It was our first visit here as we had already had lunch but as we drove by, the patio was so inviting with mature trees, scrubs, flowers, why not. We decided to sit outside as it was a mild 60's day. We ordered a couple drinks and the potstickers. Omg, very tasty. We added their sir racha sauce to the sauce provided and it was delicious. It's a cold night and we had no plans on leaving the house. DoorDash has a Now on DoorDash area where I found Shakedown Street Eats. The concept of street eats must be small food as the portions were small. Its not a spot if your hungry I would order from unless your ordering two or sharing a bunch of items. We ordered two appetizers the mexican street corn and zing meatballs. I was weary of the pimento cheese - but I was 100% wrong. The pimento cheese with the chilli, lime, and cilantro - Loved It! The zing meatballs probably the biggest portion of all our food great combo of sweet and salty. Our dinners were jerk chicken burrito with tortilla chips. And fried rice with sizzle steak. The jerk chicken was spicy but good pieces of meat. The tortilla chips were a nice crunchy addition but needed a sauce whether a salsa or a curated sauce. The fried rice was so good but the size made it like a snack and while the sizzle steak had great taste but limited steak. Just because I prefer a bigger portion dont let that deter you from trying Shakedown as all the tastes were really good. read more

Hubs and I had just finished checking out the BF deals for the things we needed for the house (ach, better online, meh) and we were looking for somewhere we hadn't been in a while. The man said 'how about Note?' and I said 'oh that's not there any more' and he got me to check out of he could eat in the restaurant that replaced it...and it turns out YES, HE CAN! Wooohooo! We rocked up at 1:45 on a Saturday and it was sadly very quiet for a lunch. I say sadly because I don't want to lead you wrong but the food was Phe. NOM (!!!). Enal! We ordered the buffalo Cauliflower which was as good as anywhere we've had it. A little crunchy on the outside, well balanced buffalo sauce, and tender cauliflower. He got an *on tap* Einstock Porter (anyone who knows us knows we luffs the Icelandic) and I got a good (if not exceptional) classic margarita. We then ordered loaded baked potatoes. O. M. G. We are British. This is street food straight from our shores. Genuinely, I don't understand why more places in the US don't offer this. I had the bang bang shrimp which was exactly what I wanted from that item, sweet heat, on a perfectly cooked potato that was well condimented with sliced scallions, pickled red cabbage, sour cream, and lashing of butter. He had the roasted mushrooms and said it was just about the best (apart from mine!) loaded baked potato he'd had in this country. There were a few people propping up the bar before we left and I truly hope they got busier after we left, because they deserve to be. read more

I like the folks of the Note restaurant group, so we were excited to try it the newest offering. Unfortunately, it was mostly disappointing. They weren't very busy but we still had trouble getting the attention of our server for drinks or to place orders. The servings are small, it's a small plates kind of place, but the prices weren't. And also, and this applies to most places of late, tipping expectations are getting out of hand. 15-18-20 is standard, 25 if phenomenal. More and more I'm being offered a screen to sign showing 20%, 25% and 30% - even for picking up your own food. Service positions get tipped. (And only because they're not paid a living wage). Chefs are not serving positions. Hosts are not. Picking up my own food doesn't require a tip, because all the restaurant does is cook the food- and that's the chefs j-o-b. Ice always been a generous tipper, for 5 decades. But no, I don't want to leave a tip when I used my own gas & car to get my order. There was no service. If the food is delivered then a tip is appropriate. But the everyone now has a hand out has got to stop. I was always taught how & when to leave tips. But also that tips are voluntary. I don't appreciate the implied guilt if I choose custom (which I will always do when tips incorrectly calculated on post tax totals). But the bottom line is with everyone having their hands out, increased food & drink prices- is no longer worthwhile even a little bit. I won't eat out without properly tipping, so the net loss is we eat out very infrequently! Luke twice a year. Sad but it is what is. Adding to my review of one week ago. I also contacted the restaurant directly through their website about our terrible experience. The website states that they will respond within 48 hours. It's been a week and I've heard nothing from them. I just read prior reviews of this restaurant on Yelp and the owner responds to negative reviews with snide comments. Not good customer service or the way to succeed in the competitive restaurant business. Hi Tony- Just reading your insane response to my bad review. And here's a reply: We absolutely did NOT eat most of our food. (Maybe zoom in on your investigative video footage) We took our plentiful leftovers to give to the homeless people who live on West Haven beaches, close to where my sister lives. If you want, she can go back to the beach and ask those homeless people to write a Yelp review. You do not have hot sauce. Off-brand sriracha and Frank's brand are not quality hot sauce. I did contact you, via the restaurant website and you never replied. My sister who was paying for lunch left a generous tip because she felt sorry for the waitress because the restaurant is so terribly run and that was obvious. She started immediately by complaining to us; we don't want to hear it. All of us there have worked in restaurants and grown up in my parents' restaurant and owned our own restaurants. For you to respond to me in that manner is so unbelievable. How do you have time to watch video footage and research other Yelp reviewers prior reviews? Your responses to other bad reviews are just as outrageous. You should be spending your time seasoning your food and practicing good customer service. There are classes on these subjects; you should take a few. I guess I'm just accustomed to better restaurants. But we had gone to the church tag sale and it was my birthday and your patio seemed safe for my disabled sister. I am a customer and without me, you don't have a business. What truly concerns me, though, is your mental health. I hope you get some help in that area. read more

We loved its predecessor, Note, so we were optimistic about trying Shakedown. Not a very interesting interior and when we sat down, we noticed that only one person was waiting on the whole place -- plus bussing and acting as bartender. And tho she worked hard, our food took way too long to arrive. I guess there might have been only one person working in the kitchen too. The food was mixed: fish tacos we ordered were meh and not thoroughly heated. The ramen and lentil soup were good but tho we wanted to add an order of fries, we couldn't get the waitress/bartender/busser's attention and realized that by the time they'd make it to our table we wouldn't be hungry any more. read more

Service was great. Food was good tasting- I felt the portion of the elote street corn could have been more generous. I had Korean fried chicken on bao while my husband had Korean fried chicken with tare ramen which was a more satisfying combo as far as portion/size. I have gone to many restaurants good and not so good over the years. My wife is a huge fan of the Grateful Dead and wanted to go here after seeing from the road. So I decided we would go for Mothers Day. The restaurant is cute and unusual although not fancy. I am just going to be straight up ... this is possibly the worst food quality I have ever encountered in any restaurant. My wife ordered the Korean Fried Chicken over rice. The chicken was little pieces which were way over fried with a sauce over cold jasmine rice. I ordered Brunch Fried Chicken over Belgian Buttermilk Waffle. Waffle 3 pieces (1/3) wedges interspersed with Fried Chicken in between. The waffle was like a rock literally could not bite into it.... Chicken just burnt to a crisp. It was so bad my wife insisted they take it back. I ordered the Gyro on pita instead. If possible this was even worse . 3 long (10 inches) thick slices of something that resembled burnt boot with a piece of Romaine and 1/4 inch sliced thick of unripe raw tomato on stale Pita. My son had a child's meal Hot Dog for $12. The icing on cake was his dessert which was a Churro that was so stale almost broke your teeth. The service was good and waitress tried hard... I felt bad... not her fault. Every restaurant can have a bad day ... however this level is just unacceptable. The Prosecco Hibiscus drink was really good. read more
