The last thing I want to do is jump to conclusions of racism but this seemed pretty blatant. I never jump to that conclusion lightly -- and honestly, I tried to talk myself out of what I was seeing in real time. But after replaying the situation, I couldn't unsee it. My date and I had an 8:00 PM Valentine's Day reservation and arrived on time. We checked in with the hostess and were told our table would be ready "in a moment," which was totally fine. We stood and waited patiently. Shortly after, a white couple walked in behind us and told the hostess they technically had an 8:15 PM reservation but were told to come at 8:00. They were seated immediately. We looked at each other but didn't say anything -- we figured maybe they had something ready and ours was being turned over. Then another white couple came in with an 8:00 PM reservation and was also seated right away. At this point, we were still standing there. No update. No explanation. No reassurance. All three parties were groups of two. There was no difference in party size, and we were on time for our reservation. Being skipped once might be a mistake. Being skipped twice, with no communication at all, felt intentional and uncomfortable. We were left standing there feeling confused and honestly unwelcome. If there was a legitimate reason for the delay, it was never communicated to us. No "your table is being cleared," no "we're just running behind," nothing. Just silence while other couples were seated in front of us. What was the difference between their table and ours that we were moved to the side to stand and wait? Everyone was a party of 2. We arrived on time and were the first ones in the door.. I truly didn't want to believe what this looked like, but it became impossible to ignore. We ended up leaving because the situation made us feel disrespected and unwanted as customers. Valentine's Day is obviously a busy night, but fairness and basic communication are non-negotiable. I would not recommend this place, and I especially would not recommend it to people of color based on how we were treated. read more

Open on Thanksgiving. We were pleasantly surprised to find a warm and inviting environment. The wait staff was pleasant and prompt. The three course meal was just right at $49.99. We plan on moving to the area and so, we shall return. read more

I miss being able to see the kitchen! The service was good, very attentive staff. This was our first time since it became barnwood and we're expecting a different specials menu from looking online but we shifted our sights into the new specials. The crab cakes were very good, great Cole slaw and sauce. The NE clam chowder could have had less potatoes but the clams were plentiful. I got the surf and turf filet mignon cooked perfectly medium rare with a scallop and shrimp which we happily and surprisingly cooked just right not over. The broccoli was cooked great which is rare at a restaurant usually under or over and these trees were spot on. The mashed potatoes were great as was the bordelaise! Food quality / price (value) rating 8. The atmosphere is contemporary tavern with a large bar and plenty of high tops. The lighting and decor is romantic,vand they have a decent enclosed "putdoor" seating area. We've been here 3 or 4 times now. The food is okay, but nothing special. Service is good. I often have trouble finding anything I actually want. For me, the menu is kind of boring. Today I had the Lemon Chicken. The two filets I got were fairly small, low quality, pretty tough and stringy. I was told that the meal came with broccoli as a vegetable, but it actually came with julienne squash, vwhich, for me, whena restaurant is serving squash it means they've stopped trying. They offer a decent array of draught beer choices, but most of them are low ABV. read more

We have only done take-out. I have not physically eaten at the restaraunt. Obviously there's always a difference. So my review is based on TAKE OUT ONLY. My husband ordered the Philly cheese steak with the fries. It came very well served. The sandwich was a decent size. Only con it was very very greasy and the grease spilled onto the fries which was kind of gross. My suggestion is if your doing take out ask for your fries to be separated from your sandwiches. I ordered the salmon bowl with the lime rice mix bc it was gf. It was very good but once again the rice was a little too buttery but doable . But in overall it was very good and the portion served me for two days. They were very pleasant on the phone when we called our order in. Their online menu is interesting and quite different. The food is very good for sure. The service is top shelf, and the atmosphere is what it should be as the name implies, Barnwood Tavern. I had a lunch meeting there and all went well. I will tell others and definitely go back. read more

We have been here several times and this place is great! We used to come here when it was Prime Pub so we were skeptical when a new owner came in. Luckily, it's still excellent! We came here tonight and my husband had one of the specials, branzino. Absolutely delicious. I had a different special, smoked chicken tacos. Loved it. The atmosphere is great, service is top notch. Haven't been in building since it was Blu restaurant,friends mine recommended meeting at barnwood tavern for dinner ,what a pleasant surprise,,Sat at bar and saved 2 extra seats for friends showing,Bartender Lyric ,had bar under full control made you feel at home,(reminded me of back when I was a good bartender lol)I ordered a sangria (that was excellent)for dinner I ordered rigatoni with mascarpone ch sausage n peas,was fantastic,highly recommend going and eat at the Bar ,Lyric is excellent,not that I don't recommend eating in dining room I'm sure there great there too,(I Personally like eating at the bar) read more

First visit here. Met a friend for lunch and we had a great time. She had the lobster ravioli and I had the caprese flatbread. Both were fresh and delicious. Service was spot on. Ordered 2 bloody Marys and they were stellar. The setting itself is comfy and inviting. Impressed and will return soon. This footprint has had many incarnations over the years. We were a group of 7 having lunch at Barnwood. Our waiter was on point and very attentive to our group. The remodel of the interior of the restaurant is lovely and gives a warm vibe. All of our meal choices were done exceptionally well and delicious. We were never rushed and really had a great experience at Barnwood Tavern! This was my 4th visit. Each time gets worse. I waited 10 min to get seated, then he sat the girls behind me first. Then another 10 minutes without anyone coming over to the table I got up and asked for the waitress. She came and waited on the only other table first. When she finally came over, I told her after 10 minute I went and asked for help. She said she didn't even know that anyone was sitting in the back. Okay. Food came, it was cold and dried out. Recently tried the new Barnwood Grill in Danbury and we were very pleased. Service was great, nice cocktail selection and food was delicious. I had lemon chicken crisp outside and juicy inside, my husband had the chicken Parmesan with pasta which was also mouthwatering! Definitely one of our new favorites read more

The restaurant previously in this location, Prime Pub, was wonderful, and the owner was lovely. Unfortunately, our experience at Barnwood Tavern was the opposite.I ordered a steak sandwich for my son, and the meat was extremely fatty and chewy. I watched him spit out more than half of the sandwich. I tried it myself and had the same experience.I called the restaurant politely to let them know about the issue. I did not ask for a refund or anything free. The woman on the phone offered to replace the sandwich with a burger and asked if I could bring in the remaining sandwich. I explained that it had already been thrown in the garbage, but I would try to bring back what I could so the kitchen staff could see what the issue was with the meat. I literally pulled pieces out of the trash from the napkin my son had spit them into.When I arrived, the manager(Maybe owner) asked, "Where is the sandwich?" I reminded him that I had already explained on the phone that it had been thrown away and that I brought back what I could retrieve. His attitude was unnecessarily rude and combative. He tried to tell me it wasn't fatty. I personally experienced how fatty the meat was. There are many great options in Danbury, stay away from this one. read more
