Dinner out in New Milford offers just a few choices. The Abbey should be on your list. The menu tilts toward Irish dishes and you can't go wrong with their Guinness stew or Shepherd's Pie. But if you want a beef, pork, chicken, of fish they have many choices. They have a full bar menu which includes classic Irish beers. Needless to say I ordered the stew and my wife had beef tenderloin. Both were large portions and excellent. Our wait staff was just great, quick to take our order, and they would stop in a few times to check on us. Prices are very reasonable, dinner for two with wine and my beer was around $70. read more

Went for dinner on Friday night and had a great experience. The dining area is bright, the servers were attentive despite the restaurant being packed and the food was excellent. Our server's name was, Kyle, he was excellent! We got a flat bread, a burger and the corned beef and cabbage special. Food quality / price (value) rating 10. The atmosphere is Irish pub and restaurant. This was our first time here. The food was excellent, and the prices for food and drinks were very reasonable. The memu is quite varied, and is not limited to Irish dishes. They also had a good number of specials. I had the Branzino - Mediterranean Sea Bass with sun dried tomatoes, artichoke hearts and black olives over mashed potatoes with a superior and unique citrus wine sauce - excellent! The wife had the Beef Stew, and it had a wonderful unique flavor. The portion was on the small side, however. They offer a limited, but well chosen, draught beer list. The bar is large with plenty of screens for sports, separated from the dining room by a large glass wall. We'll definitely come back! read more

Another great meal last night at The Abbey. I enjoyed a spinach salad that had the perfect blend of sliced eggs, bacon and dressing on top of the bed of spinach leaves. Nice friendly English pub. Very attentive and friendly service. Good range of beers as you would expect. Food was very good - we sampled the classics: bangers and mash, fish and chips, and shepherds pie as entrees. French onion soup and chicken wings were both well prepared as appetizers and we also enjoyed all our sides: mashed potatoes, French fries, and Mac-N-cheese. Good cocktails and they know how to properly pull a good Guinness, so they are legit. Appears to be a popular local hangout with bar games, karaoke, etc. and the overall atmosphere is friendly and inviting. Would definitely come back when in the area. read more

Clean, open, and fun place for dinner. I love that they give you complimentary bread and they had some fun drink specials for St. Patrick's day. The nachos were definitely loaded. The pub vibe was great. Drinks were enjoyed. Food was a disappointment. Two of us had the Chicken Piccata. The chicken breast was not tenderized and it was served over Mashed Potatoes sitting in the lemon wine sauce. My husband had the Fish n Chips. The fish was soggy inside the coating. My wife and I have wanted to try here for many months now. Wish we didn't waste time. It was fantastic. We went here for the Sunday brunch special. You get a starter, entrée, and dessert. You can also do bottomless alcohol choice of mimosa, screw driver, or Bloody Mary for a small additional fee. Lots of parking in the lot. The entire staff is friendly and helpful. They consistently checked in on us which was very nice considering how busy they were. Multiple TVs which had different football games when we were there. We didn't sit at the bar area, but it looked fun. Lots of great decor and a great atmosphere inside. As usual, we got to items and shared. I ordered a steak sandwich with fries. She got the brunch special which consisted of steak fritti, stuffed potatoes, and a piece of red velvet cake. The stuffed potatoes were good. Creamy on the top, bacon and cheese in the middle. The steak sandwich was amazing. I asked for it medium rare. They cooked it exactly how I wanted. It was so tender I couldn't believe it. The fries were a great side. To complement my steak sandwich, I had some steak fritti. Cooked perfectly and definitely worth the money. The eggs went along nicely with it. The Red velvet cake was good, but not great. The frosting and cream delicious, but the cake was a little dry. Considering how the rest of the meal was, didn't bother me. Looking forward to going back for Sunday brunch soon. Ok... decided to try Door Dash. The delivery experience was good and I gave that a 4*. In all my reviews I have never given a 1, until now. the Abbey food was sub par at best. Check out the "burnt" nachos which was chips and melted cheese. That's it. No other items like jalapeños, onions, olives - NADA. Just burnt chips and melted cheese. Came with a small guacamole, salsa and even smaller (maybe 2 tablespoons at most of Sour Cream. I ordered 2 orders of wings and asked for all "flats" and BBQ. I got Buffalo wings (check the picture attached). Not much more to report. The sautéed spinach was good and the Southwest eggrolls were over cooked and dry. Not much else to say. Stopped in for brunch to give it a try (first time here). They have a prix fixe for bottomless brunch. It was $37 and includes unlimited mimosas, screwdrivers and bloody marys. You also get to pick an appetizer, entree and dessert. It's a great deal. The salad appetizers were good (got the tomato burrata and Caesar salad). For entrees we got steak and eggs and Atlantic salmon. Also pretty good. For dessert we got cheesecake and chocolate cake. The cheesecake was great, chocolate cake was too sweet and heavy for my liking. The mimosas were enjoyable. We had a good time. read more

Great lunch spot in New Milford. They have separate dining and bar areas, with music and a helpful staff. The Kobe burger is amazing (previous visit) but today I had the corned beef sandwich. We had The Abbey cater a celebration of life this weekend at Harrybrooke Park. Frank, the owner, sat down with us and figured out what we would need for a party this size and got it right. He showed up early to set everything up. We had over 100 people show up and had plenty of delicious food for all. At the end of the party, Frank returned to break everything down and clean up. Overall, a great guy to deal with, very professional, clean and efficient. It was such a relief not to have to stress out over preparing food. We recommend 100%. Thanks Frank!! read more

I try to go to The Abbey a few times A year, food and service is always top notch. My Wife and i went there today 9/12/24 again food and service great, but i have one concern and or complaint the booths seating is in rough shape some are torn repaired with duct tape if i was a new customer i would be A little concerned if the rest of the food and service would be good. We checked out the Abbey this weekend after a hike at a local trail. It was close by and had a children's menu so we decided to give it a try for a later lunch. Located on one of the main roads in new milford with ample parking. With a variety of sitting options, we opted for a booth which was roomy for our table of 4. At the later lunch hour it was not too busy but definitely a few tables were filled and bar area as well. Our waitress and all staff were extremely friendly and service was quick. Our boys opted for the regular kids type items- chicken quesadilla and chicken tenders and fries. We started with some apps- wings and calamari. The calamari was very lightly battered & fried which I tend to prefer as the calamari really shines through. It was quite fresh, highly enjoyed! Wings were also good too. We also opted to go with the shepherd's pie which was delicious- great flavor, you can tell they put time and effort into the flavor profile to keep it authentic. It was just a lot so had to take it home for leftovers, yeah! Definitely a great option for good food and friendly service. I would recommend the Abbey if you are in the area! read more

Recently went to the Abbey with a group of 6. This was my third time at this restaurant, and the first two experiences were just fine - simple bar food served well enough. This recent visit was a huge departure from my previous visits. The service was adequate, but the real problem was with the food. One person at our table ordered the 'Filet Sandwich - Medium Rare', and the meat in the sandwich had a handful of issues: A. It was not filet. Just FYI to the restaurant: Filet is a specific cut of beef. Beef comes from animals called cattle. I hope this helps. B. It was hideously gristly. I'm surprised their knives could get through the meat. Maybe they used a chainsaw. The connective tissue in this cut of meat could be used as heavyweight fishing line. C. The meat was cadaver-grey, wet, and greasy the *outside*, and completely blue [cold to the touch] inside. I recommend the restaurant review the terms Blue, Rare, Medium, Well. I would be hesitant to feed that meat to a dog, because they might choke on the fibrous gristle or get a parasite. I'm not quite sure how a person could get this so catastrophically wrong, but I felt real secondhand embarrassment for their "chef". I hope they're okay, or that whatever they're going through gets better. A side note on another dish - The 'jalapeño mayo' on one of our dishes was a shocking green color - absolutely the result of artificial food coloring. It was off-putting and unappetizing. It was certainly artificial coloring because it dyed both the bun and the fingertips of the person eating the dish. Neither jalapeños or mayo are capable of dyeing skin. For the restaurant: A jalapeño is a type of pepper. A pepper is a type of vegetable. I hope this helps. Nothing in nature has, or will ever have, that color. Consider using real ingredients for the products you serve. Or if be honest on the menu and let guests know that their food will be artificially dyed. It's clear the back-of-house have absolutely no idea what they're doing, or the management condones poor quality food. The server was doing his best, but I'm stunned that management runs a place that can serve dishes that sloppy. read more

The wife had a feeling about this place so we drove up to New Milford to check this place out. A very nice and comfortable setting with separate bar and eating areas - but relatively empty on this particular Saturday night at 9pm. Waitress said it was busier early so might be early dinner crowd. Suffice it to say that this was as good a Fish and Chips as I have had - crisp and light and tender and delicious - anywhere. The wife was very happy with her pasta dish. As if we had not had enough carbs the bread was amazing as well. Oh and lest I forget the fries were crispy and flavorful as well. Will be back. A very strong 4 star although the food closer to 5 at least on this experience. read more

I called in and asked about their happy hour prices and was told well drinks , wines and starters are all 5 dollars. It also says this on their website. But, I showed up and they told us the drinks are ACTUALLY just a dollar cheaper, so 6-7 dollars each on average. And only 2 starters out of the dozen listed are 5 dollars. The rest are 7-11 dollars each. Really frustrated me out of principle cause it felt manipulative more than anything. We'd be happy to pay whatever prices, but it felt like we were lied to, especially after I called to confirm prices beforehand. We got the wings and we all had the runs after so we are pretty sure it was the wings that messed up our stomachs. Weird cause they were delicious and crispy, but you never know I guess. read more

Updating to a 4 star after our visit this week. Partly because of the great service by Jenna who is so nice, and totally understands how to work with people. She was so careful and honest about suggestions while just being outright fun. I had the salmon which was my wife's staple, it's amazing. My wife had the special mahi mahi which was also very good. I had them cater a party of 100 people and the food was excellent! They came set up and broke down the serving area. The decor is awesome! For appetizers we had buffalo wings and french onion soup. First Ill start with the wings those normally I could care less. I may have one wing if we have them as an app. At the Abbey I actually 3! They came lightly sauced so you can ask for a side of sauce if you like to be a mess after the wings. They were good meaty wings. Then the french onion soup in a smaller crock but that works so you have room for dinner. It was temperature hot and so cheesy. For our late lunch early dinner he had the Abbey burger with applewood smoked bacon, cheddar cheese and a fried egg. It had great taste but he always asks for medium rare and the burger took awhile so we knew when it came to the table it was well done and it was. It took so long to come he didnt bother sending it back. For my main meal I had the corned beef on rye with spicy brown mustard. The corned beef was not the cheap thin sliced you get most places. These were nice thick moist pieces. The bread was so good tasted almost home made. The fries also sooo good. Hope to visit the Abbey again soon. read more

As a San Diegan industry pro new to this coast, let alone region, I've been looking for a new regular bar. This place is a contender! While I live 30 min away, I'm happy to make this my new spot.
