Checked out Whitlocks recently craving a burger. They have plenty of parking in the back of the lot. Place is broken into too, a cozy dim room with some table seating and a bar area in the front. Our server was good minus the mishap I will explain in a moment, was willing to give good recommendations. My wife got the Chicken Marsala, pretty good, maybe not as good as she remembered since she's from the area. She wished her salad was cut up into smaller pieces, lettuce was too big. She is big on homemade dressings so she loved the creamy Italian. I got the Jr. Murr burger which is their version of a Big Mac. Burger was just okay, I asked for no lettuce which they forgot and the burger was not medium rare like I asked, slightly overdone. Fries were good, but they only give you a small plastic cup of ketchup. I'd still be willing to give them another try. read more

I went to Whitlocks for the first time, after hearing about it for years, and I was not disappointed. The service was top notch and the food was outstanding. We had the broiled seafood platter. And I have enough for a lunch at home. And, get this..... They have BAKED POTATOES..... My absolute favorite. Desert was a coffee crumb cake that was wonderful. The drinks hit the spot!! The service was very friendly and accommodating. I had the Chicken Parm with spaghetti and the taste was so good. Chicken was tender, the sauce was excellent and the spaghetti was al dente. It tasted like the chef cared about the flavor. I had a small Caesar Salad and it was dressed just right. A little treasure spot for quality food and taste. read more

They say change is inevitable, and boy, did this place change! The new owner seems to have taken "positive attitude" as a suggestion, and "delicious food" as a personal insult. It went from serving food that occasionally sparked joy to a culinary experience best described as aggressively awful. It's actually quite sad to witness such a spectacular nosedive. Each dish now seems to whisper tales of culinary woe, a symphony of awful textures and profoundly sad flavors. The food is consistently good. The portions are large. There is rarely a long wait. The prices are reasonable. This restaurant feels like home and there is entertainment many times. We have been going to Whitlocks for years. But we went there yesterday for lunch and the service could not have been worse. We were there for over 3 hours. Lunches put in front of the wrong person, multiple requests for water and even one of the lunches delivered after everyone else was already finished eating. Needless to say we will never be back. The only thing slimier than their booths is the vibe. No one in town wants to eat at a place where the ads are cringy and women feel like objects. This place went so far downhill. We live in Virginia and come up every fall and spring to visit family. We found this restaurant randomly one day and immediately fell in love. We now go here every visit to CT. Our waitress, Kathy, remembers us and caters to my elderly grandma. She's friendly, timely, and accurate. The food is always delicious. I always order the grilled salmon. I've been here multiple times and I love this place. The locals come here, it's in an unassuming small plaza but the food is exceptional with great portions. I've had the broiled seafood platter, always delicious with scrod, shrimp and scallops. I've also had the scallops platter, dinner size you get about 7-8 large scallops. Now, their fried clam bellies are one of the best- it's unexpectedly good and very rare to find a place like this in a small town of Bethel. Also had the prime rib, pictured.. it's one the best prime ribs I've had. Their French onion soup is one of my favorites here. Honestly I walked into this local small restaurant and did not think much of it. Decided to order some fried fish with not high expectations but let me share with you that this was one of the best fried seafood spots I have ever visited! Food was delicious! Fish was just right, flaky and with buttery taste, scallops were cooked just perfect and the shrimp was extremely juicy and flavorful! The staff was incredibly attentive and friendly and the atmosphere was so much fun, one of my favorite bands was playing. Would highly recommend. read more

I like coming here.or I like going there.The food is better than before.There I wrote it,speaking out loud as I typed it.Steak,sandwich,Burger,salad any dish you order you are going to eat it and like it.Great ever changing beer selection that will make you happily burp with happiness and a smile. Last night I got a rack of BBQ ribs that knocked my socks off! They were amazing. This is the first time I tried them under the new ownership of Dennis and John. I haven't had ribs THAT GOOD since going to Tennessee Mountain in NYC! Unbelievable flavor, a light kick, tender and juicy! It was my birthday and was treated to this amazingly delicious meal with mashed potatoes and corn on the cob! Another favorite but don't want to detract away from those ribs. The quality of food has gone downhill since the new owners took over. I'm not sure why they changed a successful menu, but it's not working. Service was terrible. If our server had spent more time serving instead of apologizing, it wouldn't have taken over an hour to get our food. We had to ask for rolls and were told that they no longer offer them at lunch. If you don't know that fish and chips is a batter dipped fish and not a fried fish with breadcrumbs, only to be told that's how we always make them, then you aren't a chef! Also, those sticky tables need to be thoroughly cleaned or refinished. read more
