. My La Bastide favorites were: Everything! (because it's a tasting menu) but the highlights were the white asparagus (best asparagus that I have ever eaten), maine lobster (very special preparation), charcoal grilled black sea bass (perfectly cooked with beautiful flavor), and the veal shortloin (brilliant presentation). It's only a matter of time before critics discover these hidden treasures, be it the NY Times or the Michelin Guide. You should visit both Cenadou and La Bastide... they are totally different experiences. Don't miss out--go now!

    The amazing dessert

This was my first "official" French dining experience, but I hope it won't be my last. We tried four appetizers - foie gras, escargot, anchovies, and (deviled?) eggs. All were very good, but the eggs were really nothing special. For dinner, we had the chicken, steak au poivre, and duck. For dessert, an amazing creation with pastry, cream, chocolate, banana, etc. did I say amazing? It was truly epic. The entire meal, the service, ambiance, everything was perfect. The restaurant was more casual than I'd expected, (The fancy restaurant is not yet open, so this was the bistro experience.) but that just gave everything a more casual feel. The service and food were fine dining all the way. I don't have much to say except - go, go hungry, and order dessert!

We started with a couple of drinks, which were very strong..maybe a little too strong. My sangria didn't taste like sangria at all, and I honestly couldn't tell what was in it. It didn't have any fruit, and I think vodka was added. We ordered the calamari and what was listed as hummus with pita. When it arrived, we noticed the "hummus" was actually spinach and artichoke dip. I had to ask about it since I have an allergy and wanted to make sure a certain ingredient wasn't included. We decided to keep it and I'm glad we did because it was absolutely delicious!! The calamari was just as good, if not better. Both appetizers were fantastic. For our entrée, we ordered the rigatoni to share. There was a bit of confusion, as our waitress (who was also the bartender) thought we wanted it packed to go, when we actually planned to eat it and then take the rest home. She quickly fixed it in the kitchen, so really no harm done. My only guess is that since we had been sitting with appetizers for quite a while, she may have assumed we were finished eating.. I mean it was a while. The pasta itself was cooked perfectly and the sauce was very good. However, it was topped with microgreens and cilantro which really threw me off! I've never had a pasta dish garnished with cilantro, especially instead of something more traditional like basil...? It felt like a strange choice and was a bit unappetizing for me. Overall, it was a very... odd... first experience. Would I give it another shot? Yes, but I think I'd wait a bit and hope things become more organized. I have to add it is beautiful inside. While we waited for them, the fajitas arrived and so we all ate at different times during our dinner out. We asked for additional chips but never got any. We were charged $6 for the cup of rice and beans, even though the menu clearly stated $3. Overall, this was a very disappointing meal. Too bad.
