They also had a happy hour food menu, which included $10 pizzas, which were very large and looked almost like deep dish. Great spot to meet up with friends. I wanted to check out The Lantern, and I am glad that I came by during happy hour to try a few items as appetizers cheaper than their regular dinner hour prices. Overall, I enjoyed sitting at the nice bar with the super friendly bartender, but my food wasn't amazing. I saw they had a "Pork Bun", which I thought may have been a pork bao bun, but it was really just a BBQ Pulled pork slider. I also had the buffalo chicken meatballs, which were okay, but they could have used some ranch, and also the pullled chicken taco, which again was just okay. I don't think I'd come back for the food, but they did have a few nice beers on tap I'd like to try, and their outdoor sidewalk seating is in a really great spot on Main Street when the weather is favorable. read more

The lantern doesn't give a damn about customer loyalty. I went to the lantern with my dad and his friends the night before thanksgiving. We ordered food, drinks. (Food was sub-par, over priced and they gave me the wrong fries). Around 8-8:30pm when all the rich kids came in for the annual "bar crawl" , the bartender told us we needed to buy an $18 ticket, just to order any more drinks, even though our tab had been open for hours. We left. Greed and disloyalty. My father gives them business year round, and they're cashing in on the rich kids who all come out one night per year. Damn shame. Don't go to the lantern. read more

Got the short rib bun and was just wanting something quick and easy. Had to order another as it was really good. Reason for the four star is we had two bartenders. Our first bartender was Filipe who was absolutely skilled. Our first drinks were excellent. He had stepped away and another guy replaced him. Didn't get his name but he was really nice. We discussed the incredible bourbon selection. However; he couldn't make a drink. He made our round 2 and we actually needed to return the drink and wait for Filipe to come back! We were a trio here for brunch on a Saturday. The staff is very nice and attentive. The drinks were very good and the food was good. I did however take points off for the cook over cooking my ribeye to well when asked for medium rare which they quickly gave me a new steak, yet for some reason they cut both ribeyes in thick strips. I'd really prefer to let my steak rest and cut it myself please! Our appetizers were good. There's not spectacular stand out here. With being so far from home I'm sure we would opt to try other places before going back. Buffalo chicken meatballs were a bit chewy and tough. A very nice outdoor seating area. Our lunch was very good and service was excellent. But a $2 charge for my choice of salad or fries got under my skin. I ordered the Philly cheesesteak and on the menu was given a choice of fries or house salad. I chose salad. When the bill arrived my father noticed a $2 charge for the salad. We asked the waiter why there was a $2 charge and he said the computer system automatically added the fee and it was an issue they were aware of. He offered to remove it. We asked why he hadn't removed it before as it's really an overcharge and he said he had mentioned the issue to management but not gotten it fixed. In short this business is knowingly adding a fake charge to the bill. Most people probably miss it. And the excuse that the computer does it automatically is absurd, it's programmed by the owner. This was a pretty mediocre experience, but there's enough potential here where I haven't completely written it off yet. My mom and I came here for lunch on Easter. Points in The Lantern's favor for even being open that day - we had a tough time finding a mutually agreeable destination due to the holiday, especially one without an exorbitant prix fixe menu. We were able to walk in off the street and immediately secure a prime table right up front next to the window, ideal for outdoor pooch viewing. I didn't have a good view of the interior for the most part but did take notice of the excellent wainscoting/backdrop behind the bar - very pleasing to the eye. I decided to roll with the Easter specials menu and selected the lamb ragout entree. Per the instructions on the bottom of the menu, I asked our server for more information on the seasonal spring cocktails available. He didn't know (and in my opinion should have), but quickly conferred with the bartender and confirmed that they only had one specific drink. I may be paraphrasing slightly, but it was called something like a berry smash. Not a huge deal, but if you've gone to the trouble of creating a specials menu that specifically includes language about special cocktails plural, there should be more than one. Regardless, I decided to get it. I believe it was vodka, club soda and some blueberries. It was refreshing for what it's worth, but pretty bland. I'm typically not a huge fan of mulled ingredients in drinks (too easy to accidentally eat part of them, so I tend to avoid mojitos), but this is one that could have used mulling for flavoring purposes. It basically tasted like a plain vodka tonic without a lime or lemon and needed at least one more ingredient. My mom got the breakfast pizza and was okay with it. She asked for the breakfast pizza with sausage, and it came with both sausage and bacon (the item on the brunch menu says it comes with either of them). The bacon was easy to pick off but shouldn't have been on there to begin with. Small issue, but those can add up. The lamb ragout was good, though not great. The lamb itself was juicy, tender and flavorful, but I could have done without the carrots (I think their inclusion should have been mentioned in the description - I probably would have gone with a different option). Also, like the drink, it was lacking at least one more ingredient, in this case a sauce. Beyond the actual lamb the dish was pretty dry - the pappardelle was only moist in areas where the braised lamb had made direct contact, and I had to really saturate the pasta with the lamb before eating it. The service was fine. Our waiter was friendly/attentive for the most part. There were one or two times where we were looking around for him (that might be the trade-off with the cozy window nook we were in, as I don't think we were really in the line of vision too often), but nothing egregious. And the price point to me was arguably the biggest selling point - the total bill came to a little over $50, which, given that an alcoholic drink and two entrees were involved, definitely isn't bad for this area. I'd definitely stop by again; the talent here is evident, but I'd probably avoid the specialty menus going forward. read more

Great location, a beautiful building and substantially improved service vs 1-2 years ago are all positives. The food, however, is another matter. While the ingredients are at least fresh, pretty much every dish that comes out of The Lantern's kitchen just looks & tastes like a quickly assembled mess. The sriracha sauce for example can't salvage the otherwise essentially flavorless tuna poke bowl made even less appealing by oversized, watery chunks of tomato. Will keep trying periodically, but wish the overall experience in this place at least approximated what this restaurant was like as Bissell House a number of years ago. read more

It's not worth the time and money. We stopped mid-afternoon for a late lunch while visiting old haunts; one of our party was last here when it was Gail's. The ambience is still there, but the food quality is not. The grilled chicken sandwich and the salad were simply basic ingredients, prepared properly, but with seemingly no concept of added flavors: herbs, spices, etc. The vinaigrette consisted of two flavors: vinegar and sugar, like cheap French dressing. The service was friendly and informative, filling in some recent history. There's much to be said for a place with happy staff. I took my mom to this restaurant for brunch on her 90th birthday two weeks ago, and the service was awful. For the first time ever, I gave only a 10% tip. I would have left nothing. But when I complained to the bartender saying it would help if they had more then two servers and himself for the whole restaurant on a busy weekend when there was a street festival outside, he said he knew. They'd been asking the owner to hire more people and they wouldn't. We had to flag down the server to order and to get our water refilled. She never did it. So we went to the bar ourselves to get the water pitcher. One entree came out like 20 minutes after the first. We had to ask the other server to check on it, because our server was nowhere to be found. We had to go to the bar to get the check and pay. And he gave us the check of the table next to us and vice versa. He apologized and said he'd fix it. I should have insisted on a refund credit slip, because today I got my credit card bill, and there were charges for both checks. I called and asked to speak to a manager, who I was told was outside. I waited on hold for 12 minutes and finally hung up. Now I have to go through the hassle of filing a dispute with my credit card company. Oh, and the food was nothing special. read more

Delicious! I had some family visiting and it was getting close to hangry time so on a whim we popped in and man did we choose the right place! Right from the get go the staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating, had a booster seat ready before we even reached our table! We tied a variety of appetizers along with several mains (drawing a total blank as to what all we had!) and everything was delicious. 3 adults and 3 children all thoroughly enjoyed everything that came out. Kids had pizzas, chicken tenders and Mac n cheese and loved it. I also tried the Mac n cheese and was a big fan! Beyond the food our waiter (forget his name) was beyond nice and super engaging with the kids, especially my daughter. Toward the end of the meal there was a diaper situation and I asked if it was ok if I used a bench in back as there was no changing station. The waiter didn't just say yes, he said absolutely and if anyone else had any thoughts on the matter he would take care of it. That right there was the icing on the cake. It can be challenging at times to go out with a little one but to have people willing to help support you when needed is a Wonderful thing. We will definitely be going back! read more

We were welcomed by a waiter who told us to feel free to choose our table. The atmosphere in The Lantern emits the warmth and charm of this small town in Ct. We had drinks while perusing the menu and my Montepulciano was excellent and reasonably priced. I ended up with the Detox Salad with Grilled Chicken and my husband ordered the Cubano sandwich. The calamari was good as an app. My daughter liked her duck and prime rib buns, and they had lobster grilled cheese. The brussel sprouts could use a bit more roasting and flavor. We took a chance on St Patricks Day and stopped for lunch. It WAS open! Large menu , fun drinks, wonderful service! It is light and bright inside, not dark like before. The bar area is lit up. Very pleasant creative bartender. Even on a rainy day it was nice on the indoor patio. I ordered an entree. Salmon over Celery Root with greens. Big portion, Don't be fooled by smaller dish size! My hubby ordered a Philly cheesesteak, served on a larger plate with real steak, not the shaved thin kind, fries etc. Our dessert was kinda crazy. I was really excited to eat here, as there are a ton of great restaurants in this area. The restaurant itself is beautiful and clean. I went on a Wednesday night, it had a fair amount of customers, but it seemed like only one staff was waiting on everyone. We started outside, but it looked like it was going to rain so the server came to everyone outside to let them know what tables they would be seated at if it were to start raining. While I appreciate that gesture and have much patience for low staffed servers, they were more interested in the game on the tv and cheering loudly with each other than giving us plates to eat our appetizers. The drinks were okay, the whisky sour tasted like a whisky with ginger ale. Appetizers were great, we got the charcuterie board. Our entrees were pretty disappointing. On their Instagram, it shows that they serve bao buns. On the menu, they have an option where you can get "3 buns for 18 dollars" with a few options. I definitely should've asked if it was specifically the bao buns, so it's party my fault, but we were served 3 mini hamburger buns with breaded chicken lettuce and tomato. It was literally the same thing as a chicken patty that you got in high school. I'm not kidding. We also got the grilled chicken sandwich which was nothing special and the chicken tasted rubbery. I haven't been to this location in a while and The Lantern is the latest restaurant to begin this location and I did not know what to expect. Thye had a great beer and drink selection. It was spotless inside with some great seating out on the sidewalk. We chose a booth inside and ordered the Lamp Meatball appetizer. Delicious!! Then the 2 of us ordered sandwiches. Lobster Grilled Cheese (no peppers) and a Brisket Grilled Cheese. We split the sandwiches and they were both fantastic.
